Elite British Armed Police
CTSFOs (Counter Terrorism Specialist Firearms Officers)
CTSFOs are another proactive element of SCO19. Their role includes counter terrorism and hostage rescue. Like TSTs, CTSFO teams provide firearms support to other Met specialist units and may operate in both an overt and covert manner. CTSFO teams are on standby to respond to a terrorist or major crime incident both in London and at the National level.
Counter Terrorist Specialist Firearms Officer (CTSFO) Applications are invited from substantive and qualified Constables for transfer to one of the MPS CTSFO operational teams. The MPS employs officers to form part of the National CTSFO network. CTSFOs are the most comprehensively trained officers in the country. They work in teams and provide overt and covert specialist armed support for serious crime and counter terrorist operations. They are designated as the MPS hostage rescue team and form
an essential part of the UK contingency to combat terrorism. Role Requirements In the MPS there are 7 CTSFO teams consisting of 1 sergeant and 15 Constables. They work to 6 CTSFO Inspectors and an Operational Senior Manager. You will join an operational team and work a 7 week shift pattern which includes night duty. You will on occasion be required to work long and unsocial hours. The CTSFO role profile requires officers to currently complete a refresher training program of 165 hrs firearms training per year
The number of active CTSFOs is around 130 officers, organized into 6 CTSFO Inspectors, an Operational Senior Manager and 7 teams. Each team consists of 1 Sergeant leading 15 Constables. CTSFO units may be called to storm buildings, planes, buses, trains and boats, both docked and underway. 2These operations requires that CTSFOs receive a higher level of training than the Tactical Support Teams. Like TST Officers, CTSFOs have served as ARV Officers before going through their own extensive selection and training process.
How to get there:
• You will be current qualified SFO (National Role Profile) and willing to undertake
training to qualify as a CTSFO.
• You can also apply for this route if you are currently qualified in the Standard Masts
and Dynamic Search (DE/DI) role profiles and are willing to undertake training to
qualify as a CTSFO. (All up skill candidates must have attended the National single
system of dynamic search training). You will attend an assessment centre at the
Metropolitan Police Specialist Training Centre, Gravesend, Kent.
• If you are successful you will be eligible to transfer and will be required to
fulfil transfer requirements that at present consist of fitness and medical, local
interview panel, and 2 week MPS induction course to cover administrative and
procedural matters.
• Upon transfer you will be invited to complete a 6-week CTSFO up skill course at
the Metropolitan Police Specialist Training Centre in Gravesend, Kent. Once this
process is completed you will be posted to an operational team.
CTSFOs and SFOs have one of the toughest selection courses in the Police Force.
Anyone wanting to become a SFO must complete a Bleep Test level 10.5 and a 20 sec rope hang. This is the most basic fitness test needed to become a SFO.
Assessment and Training Process for Up Skill route
• You will be required to attend a 2-day existing skills and fitness assessment
to determine your suitability to undertake CTSFO training. This assessment
consists of weapons handling/shooting assessment, deliberate and dynamic
search assessment, and a 1-day physical testing program. The physical tests are
mandatory requirements for the MPS CTSFO role profile and are completed prior
to participation in the CTSFO training programme. They are as follows:
1. Shuttle Run fitness test - This is the National shuttle run test to 10.5
2. Fast Rope hang test. This test involves gripping a thick rope hanging without the
use of legs for 25 seconds
3. Water competency test – This test involves jumping from a 5m platform,
25m swim, 3min tread water and exit pool unaided
4. Confined space test - This test involves crawling in a 30m tube wearing full face
breathing apparatus
5. Working at Height test – This test includes climbing a 12 metre caving ladder and
standing on a 22 metre platform whilst roped on
6. Agility Test – This is a job related obstacles course with no time limit. There are
3 mandatory obstacles that must be completed. Scaling a 6 feet wall, lifting a
rescue dummy and running a short circuit wearing a respirator

We were on set, filming a scene for an upcoming movie, when we were surrounded by three armed response units and scouted by a police helicopter.

A tactical team is catching a suspect of an earlier shooting in San Bernardino, CA. At 1pm on Wednesday a man broke down his car at Del Rosa and Pacific in SB. As he was waiting for a tow truck an another man came and fired multiple shots that hit the victim in the lower body. The suspect escaped and was hunted down by police with the help of a chopper for about an hour. 3 schools were locked down and the suspect was apprehended at a near by apartment complex.

Police Firearms Unit - CO19 (SCO19)
CO19 is Scotland Yard's specialist firearms unit. This elite cadre of highly-trained police officers are on standby to respond to any armed incident in London. Both men and women can join CO19. The unit trains all other UK armed police officers.
SFOs (Specialist Firearms Officers)
SFO units are the proactive wing of CO19. They will usually be used in pre-planned intelligence-led operations such as actions against armed robberies or raids on drug warehouses. The number of actives SFOs is around 90 officers, organized into 6 teams. As with the SAS CT team, SFOs usually include a sniper element that provides over-watch for the assault element which actually enters and clears the objective. SFO units may be called to storm buildings, planes, buses, trains and docked boats.
ARV (Armed Response Vehicle) Officers
ARV units are a more reactive force since they respond to incidents involving firearms. There are some 280 ARV officers utilizing 13 Armed Response Vehicle, or 'Trojans', on the streets of London at any given time. To enable fast pursuit and arrival times, BMW cars, fitted with state-of-the-art satellite navigation and communications gear are the vehicle of choice for the ARV teams. ARVs will patrol known trouble areas, waiting to move in when needed. ARV units are usually crewed by 3 officers : driver, communications operator and observer/navigator.
SO19 - Training
CO19 training takes place in a special facility near Gravesend in Kent. All trainees must achieve a minimum of 90% accuracy with firearms. As CO19 are a police force rather than military one, the emphasis in training is always on the minimal use of force and the legal implications of every act. As with other UK armed police forces, CO19 adhere to rules of engagement based on guidelines from the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo). These specify that they:
Must identify themselves and declare intent to fire (unless this risks serious harm).
Should aim for the biggest target (the torso) to incapacitate and for greater accuracy.
Should reassess the situation after each shot.
SFO Training
An initial 8-week course covers firearms use, entry techniques, abseiling etc. Mock ups of possible scenarios, such as planes, coaches and buildings are used to train the SFOs in methods for storming them. Use of stun grenades and tear gas are taught as well as hostage rescue and handling methods. Officers can also play out scenarios in front of large video screens which simulate real-life incidents. With the threat of Chemical and Biological attack in the capital, SFOs train to carry out operations in full protective suits and gas masks and have done so in the real-world with the arrest of suspected terrorist bomb-makers in Forest Gate, London in 2006.
The Special Air Service (SAS) have reportedly provided CO19 SFO units with specialised training, including exercises.

An eyewitness claimed that the man burst into the office of a training company saying he was ready to blow himself up. The three-hour siege saw the closure of Tottenham Court Road - which runs north from the bustling shops of Oxford Street - and nearby Underground railway stations. Heavily armed members from the Metropolitan Police specialist firearms command, known as CO19, surrounded the building. Several officers carried ballistic shields. The Metropolitan Police later said the suspect at the centre of the siege was arrested. This elite cadre of highly-trained police officers are on standby to respond to any armed incident in London. Both men and women can join CO19. The unit trains all other UK armed police officers. Counter Terrorist Specialist Firearms Officer (CTSFO) Applications are invited from substantive and qualified Constables for transfer to one of the MPS CTSFO operational teams. The MPS employs officers to form part of the National CTSFO network. CTSFOs are the most comprehensively trained officers in the country. They work in teams and provide overt and covert specialist armed support for serious crime and counter terrorist operations. They are designated as the MPS hostage rescue team and form
an essential part of the UK contingency to combat terrorism. Role Requirements In the MPS there are 7 CTSFO teams consisting of 1 sergeant and 15 Constables. They work to 6 CTSFO Inspectors and an Operational Senior Manager. You will join an operational team and work a 7 week shift pattern which includes night duty. You will on occasion be required to work long and unsocial hours. The CTSFO role profile requires officers to currently complete a refresher training program of 165 hrs firearms training per year
The number of active CTSFOs is around 130 officers, organized into 6 CTSFO Inspectors, an Operational Senior Manager and 7 teams. Each team consists of 1 Sergeant leading 15 Constables. CTSFO units may be called to storm buildings, planes, buses, trains and boats, both docked and underway. 2These operations requires that CTSFOs receive a higher level of training than the Tactical Support Teams. Like TST Officers, CTSFOs have served as ARV Officers before going through their own extensive selection and training process.
How to get there:
• You will be current qualified SFO (National Role Profile) and willing to undertake
training to qualify as a CTSFO.
• You can also apply for this route if you are currently qualified in the Standard Masts
and Dynamic Search (DE/DI) role profiles and are willing to undertake training to
qualify as a CTSFO. (All up skill candidates must have attended the National single
system of dynamic search training). You will attend an assessment centre at the
Metropolitan Police Specialist Training Centre, Gravesend, Kent.
• If you are successful you will be eligible to transfer and will be required to
fulfil transfer requirements that at present consist of fitness and medical, local
interview panel, and 2 week MPS induction course to cover administrative and
procedural matters.
• Upon transfer you will be invited to complete a 6-week CTSFO up skill course at
the Metropolitan Police Specialist Training Centre in Gravesend, Kent. Once this
process is completed you will be posted to an operational team.
CTSFOs and SFOs have one of the toughest selection courses in the Police Force.
Anyone wanting to become a SFO must complete a Bleep Test level 10.5 and a 20 sec rope hang. This is the most basic fitness test needed to become a SFO.

SFOs (Specialist Firearms Officers)
SFO units are the proactive wing of CO19. They will usually be used in pre-planned intelligence-led operations such as actions against armed robberies or raids on drug warehouses. The number of actives SFOs is around 90 officers, organized into 6 teams. As with the SAS CT team, SFOs usually include a sniper element that provides over-watch for the assault element which actually enters and clears the objective. SFO units may be called to storm buildings, planes, buses, trains and docked boats.
ARV (Armed Response Vehicle) Officers
ARV units are a more reactive force since they respond to incidents involving firearms. There are some 280 ARV officers utilizing 13 Armed Response Vehicle, or 'Trojans', on the streets of London at any given time. To enable fast pursuit and arrival times, BMW cars, fitted with state-of-the-art satellite navigation and communications gear are the vehicle of choice for the ARV teams. ARVs will patrol known trouble areas, waiting to move in when needed. ARV units are usually crewed by 3 officers : driver, communications operator and observer/navigator.
SO19 - Training
CO19 training takes place in a special facility near Gravesend in Kent. All trainees must achieve a minimum of 90% accuracy with firearms. As CO19 are a police force rather than military one, the emphasis in training is always on the minimal use of force and the legal implications of every act. As with other UK armed police forces, CO19 adhere to rules of engagement based on guidelines from the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo). These specify that they:
Must identify themselves and declare intent to fire (unless this risks serious harm).
Should aim for the biggest target (the torso) to incapacitate and for greater accuracy.
Should reassess the situation after each shot.

An initial 8-week course covers firearms use, entry techniques, abseiling etc. Mock ups of possible scenarios, such as planes, coaches and buildings are used to train the SFOs in methods for storming them. Use of stun grenades and tear gas are taught as well as hostage rescue and handling methods. Officers can also play out scenarios in front of large video screens which simulate real-life incidents. With the threat of Chemical and Biological attack in the capital, SFOs train to carry out operations in full protective suits and gas masks and have done so in the real-world with the arrest of suspected terrorist bomb-makers in Forest Gate, London in 2006.
The Special Air Service (SAS) have reportedly provided CO19 SFO units with specialised training, including exercises.

STORYLINE:
A busy section of central London was shut down on Friday after armed police laid siege to a building - purportedly after a man in it took people hostage.
An eyewitness claimed that the man burst into the office of a training company saying he was ready to blow himself up.
The three-hour siege saw the closure of Tottenham Court Road - which runs north from the bustling shops of Oxford Street - and nearby Underground railway stations.
Heavily armed members from the Metropolitan Police specialist firearms command, known as CO19, surrounded the building.
Several officers carried ballistic shields.

STORYLINE:
A busy section of central London was shut down on Friday after armed police laid siege to a building - purportedly after a man in it took people hostage.
An eyewitness claimed that the man burst into the office of a training company saying he was ready to blow himself up.
The three-hour siege saw the closure of Tottenham Court Road - which runs north from the bustling shops of Oxford Street - and nearby Underground railway stations.
Heavily armed members from the Metropolitan Police specialist firearms command, known as CO19, surrounded the building.
Several officers carried ballistic shields.

When entry was gained this poor young woman's home was searched by the police and bailiffs and she is diagnosed with agoraphobia. They knew this well before hand.
hey left the woman in a state of extreme distress and her partner coerced and intimidated into paying £50 to the thugs or get taken to the cells.

Four arrests have been made and more are expected after more than a hundred suspected gang members stormed Melbourne CBD last night as part of a skirmish organised over social media.
More than 100 young men, believed to be from the Apex and Islander 23 gangs, converged on Federation Square about 8pm, where Moomba celebrations were taking place, attacking one another and throwing chairs.
Police armed with batons and capsicum spray attempted to disperse the crowd, but not before the violence spread to Swanston Street, where café patrons were forced to run for safety before a stampede of chair-wielding youth.
Two people were arrested for being drunk, another for assaulting an officer and a fourth for allegedly carrying a Taser.
A number of other people were treated for injuries and taken to hospital.
Chief Comissioner Graham Ashton said there were about 11 different incidents that broke the law, including assaults and robberies and one police officer being hit with an object.
He said he expected the number of arrests to increase significantly throughout the week as other offences are picked up as police examine CCTV footage.
Police have accused the Apex gang of engaging in riotous behaviour, with most gang members believed to have been teenagers, some even as young as 12 or 13.
They also alleged that Apex was responsible for a significant increase in crime statistics after a spate of violent aggravated burglaries and automobile thefts in Melbourne’s south.
Comm. Ashton said it was also not the first time the group had provoked police in the CBD, with Apex attending White Night last month and New Year’s Eve celebrations with the intention of causing trouble.
Deputy Commissioner Andrew Crisp said police were aware of impending trouble after seeing posts on social media in the hours before the fighting broke out.
He said police will increase resources for a special taskforce aimed at cracking down on the Apex gang.

This is the first picture of a victim gunned down in a London drive-by Uzi 'execution'.
The man, named locally as Oliver Tetlow, 27, was shot dead as a feud between two gangs escalated with fatal consequences.
A video of men boasting about stealing jewellery from a rival gang - posted online just hours before the shooting - is believed to have sparked the murder.
Armed police and the London Ambulance Service were called to the scene and found Mr Tetlow with multiple gunshot wounds after bullets were sprayed from a blacked-out hatchback.
He was pronounced dead by the roadside in Harlesden, north west London.
Witnesses said his mother was there within 15 minutes and was shouting hysterically 'that's my son'.
Pictures of the incident appeared on social media, with many saying the shooting happened after a row over stolen jewellery.
The shooting came hours after a video appeared online of a group of men gloating with gold watches and chains and is thought to be linked to the gang feud.
In the video, the man holding the jewellery said: 'I told man, don't be comparing man to these dabbing a*s rappers be.
'Tell your guy come and get his f*****g s**t yo - f*****g d**k. These is the old version again. This ain't no new plate.'

Tiffanie Hupp, 23, from West Virginia, has been acquitted of obstructing justice after she was arrested on May 9 last year when she used her body to save her beloved pet from being shot.
West Virginia state trooper, Seth Cook, was called to Tiffanie's home after a row had broke out between her husband, Ryan, her stepfather and a neighbour.
During a trial, Cook said he had been trained to shoot dogs, even if they are chained up as Buddy was.
When Cook stepped on to the family's front yard, Buddy started yapping and ran towards him.
Turning his attention to the canine, Cook pulled out a handgun and pointed it at Buddy.
Horrified, Ryan started filming the incident as Tiffanie ran to stand in the way.
The video shows the mother-of-two tentatively step in front of the gun with her head bowed.
Cook then drops his weapon, grabs Tiffanie's arms and hurls her to the ground.
As her relatives scream, he picks her up and slams her onto his cop car, handcuffing her wrists.
He then went inside their home to confiscate electronic devices, Ryan's mobile phone.
She was charged with obstructing justice and released on bail.
On February 29, a jury acquitted Tiffanie after watching her husband's footage of the arrest.
After the trial, Tiffanie told local blog Photography Is Not A Crime: "If it wasn’t for Ryan recording, there’d be nothing.
"He knew about police brutality before I did. But that’s why the camera is shaking, because of the adrenaline.
"When they read those words "not guilty", we were relieved. It’s hard to describe the feeling unless it’s actually happening to you. Justice is good, though."

A potential armed robbery was foiled after an alleged raider pulled out a gun on a taxi driver - not realising there was a police car parked directly behind.
The incident occurred on March 7 in Reading, Pennsylvania.
In the clip, a man appears to pull out the gun and point it towards the cab driver, telling him to hand over his phone and wallet.
Clearly terrified, the taxi driver begs the man not to shoot him.
But what the alleged suspect didn't notice was that a sheriff's deputy was parked behind the vehicle.

I find the RNG very hard to deal with, and this is the first time I've got the special extend trick to work on stage 5 :o. I faaacking love this game.
This is one of my most impressive shmupping feats, took me bloody ages. I find the RNG very hard to deal with, and this is the first time I've got the special extend trick to work on stage 5 :o. Advanced course is harder, and contains two further stages and the final boss.
Any scoring I'm doing is just to get extends.
