How to Build a Miter Bench and Storage Part 1 of 2
New Yankee Workshop S14E01 Miter Bench and Storage Part 1 of 2 A well-equipped workshop will need a bench for a miter saw. In this two part project, Norm builds a useful model with extensions on both sides of the saw, an adjustable stop block, an auxiliary guide for use with an adjacent radial saw table, and much more. The bench base is fully equipped with pull-out drawers sized to house Norm's most-used power tools and accessories. One of those, the "dedicated" mortiser, has its own pull-out shelf with a bench-top fixture that secures the tool and provides extension to support and stabilize longer stock. This will be a popular project to anyone who wants to build useful organized storage in the workshop. The New Yankee Workshop is a woodworking program produced by WGBH Boston, which aired on PBS. Created in 1989 by Russell Morash, the program is hosted by Norm Abram. The New Yankee Workshop featured the construction of woodworking projects, including workshop accessories, architectural details and furniture projects ranging from simple pieces to complex, high-quality reproductions of antique classic furniture. In the course of 21 seasons, approximately 235 projects were produced. In addition to furniture and cabinets, the show also focused on outdoor projects such as the building of a gazebo, shed, greenhouse, sailing boat, flag pole, mail box, cupola, and fences.- published: 24 Jan 2014

Bosch 10-Inch Dual-Bevel Glide Miter Saw CM10GD
Bosch 10-Inch Dual-Bevel Glide Miter Saw CM10GD
Carpenter and builder Rob Robillard from http://www.AConcordCarpenter.com reviews the Bosch 10-Inch Axle-Glide Saw CM10GD Visit Rob's website where he shares his industry training and experience to provide solutions to your problems and to make appropriate PRO recommendations for purchasing products, tools and accessories. Bosch Axial-Glide 10-inch Dual Bevel Glide Miter Saw CM10GD If your workshop is similar to mine you have a lot of dead space, tons of free walls and lots of free area on the open floor, right? Well not exactly, my shop is cramped, crammed and real tight. I recently had the opportunity to review the Bosch CM10GD Dual Bevel Glide Miter Saw and was excited that this saw has a huge cutting capacity, compared to slide saws, but shaves 10-inches off the rear. The Bosch Axle Glide not only shaves space it does not have rear rails and it can be pushed up against a wall with no negative effect to cut capacity or cutting applications. The secret is in the revolutionary axle glide system that looks like a robotic contraption from some automatized factory. First Impression: This saw is heavy and is not something I'd ant to carry in and out of a job-site daily. . It weighs 64 pounds and is better suited as a stationary workshop saw or a long term job-site saw. It measures 27-inches wide by 20-inches high. I immediately took a liking to the large D-handle ambidextrous trigger switch and the smooth glide action of the cutting head, that can be adjusted for personal preference. An integrated dust collection chute at the rear of the blade connect to a dust port hat accepts 1-1/4" or 35mm hose connections. One thing that immediately stood out was the high visibility dual bevel scales that operate from 0 to 47 degrees. All of the bevel, miter and locking controls are in front of the tool and easily accessible. The Axle Glide has two 33.9mdegree bevel stops, which I never really use, but I'm sure some trim carpenters appreciate. The saw has two 4-1/2" tall sliding read fences with measurement scales on them that we found useless and never use. Bosch CM10GD Dual Bevel Glide Miter Motor, Blade and Cut Capacity: The Bosch CM10GD Dual Bevel Glide Miter Saw use a 10-inch blade with a 5/8-inch arbor. It draws 15 amps and runs at 4800 rpms. The saw bevels in both directions to 47 degrees with detent stops at: 33.9, 45, and 47. The miter range on this saw confuses me. It miters 52 degrees to the left and 60 degrees to the right. Why not 60 degrees in both directions? This saw easily cuts a 12-inch board on its flat and a 5-1/2 board on the vertical. A chop-block feature allows users to maximize cutting capacity for upright baseboard trim or nested crown molding by locking the cutting head into the best chop cutting applications. Using the Bosch CM10GD Dual Bevel Glide Miter Saw: The axle glide really impressed us with it's smooth gliding arm action. We found the arm to be the same smoothness in al cutting applications including miter, bevels and dual positions. The clear lower blade glide was appreciated for line of sight and blade visibility. This saw does take a bit of using to become familiar with all of the controls and there are a few! Once that learning curve is over you'll appreciate the up front ease of access.. We played with this saw on the job-site and do not recommend it as a job-site saw unless you purchase the gravity-rise wheeled stand with it. Way too heavy without! The other thing that confused us was that Bosch shave a whopping 1 pound and $100 off this model when compared to the 12-inch saw. Unless budget is a major concern I'd look closer at the 12-inch saw because there is no savings in the weight.. Improvements? First and foremost I'd like Bosch to work on cutting the weight. An integrated LED and laser might be sweet as would the miter stops. I'd prefer the miter stops as a standard item than the silly work clamp that no one ever uses. How Much and Where To Buy: The Bosch CM10GD Dual Bevel Glide Miter sells online for $699 here- published: 07 Dec 2013

I bought a miter saw a few weeks ago but didn't have a good work surface to put it on....so I spent about a week looking all over the internet at existing designs but couldn't find one that I liked 100%.
