Timothy Tau's film may be a "short," but the interview with him and the cast of his film "The Case" was more than two hours long because it was was engaging, totally fun, and peppered with a lot of laughs...OK, OK...margarita's convinced them to hang around that long! That of course made it really difficult to edit the interview down to one post. So we accepted the fact that there was just too much we needed to show readers and settled on two posts! Timothy Tau
Timothy Tau is a Taiwanese American writer and filmmaker. Tau won the 2011 Hyphen Asian American Short Story Contest for his short story, "The Understudy", which was published in the Winter 2011 issue of Hyphen magazine, Issue No. 24, the "Survival Issue." Tau also won Second Prize in the 2010 Playboy College Fiction Contest for his short story, "Land of Origin" (See the October 2010 issue of Playboy magazine). He has also directed a number of short films and music videos that have screened at various film festivals worldwide and on YouTube.

Short film
A short film is any film not long enough to be considered a feature film. Although no consensus exists as to where that boundary is drawn, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences defines a short film as "an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits". The term featurette originally applied to a film longer than a short subject, but shorter than a standard feature film.
The increasingly rare term short subject means approximately the same thing. An industry term, it carries more of an assumption that the film is shown as part of a presentation along with a feature film. Short is an abbreviation for either term. Short films are often screened at local, national, or international film festivals and made by independent filmmakers for non profit, either with a low budget or no budget at all. They are usually funded by film grants, non profit organizations, sponsor, or personal funds. Short films are generally used by filmmakers to gain experience and/or prove their talent in order to gain funding for future films from private investors, entertainment companies, or film studios.

Cyndee San Luis
Cyndee San Luis is a Filipino American Actress. She plays Paulita Maya in the HBO series The Newsroom, who appears in the Fourth Episode of the First Season, "I'll Try to Fix You." She was also in BET's He's Mine Not Yours as Natalie Su. She has also appeared in Dave Coulier's Can't Get Arrested Web Series Episode 2: "Saved by the Bell - Ding!" with Dave Coulier, Dennis Haskins and Kato Kaelin. She has also played double roles as twin sisters (Faye S. and Twin Sister) in the short film, The Case (Directed by Timothy Tau). Additionally, she appears as Lenore "Casey" Case, the secretary to Britt Reid/The Green Hornet in the Green Hornet segment of Timothy Tau's bio-pic, Keye Luke.
She also serves as a producer on the entertainment news TV series E-Asylum which she serves as a host on, and has written a short film entitled The Cry. She has also covered events as a host such as The 2nd Annual Streamy Awards and Coin-Op TV as well as hosted "Sneak Peak of the Oscars" for Cosmo Celebrity TV. She has trained under Actress Gloria Gifford, and appeared in stage productions such as La Ronde and Annie Hall under Gifford's direction.

Back in March I went to Thelonious Jazz Club in Bellavista with my roommate, Mateo. Mateo is a musician and is back in Germany preparing for an entrance exam to a keyboard technician program (I think). He and I finally had the opportunity to hit up Thelonious and the place was awesome. Excellent music. Great atmosphere. Not too cold, not too warm. Not overpriced. There was just a 2,000 CLP ($4 USD) cover charge plus a drink. That night I met Jenn Jade Ledesna, a jazz singer from the Bronx who was scouting musicians for a series of shows to be played here in Santiago during the month of April. The choice to do a film for my final project in History 327 was not just an excuse to get out of doing a large paper. It is also my reaction to a deep void I keep seeing within the discipline of history itself - which, not surprisingly, is also the reason I chose to take this particular class. Time and again the history I learn is that of aristocrats. Of great enlightened minds. Of grand sweeping movements. ESPN’s SEC Network // Coach Tubby Smith - RAW Footage
We got to run an interview of coach Tubby Smith that aired on ESPN’s SEC Network on February 8th. We definitely DVR’s that sucker! Hah. We filmed at Texas Tech’s United Spirit Arena in Lubbock for only about an hour. It was quick, but big shout out to the best gaffer in Texas- GMAN Creative. He helped us out with a stellar 3 point lighting system to get our scene just perfect. It’s fun to work with talented people. Monday’s aren’t always the worst people!

Earlier this year, Kanye West and Sway made headlines when Ye proclaimed that he gave Sway his first TV. For the first time since the incident in March, the two hip hop heads talk in person.
Their interview began with Sway expressing his appreciation for Kanye's Yeezus tour.
"My demo is the Yeezus tour." Says Ye. "Pure creativity... The Yeezus tour is more of a film, or broadway or play idea, Watch the Throne is more of a Rap idea."
Ye then began to discuss his production inspiration from greats like Diamond D & Showbiz.
From discussions of DONDA, to fashion, to the status of his Red Octobers, West passionately says...
"I am the #1 most impactful artist of our generation. I am Shakespeare in the flesh. Walt Disney. Nike. Google... Do you want to marginalize me until I am out my moment?"
Sway's next question sparked excitement and passion from Kanye.
"Why don't you empower yourself, and don't need them, & do it yourself?" Asked Sway.
"You ain't got the answers Sway!" Shouts Ye. "You ain't spent 13 million dollars of your own money trying to empower yourself!"
After the quick heated conversation, they both brought their talk back to music. Why was Pusha T & Big Sean not on the tour? Why did he mention that Nicki Minaj had the best verse on Monster?

Back in March I went to Thelonious Jazz Club in Bellavista with my roommate, Mateo. Mateo is a musician and is back in Germany preparing for an entrance exam to a keyboard technician program (I think). He and I finally had the opportunity to hit up Thelonious and the place was awesome. Excellent music. Great atmosphere. Not too cold, not too warm. Not overpriced. There was just a 2,000 CLP ($4 USD) cover charge plus a drink. That night I met Jenn Jade Ledesna, a jazz singer from the Bronx who was scouting musicians for a series of shows to be played here in Santiago during the month of April. One of the musicians performing that night was Chilean saxophonist Agustin Moya.
I got to see Jenn play with Agustin at the Municipal Theater of Las Condes, and I decided to reach out to Agustin about a potential interview. Fast forward to Saturday, May 5. I went to Thelonious to record some video and audio from a performance.
I showed up with plenty of time in advance, which worked perfectly. I got a seat up front with time and space to set up. I had never really recorded live music before. So this was definitely a lesson in improvisation, one-man banding and live sound.
I used a friend’s Nikon D3100 to shoot video. It was fairly easy to use. I set it up on a tripod and I definitely did not frame the shot correctly. You’ll see in the video. I didn’t fix it until the end of this one particular song. I also did not know how to change the length of time that you can leave it on record (or if that is possible to begin with). The camera was only set to 10 minutes. **I just remembered some DSLR cameras only shoot 10 minute clips.** Luckily, I made it back to my spot (I was shooting with a second camera from the floor) before the camera shut off. You’ll see though. It’s the exact same shot, which is a major no-no.
I also did not record much of the piano player, which I wish I would have done. I didn’t exactly come in with a major plan or shot list (another no-no). I came in only with the idea of getting footage of the saxophonist (assuming and hoping there will be an interview).
The audio was all synced manually. I was able to use the Nikon audio and Marantz 620PMD audio for the main sync. I used the Canon for the shorter close-up shots, which was the trickier and more time-consuming audio to sync. I did buy Plural Eyes finally, but it wasn’t available to me during the making of this particular video. Hah! I did record the next song in the set and I took more shots, if I remember correctly, so I’ll get to use Plural Eyes for the next video and hopefully it’ll come out a little better.
One of the main reasons for doing this was simply to get back into video. I haven’t touched Final Cut since being in Chile. Unfortunately, due to the job, I haven’t needed to or had the opportunity to do so. This was merely a fun exercise in trying to get back into a habit of shooting and editing. I certainly had fun and I know where I made my mistakes and where I can improve.

The choice to do a film for my final project in History 327 was not just an excuse to get out of doing a large paper. It is also my reaction to a deep void I keep seeing within the discipline of history itself - which, not surprisingly, is also the reason I chose to take this particular class. Time and again the history I learn is that of aristocrats. Of great enlightened minds. Of grand sweeping movements. What is often lost is the voice of the other ninety percent of the population that is uneducated, working for a living, trying to keep their heads above water. When thinking about what I might do for a project at the beginning of the semester, I began to think about what the labour movement was and is and where the important moments are. It was then that I realized that the people who grew up in the labour revolution are not long forgotten in history books, many of them are still alive with their own unique perspectives. It was then that the “ah-hah” hit me and I realized that I have within my power to learn about the un-sung ninety percent of history while also staying relevant to the class. I knew I had to learn my family’s story, as we’ve been working class for all of known history until just recently. It was the gains made in the 1940’s and 50’s that gave my grandfather the opportunity to be educated, which set a good example for my father, which gave me the opportunities I now have today. The very reason I am in university right now is by the blood, sweat, and tears of my great grandfather, my grandfather, and my father.
Another issue I wanted to address by making a film was the idea of revisionist history in hindsight. What I mean is that history books spend enormous amounts of time looking at isolated incidents they feel had a great effect on the country, for example the onto Ottawa Trek or the Red Scare. While these issues had a great effect on a large number of people, I was curious to see how a relatively average person/family saw these issues and if it affected their lives in any meaningful way. I know that, personally, I’m usually unaware of great strike movements across this country, and the only large event that shook my world was 9/11, which only served to inconvenience me more at the airport. I wanted to know a layman’s opinion on everything I was learning about from a history book.
I wasn’t surprised to find out that what I felt were important and iconic movements in Canadian history were mere footnotes in their descriptions. When my family talked about relief, it was more a matter of pride that they did not have to go on it. My grandmother felt it was more important that she did not have to face the humiliation of being singled out in class to get up from her desk and join the other relief children to receive new shoes from government relief programs. When my Uncle Gordy talked about the relief camps, the way he phrased the situation was different than we heard in class. Where I once heard that the single men were sent to camps and were only paid twenty cents a day, which could essentially buy two packs of cigarettes, Gordy phrased it that they were sent to camp to receive food, shelter and twenty cents a day for their cigarettes. This is a slight, but very important shift of thinking. Instead of portraying the labour camps as an oppressive institution where people could not get ahead being only paid twenty cents a day, Gordy’s turn of phrase gave the institution an aura of goodwill, giving the single unemployed men food and shelter and enough money to buy their smokes, during a time of crisis. Which point of view is correct, I am not sure. But the different view point is important to have. It is the exact counter point to history that I was searching for - if it existed at all.
The Red Scare, while prevalent in BC, also did not seem to have a large effect on my family. Where I was learning about how the communists put on events to gain support (Footnote p.214), but also to entertain the people in BC in my history books, I heard very little of how the communists came to move into the sphere of my family’s life. One thing came out clear, my family was not too impressed with the movement. My great aunt had little to say on the matter, and my grandmother said that she was appalled that a young girl she knew was a communist (and she ended up pushing her off a fence, on account of that young girl claiming my grandmother’s curls weren’t natural). Gordy had more to say, having a more personal relationship with the communists, having worked under Bill White, who was nicknamed Bill Red on account of his communist ideologies. Gordy worked through sit down strikes, the passive resistance ordered down through the Soviet leadership. He also experienced the sudden change in allegiance as Russia began fighting the war against Germany, when his place of work was suddenly pro-war. We got to run an interview of coach Tubby Smith that aired on ESPN’s SEC Network on February 8th. We definitely DVR’s that sucker! Hah. We filmed at Texas Tech’s United Spirit Arena in Lubbock for only about an hour. It was quick, but big shout out to the best gaffer in Texas- GMAN Creative. He helped us out with a stellar 3 point lighting system to get our scene just perfect. It’s fun to work with talented people. Monday’s aren’t always the worst people!

This must have been an interview, but in fact I made it a portrait clip T____T.
The sound seems to be better, hah :D. And the images is still my strong point :) (our teacher said so). Hope that my ability of filming will grow up before doing my last and most important film :(.

That man died, and so here …regarding relationships, here’s a quote from her what’s called Brainy Quotes. I’ve got to admit I got that from Google, and so here’s her feeling, in a way, about relationships and it kind of mirrors my own very adversarial relationship with women, and that is:
“The surest way to be alone is to get married.”
Now that is a pretty rough, pretty rough assessment …hah hah, in some ways, I very much reflect that feeling myself. I’ve been out of a relationship for three years. I just got to show you.
