Whoever travels to Scotland, meets a beautiful and rich country, rich in beauty and history.
The majestic castles greet the visitor in every corner of the country. Witnesses of time ago which remind one rather of plays and dramas, such as Shakespeare or Macbeth which are the most famous example of it.
Some parts of Scotland rank among the most thinly settled areas of Europe and offer the possibility of experiencing nearly undisturbed landscapes.
Whether lonely lighthouses or postcard picture church ruins, Scotland should be traveled in peace and with time, in order to absorb the un-comparable impressions, of nature and architect, it has to offer.

Scotland, shouldering the slender hopes and dreams of the northern hemisphere, had their hearts broken by a last-minute penalty from Australia's Bernard Foley to bow out of RWC 2015 in an agonising 35-34 defeat at Twickenham on Sunday.
Just six minutes earlier Scotland centre Mark Bennett had latched on to a horror pass by Wallaby replacement prop James Slipper to race in under the posts. Greig Laidlaw's conversion then gave Vern Cotter's battling team a 34-32 lead, and started the Scots dreaming of a first World Cup semi-final appearance since 1991.
Scotland gave their all and, buoyed by 19 points from the punishing boot of Laidlaw, can count themselves desperately unlucky.
It was the Wallabies, feasting off some early front-foot ball, who took the lead after eight minutes of a pulsating contest when centre Tevita Kuridrani broke Tommy Seymour’s attempted tackle to put wing Adam Ashley-Cooper diving over in the right-hand corner.
Scotland surged back into the Australian half and Laidlaw reduced the deficit to two points with a penalty after Wallabies’ flanker Scott Fardy was penalised.
The Scots grew in confidence after Laidlaw’s three-pointer and the Wallabies were rocked further back on their heels when centre Peter Horne crossed underneath the posts after picking the ball up a ruck and racing over unopposed. Laidlaw added the conversion for a 10-5 lead.
Australia were clearly rattled and, when Scotland turned the screw at a scrum - loosehead Scott Sio was penalised for collapsing under pressure from WP Nel – Laidlaw stepped up to land the penalty and make it 13-5 with 25 minutes played.
Scotland were excellent value for their lead but Australia underlined their potency with the ball in hand to reduce the deficit to three points after 30 minutes with a try by left wing Drew Mitchell, after Sio and Kane Douglas made the initial dents in the Scottish defence.
Another penalty by Laidlaw, after more pressure on the Australian scrum, put Scotland 16-10 ahead on 33 minutes before the Wallabies struck on the stroke of half-time to make it 16-15 through Michael Hooper.
The Wallabies scored immediately after the break when Scotland wing Sean Maitland was adjudged to have deliberately knocked on and sent to the sin bin. Mitchell dived over from the ensuing lineout for his second try of the match and Foley at last found his range to put Australia in front 22-16.

The final episode of this series sees Ellie Harrison and Adam Henson explore the hidden highlands of Scotland. Inspired by suggestions from viewers of Countryfile, Adam and Ellie meet people living in Britain's countryside who have extraordinary stories and stunning sights to share. The pair also reveal some secrets of their own.
Adam climbs the fearsome, secret side of Ben Nevis, the north face, a spectacular rock ascent onto which few tourists venture. Adam joins a mountain guide to tackle this hidden route to the summit, but the route is far from the only secret they find along the way. Adam also discovers the ruins of a remarkable abandoned weather station.
Ellie probes a monster mystery at the heart of Britain's deepest water, Loch Morar, the secret sister of the world-famous Loch Ness. The stunningly beautiful Loch Morar is so deep that it could even hide the Eiffel Tower, but Ellie meets locals who believe the water actually conceals a monster, known as Morag.
The most extraordinary map of Scotland is also revealed, overgrown and hidden in the landscape. It's the world's largest topographical map but how did it come into being and why was it lost for decades?
In the heart of the Highlands, Adam is delighted to discover a cattle ranch that allows him to live out a boyhood dream; while on the Black Isle Ellie visits the mysterious Clootie Well. It's been a shrine to healing since Celtic times, but why are its ancient rituals still popular today?
Together Ellie and Adam also go hunting for Bonnie Prince Charlie's secret hideaway, a tiny but timeless cave in the very same landscape where commando warfare was invented during the Second World War. And they conclude their journey of discovery with a magical ride on the real Hogwarts Express.

Over the past 8 or so months I've travelled around Scotland usually getting up at offensively early times to get good light. I wanted to make a film which really shows what a beautiful country Scotland is. Living in Edinburgh we're fortunate to have some truly magnificent sights on our doorstep.
Filming this has been incredible, most of the shots have involved some kind of adventure. From camping on top of Sgurr a’Mhaim as the sun sets, driving overnight to the Old man of Storr on Skye catching the sun rise and stomping through fields chasing the Jacobite Steam Train.
Shot on a DJI Phantom 2 with a Gopro 3+ (with FPV) this little Quadcopter is quite incredible. It allows you to get shots that a helicopter couldn’t even get into.
By shooting 2.7k on the Gopro I was able to scale up the footage in a 1920p sequence to get tighter shots, this allowed me to stay within the CAA UAV regulations. The Gopro was shooting mosting on 2.7k Medium or Wide CAMRAW and was graded with speedgrade. Despite it’s size the camera is great as long as there is enough light! Hopefully over the next few months i’ll be upgrading to the DJI s900 which will take a GH4 camera.
I found a great website called Suncalc which projects a chart onto google maps which shows you the angle that the sun will rise from at specific times which was really helpful in planning where to be when. Fortunately the Met Office and MWIS forecasts were pretty spot on so there weren’t too many wasted trips. Walkhighlands.com has been a great resource for researching routes
In the film there are shots from Skye – Quairang, Old man of Storr, Buachaille Etive Mor, Sgurr a’Mhaim – Devil’s Ridge, Ben Nevis, Forth Rail Bridge, Dunbar, Rannoch Moor, Wallace Monument, Edinburgh, Glenfinnan Viaduct, The Kelpies.

Things to do in Edinburgh Scotland Travel Guide and Top Attractions
Edinburgh, a city that is often mispronounced by first time visitors, was the first city we visited on our adventure tour around Scotland. Flying in all the way from Bangkok to visit Edinburgh for the New Year's Celebration of Hogmany was a fitting way for us to end 2013 and celebrate 2014. Having had a taste of Europe earlier on in the year in the form of visiting Finland, Estonia and Bulgaria we

Scotland, located in the north of the United Kingdom, is a fascinating and atmospheric land. A land of Celtic myths and legends with green hills, barren highlands, mysterious lakes and mighty castles. In the centre of the capital the impressive Edinburgh Castle crowns the hard basalt cone of an extinct volcano, the historic heart of the nation. The beauty of the dense forests and hills of the Trossachs was made famous by author, Sir Walter Scott, in the nineteenth century. It is the most scenic region in central Scotland and possesses grandiose, wild and romantic scenery. The remote Loch Katrine brings to mind Sir Walter Scott’s poem, The Lady Of The Lake. On the Firth Of Lorne is Kilmartin Glen one of the most important prehistoric regions in Scotland. Here, standing-stone, three metre high monoliths are scattered across meadows with grazing sheep. The Bronze Age megalithic grave mounds and stone circles can be seen from Duchraigaig Cairn. Across the north runs the Great Glen with Loch Linnhe, Lochy and Ness marking its course which passes through some amazing landscapes. In Fort William Train Station, the Jacobite is awaiting its passengers. The huge black monster is an impressive sight. Slowly, the nostalgic train moves off and begins its journey on one of the most beautiful railway routes in the world. The history of Glenfarclas is as colourful as the whisky of the same name. It is the story of the Grant Family and their distillery. ‘Scottish Gold’ must be stored for at least three years until the traditional taste of single malt whisky is produced but it can often be left to mature for between twelve and fifty years. Scotland is like a land from an ancient and historic time whose real treasure is its natural, rugged scenery!

Scotland, is a country I've wanted to visit for years, and I finally was able to turn that into reality last year when I visited for the first time to take in the New Year's celebrations of Hogmanay in Edinburgh. As one of the most negotiable cities on foot that I've ever visited, Audrey and pounded the pavement marveling at the architecture, impressive castles and winter carnival events in the downtown area. When we need to warm up we popped into pubs to gormandize on Haggis, Neeps and Tatties while washing it down with a Hot Toddy. When we were in the mood for something a bit sweeter we decided to try a deep-fried Mars bar – a Scottish specialty. Although disgustingly unhealthy (essentially this a chocolate bar covered in batter and deep-fried) it tasted delicious and it ten times better than having a chocolate bar on its own. When we weren't trying Scottish Cuisine or wandering aimlessly down narrow streets, we decided to take a few day trips to check out other events and attractions. Our favorite being Loony Dook where a group of mad men, women and children wearing Halloween type costumes ran full steam ahead into the freezing cold Firth of Forth.
The true highlight of our time in Scotland was having the opportunity to explore the Scottish Highlands (including the Isle of Skye) with Haggis Adventure Tours. This road trip allowed highlighted some of the most scenic areas of the entire country where we couldn't put down our cameras.
When we weren't traveling we spent our time sampling as much Scottish food as we possibly could including a taste test of Irn Bru, Ginger Beer, Tablet, Haggis flavored chips, Scottish chocolate and Scottish Whiskey and more.
The following is a top attractions travel guide offering a snapshot of the best things to do in Scotland during your next vacation to one of my favorite countries in all of Europe.

Having had a taste of Europe earlier on in the year in the form of visiting Finland, Estonia and Bulgaria we were thrilled to have the opportunity to come and visit Scotland's culture capital (Edinburgh) for the first time during the most festive time of the year. Arriving a few days before Hogmanay, we spent our mornings, afternoons and evenings trying to explore as much of Edinburgh as we possibly could. As a very pedestrian friendly city – with most of its main attractions located in the downtown core – we found ourselves wandering around aimlessly for hours on end marveling at the magnificent castles, old architecture and Christmas themed markets. To escape the winter chills we'd often pop into local pops to down some warm drinks and devour a plate of savory Haggis, Neeps and Tatties. To satisfy our sweet tooth, we tried eating a deep-fried Mars bar for the first time. For those unacquainted, basically it is just a chocolate bar dipped in batter and then deep fried in a chipper. It comes out all melted and gooey, which actually enhances its tastes considerably; however, at the cost of taking something already unhealthy and making it far less nutritionally viable. As a side trip we checked out the Looney Dook, where a bunch of mad men, women and children dash like crazy – wearing ridiculous costumes – into the freezing cold waters of the Firth of Forth. Finally, for a bit of downtime, we relaxed in our hotel room and gave ourselves the challenge of eating all kinds of different Scottish food and cuisine for the first time. Some of the most distinct things we tried included Irn Bru, Tablet and Scottish Whisky. Overall, our time in Edinburgh was brilliant and the following is a top attractions travel guide offering a snapshot of the best things to do in Edinburgh, Scotland during your next vacation to this world class city that is home to some of the most fascinating and quirky festivals.

Vacation travel video about destination Edinburgh in Scotland.
In the centre of the old town, Edinburgh Castle sits atop the basalt cone of a long-extinct volcano. It is the most visited castle in Scotland and still guarded by soldiers but it is now mainly tourists who storm the defiant rock. Northumbrian king, Edwin, commanded the castle to be built in the seventh century A.D., the "castle on the hill", Edinburgh. The Royal Mile leads from the mighty fortress, downwards, a sloping road from which narrow streets branch off. Just off the upper Royal Mile is the church and cemetery of Greyfriars with its many historical and atmospheric tombs. Its cemetery became well known due to two Irishmen who exhumed newly-buried corpses in 1827 in order to sell them to the local anatomical institute. The Royal Mile eventually narrows and ends at the Palace Of Holyrood House, official Scottish residence of the British Queen. The East Princes Street Gardens are the city’s green paradise with large trees, well-manicured lawns and the massive Sir Walter Scott Monument. This city of poets and culture is one of the oldest urban regions in Europe... and home of the Scottish nation.

Glasgow - Scotland Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation, Attractions
Glasgow has seen more changes in the past three decades than almost any other British city. From a declining industrial centre with widespread pessimism about its future, Scotland's biggest city has been transformed into a vibrant, dynamic city hailed as one of the hippest spots in Europe.
A large student population has given the city a youthful, progressive character and, with thumping nightlife, one of the strongest live music scenes in the UK, plus first-rate shopping. Glasgow continues to assert itself as one of Britain's most appealing destinations.
With several outstanding art galleries, including the high-profile Burrell Collection, and several excellent museums as a starting point, Glasgow was chosen as a European City of Culture in 1990. You can see Glasgow's tradition of great design in the classical architecture of Alexander 'Greek' Thomson and the organic, art nouveau style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Today, Glasgow's School of Art continues to produce world-class talent.
Glasgow has a proud history - the long list of inventors, engineers, writers and architects of the 19th and 20th centuries were part of the driving force of industrialisation, tamed by socially progressive values in the 'second city' of the British Empire. Around 1900, Glasgow was one of the wealthiest cities in the world, which led to a number of lavish Victorian public buildings springing up to symbolise its riches. The city also became an important shipbuilding centre -- it was here that Cunard's QE2 was built - and was well known for its Clydeside engineering works.
Despite the subsequent decline of these industries in the 20th century, the devastation wrought by WWll and the profound impact of post-war urban malaise on social housing, jobs, crime and inner city deprivation, Glasgow has bounced back with a definite spring in its step.
Since the 1980s, the last 30 years has been seen the city transform, thanks to investment from the city council and the Scottish Development Agency; the riverside area has regenerated and its arts, music and culture scenes are flourishing. Glasgow was declared a UNESCO City of Music in 2008 in recognition of its musically diverse output ranging from classical and contemporary to country and Celtic, while The Turner Prize will be presented here in 2015, the first time the accolade will be handed out in Scotland.
Meanwhile, the Merchant City -- one of the city's oldest districts formerly home to monks and merchants -- has been revitalised with boutique hotels, bars, restaurants, shops and galleries now occupying previously derelict market buildings and old warehouses.
In addition, Glasgow is preparing to limber up for the international spotlight when it will play host to 4,500 athletes as part of the 20th Commonwealth Games in 2014. Most events will take place in venues spread across the west, south and eastern parts of the city, while over £2 billion has been pumped into improving transport.
Thanks to its geographic location, visitors to Glasgow can nip to some of the most stunning landscapes in the country, with Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park less than an hour's drive away and a mecca for adventure and outdoors-lovers.

Take a tour of Isle of Skye in Scotland, United Kingdom -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
On the eastern coast of the island, the town of Portree looks towards mainland Scotland.
The majestic Isle of Skye, off the Scottish west coast, is a national highlight.
There is nowhere in the world quite like it, this island is full of wonders.
There is the gray, rocky face of the so-called Old Man of Storr.
The Kilt Rock, on the coast, is so known for its patterns which resemble clan tartans.

ادنبرغ has inspired poets, artists and philosophers for hundreds of years, yet it is very much a city of the 21st century too.
Edinburgh has everything: high culture and haute couture, stand-up comedy and country walks, and of course Edinburgh Castle, perched on its volcanic crag overlooking the medieval buildings of the Old Town and the magnificent Georgian architecture of the New Town. Together, they make up the UNESCO-listed World Heritage site. Better still, Edinburgh's compact size means the city's main sites are easily explored on foot. Nevertheless, plans for a new tram link from the airport to the city from May 2014 will be welcomed by visitors.
Beyond the New Town, the Water of Leith flows through the picturesque Dean Village and on via pretty Stockbridge, where young professionals sustain a tempting assortment of delis, quirky shops and cosy pubs. At the heart of nearby leafy Inverleith's century-old mansions is the renowned Royal Botanic Garden, an Edinburgh institution. Further east, Historic Leith, home to the Royal Yacht Britannia, has been transformed from seedy port into highly desirable residence, with flashy apartments and acclaimed restaurants.
Edinburgh's cosmopolitan air and vibrancy has credited Scotland's capital city with the kind of panache and attitude that you'd expect only of London. This vibe is enshrined in Edinburgh's annual international festivals calendar. Every August, the city fills with visitors anxious to catch the rising stars of the comedy circuit; hear their favourite authors read from their books; or immerse themselves in the classical music and challenging theatre of the Edinburgh International Festival.
Don't be fooled into thinking Edinburgh falls into a slumber for the rest of the year however. In early spring, legions of rugby fans descend on the city as Scotland vies to win the Six Nations trophy; you can hear the roar from Murrayfield from miles around. Over Easter, the Edinburgh International Science Festival is jam-packed with inspirational discussions and hands-on fun, while The Royal Highland Show in June showcases Scotland's finest produce. Edinburgh lights up in winter with an illuminated big wheel, bustling German Christmas market and open-air ice rink in Princes Street Gardens. Finally at Hogmanay, revellers cram into the centre to bring in the New Year with big-name bands, a rocking ceildih, gigantic street party and spectacular fireworks.
Beyond its myriad festivals, Edinburgh encompasses an enormous array of experiences: discovering dinosaurs in the renovated National Museum of Scotland or following in the footsteps of Mary Queen of Scots at the Palace of Holyroodhouse; joining a spooky tour through the narrow Old Town closes or climbing craggy Arthur's Seat; sinking a pint in a 17th-century pub or sipping mojitos in a chic George Street bar; and shopping for tartan or splashing out on designer gear at Harvey Nichols.
Edinburgh has given birth to a multitude of great fictional works from such luminaries as Robert Louis Stevenson and Sir Walter Scott to current bestselling novelists Ian Rankin and Alexander McCall Smith. Such a rich literary culture led to Edinburgh becoming the world's first ever UNESCO City of Literature in 2004.
Endowed with such credentials, Scotland's capital is worth visiting time and time again.

Witness Scotland's history from the buildings and statues at George Square.
George Square is pretty much the historic center of Glasgow. As the main city square, flanked by beautiful buildings, it reflects the story and history of Glasgow and in many ways that is Scotland. Many well known historical personalities of Glasgow have their statues here.
The most prominantly placed on a center collumn is that of Sir Walter Scott, a renowned novelist. Here is James Watt, who invented the steam engine. Poet Robert Burns. Queen Victoria. Interestingly, there is no statue of King George III, for whom this square was established in the late 18th century. When this square was laid out it was actually a grassy area. Only recently has this red surface been placed here.
The Square is surrounded by various, grand buildings. The grandest of them all is this, the City Chambers, the city Counsel Building. Since this is really the center of Glasgow, you will find both locals and tourists here. "My favorite thing about George Square is coming to eat on sunny days and sit in the sunshine. Its a good place in the center of town, just to get out and away from it all. And it is also good at Christmas time, coming and watching the ice skaters and things like that."
Football victories are started here. At Christmas the square is magnificently lit and on New Year's Eve or Hogmanay as it is called locally, the square, George Square, is the center of city celebrations. George Square is also an excellent point for you to start your city tour, as there are many information points here. I am Kirsty Macintyre showing you Glasgow.
