You can set the windows media player update to be installed automatically or you could manually check for and install updates.
You also have to be logged in to the computer as the Admin to update the media player.
To update media player manually:
Launch windows Media Player.
Switch to the library view if its not already there.
Click on the help button in the Menu bar.
Select 'Check for updates'.
To Set Media Player to Update automatically.
Click organize in the library view.
Select options.
In the Options window, click on the 'Player' tab.
Under automatic updates, select the interval option in which you want Windows Media Player to be automatically updating.

Learn how to update windows Media player manually and automatically.
Windows Media player gets updates from the manufacturers from time to time.
You can set the windows media player update to be installed automatically or you could manually check for and install updates.
You also have to be logged in to the computer as the Admin to update the media player.
To update media player manually:
Launch windows Media Player.
Switch to the library view if its not already there.
Click on the help button in the Menu bar.
Select 'Check for updates'.
To Set Media Player to Update automatically.
Click organize in the library view.
Select options.
In the Options window, click on the 'Player' tab.
Under automatic updates, select the interval option in which you want Windows Media Player to be automatically updating.

Xeon E3-1230 V3 HTPC build and Windows Media Center setup
I had been using a tower case sitting next to my TV as my HTPC setup for a few months and decided it was time to move to something that fit better with the entertainment system. Enter the BitFenix Phenom Micro ATX case. Using this case, I was able to move some of my components from the old NZXT tower case into something that I could fit under my TV in my entertainment center. I had been using a tower case sitting next to my TV as my HTPC setup for a few months and decided it was time to move to something that fit better with the entertainment system. Enter the BitFenix Phenom Micro ATX case. Using this case, I was able to move some of my components from the old NZXT tower case into something that I could fit under my TV in my entertainment center.
Be sure to check out the post-build part of the video for how to get everything running with Windows Media Center on Windows 8.1 and my HDHomeRun Prime cable card LAN tuner. With this setup, I am able to record live TV on my HTPC and stream live and recorded TV to my bedroom via my Xbox 360.
