“Former Subway sandwich chain pitchman Jared Fogle on Thursday was sentenced to 15-1/2 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to child pornography and sex charges.
Fogle, who became famous after losing weight on a diet that included sandwiches from the fast-food chain, agreed in August to a deal with prosecutors under which he would plead guilty to charges of child pornography and traveling for illicit paid sex with minors.
Fogle agreed in court on Thursday to avoid pornography, get sexual disorder treatment and will be a registered sex offender. U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt also sentenced him to a lifetime of supervision and a $175,000 fine.
Pratt went beyond what either side wanted: prosecutors had sought a 12-1/2 year sentence, while Fogle's attorneys had asked for five years.”

Former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle is appearing in federal court after pleading guilty to one count of possession of child pornography and one count of traveling across state lines to have sex with a minor. He could face up to 50 years behind bars.
Here are five things to know:
THE HEARING
The hearing begins at 9 a.m. Eastern in the federal courthouse in Indianapolis, and could last as long as a few hours.
Spectators in the courtroom will have to turn off their electronic devices, not just silenced.
The judge issued a decorum order this week to spell out the rules.
THE SENTENCE
Under federal law, Fogle faces a sentence of five to 50 years in prison.
Fogle's attorneys are asking for five years. Federal prosecutors are asking for 12½ years. A presentencing report recommends 11 years and three months to 14 years.
The judge will make the final decision within the five to 50 range.
THE JUDGE
U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt is widely considered the toughest judge in the Southern District in terms of prison sentences.
Pratt, appointed to the bench in 2010, is Indiana's first African-American federal judge. From 2008 to 2010, she was a judge in the Marion Superior Court, Probate Division.
She served as presiding judge of the Marion Superior Court, Criminal Division, from 1997 to 2008. She was elected Marion Superior Court judge in November 1996.
FOGLE WILL SPEAK
Fogle’s first public statement about his actions will come in the courtroom. In a filing last week, defense attorneys said Fogle will speak in a legal process called allocution. That process allows a defendant to make a statement, but not be questioned by prosecutors.
Fogle's attorneys also have notified the court that forensic psychiatrist John Bradford of the University of Ottawa and psychologist Rick May of Aurora, Colo., will testify.
It's uncertain whether any of the victims will speak.
THE PRISON
The judge probably will decide to have Fogle taken into custody immediately, given that he has had three months of home detention since agreeing to plead guilty. It is possible, though, that Pratt would allow him to start his prison sentence in a few weeks.
The judge can make a recommendation for where Fogle is sent, but after he is taken into custody, the Bureau of Prisons will make the decision. A spokesman for the bureau declined to comment. It's likely Fogle will be taken to one of two prisons in Kentucky — Grayson County in Leitchfield or Henderson County in Henderson — both of which have a contract for short-term incarceration of federal convicts.
Within a few weeks, Fogle would be transferred to a long-term facility. It's uncertain where Fogle will be assigned, but the federal prison system includes two medium-security facilities for the treatment of resident sex offenders with an "elevated risk of reoffending" — in Marion, Ill., and Devens, Mass.

The Jared Foundation gave most of the money it did spend to its embattled executive director, Russell Taylor, USA Today reported.

Former Subway sandwich pitchman Jared Fogle was sentenced to 15 years and 8 months in prison Thursday for possession and distribution of child pornography and traveling across state lines for commercial sex with a minor.
U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt announced the sentence in federal court in Indianapolis.
Fogle was taken into custody of the U.S. Marshal after the four-hour, 42-minute hearing. He was handcuffed behind his back and led out of the courtroom as family members hugged and cried.
Immediately after the hearing, Fogle blew a kiss and waved goodbye to family members in the front row. About a dozen family members and friends attended the hearing.
The sentence is more than the 12½ years that prosecutors agreed to seek in a plea deal. Pratt said the advisory sentence range of 135 to 168 months "does not sufficiently account for the defendant's criminal conduct."
As per federal sentencing guidelines, he must serve 85% of his sentence before he is eligible for release.

Jared S. Fogle (born December 1, 1977), also known as The Subway Guy, is a spokesman employed by Subway Restaurants in its advertising campaigns. He is known for his significant weight loss, now known as the "Subway diet", attributed to eating Subway sandwiches, which led to his role promoting the company.
Fogle first came to media attention in April 1999, after Ryan Coleman, a former dormmate of Fogle, ran into him and hardly recognized him because of the lost weight, and wrote an article for Indiana Daily Student about Fogle's weight loss.Men's Health magazine confirmed the story and included the "Subway sandwich diet" in an article, "Stupid Diets. . . that Work!" According to the article, Fogle had become obese by eating junk food and not exercising. Switching to eating at Subway, he changed his eating habits there to include healthier choices and smaller portions free of fattening condiments such as mayonnaise, which was followed by his significant weight loss. A Chicago-area Subway franchisee took the idea to Subway's Chicago advertising agency. The agency confirmed the story by visiting a Subway franchise near the Indiana University campus, where the staff identified him from his description.

Former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle is appearing in federal court after pleading guilty to one count of possession of child pornography and one count of traveling across state lines to have sex with a minor. He could face up to 50 years behind bars.
Here are five things to know:
THE HEARING
The hearing begins at 9 a.m. Eastern in the federal courthouse in Indianapolis, and could last as long as a few hours.
Spectators in the courtroom will have to turn off their electronic devices, not just silenced.
The judge issued a decorum order this week to spell out the rules.
THE SENTENCE
Under federal law, Fogle faces a sentence of five to 50 years in prison.
Fogle's attorneys are asking for five years. Federal prosecutors are asking for 12½ years. A presentencing report recommends 11 years and three months to 14 years.
The judge will make the final decision within the five to 50 range.
THE JUDGE
U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt is widely considered the toughest judge in the Southern District in terms of prison sentences.
Pratt, appointed to the bench in 2010, is Indiana's first African-American federal judge. From 2008 to 2010, she was a judge in the Marion Superior Court, Probate Division.
She served as presiding judge of the Marion Superior Court, Criminal Division, from 1997 to 2008. She was elected Marion Superior Court judge in November 1996.
FOGLE WILL SPEAK
Fogle’s first public statement about his actions will come in the courtroom. In a filing last week, defense attorneys said Fogle will speak in a legal process called allocution. That process allows a defendant to make a statement, but not be questioned by prosecutors.
Fogle's attorneys also have notified the court that forensic psychiatrist John Bradford of the University of Ottawa and psychologist Rick May of Aurora, Colo., will testify.
It's uncertain whether any of the victims will speak.
THE PRISON
The judge probably will decide to have Fogle taken into custody immediately, given that he has had three months of home detention since agreeing to plead guilty. It is possible, though, that Pratt would allow him to start his prison sentence in a few weeks.
The judge can make a recommendation for where Fogle is sent, but after he is taken into custody, the Bureau of Prisons will make the decision. A spokesman for the bureau declined to comment. It's likely Fogle will be taken to one of two prisons in Kentucky — Grayson County in Leitchfield or Henderson County in Henderson — both of which have a contract for short-term incarceration of federal convicts.
Within a few weeks, Fogle would be transferred to a long-term facility. It's uncertain where Fogle will be assigned, but the federal prison system includes two medium-security facilities for the treatment of resident sex offenders with an "elevated risk of reoffending" — in Marion, Ill., and Devens, Mass.

The Jared Foundation gave most of the money it did spend to its embattled executive director, Russell Taylor, USA Today reported.
The charity was supposed to shell out $2 million a year to schools and community organizations. But the foundation spent an average $73,000 per year from 2009 to 2013, USA Today reported, citing the organization's tax records. Sixty percent of that went to Taylor, and 26 percent is unaccounted for.”

Former Subway sandwich pitchman Jared Fogle was sentenced to 15 years and 8 months in prison Thursday for possession and distribution of child pornography and traveling across state lines for commercial sex with a minor.
U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt announced the sentence in federal court in Indianapolis.
Fogle was taken into custody of the U.S. Marshal after the four-hour, 42-minute hearing. He was handcuffed behind his back and led out of the courtroom as family members hugged and cried.
Immediately after the hearing, Fogle blew a kiss and waved goodbye to family members in the front row. About a dozen family members and friends attended the hearing.
The sentence is more than the 12½ years that prosecutors agreed to seek in a plea deal. Pratt said the advisory sentence range of 135 to 168 months "does not sufficiently account for the defendant's criminal conduct."
As per federal sentencing guidelines, he must serve 85% of his sentence before he is eligible for release.

"The FBI has subpoenaed an affidavit containing alleged texts between former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle and a former female Subway franchisee in which Fogle says he paid for sex with a 16-year-old girl, according to the former franchisee's attorney.
The former franchisee shared the texts and her concerns about Fogle with Subway management at the time, her lawyer says, but Subway did nothing. Subway says it has no record of the woman's complaint.
The woman's lawyer, who asked to remain anonymous, said the FBI recently subpoenaed his law office for the text-message conversations, which Business Insider has viewed."

Authorities searched an Indiana home of longtime Subway spokesman Jared Fogle Tuesday in a probe the sandwich chain says may be linked to an investigation of someone who once worked for Fogle's foundation.
Investigators removed computers from the home in Zionsville, just north of Indianapolis, after arriving around 6 a.m., Fogle attorney Ron Elberger said, without disclosing what they were looking for.
Elberger said Fogle, the man who soared to fame 15 years ago after saying he shed more than 200 pounds in part through a Subway diet, has not been charged or arrested.
"Jared has been cooperating with law enforcement in its investigation of certain unspecified activities and looks forward to its conclusion," the attorney said.

James R. Fitzgerald was the Program Manager of Threat Assessment/Forensic Linguistics at the Behavioral Analysis Unit 1 of the FBI. Fitzgerald knew little about profiling or linguistics when he joined the FBI in 1987. But, while assigned to the field office in New York City, he worked cases involving stalking or threatening letters sent to Jane Pauley, Bryant Gumbel, Don Imus, Donald Trump, and Rush Limbaugh, among others.
In 1995, Fitzgerald became a profiler at the FBI Academy at Quantico, Va. As part of Fitzgerald’s profiler training, he learned about analyzing communications. He later obtained a Master’s degree in linguistics from Georgetown University. (This was his second MS. His first was in Organizational Psychology at Villanova University.) As he has at his present company, The Academy Group, Fitzgerald created a linguistic-oriented database of threatening and/or suspicious letters, similar to one the Secret Service maintains.Fitzgerald now works for the Academy Group in Manassas, Va., which provides profiling services for private industry as well as a university instructor, author, and technical advisor for television programs (Criminal Minds) involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Loni Coombs attended Brigham Young University, graduating at the age of nineteen with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and minors in philosophy and music. In 1988, after graduating from Pepperdine Law School, Loni began her legal career as a criminal trial prosecutor for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Her numerous felony trials ranged from murders to sex crimes and DUIs. From 2003 to 2005, Loni headed up the District Attorney’s Hate Crimes Unit, monitoring discrimination cases throughout the county and training law enforcement agencies.
In 2006, Ms. Coombs transitioned into the broadcast world as a legal analyst for national and local broadcast outlets, including CNN, Court TV (now TruTV), Extra, The View, Entertainment Tonight, and KTLA. Loni covered various trials including Phil Spector, OJ Simpson, Warren Jeffs, and Casey Anthony. Her daily coverage of the Phil Spector trial on KTLA.com earned her an AP award. Loni anchored newscasts (KTLA’s Prime News, KDOC’s Daybreak OC), co-hosted talk shows (KTLA’s 9 am Morning Show, Fox’s San Diego Living), and reported from the field (KTLA’s Morning News and Prime News). Loni appears as a regular contributor on “Dr. Phil”, “The Doctors”, and "Dr. Drew."

GUEST BIO:
James R. Fitzgerald was the Program Manager of Threat Assessment/Forensic Linguistics at the Behavioral Analysis Unit 1 of the FBI. Fitzgerald knew little about profiling or linguistics when he joined the FBI in 1987. But, while assigned to the field office in New York City, he worked cases involving stalking or threatening letters sent to Jane Pauley, Bryant Gumbel, Don Imus, Donald Trump, and Rush Limbaugh, among others.
In 1995, Fitzgerald became a profiler at the FBI Academy at Quantico, Va. As part of Fitzgerald’s profiler training, he learned about analyzing communications. He later obtained a Master’s degree in linguistics from Georgetown University. (This was his second MS. His first was in Organizational Psychology at Villanova University.) As he has at his present company, The Academy Group, Fitzgerald created a linguistic-oriented database of threatening and/or suspicious letters, similar to one the Secret Service maintains.Fitzgerald now works for the Academy Group in Manassas, Va., which provides profiling services for private industry as well as a university instructor, author, and technical advisor for television programs (Criminal Minds) involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Loni Coombs attended Brigham Young University, graduating at the age of nineteen with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and minors in philosophy and music. In 1988, after graduating from Pepperdine Law School, Loni began her legal career as a criminal trial prosecutor for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Her numerous felony trials ranged from murders to sex crimes and DUIs. From 2003 to 2005, Loni headed up the District Attorney’s Hate Crimes Unit, monitoring discrimination cases throughout the county and training law enforcement agencies.
In 2006, Ms. Coombs transitioned into the broadcast world as a legal analyst for national and local broadcast outlets, including CNN, Court TV (now TruTV), Extra, The View, Entertainment Tonight, and KTLA. Loni covered various trials including Phil Spector, OJ Simpson, Warren Jeffs, and Casey Anthony. Her daily coverage of the Phil Spector trial on KTLA.com earned her an AP award. Loni anchored newscasts (KTLA’s Prime News, KDOC’s Daybreak OC), co-hosted talk shows (KTLA’s 9 am Morning Show, Fox’s San Diego Living), and reported from the field (KTLA’s Morning News and Prime News). Loni appears as a regular contributor on “Dr. Phil”, “The Doctors”, and "Dr. Drew."

CNN)Former Subway pitchman Jared Fogle is expected to plead guilty to charges related to possession of child pornography, two law enforcement officials told CNN on Tuesday.
The sandwich chain suspended its relationship with Fogle earlier this year after investigators raided his Indiana home.

The raid came more than two months after Russell C. Taylor, the executive director of the Jared Foundation, was arrested in Indianapolis on federal child pornography charges.

Contacted Tuesday by CNN, Taylor's attorney declined to comment on the development. Attempts to contact Fogle's attorney, Ron Elberger, were not immediately successful, although he did tell CNN affiliate WXIN that he had no comment.
Subway tweeted that it no longer has a relationship with Fogle.
Fogle became famous in 2000 when the sandwich chain released a commercial centered on his claims that he dropped about 245 pounds -- from a peak weight of 425 -- in one year as an Indiana University student, thanks in part to exercise and a simpler diet involving Subway subs.

Authorities previously said that Taylor, 43, of Indianapolis, was charged in May with seven counts of production of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.
During an April search at Taylor's home, authorities found "a cache of sexually explicit photos and videos Taylor allegedly produced by secretly filming minor children" there, federal prosecutors said in statement.
After Taylor's arrest, Fogle issued a statement saying he was shocked at the allegations and that his foundation was severing its ties with Taylor, CNN affiliate WTHR reported.
