Ramallah (Arabic: رام الله 
(help·info) Rāmallāh) (literally "Height of God") is a Palestinian city in the central West Bank located 10 kilometers (6 miles) north of Jerusalem, adjacent to al-Bireh. It currently serves as the de facto administrative capital of the Palestinian National Authority. With a population of nearly 25,500, Ramallah was historically a Christian town, but today Muslims form the majority of the population, with a strong Christian minority.
Modern Ramallah was founded in the mid-16th century by the Haddadins, a Jordanian tribe of brothers descended from Ghassanid Christian Arabs. The Haddadins, led by Rashid Haddadin, arrived from east of the Jordan River near the Jordanian town of Shoubak. The Haddadin migration is attributed to fighting and unrest among clans in that area. According to modern living descendents of original Haddadin family members, Rashid's brother Sabra Haddadin was hosting Emir Ibn Kaysoom, head of a powerful Muslim clan in the region, when Sabra's wife gave birth to a baby girl. According to custom, the Emir proposed a betrothal to his own young son when they came of age. Sabra believed the proposal was in jest, as Muslim-Christian marriages were not customary, and gave his word. When the Emir later came to the Haddadins and demanded that they fulfill their promise, they refused. This set off bloody conflict between the two families. The Haddadins fled west and settled on the hilltops of Ramallah, where only a few Muslim families lived at the time. Today, a large community of people descended directly from the Haddadins live in the United States. The town is now predominately Muslim.

Israeli forces brutally confront Palestinian protesters in Ramallah amid a spike in violence in the occupied territories.
Israeli troops arrested several Palestinians and injured over a dozen others following clashes in Ramallah. They also fired tear gas and rubber bullets at the protesters near Beit El settlement. Meanwhile, Israeli forces have shot four Palestinians in various parts of the occupied territories, killing at least one of them. Tel Aviv says the targeted Palestinians tried to attack Israeli settlers and soldiers. The Palestinian Ministry of Health, as well as the Red Crescent medical agency, announced that some 130 Palestinians were injured across the West Bank and East Jerusalem al-Quds on Tuesday alone. Roberto's place has basically the same old fireplace that I have at my cabin back in the Cascades. This brought me unexpected joy as I spent each evening fireside, catching up on my writing late into the night. Something I never dreamed I’d take home from Tuscany: an appreciation for how beautifully oak burns. And each morning as the fire crackled, I’d watch the lifting fog slowly reveal the surrounding valleys.

A l’occasion du centenaire de la municipalité de Ramallah en 2008, une soirée a été organisée en hommage au poète palestinien Mahmoud Darwish au Palais de la Culture. Sa dernière collection de poèmes a été présentée, accompagnée par la troupe musicale «Joubran» qui avait l’habitude de l’accompagner au cours des soirées de poésie. Cette soirée fut la dernière vu qu’il est décédé un mois plus tard ; on dit qu’au cours de cette soirée il avait prédit sa mort à travers le poème « le joueur de dés » ; après cette soirée il s’était rendu aux USA pour des soins et c’est là qu’il mourut alors qu’il subissait une opération.

Suad Amiry is a Palestinian architect. She grew up in Amman, Damascus, Beirut, and Cairo as a result of her parents leaving Jaffa as refugees in 1948. She is the author of "Sharon and my Mother--in-Law: Ramallah Diaries" translated into 11 langages, about life under Israeli occupation describing her experience particularly during the 10-month siege of Ramallah in 2002. For it, she was awarded the prestigious Viareggio Prize in Italy in 2004. Suad is the founder and director of RIWAQ: the Center for Architectural Conservation, a non--profit organization dedicated to preserving and restoring Palestinian buildings, which received the Aga Khan prize for Architectural Restoration. She participated in the 1991-1993 Israeli--Palestinian peace negotiations in Washington, D.C., and later served as assistant deputy minister and director general of the Ministry of Culture in Palestine.
سعاد العامري معمارية فلسطينية هجر والداها من يافا عام 1948 . عاشت في كل من دمشق، وعمان، وبيروت والقاهرة. هي مؤلفة كتاب "شارون وحماتي: يوميات رام الله" (لندن: غرانتا 2005) الذي تصف فيه تجربتها في العيش في الضفة الغربية تحت الإحتلال الإسرائيلي منذ أوائل الثمانينات، مركزة على حصار رام الله الشهير الذي دام عشرة أشهر في العام 2002 . ترجم الكتاب الى إحدى عشرة لغة، وحاز على جائزة فياريجيو الشهيرة في إيطاليا، ووصل إلى قائمة الكتب الأكثر مبيعاً في فرنسا. درست سعاد الهندسة المعمارية في الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت، وفي جامعة ميشيغان في الولايات المتحدة وفي جامعة إدينبرا في أسكتلندا. وانتقلت إلى رام الله عام 1981 للتدريس في جامعة بيرزيت. سعاد مؤسسة رواق: مركزالمعمار الشعبي، وهي منظمة غير ربحية تعمل على الحفاظ على المباني الفلسطينية التراثية وترميمها. وقد شاركت خلال الفترة الواقعة بين 1991 و1993 في مفاوضات السلام الفلسطينية- الإسرائيلية التي جرت في العاصمة الأمريكية واشنطن، ومن ثم عملت كوكيل مساعد ومديرعام في وزارة الثقافة الفلسطينية.

Suad is the founder and director of RIWAQ: the Center for Architectural Conservation, a non--profit organization dedicated to preserving and restoring Palestinian buildings, which received the Aga Khan prize for Architectural Restoration. She participated in the 1991-1993 Israeli--Palestinian peace negotiations in Washington, D.C., and later served as assistant deputy minister and director general of the Ministry of Culture in Palestine.
سعاد العامري معمارية فلسطينية هجر والداها من يافا عام 1948 . عاشت في كل من دمشق، وعمان، وبيروت والقاهرة. هي مؤلفة كتاب "شارون وحماتي: يوميات رام الله" (لندن: غرانتا 2005) الذي تصف فيه تجربتها في العيش في الضفة الغربية تحت الإحتلال الإسرائيلي منذ أوائل الثمانينات، مركزة على حصار رام الله الشهير الذي دام عشرة أشهر في العام 2002 . ترجم الكتاب الى إحدى عشرة لغة، وحاز على جائزة فياريجيو الشهيرة في إيطاليا، ووصل إلى قائمة الكتب الأكثر مبيعاً في فرنسا. درست سعاد الهندسة المعمارية في الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت، وفي جامعة ميشيغان في الولايات المتحدة وفي جامعة إدينبرا في أسكتلندا. وانتقلت إلى رام الله عام 1981 للتدريس في جامعة بيرزيت. سعاد مؤسسة رواق: مركزالمعمار الشعبي، وهي منظمة غير ربحية تعمل على الحفاظ على المباني الفلسطينية التراثية وترميمها. وقد شاركت خلال الفترة الواقعة بين 1991 و1993 في مفاوضات السلام الفلسطينية- الإسرائيلية التي جرت في العاصمة الأمريكية واشنطن، ومن ثم عملت كوكيل مساعد ومديرعام في وزارة الثقافة الفلسطينية.

Das Ashtar Theatre wurde 1991 in Jerusalem von den bekannten palästinensischen SchauspielerInnen Edward Muallem und Iman Aoun gegründet. Mittlerweile befindet sich der Hauptsitz des Theaters in Ramallah. Mit Schauspiel-Schulungen und Interaktionstheater versucht die Jugendgruppe, auf kreative Weise gesellschaftliche Veränderungen in Gang zu bringen. Sechs Schauspieler zwischen 14 und 18 Jahren sind auf Einladung der KinderKulturKarawane in Deutschland unterwegs.
Aufgeführt werden u.a. die “Gaza-Monologe”, entstanden aus Niederschriften von Jugendlichen in Gaza, mit denen die Gruppe bekannt geworden ist. Für die KinderKulturKarawane 2014 bringt das Ashtar Theatre seine eigene Bühnenversion der Monologe aus dem Jahr 2010 mit, die von denselben Jugendlichen aufgeführt werden, die sie damals niederschrieben. Seit der Entstehung der Monologe ist die Situation in Gaza nicht nur konfliktreich geblieben, sie ist schlimmer geworden. Wie bewerten und interpretieren die Kinder und Jugendlichen ihre Texte heute, und wie hilft das Theater ihnen dabei, mit ihren schwierigen Lebensumständen umzugehen?

Undercover Israeli agents killed a Palestinian in a West Bank hospital while arresting his cousin wanted for a knife attack, in what Amnesty condemned Thursday as an apparent "extrajudicial killing" ...
