Bad Company are an English hard rock supergroup formed in Westminster, London, in 1973 by two former Free band members—singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke—as well as Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs and King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell.Peter Grant, who managed the rock band Led Zeppelin, also managed Bad Company until 1982.
Bad Company enjoyed great success throughout the 1970s. Their first three albums, Bad Company (1974), Straight Shooter (1975), and Run With the Pack (1976), reached the top five in the album charts in both the UK and US. Many of their singles, such as "Bad Company", "Can't Get Enough", "Good Lovin' Gone Bad", and "Feel Like Makin' Love", remain staples of classic rock radio.
There was a rumour that singer Paul Rodgers was so enamored with the Jeff Bridges film Bad Company that he chose to name his band after it, but Rodgers, in an interview with Spinner.com, explained that the idea came from a book of Victorian morals that showed a picture of an innocent kid looking up at an unsavory character leaning against a lamppost. The caption read "beware of bad company".
Michael Geoffrey "Mick" Ralphs (born 31 March 1944) is an English guitarist and songwriter, who was a founding member of rock bands Mott the Hoople and Bad Company.
Ralphs began his career as a teenager, playing with blues-rock band the Buddies. He released a single with that group in 1964 before joining the Mod Doc Thomas Group in 1966. After an eponymous Italian album debut, the band changed its name twice, first to Silence in 1968 and then, in 1969, to Mott the Hoople. Ralphs remained with Mott the Hoople until 1973.
In 1974, he founded Bad Company along with vocalist Paul Rodgers from Free. The band's debut album that year included the Ralphs'-penned hit "Can't Get Enough", for which Ralphs tuned his guitar in the open-C tuning C-C-G-C-E-C, stating, "It never really sounds right in standard tuning. It needs the open C to have that ring." The debut album reached number one in the United States. Ralphs continued to record and tour with Bad Company until the original band folded in 1982.

What separates a good design from a bad design are the decisions that the designer made. In this hour-long video, recorded live at An Event Apart San Diego 2010, Jared Spool explores the five styles of design decisions, showing you when gut instinct produces the right results, and when designers need to look to more user-focused research. Jared Spool (@jmspool) is the founding principal of User Interface Engineering, a leading research, training, and consulting firm specializing in website and product usability. Jared has been working in the field of usability and design since 1978, before the term “usability” was ever associated with computers. He spends his time working with the research teams at the company, helping clients understand how to solve their design problems, explaining t...

Choreographed/Directed/Conceived by Austin McCormick Costumes: Olivera Gajic Set Design: Zane Pihlstrom Lighting Design: Gina Scherr “Although the story of Adam and Eve is as old as mankind, McCormick’s choreography is absolutely not. What it is: imaginative, visually striking, fresh, exciting, erotic, compelling, articulate, and brilliantly theatrical. Tired of superlatives yet? Too bad. We at Staple were almost at our wit’s end when the creative guys at Brickhouse Projects reached out to do something beautiful with the snow. We made two videos to showcase the Staple Spring 2014 Collection, and this is the first. Everything about this is symbolic of the Love and Hate we feel for New York right now. It’s both grimy and gorgeous, murky and obscured (in neon) and bright white as our skin gets sunburned by light reflecting off the snow. the1st go-'round of trying out/finding my way around the recently released iPad app VJay, which is damned f---ing well built … really the only thing that's kind of a bummer about it is that it was only built for the iOS, w/o a desktop version (the company's DJay app being my most preferred to use on both platforms for any sort of DJ work). So it's really cooll for improvising on the fly, and probably for integrating free-wheel into a larger rig, but i'd be hard pressed to have to run a show off it if it was center-focus … not impossible, but it'd be a biatch and a half to be sure. So, yeah, the audio tracks are experimenting with recombining Tom Waits' BAD AS ME with Lady GaGa's Bad Romance [i just figured i'd wing it and see if anything could be made of them togenther) and a bunch of p...

Mary: I gotta change shoes. Mary: Okay, there we go. Now, that’s so much better. Stuart: Ladies and gentlemen, obviously, let’s begin at the beginning. Normally, the protocol is that we give people a round of applause at the end of the event. In this particular case, we’re going to break with all the protocols, because I know a lot of people that are in the audience, I’ve seen faces, I’ve seen people with reputations in the audience, and I think that all of us can say, unanimously that, Mary probably doesn’t really deeply understand how much impact her singing and her reputation has had in our lives, the way it’s shaped the love that we’ve got for the music. So, ladies and gentlemen, Mary Wilson of The Supremes, come on. [applause] Stuart: So, where to start? Let’s start with a quick q...
Many questions were asked. All were answered from the mind and mouth of Stone Brewing Company CEO, Greg Koch. The Questions: From Facebook Frank DiNicola: I would like to know if Stone plans on doing any more lotteries for some of their specialty beers? Although I wasn't lucky enough to win a Quingenti Millilitre bottle, I loved the fact that the proceeds went to local charities. Kirk Rodriguez: Of all names to go with, why Stone? Steven Martinez: I want to know what got them [you and Steve] in brewing business ? Luis Castaneda: 15th anniversary ale is my favorite stone brew ever and in my top 10 all-time favorite beers overall. Any sneak peeks/hints at what the 16th anniversary will be like? Anthony Latour: I don't like your beers. Why? Gordon Roth: What is your water source?...

This week Paul McCabe shared his business transformation insights at Hyper Island in Karlskrona. - Things need to change in order to stay the same, says Paul McCabe. Four years ago, Paul McCabe was the CEO of a successful advertising agency. He was well paid and comfortable - and he absolutely hated it. - I questioned a lot of the energy and time that we were spending on campaigns that I didn’t really believe in. I became robotic and wanted a new role where I could make more of a difference. Today Paul McCabe makes a difference by working as a business consultant for Fortune 500 companies, helping them change to become more digital and sustainable. - I work to change companies...

Unite Clothing Company is proud to announce the launch of Unite TV, a Podcast series based primarily on the Unite Team and their life experiences at home and abroad. Unite TV Episode 1 features Winston McCall in his debut video part and is released to coincide with his eight page interview in Riptide 184. Winston filmed the entire section throughout Winter 2011 in between tours with his band Parkway Drive and the footage is largely from the same sessions included in his Riptide profile. “We lucked into a couple of swells down South and it was a great Winter at home,” Winston claimed. “We got super lucky, there were solid back to back swells with good winds and classic banks. Iʼm normally away when conditions like that line up,” he laughed. Winston once again teamed up with Caleb Graham,...

It sounds like the pitch for a Marilyn Manson video. Delve a little further, though, and you’ll find it a surprisingly raw and beautiful look into the creative pursuits of two kindred spirits who were lucky enough to find each other. KalistäcK is the stage name of duo Lady Pain and Cha Blasco, two Barcelona-based artists who combine their skills and passions (his for progressive, synth-based music and hers for suspension and ...
