Adelaide

With a population of 1.23 million, Adelaide is the nation's fifth largest city. It was founded in 1836 as a free settler's province, and not a British convict colony. Adelaide is known for its beautiful architecture, festival culture and food and wine scene.

Because of its exciting culinary scene, visitors and locals alike enjoy regular food and wine tours and tastings. It was also voted the Most Liveable City in Australia in 2012 by the Property Council of Australia.

Residents of Adelaide experience a reasonably trouble-free transport system, and the city was once known as the "twenty minute city", named after the time it would take to travel between the city centre and the outskirts. Although due to population growth this is no longer the case, commuting within Adelaide is still considered better than Melbourne or Sydney. Hollywood actors Anthony LaPaglia and Teresa Palmer were both born in Adelaide.
