British Columbiai/ˌbrɪtɪʃkəˈlʌmbiə/ (B.C. or BC) (French: la Colombie-Britannique, C.-B.) is the westernmost of Canada's provinces and is known for its natural beauty, as reflected in its Latin motto, Splendor sine occasu ("Splendour without Diminishment"). Its name was chosen by Queen Victoria in 1858. In 1871, it became the sixth province of Canada.
As well as being the westernmost province of Western Canada, British Columbia is also a component of the Pacific Northwest, along with the US states of Oregon and Washington. The province has strong cultural and personal ties to the Prairie Provinces and Ontario as well as to the West Coast of the United States and to Alaska and the Yukon.

Vancouver is a coastal seaport city on the mainland of British Columbia, Canada. The 2011 census recorded 603,502 people in the city, making it the eighth largest Canadian municipality. Vancouver is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities in Canada; 52% of its residents do not speak English as their first language.
The most important places to visit in Vancouver are: Granville Island (a popular peninsula connected to Vancouver. With it's colorful market, it's a draw amongst locals and visitors alike), Stanley Park (Vancouver wouldn't be the same without Stanley Park, one of the great urban parks. It's a perfect city escape), Chinatown (the second largest Chinatown in North America after San Francisco. It has many unique, as well as traditional shops), Gastown (a national historic site. Explore the cobbled streets, shopping, dining and unique architecture), Grouse Mountain (overlooking Vancouver city, this recreational has winter skiing and even an excellent wildlife refuge) and many more.
This video offers a lot of tips to help you plan the perfect vacation. Travel video about destination Vancouver in Canada.
Vancouver is the third largest city in Canada and one of the most beautiful on the American continent, a dynamic metropolis set in a beautiful location with a temperate climate throughout the year.
Close to the harbor area, the city's skyscrapers have proliferated in recent years. The capital of the southwestern province of British Columbia has developed into an economic centre of renown.
The city's oldest buildings were built less than 100 years ago because the former wooden houses of old Vancouver were destroyed by fire. Several buildings reflect the origin of their inhabitants and are similar to those in the United States and Europe.
Inspired by the Colosseum in Rome, an elegant structure of pink stone and glass, Canada Place, is located in the busy centre of the new harbor district and is also the city's most recent landmark. Close by is Harbor Centre, a modern skyscraper complex with a shopping centre and a Skylift to the top floor. A glass elevator transports visitors to a 167-metre high observation platform where the view across the city, harbor and bay is overwhelming.
The exciting Skytrain is the city's most popular means of transport, an ultra-modern train built on posts that zig zags its way through the city. Each of the city's most important destinations are easily accessible and it has reduced the city's traffic problems considerably.
For the World Exhibition of 1986, on the edge of Chinatown, gardeners and craftsmen from Suzhou, China established Canada's first classical Chinese garden, the Doctor Sun Yat Sen Garden. Its ponds, bridges and small pavilions are similar to those in China, masterpieces of Far Eastern garden design.
Everything in Vancouver is youthful, attractive and dynamic, a place in which Canadian politeness unites with the Pacific way of life!

True Paradise- Gulf Islands, British Columbia, Canada
British Columbia’s beautiful Gulf Islands are one of Canada and the world’s biggest tourist destinations. With excellent sports and recreation including boating, hiking, cycling and diving, this year round paradise offers the outdoor adventurer numerous options. Good restaurants and a vast array of arts and crafts add to the mix. Year round festivals and farmer’s markets are found throughout the region.
Made up of over a dozen large islands, the Southern Gulf Islands are interspersed with a multitude of islets too numerous to count. Every island has its’ own unique flavour with Salt Spring Island, the most heavily populated having a rural landscape with a bustling arts and local food community while others like Saturna Island and Thetis Island being less densely populated retreats away from the bustle of civilization. This special west coast Gulf Islands paradise of Canada is a small taste of the Mediterranean, blended with a uniquely Canadian flavour.
The BC Gulf Islands enjoy less than 30 inches of rain per year, highlighted by long dry summers and mild winters. Lying southwest of the Strait of Georgia and north of the US San Juan Islands and along the coast of Vancouver Island between Campbell River to the north and Victoria to the south, this necklace of islands is surrounded by sheltered waters, strong tides, and dramatic coastlines.
The Gulf Islands Guide brings alive the diversity and culture of British Columbia’s beautiful Gulf Island paradise.

Canada's War on Weed
With a reported value of over six billion dollars, it's no secret that marijuana in British Columbia is big business. However, due to the recent legalization of weed in Washington and Colorado, the draconian crime laws pushed forward by the Canadian Conservative government's omnibus crime bill, and recent changes to medical marijuana regulations, the entire industry is suddenly facing an identity crisis. VICE Canada went west to talk to the people directly affected by these recent events: from the legalization activists and the large and small scale growers, to the illegal traffickers and law enforcement, we talked to the people on the front

In 1998, Cannabis Common Sense went on-location to British Columbia to interview cannabis activist Marc Emery "The Prince of Pot" for the series.
Emery was essential to the fall of cannabis prohibition in the United States by spearheading an "Overgrow the Government" campaign in the effort to get cannabis seeds to US residents. He then donated proceeds into initiatives in the U.S. to end cannabis prohibition.
After serving a five year sentence in the U.S. for selling seeds, Emery was released in 2014.

VICE Canada went west to talk to the people directly affected by these recent events: from the legalization activists and the large and small scale growers, to the illegal traffickers and law enforcement, we talked to the people on the front lines of the battle for control over one of Canada's most undervalued resource.

"Your Call May Be Recorded": The Evolving Boundaries of Workplace Privacy in Canada
Growing use of drug testing, GPS tracking, electronic surveillance and even gathering of biological information have increased employers' ability to monitor, control and secure their worksites to levels never before seen. However, these new tools can also pose significant threat to workers' rights of privacy. Questions around employee privacy are increasingly making headlines and raising serious legal conundrums. This presentation will provide an overview of the state of workplace privacy in Canada. It will examine the current status of workplace privacy in the law and will, more importantly, discuss the practical consequences of new invasive technologies available to employers. It will analyze workplace privacy in the context of the employment relationship and the inherent conflict between employers and workers over what happens at work.
JASON FOSTER is Academic Coordinator for Industrial Relations at Athabasca University and is a Ph.D. Candidate at St. Mary's University. His research interests include migrant workers, union renewal, labour history and diversity as well as equity in unions. He is also a close observer of workplace-related privacy issues. On a more serious note, Jason is also a beer writer, educator and certified beer judge.

The Move Toward Government 2.0 Identity Management Systems: What's at Stake?
In recent years the Province of British Columbia has been transforming its approach to governance by moving toward a comprehensive "Government 2.0" identity management system. This initiative changes the way the province collects, accesses, and shares the sensitive personal information of residents across public departments, as well as between public and private sectors.
The BC Services Card (BCSC) is a major policy component of the larger Government 2.0 transition. Private contractors currently provide authentication services associated the BCSC, and the card is also being considered by the BC Government to facilitate commercial transactions. The BCSC is expected to be replicated in other provincial jurisdictions across Canada, and the potential for it to be leveraged into a pan-Canadian Identity Management System is already in place. This presentation will examine key normative, technical, and policy implications of the BCSC in light of the significant security, privacy, and civil liberties concerns that it raises.
ADAM MOLNAR is a Postdoctoral fellow at the Surveillance Studies Centre at Queen's University. He specializes in security and privacy issues, particularly in the areas of policing, national security, and public safety governance. More particularly, he researches how collaborative governmental initiatives are arranged, and the privacy and security implications that follow.

Green gold is the lush softwood forest that dominates the coastline and blankets the flat interior of British Columbia. For over a century the entire province prospered from the harvest of these forests. Suddenly in the 1980s the industry succumbed to a depression brought on by soaring interest rates and a decline in markets but aggravated by longer-term problems. As the industry "went down", so did the provincial economy which depended on it. In the first part of this work Marchak deals with the nature of a staples economy and its inherent weaknesses. She explores the history of the Briti

Crushing crime in British Columbia
Crushing crime in British Columbia
With the press of a button and the crunch of metal and glass, a former gang vehicle was taken out of commission and off of BC’s roads - delivering on the Province’s commitment to crime reduction and public safety.
The all-clear signal was given today at ABC Recycling, a junkyard in Burnaby, for a car crusher to turn a purple 1997 Ford Explorer into a heap of scrap. The SUV, once involved in gang-related crime, was destroyed in the latest example of the work BC’s Civil Forfeiture Office (CFO) and its public safety partners do to take the instruments of violent crime out of British Columbia’s communities.

Green Gold: The Forestry Industry in British Columbia — Download
Download Here: http://tinyurl.com/pwy2ja5
Green gold is the lush softwood forest that dominates the coastline and blankets the flat interior of British Columbia. For over a century the entire province prospered from the harvest of these forests. Suddenly in the 1980s the industry succumbed to a depression brought on by soaring interest rates and a decline in markets but aggravated by longer-term problems. As the industry "went down", so did the provincial economy which depended on it. In the first part of this work Marchak deals with the nature of a staples economy and its inherent weaknesses. She explores the history of the British Columbia forestry industry, government legislation, and reaction to this legislation by companies, unions, the media and community groups. In a detailed study of workers in resource towns she finds that this labour force cannot be described in terms of "human capital" theories. The relationship between employment and markets and industrial technology is examined along with the situation of women in single-industry towns. Two resource communities are compared: one, a new "instant" town; the other, an old logging town - both sensitive to market changes and locked into the export of a single staple. While this book is not an expose of government or company policies, it builds up a case that together capital and the provincial state created a vulnerable hinterland economy on the base of a rich but limited resource. In summarizing the data and theory contained in the book, Marchak considers what alternatives exist for regions such as British Columbia within the North American capitalist economy. Based on data obtained from governmental and non-government documents and reports and on interviews with industry officials and workers, "Green gold" makes a contribution to our knowledge of single-industry towns, the sociology of work, and the sociology of women in Canada. It offers material on the forestry industry of British Columbia which can be adapted to similar regions and other resource-based industries.

Sounding off on Alberta budget, British Columbia Tourism and Harper 24/7 on YouTube
With Alberta's budget aimed at raising taxes on ordinary working people, remember no increase for corporations because they are already facing challenges - Albertan's shouldn't forget ALison Redford .
Here in BC the Liberals brought us the Olympics in 2010 with promises the world is coming to experience BC. Right? How did that go over? Now the government is allocating $51 million of taxpayers funds to promote BC tourism?
What's the deal with that? $2.6 million for one video campaign. Money not well allocated in my opinion.
And Dear Leader Harper with his crew making 24/7 videos at a cost of 'who know's.'
As many as four public servants from the Privy Council Office are engaged in the publishing of weekly video clips that celebrate Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s accomplishments.
The Prime Minister’s Office can’t say how much it costs to produce the promotional “24 Seven” videos every week. Viewership numbers for the videos are small.

If you want to save time and money, the most important Vancouver travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. Vancouver Travel Video Guide
Vancouver Travel Video Guide

Biggest Tourist Destinations on Earth- Gulf Islands, British Columbia, Canada

Canada's War on Weed
With a reported value of over six billion dollars, it's no secret that marijuana in British Columbia is big business. However, due to the recent legalization of weed in Washington and Colorado, the draconian crime laws pushed forward by the Canadian Conservative government's omnibus crime bill, and recent changes to medical marijuana regulations, the entire industry is suddenly facing an identity crisis. VICE Canada went west to talk to the people directly affected by these recent events: from the legalization activists and the large and small scale growers, to the illegal traffickers and law enforcement, we talked to the people on the front lines of the battle for control over one of Canada's most undervalued resource.

BC PNP Info Session: Express Entry BC
The BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) has introduced a new immigration stream called Express Entry British Columbia that will operate in conjunction with the federal government’s Express Entry system.
Under this new BC PNP stream, applicants who are eligible for one of the Express Entry BC categories will receive priority processing of both their BC PNP application, and if nominated, permanent residence application.
Express Entry BC creates a new priority stream for skilled workers under the BC PNP that responds to B.C.’s economic and labour market needs and priorities. This interactive session is geared to employers, will provide an overview of the requirements of this new stream and have a robust Q&A; session.

Archive: Cannabis Common Sense 49 - Marc Emery Interview in British Columbia
In 1998, Cannabis Common Sense went on-location to British Columbia to interview cannabis activist Marc Emery "The Prince of Pot" for the series.
Emery was essential to the fall of cannabis prohibition in the United States by spearheading an "Overgrow the Government" campaign in the effort to get cannabis seeds to US residents. He then donated proceeds into initiatives in the U.S. to end cannabis prohibition.
After serving a five year sentence in the U.S. for selling seeds, Emery was released in 2014.

Archive: Cannabis Common Sense 51 - Marc Emery Interview in British Columbia
In 1998, Cannabis Common Sense went on-location to British Columbia to interview cannabis activist Marc Emery "The Prince of Pot" for the series.
Emery was essential to the fall of cannabis prohibition in the United States by spearheading an "Overgrow the Government" campaign in the effort to get cannabis seeds to US residents. He then donated proceeds into initiatives in the U.S. to end cannabis prohibition.
After serving a five year sentence in the U.S. for selling seeds, Emery was released in 2014.

She says she's going back home. Hasn't seen her friends in a while. Plus British Columbia's real nice this time of year. And when she gets there she says that she'll phone. May take a day or so. It always takes longer than you think it will to settle in. And she says: So if I leave on that plane, remember me by our good days. And you don't have to but I'm going to wait. There's something wrong with the dog. She can't stop eating on herself. And the scabs that are under her fur, mean that I've been away too long. And I should really give her away to a good heart, in a better place. I'm going to miss you when you go. You'll do better than this home. Someone to take you on walks, show you off. Before it's too late. At best you'll be blind and gray. A warm climate for your last days. Should have never let her go, but you were always better alone.
