NO WORD on western localization though.

Arghh, it's related but it's not an actual sequel

This is great news. I would have thought this would be something they would announce at PSX but I guess PSX is here early.
sonarus  +   1d 3h ago
Valkyria chronicles was a surprisingly good game at least in my opinion. Hopefully this is good too
kitsune451  +   1d 2h ago
Valkyria Chronicles was my first PS3 game, and still to this day my favorite. That's saying a lot.
knifefight  +   1d 1h ago
Why are you posting while driving? That's incredibly dangerous.

This is an action-RPG in which you control the main character and AI controls the others. Set in the Valkyria universe.
APexGamer45  +   22h ago
Oh wow. This is huge.

I would have imagined this would have been PSX announcement.

Past couple weeks of new games announcement is insane enough for PSX.
RustedMan  +   22h ago
sure..."Driving"....
Iceman X  +   22h ago
It's not the sequel, this is part 4. Valkyria Chronicles was PS3, Valkyria Chronicles 2 was PSP, Valkyria Chronicles 3 was PSP and this is part 4 PS4. And they're remastering Valkyria Chronicles for PS4.

Wait, whaaat? Whoa. I didn't hear about this. LOVE Valkyria Chronicles. This is freaking AWESOME! Just as a side question, but what does Winter 2016 in Japan mean? Does that mean January-March 2016, or November-December 2016?
seppo91  +   1d 4h ago
Of course it means november-december?
Visual Dragon  +   23h ago
same as here there winters are during march
Aceman18  +   1d 5h ago
Oh yea I'm a happy gamer now because VC was my favorite game from the last generation. I hope this releases in the west.
XanderZane  +   1d 4h ago
Meh. This is Japan only. When is it coming out in the West? The last time SEGA made a Valkyria game Valkyria Chronicles 3, it never made it out of Japan. I own the first 2 games on the PS3 and PSP. I was hoping they brought the complete trilogy to the states.

Kyosuke_Sanada  +   1d 9h ago
So is this a hack and slash?
jon_snow  +   1d 9h ago
Nope, it's turn based strategy game with permanent death and it's awesome.
Kyosuke_Sanada  +   1d 9h ago
Ahh cool, I was slightly worried they would veer too off course from the original. Thanks for the info.

Permadeath scares me lol
jon_snow  +   1d 7h ago
@fatdrink Well you can always loud save and try to beat without losing any of team member. Permadeath of team member adds another dimension to the game which you don't find in many modern game, It will make you think as if you gun blazing with your strongest guy you build overtime, he will die and all your progress with him is gone.
ShadowWolf712  +   1d 4h ago
Not to mention each character is unique, you learn more of their backstory the more you use them, and you can catch some feelings if you lose them
shadowknight203  +   1d 3h ago
Permadeath! Oh boy Now I really want this to come westside.
kalkano  +   1d 5h ago
I think the original responses are talking about the original game. The new game is action, unfortunately. I'm steering WAAAAAYY clear of that crap.
MoveTheGlow  +   11h ago
I loved the original Valkyria Chronicles, and I had the same impression with these screenshots. It's possible that they're taking a bigger action focus with this game, hence the big differences in the title - no "Chronicles," no "4."

Note the yellow lock-on mechanism while wielding a bladed weapon, the lack of a HUD with statistics. Contrast that with the screenshots of the HD remake right below them. It's probably a very different game than what we're used to with VC.

That's not necessarily bad. This looks beautiful, and that world probably looks a lot cooler when it moves in complete real-time. I'm hyped either way.

Wait wait wait...is this part of the Valkyria Chronicles universe?

In the article, they are remastering Valkyria Chronicles for the PS4? What???

Please bring both games west!
Alternative universe.
Like FF and Mana ;)
madcowzz  +   1d 9h ago
Holy crap. Please release this in the west. VC is one of the few games to deserve a rerelease, as it was incredibly well done and it's art style is amazing. Shame that it's not a trilogy remaster as VC III was never released here :( but the first game is enough for me. Bring it here SEGA!
_Cafe  +   1d 8h ago
Looks good, may have to pick it up since I enjoyed Valkyria Cronicles. I'll admit though I'm on this article because I misread it thinking it was a new Valkyrie Profile :/ ah well, I'll keep dreaming.
SynestheticRoar  +   1d 8h ago
Game with stylize art stunning characters deserve a purchase.
VsAssassin  +   1d 8h ago
Wait, so the new Valkyria: Azure game will be your standard JRPG, while the remastered one will still be an SRPG right?
styferion  +   1d 8h ago
this will still be SRPG, but different settings from the first three games, new country and enemies
Relientk77  +   1d 8h ago
Please bring this to the West. Bring all the JRPGs west
SegaGamer  +   1d 2h ago
Yep, even if it's only 1 that doesn't get localised, i will feel like i am missing out.
Fatdrinkofwater  +   1d 7h ago
Yes please ill take this and a valkyrie chronicles remaster thank you come again
ninjahunter  +   1d 6h ago
On one hand im very happy that there will be another game in the Valkyria series, but im kinda sad it doesn't appear to be coming to PC. The first game when ported to PC dramatically exceeded Segas expectations and was the number one selling game on steam for quite the impressive time period.
RedDevils  +   20h ago
It's will come to PC, when everyone got bored and platinum it lol

A localisation announcement needs to come first. Then a PC announcement will follow as PC versions are essentially a western thing.

No contest lol
_-EDMIX-_  +   1d 3h ago
I mean just like the previous PS systems before it, its continuing the tradition. I would say play the first one on PS3, but its coming to PS4 remastered.

Its also on PC if you can't wait as I assume the PS4 version is the PC version, I didn't read to much on the PS4 remaster so who knows.

Valkyria Chronicles is a personal PS3 fav. I Played through twice. The second time being a new game+ squash match. Would play through a third time in a heartbeat if it got that trophy patch that is never coming.....Great news though! Hope this comes westward.
LoveSpuds  +   1d 3h ago
Yeah, I bought it day one having loved the demo and over the years played through it a few times. Like you would love to have seen trophy support to give me a reason to play it again.

Its funny but it never got any buzz back at launch and seemed to gain recognition and popularity as time went on.

The original VC was my favorite game last gen. Between the gameplay, the characters, and the art style, I fell in love fast. Was very happy to see the Steam version was well-received as well.

Needless to say this has me thrilled.

There are two reasons to be excited about this game....
DivineAssault  +   1d 1h ago
This has to be localized.. If not, ill have to import it..
NewZealander  +   1d 1h ago
That's the problem with ps4 right now, too many of its exclusives are predictable Japanese games, not buying in until UC4 and even that's barely tempting me, Sony is winning in console sales but failing at bringing quality exclusives (don't care if ppl disagree because it's just my opinion)
DarXyde  +   1d 1h ago
Valkyria Chronicles was arguably one of the best games on PS3 and PSP. Subjective of course, but I did say arguably.

I absolutely disagree with you, and I'm sure you should expect people to disagree with your take; after all, you're commenting on an article where avid fans are very pleased by this news. Let's not mince words here, JRPGs are a given on PlayStation. It's what many PlayStation gamers love. It's a genre PlayStation is well known for.

And for the record, if you think Valkyria Chronicles is a "predictable Japanese game", I'd say you're a liar. There's nothing predictable about it; the first was a PS3 exclusive, didn't meet sales goals and a sequel made its way to PSP and a third game that didn't even make it to the west. Then the characters from the game that never made it west had cameo appearances in Project X Zone and few familiars in Dengeki Bunko. With Vita not doing stellar, it is not unreasonable to believe it wasn't coming to handheld and given the last console outing underperforming in sales, we had no reason to expect another. But here it is. As a console game, I have very little doubt it's coming west. Regardless, VC is a huge deal to many of us. Coming in and raining on great news is pretty much a cancerous industry trend that needs to stop.

It's a new game for PS4 and has a remaster that will more than likely sport trophy support. Take it for what it is: more games. More QUALITY games, which I have no concerns about. Just because it's Japanese does not lend to the idea that it will not be great. Xbox has an abundance of American games on an American platform. If you take issue with a Japanese platform having Japanese games, I suggest your backburner your PS4 in favor of the Xbox One or PC.
_-EDMIX-_  +   23h ago
Sony? Sony isn't making this game, Sega is. You can question what you think "quality" is, but PS has outsold MS every single gen and has sold more consoles then MS and Nintendo COMBINED. I'm sorry but they are doing fine, JRPGs like this is why world wide the PS console dominates.

It has a bit of everything, not sure how many Uncharted titles you need bud. How many MORE people will buy a PS4 with more Uncharted like games? Wouldn't those who bought it for Uncharted already actually have the platform to play said games?

Consider it might be why Halo 5 sold the least consoles in its series history. It might be due to MOST who own it, already being fans of it.

Thus...how would more of a certain genre or even quality type yield more gamers when they are already buying the platform for games like that? That is like saying MORE JRPGS will sell even MORE consoles. The reality is, those that want most JRPGS will buy the platform for them, the more that come will merely mean more JRPGs come, I don't think it will sell BETTER due to EVEN MORE coming after the fact.

As if someone exist that wants a certain number of JRPGs, regardless of how many are already on the platform exclusively. Consider the same apples to titles like Uncharted. Your again talking about a company that has sold the most consoles in gaming history.
DivineAssault  +   22h ago
Your right.. Sony is coasting on its success right now.. But they can because its most peoples system of choice.. They can ride the wave while they build the awesome games coming next year.. Its runs multiplats the best so sony is using the needed time to put TLC into whats to come.. Bloodborne alone is reason enough for me to have it as far as exclusives go.. Infamous was awesome too.. Alll the 3rd party AAA games will keep me happy until 2016.. If you dont like japanese games, stick with the xbox.. Its perfectly tailored to the dude/bro audience and gets multiplats for when they need a break from Halo.
Another ps4 exclusive.... quality series too.
