Learn how capitalism arose from the industrial revolution, and then gave rise to socialism. Stops along the way include the rise of industrial capitalism, mass production, disgruntled workers, Karl Marx, and the Socialist Beard. The socialist reactions to the ills of capitalism are covered as well, and John discusses some of the ideas of Karl Marx, and how they've been implemented or ignored in various socialist states. This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In the wake of the financial meltdown and the euro crisis, a new interest in understanding capitalism has surged. So what is this system? It has the power to transform rural societies into bustling urban metropoles in only a decade, foster innovation and new technologies - but one thing the system lacks is a plan. And as we face not only economic crisis, but a much bigger climate crisis, a plan is exactly what is needed.
Kajsa Ekis Ekman was born in Stockholm 1980. She is a journalist and author of two books, "Being and being bought" about trafficking in women, and "Stolen Spring" about the eurocrisis and its consequences for Greece. Her books have been translated into several languages and she lectures around the world about crisis theory, women's rights and Latin American politics. She is a critic at Sweden's major daily Dagens Nyheter and an op-ed writer for the newspaper ETC. She is the founder of the climate action movement Klimax and the solidarity network NFG.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Three years after the near collapse of global financial markets, America is still struggling with unemployment, debt, and foreclosure, European governments are teetering on the brink of bankruptcy—and the world's billionaires are getting richer faster than ever before. The current situation is not sustainable. But what changes need to be made to overcome this mounting crisis of our world economic system? How radical an adaptation will be required? David Harvey, the brilliant theorist and scathing critic of postmodern society, looks at what the future holds for global capitalism.

"Intellectuals have always disdained commerce" says Whole Foods Market co-founder John Mackey. They "have always sided...with the aristocrats to maintain a society where the businesspeople were kind of kept down."
More than any other outlet, Whole Foods has reconfigured what and how America eats and the chain's commitment to high-quality meats, produce, cheeses, and wines is legendary. Since opening his first store in Austin, Texas in 1980, Mackey now oversees operations around the globe and continues to set the pace for what's expected in organic and sustainably raised and harvested food.
Because of Whole Foods' trendy customer base and because Mackey is himself a vegan and champions collaboration between management and workers, it's easy to mistake Mackey for a progressive left-winger. Indeed, an early version of Jonah Goldberg's best-selling 2008 book Liberal Fascism even bore the subtitle "The Totalitarian Temptation from Mussolini to Hillary Clinton and The Totalitarian Temptation from Hegel to Whole Foods."
Yet nothing could be further from the truth—and more distorting of the radical vision of capitalism at the heart of Mackey's thought. A high-profile critic of the minimum wage, Obamacare, and the regulatory state, Mackey believes that free markets are the best way not only to raise living standards but also to explore new ways of building community and creating meaning for individuals and society. At the same time, he challenges all sorts of libertarian dogma, including the notion that publicly traded companies should always seek to exclusively maximize shareholder value. Conscious Capitalism, the book he co-authored with Rajendra Sisodia, lays out a detailed case for Mackey's vision of a post-industrial capitalism that addresses spiritual desire as much as physial need.
Reason TV’s Nick Gillespie talked with Mackey earlier this summer at FreedomFest, where among other things, Mackey debated billionaire Peter Thiel on the role of monopoly and competition in business.
Runs about 16 minutes.
Produced by Todd Krainin. Cameras by Zach Weissmueller and Paul Detrick.

Liberty Classics — Theory of Socialism and Capitalism
You know the mainstream view of politics. Socialism is on the left. Fascism is on the right. In A Theory of Socialism and Capitalism, Hoppe wants to blow up this entire system of thinking. He wants to replace it with a continuum that has nothing to do with the conventional left-right distinction. The only relevant concern for politics is how much control the state itself exerts over society. Join

Bill Gates Has Always Been Wrong About Capitalism
While I agree with Stefan Molyneux that Bill is wrong about Capitalism, the thing to know is that Bill has always been wrong about capitalism. Money has been used as a medium of exchange since ancient times. It affects not only economics, but also history, politics, and culture. This second CCA of the 2015-2016 academic year, co-sponsored by the Ludwig von Mises Lecture Series, will examine the history of money, as well as money-related controversies.

I also discuss the advatages and disadvantages of capitalism. Do you agree? Leave a comment. Oh, and don't forget to watch the bonus rant at the end.

Does building a truly just, democratic and sustainable economy mean creating an entirely new system beyond capitalism—or can we reform capitalism to operate according to those values?
This as an important strategic question that new-economy advocates must come to terms with as we attempt to build public understanding of and support for a just and sustainable new system. Indeed, as the first Democratic presidential debate of the season highlighted, “capitalism” can be a politically charged and confusing term. Thus, as with all controversial terms, how we use the “c-word” matters.
Yet, as one might expect from a diverse and growing movement, new-economy advocates have widely differing views on the term. Thus, for example, while Gar Alperovitz may write of an America Beyond Capitalism, we see his friend and colleague John Fullerton promoting a Regenerative Capitalism that nonetheless resonates with Alperovitz's vision in its particulars. Some feel the need to qualify our current system as "corporate" capitalism, while others are happy to call it capitalism, plain and simple. Yet in each case the choice of terminology is a deliberate one, indicating that the differences are not merely semantic, but reflect deeper political and cultural realities that no advocate should ignore.
This New Economy Week panel will serve as a live installment of Keith Harrington's " Checkerboard Revolution" series of articles for YES! Magazine, which explores big picture strategic issues confronting the emerging new-economy movement. To shed light on this often murky issue, an expert panel will discuss varying views of capitalism from the perspective of theory and practice. The discussion will not necessarily aim to build consensus around a particular definition of capitalism, but will attempt to help participants develop a more strategic understanding of the concepts, beliefs and values we evoke when we use the c-word.
This online panel is sponsored by the New Economy Coalition and YES! Magazine and is a featured event of New Economy Week 2015: From Austerity to Prosperity. Learn more at www.neweconomyweek.org

Join Jeffrey Tucker for a discussion of this earthshaking book on Sunday night!

Cronyism is a Collectivist ideology that the left love to try and pass the blame off on Capitalism, in this video I go into depth debunking SocialDemocrat01 on the argument on both Libertarian Socialist Rants and Jason Unruhe as well as reiterating the difference between Capitalism and Cronyism on regulations. I also address the issue about monopolies with a bit of the American history showing who supported the Cronyist system.
Capitalism is NOT Corporatism, it is not the early stages of Corporatism nor is Corporatism a form of Capitalism. Capitalism itself is an Individualist ideology and as I address in this video you cannot take Capitalism outside of Individualism and place it under Collectivism which is near enough another word for Socialism.

CHAOS IN LONDON UK - Protests & Clashes Over Corruption, Injustice & Capitalism (Million Mask March)
Protesters wearing Guy Fawkes masks to mark their support of the Anonymous hactivist movement are staging protests all around the world on Tuesday. The self-styled legion of activists is opposing corporate and government corruption. A Scotland Yard commander has described how police officers came under attack as the Million Mask march in central London descended into a “completely unacceptable” night of violence.
Cdr Ben-Julian Harrington, the officer in charge of policing protests in London, vowed to bring to justice the dozens of activists arrested for offences, including two for assaulting police officers.
He said: “Officers have been hospitalised, a police horse suffered injuries and a police car was criminally damaged during the course of the protest, which is completely unacceptable.
“I praise the professionalism and restraint that officers have shown in the face of hostile provocation and enabled the policing operation to pass without major incidents. We will bring those responsible for the criminality to face justice.”
Fifty people arrested after three police officers hospitalised during anti-capitalist march in central London that also saw photographer hit by supercar aston martin Three police officers are being treated in hospital after being injured during an anti-capitalist march in central London that saw protesters hurl fireworks and set a patrol car on fire.
Scotland Yard said at least 50 arrests were made, mainly for public order offences with two for assaulting a police officer, on Thursday night.
A police horse, called PH Embassy, was also injured when a firework was thrown at him during the protest. london uk "united kingdom" british justice march chaos rule journalism photography law "law and order" "london uk" banking bank "bank account" demo footage order bankers capitalism crazy 2015 2016 people "we the people" future life lifestyle millionaire billionaire rich wealth wealthy poverty charity cash money jobs employment battle games fireworks "5th november" "elite nwo agenda" david icke alex jones infowars trends in the news gerald celente anonymous bilderberg illuminati lindsey williams prepare survival stock market collapse blackout end game new world order big brother rothschild rothchilds george soros evil
Police tweeted photographs of the animal on Friday morning as they revealed the rider was taken to hospital with a broken wrist. Some managed to break free from the main route, heading instead to Buckingham Palace and Green Park, where protesters threw missiles such as cones and fireworks at police horses. One animal bolted as an explosive whizzed past its head. To an extent unknown since before the first world war, economic relations in this country are becoming set in stone. It is not just that the very rich no longer fall while the very poor no longer rise. It’s that the system itself is protected from risk. Through bailouts, quantitative easing and delays in interest-rate rises, speculative investment has been so well cushioned that – as the Guardian economics editor, Larry Elliott, puts it – financial markets are “one of the last bastions of socialism left on Earth”.

Thousands of people wearing symbolic Anonymous masks take to the streets in different European and American cities to protest against capitalism and government corruption.
The movement is organized by Million Masks March group that asked its supporters to gather at state capitals and city Halls. The marchers say they are against inequality, governments’ spying on people, police brutality and lies of the officials. In many locations protests have turned violent. In Washington people blocked traffic along the Constitution Avenue, marching to the White House and to the US Capitol.

At the famous Oxford Union, Mehdi Hasan challenges former top financial regulator Lord Adair Turner on the role of the banks, the politics behind austerity and whether capitalism has failed.
It seems that mistakes made in Wall Street and the City of London are paid for by people around the world, but can we govern greed within the realm of capitalism or is it all just money down the drain? Is austerity really needed? Can we trust the banks?
Joining our discussion are: Jon Moulton, a venture capitalist and the founder of the private equity firm Better Capital. He has nurtured a reputation for forthrightness even to point of challenging his private equity peers for abusing tax regimes. He is also one of the few men in the City of London who warned about the impending crash before it happened; Professor Costas Lapavitsas, who teaches economics at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London and is the author of several notable books on the crash and its consequences including Crisis in the Eurozone and Financialisation in Crisis; and Ann Pettifor, the director of PRIME (Policy Research in Macroeconomics), and a fellow of the New Economics Foundation. She was one of the first to warn about the debt crisis in her book The Coming First World Debt Crisis, and is also well-known for her leadership of the successful worldwide campaign to cancel developing world debt - Jubilee 2000.
