TCN-9 - early footage (1956-57)
From the 10th anniversary special in 1966, here's a look at some of the earliest TCN-9 footage - test cards, the notorious fake "opening", a sneaky edit of "The Johnny O'Connor Show" (see below), "Campfire Favourites", "What's My Line", and "Australia's Amateur Hour", with a snippet of Bobby Limb on the first anniversary show in September 1957. Narration is by Bruce Gyngell. The Johnny O'Connor footage is actually silent, a later recording of O'Connor was dubbed onto it - you can tell, the later recording was sung differently, and the lip movements often don't sync with it! The footage was used in Peter Faiman's "Television: The First 30 Years" in 1986, with Gyngell's 1966 voice-over edited to make it appear to have been part of the 1956 intro...
