Description:
Death is a common denominator amongst all living creatures on this planet. We, as a society, seem to have an obsession with death and how we will end our lives. From illness, to suicide, to unexpected death, our last moments have more of a weighted meaning than the moments from the prime of our lives. This is likely why our society has such an obsession with the last words spoken before death. The death penalty has been a focal point of controversy for the last several decades, but it’s been a practice that’s been in existence for hundreds of years as being put to death was a customary punishment for even the simplest offences.
Now, if you’re an inmate on death row, the date and time of the end of your life has already been determined. It can be either relaxing or unsettling to know when your death will be, but it can also provide an ample opportunity to prepare the perfect set of last words. If you knew you were going to die, what would be your last words? This video provides ten of the most shocking last words by inmates who were on death row. From quirky, to confusing, to profound, these inmates really shook the core of those around them enough to where people are still talking about their last words today.
For example, Robert Towery was put to death in 2012 by lethal injection and said, “I love my family. Potato, potato, potato.” This is quite a confusing set of last words. The first sentence makes sense, but them the “potato” part not so much. Was his family named potato? Did he want to eat a potato? Regardless of the reason, it made numerous people raise an eyebrow to the statement. Perhaps weird last words such as this could even mean something to a long lost friend or relative out there, or the inmate just wanted to have one last hurrah, even if it was psychologically.
Then we have death row inmates who can be humorous and sassy on their last day. For example, George Appel was sentenced to death after killing an NYPD officer. As he prepared to get into the electric chair, he said, “Well, gentlemen, you are about to see a baked Appel.” But he wasn’t the only one to make a joke out of his name. James D. French was initially sentenced to life in prison. Not wanting to commit suicide, he killed his cell mate so that he could be executed. His last words before being electrocuted were, “Here’s this for a headline? ‘French Fries’.”
Finally, the impact of last words could quite have the potential to change the world or force people to rethink their morals and standards. Robert Drew was executed in 1994 and said, “Remember, the death penalty is murder.” For a murderer to say that, it seems as though he is leveling the playing field with the judicial system.
As we continue to live our lives, perhaps the concept of last words should be more of a forethought instead of an afterthought. Most of us will luckily never have the “luxury” that death row inmates have in knowing the time and date of our death.

In Henan Province, in central China, millions of people have been tuning in every week to watch an extraordinary talk show called Interviews Before Execution, in which a er interviews murderers condemned to death. The show ran for just over five years, until it was taken off air on Friday.
Every Monday morning, er Ding Yu and her team scoured court s to find cases to cover on their programme. They had to move quickly, as prisoners in China can be executed seven days after they are sentenced.
To Western eyes the show's format may seem exploitative, but Ding disagrees.
"Some viewers may consider it cruel to ask a criminal to do an interview when they are about to be executed.
"On the contrary, they want to be heard," she says.
"Some criminals I interviewed told me: 'I'm really very glad. I said so many things in my heart to you at this time. In prison, there was never a person I was willing to talk to about past events.'"
I witness the transition from life to death
Ding Yu
Interviews Before Execution was first broadcast on 18 November 2006 on Henan Legal Channel, one of 3,000 state-owned TV stations in China. Ding interviewed a prisoner every week until the programme was taken off air.
The move follows a handful of s about the show in foreign media, which were triggered by a documentary to be screened on the BBC tonight and on PBS International in the near future.
The aim of Interviews Before Execution, the programme-makers say, was to find cases that would serve as a warning to others. The slogan at the top of every programme called for human nature to awaken and "perceive the value of life".
In China, 55 crimes carry the death penalty, from murder, treason and armed rebellion to bribery and smuggling. Thirteen other crimes, including VAT fraud, smuggling relics and credit fraud, were only recently removed from the list of capital offences.
Interviews Before Execution, however, focused exclusively on cases of violent murder.
Bullet or injection
There are thought to be more executions than in any other country, although the exact number is a state secret
There is no presumption of innocence in Chinese law and confessions are sometimes taken before the suspect has had access to a lawyer
Convicted prisoners are killed by a single shot to the back of the head or by lethal injection inside a mobile execution truck
It never interviewed political prisoners or cases where the crime was in question, and the team received the Henan high court's consent in every case.
"Without their consent, our programme would end immediately," Ding told the BBC documentary team.
Broadcast every Saturday night, the programme was frequently rated one of Henan's top 10 shows, with nearly 40 million viewers out of the 100 million who live in the province.
It made Ding Yu a star, known to many as "Beauty with the Beasts".
If people failed to heed the warnings the programme offered, she says, then it was right that they should face the consequences.
"I feel sorry and regretful for them. But I don't sympathise with them, for they should pay a heavy price for their wrongdoing. They deserve it."
Many of the cases featured in the programme were motivated by money and one case in particular stands out for Ding.
The perpetrators were boyfriend and girlfriend - young, educated college graduates.
Bao Ronting
Bao Ronting was the first openly gay man Ding Yu ever met
The couple planned to rob her grandparents but it went wrong and the young man, 27-year-old Zhang Peng, ended up killing them both.
"They are so young. They never had the chance to see this world, or to enjoy life, a career, work, and the love of family.
"They've made the wrong choice, and the price is their lives," Ding says.
But after more than 200 interviews, little surprises her.
"I've interviewed criminals even younger than that young student, some just 18 years old. That is the minimum age you can be sentenced to death."
Homosexuality is still a huge taboo in China, and when in 2008 the show covered the case of Bao Ronting, a gay man who murdered his mother, ratings soared.
It was the first time Ding had ever met an openly gay man.
"I had never come close to a gay man, so I really couldn't accept some of his practices, words and deeds.
"Though he was a man, he asked me in a very feminine tone, 'Do you feel awkward speaking to me?' Actually I felt very awkward," she recalls.

Welcome to Top10Archvie! After serving so many years dining on prison food, this list of nefarious inmates were given the chance to enjoy something truly divine, should they wish it. Of course, it would be the last thing they ever ate, so the request should be a good one. For this group of death row inmates that make up this mouth watering instalment, their last meal was about enjoying an abundance of the more delicious things in life before making that final walk to their inevitable demise.

Description:
When prisoners commit a heinous crime of murder, especially when multiple lives are lost, the ultimate choice is to choose to end the criminal’s life. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.
The practice of giving a last meal to a death row inmate dates back several centuries, starting in Europe. The belief was that if the inmate accepted their last meal, it meant that they made peace with their host and would not return as a ghost after death. The tradition has continued strongly, and the practice is still in the United States prison system. The inmate can request whatever they want for their last meal, within reason. It is that inmate’s last opportunity to gorge on their favorite foods, reminisce about their life, and hopefully make peace within themselves over their impending doom.
Today, there are a few prisons that have now ended their “last meal” tradition due to the inmates making large requests and then never eating the meal, much to the dismay of the prison staff. There have been many people who have protested the concept of the last meal, calling it a waste of taxpayer dollars. But the tradition still goes on all over the world. It is interesting to see what these hardened criminals choose as their last moment of food consumption that they will ever have in their lives. What it must be like for these people to eat what they know as their last meal is the subject of books and movies. We can never directly relate to the experience except for what we can watch from a distance.
You can a lot about a prisoner’s personality based on what they chose as their last meal. Some want to gorge on all of their favorite foods, while others want to recreate a favorite meal from their past like their wedding dinner or a home-cooked meal from their mother. But then there are other inmates who will be snarky and request things like “world peace” or a lump of dirt like James Edward Smith did (that request wasn’t obliged and he was given yogurt instead). And there are also inmates who will exercise their sweet tooth with ice cream, cakes, candy, and other variations of sweets. Or, you will have the inmates who will not even request a last meal and will sit in prayer and meditation as their execution comes closer with each tick of the clock.
One of the most infamous murderers, John Wayne Gacy, who had raped and killed 33 boys and young men, had a meal that was clearly reminiscent of his life. He managed three KFC restaurants in his life, and requested a bucket of original recipe KFC chicken, 12 pieces of fried shrimp, French fries, and a pound of strawberries. The meal was both indulgent and enjoyable it seems before he died the next day.
So what exactly have inmates requested for their last meals? Check out the video to find out. Some may make you laugh, make you confused, or just simply apathetic. As you watch, consider what meal you would want on your last evening alive.

This is a list of women on death row in the United States. The number of death row inmates fluctuates daily with new convictions, appellate decisions, sentence commutations, deaths (through execution or otherwise), and exonerations. Due to this fluctuation as well as lag and inconsistencies in inmate reporting procedures across jurisdictions, the information in this article may be out of date. The time on death row counter starts on the day they were first placed on death row. It does not count time incarcerated prior to sentencing nor does it discount time spent in prison off of death row in cases where death sentences were overturned before being reinstated.
Lisa M. Montgomery was convicted of the 2004 murder of Bobbie Jo Stinnett. Montgomery killed the pregnant Stinnett before delivering and kidnapping Stinnett's unborn baby.
Noted neuroscientist VS Ramachandran testified that Montgomery suffered from severe pseudocyesis delusion. Ramachandran testified that childhood sexual abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder predisposed her to pseudocyesis, a mental condition that causes a woman to falsely believe she is pregnant and exhibit outward signs of pregnancy. Ramachandran stated that Montgomery was suffering from a severe mental disease or defect when she committed the crime and that she was unable to appreciate the nature and quality of her acts. Federal prosecutor Roseann Ketchmark characterized Ramachandran's theory linking the murder/kidnapping to pseudocyesis as "voodoo science."
Blackmon was convicted in the death of her two-year-old adopted daughter, Dominiqua Bryant. According to an autopsy report, the child suffered a fractured skull, several broken bones, and bruises which included a shoe print on her chest.

Ana Maria Cardona
Cardona was convicted of murdering her three-year-old child Lazaro Figueroa. Figueroa was found to have been substantially abused and neglected over a long period of time before being killed with a baseball bat. Figueroa's body was found dumped behind the hedge of a Miami Beach home. He went unidentified for some time and became known in the media as "baby lollipops" due to the graphic on a T-shirt he was wearing.
The defense alleged that Cardona's partner, Olivia Gonzalez, was responsible. They appealed the conviction on the basis that the prosecution failed to disclose a number of inconsistent statements made by Gonzalez, who testified against Cardona at the trial. At trial, the defense was also precluded from questioning witnesses about an incident in which Gonzalez confessed to the crime. Gonzalez was judged to be deceptive on a number of questions during a polygraph, including questions regarding whether or not she struck him with a baseball bat in the two weeks prior to his death. When confronted with this information, she admitted hitting him with a bat on that day and stated that he could have died from the blow. The jury was not aware of this confession

http://www.vladtv.com - After calling the N.W.A. biopic "Straight Outta Compton" just "a good movie," Charlamagne gets into a heated discussion with DJ Vlad about the influence Eazy-E, Dr. Dre and Suge Knight had and continue to have on the hip-hop culture. "Eazy-E and Suge Knight, both of them single-handedly controlled a genre of music," he explains. "Dr. Dre does things that change culture."
The conversation takes a more serious turn when Charlamagne says "Death Row [Records] was better than the N.W.A. movement." "Death Row was the evolution of the N.W.A. movement," he continues on, disregarding DJ Vlad's dissent.
Charlamagne also speaks on the speculation surrounding Eazy-E's death and why he doesn't take the rumors too seriously. "Listen man, I believe half of what I hear and none of what I see," he tells us.
Watch on as he speaks about diseases, "bug chasers" and more above.
