This weekend I was leant the Tesla Model S electric car to test drive.
Travelling from Henley-on-Thames to Suffolk, I'm driving the Tesla Model S 90D all-wheel drive version that has a range of around 300 miles per charge.
During the drive, I test the amazing autopilot feature (self-drive mode) as well as auto park.

Most people would have you think that the most extraordinary thing about the vehicles coming out of Tesla’s factory is that they are electric and fast. This couldn’t be further from the truth.
Tesla wins when the world chooses electric cars. Buy one of their cars, or a competitor’s, they win. The biggest hurdle isn’t convincing the world they are the best, nor achieving the manufacturing cost-reduction challenges necessary to appeal to the mass market. The driver for Tesla’s success is the mass adoption of Electric Vehicles — when the excuses are made by laggards, not the masses.
Whilst many journalists in the motoring and technology communities tend to compare the Model S to the nearest cars relative to price, performance or features, I believe this is a toothless cop-out.

The Tesla Supercharger network is designed to give owners a free charging option while they’re on their way from one place to another. And with a full charge on board, the Model S is capable of more than 500km of electric driving.
Our goal was to travel from Sydney to Melbourne in a day – the first time it had been possible to do so using a public electric car recharging infrastructure.
The route from Sydney to Melbourne has long been a yard stick for the ability of cars in Australia, and now with Tesla’s Supercharger network – which includes rapid recharge facilities in Goulburn and Wodonga – it is possible to do so, for free, electrically.
Supercharger stations are located in places that you might not usually stop to recharge your own batteries means the company is helping push the local business angle. And once we reached Goulburn, we could see that the locals – including the mayor – were excited to see the company’s presence in the city centre, rather than out at the bypass service centre.
A full recharge takes about an hour to complete, and that meant time for lunch.

The Tesla Factory is an automobile manufacturing plant in Fremont, California, US, owned and operated by Tesla Motors. The facility was formerly known as New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI), a joint venture between General Motors and Toyota. The plant is located in the East Industrial area of Fremont between Interstates 880 and 680.
Tesla Motors had planned for an assembly factory in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as a central location for shipping. Construction was supposed to begin in April 2007, but was canceled.
A separate greenfield factory to be built in San Jose, California was also announced. However, the cost was prohibitive, and the company looked for alternatives.
NUMMI was established in 1984 by General Motors and Toyota at the site of the defunct Fremont Assembly site. It was a joint venture created to manufacture vehicles which would be sold under both brands. GM pulled out of the venture in June 2009, and several months later Toyota announced plans to pull out by March 2010.

Tesla wins when the world chooses electric cars. Buy one of their cars, or a competitor’s, they win. The biggest hurdle isn’t convincing the world they are the best, nor achieving the manufacturing cost-reduction challenges necessary to appeal to the mass market. Egyptian aviation investigators confirmed a black box recording from EgyptAir flight MS804 from Paris to Cairo that plunged into the Mediterranean on May 19 and killed all 66 people aboard showed smoke onboard, BBC News reported Wednesday.
