Enda Kenny on why he hates Sinn Fein
Hypocrite Enda Kenny hates Sinn Fein. He deplores Republicans for their role in the troubles, a conflict he knows nothing about and tries to distinguish them from the old IRA or the men of 1916 which had no mandate and did the same things as the IRA of the Troubles yet he calls them Heroes. He is against a United Ireland for political reasons. If a United Ireland were to happen, it would mean a Si

BBC4 - Time Shift
Kay Wragg narrates a sequence about the practical problems television news had in covering Northern Ireland stories in light of the government banning anyone speaking on British television and radio in support of Irish terrorism.
Interviews with John Birt, former Director General of the BBC, reporter Denis Murray and actors Ian McElhinney and Stephen Rea, who were regularly used to dub over the voices of Sinn Fein leaders. Broadcasters used actors' voices in place of Sinn Fein leaders, as a way of getting round the ban. Using actors' voices caused broadcasting to take on a controversial and surreal appearance. The ban was the most direct level of government censorship since the second world war and was introduced by Margaret Thatcher's Conservative government in an attempt to cut the 'oxygen of publicity' to Sinn Fein, the political wing of the IRA.

The Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA or PIRA) was an Irish republican paramilitary organisation that sought to remove Northern Ireland from the United Kingdom and bring about an independent republic encompassing all of Ireland. It emerged in December 1969—after the beginning of the Troubles—when the Irish Republican Army split over ideology and how to respond to attacks on Catholics in Northern Ireland. Catholic demands for civil rights had been met with violence from Ulster loyalists and from the government of Northern Ireland, culminating in the August 1969 riots and deployment of British troops.
The Provisional IRA was the biggest and most active republican paramilitary during the Troubles. It saw itself as the only rightful successor to the original IRA and called itself simply the Irish Republican Army (IRA), or Óglaigh na hÉireann in Irish. It was also widely referred to as such by others. The IRA is a proscribed organisation in the UK under the Terrorism Act 2000 and an unlawful organisation in the Republic of Ireland. The United States includes them in the category of "other selected terrorist groups also deemed of relevance in the global war on terrorism."

Sinn Féin (/ʃɪn ˈfeɪn/ shin-FAYN)[2] is an Irish republican political party active in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The name is Irish for "ourselves" or "we ourselves",[3][4] although it is frequently mistranslated as "ourselves alone".[5] Originating in the Sinn Féin organisation founded in 1905 by Arthur Griffith, it took its current form in 1970 after a split within the party (the other party is the Workers' Party of Ireland), and has been associated with the Provisional Irish Republican Army.[6] Gerry Adams has been party president since 1983.
Sinn Féin is currently the second-largest party in the Northern Ireland Assembly, where it has four ministerial posts in the power-sharing Northern Ireland Executive, and the fourth-largest party in the Oireachtas, the parliament of the Republic. Sinn Féin also received a plurality of Northern Ireland votes in the 2010 United Kingdom general election, although the Democratic Unionist Party won more seats.

The Remembrance Day bombing (also known as the Enniskillen bombing or Poppy Day massacre) took place on 8 November 1987 in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. A Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) bomb exploded near the town's war memorial (cenotaph) during a Remembrance Sunday ceremony, which was being held to commemorate British military war dead. Eleven people (ten civilians and a police officer) were killed and 63 were injured. The IRA said it had made a mistake and that its target had been the British soldiers parading to the memorial. The unit who carried out the bombing was disbanded.
The bombing was strongly condemned by all sides and weakened the IRA's and Sinn Féin's support. It also facilitated the passing of the Extradition Act, which made it easier to extradite IRA suspects from the Republic of Ireland to the UK. Loyalist paramilitaries responded to the bombing with 'revenge' attacks on Catholic civilians. The bombing has been described as a turning point in the Troubles and an incident that shook the IRA "to its core".

The Harrods bombing usually refers to the car bomb that exploded outside Harrods department store in central London on Saturday 17 December 1983. Members of the Provisional IRA planted the time bomb and sent a warning 37 minutes before it exploded, but the area was not evacuated. The blast killed three police officers and three civilians, injured 90 people, and caused much damage. The IRA Army Council claimed it had not authorised the attack and expressed regret for the civilian casualties. The IRA had been bombing commercial targets in England since the early 1970s, as part of its "economic war". The goal was to damage the economy and cause disruption, which would put pressure on the British government to withdraw from Northern Ireland.
Harrods was the target of a much smaller IRA bomb almost ten years later, in January 1993, which injured four people.

Feel it from the edge of the earth

In your veins, consumin’ you and makin you mine
Call out, wasted in the sun
Years gone, a slave under a gun
Fight a bleeding heart or find your own

In your veins, consumin’ you and makin you mine
Oh I'll hide my heart in sleeve

Over 2,700 people gathered in central London for the Marxism 2015 festival last weekend. They included striking
workers, students, campaigners and socialists from across the globe.
Up to 900 people attended the opening rally. Amy Leather from the central committee of the Socialist Workers
Party (SWP) said, “The theme of Marxism is ideas for revolution—we need to make those ideas a reality.”
Events in Greece dominated the event (see below).
Several meetings discussed struggle and austerity in Britain.
At a meeting on class Joseph Choonara argued that people feel more precarious than they are and that the working
class can transform society.
A debate on why there are so few strikes in Britain looked at whether there has been a structural change in the
working class. Some argued that focusing only on structural changes could miss underlying shifts in workers’ mood
to fight.
Bfawu union president Ian Hodson spoke in one session, along with striking Glasgow homelessness caseworkers and
two sacked porters from Sotheby’s.
There was a live link-up with a US McDonald’s worker. Members of Glasgow socialist choir—Unite, Fight, Sing—
finished the meeting with a song from the US fast food strikers’ picket lines.
The Glasgow strikers raised around £1,000 for their strike fund over the weekend.
Racism
Fighting racism was a big theme.
Hassan Mahamdallie spoke on the frightening rise in state Islamophobia.
Veteran anti-racist Darcus Howe launched his memoirs at the event. Diane Abbott MP discussed how to take on
racism with Sabby Dhalu and Weyman Bennett from Unite Against Fascism.
It was standing room only in a meeting on how socialists should vote in the European Union referendum.
Some argued for a Yes vote because racists and Ukip are likely to dominate the No campaign.
Others said socialists shouldn’t abandon the No side to the racists—and said some on the Yes side would also use
racism.
A meeting on why Labour lost saw a discussion on how socialists should respond to Jeremy Corbyn’s candidacy for
Labour leader.
Other meetings debated the nature of Zionism, women’s oppression and the Green Party. Many service users
discussed their experiences at a meeting on Marxism and mental health.
Debated
Several meetings debated how Marxist theory applies today. Others linked theory with struggles—such as how the
school system fails children.
Socialists and activists spoke from Turkey, Bahrain, Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, Egypt, Syria and Ukraine.
A meeting on revolution and counter-revolution in Egypt grappled with the crushing of the hopes of 2011. People
called for protests when Egyptian dictator El-Sisi visits Britain.
There were a number of meetings on Palestine, including one on the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS)
campaign.
Some 70 students met for a picnic on Friday afternoon.
Many were at Marxism for the first time, including Iona from Brighton University.
She told Socialist Worker, “I came because I want to get more politically active. There’s no other event like
this—I love it.”
Greece—the big debate
Socialists from Greece spoke about the struggle there and debated the best way to take it forward.
Stathis Kouvelakis from the central committee of Syriza, the left party in government in Greece, debated Alex
Callinicos on Saturday.
This followed Syriza passing an austerity deal through the Greek parliament.
Stathis argued that there had been a “failure of political strategy” in Greece.
Alex stressed that this was not the end of the battle and said the mass mobilisation of workers pointed to the
way forward.
Panos Garganas, editor of the Workers’ Solidarity newspaper in Greece, spoke from the floor.
He said, “The game is not over. But we have discovered the referee is against us.”
He said Syriza had made the mistake of thinking it could make the bosses see reason.
“We’ve used the ballot box,” he said.
“Now we have to use workers’ power in the workplace.”

If a United Ireland were to happen, it would mean a Sinn Fein government and thus not favour his political party. A sell out to Ireland. Jeremy Corbyn stated "I chaired a meeting discussing the Middle East and the Middle East Peace Process, I have indeed met people with whom I profoundly disagree on many things in order to try and bring about a peace process. I worked with and met Sinn Fein in the 1980s in order to try and promote a Northern Ireland peace process. And I believe one should work with people with whom you don’t agree because just talking to people who you agree with isn’t going to bring about a long term settlement in the Middle East. I have also met people in Likud and very many right wing parties in Israel because at some point there has to be talks. Already Israel is talking to Hamas. The former head of Mosad has said there has to be negotiations involving them. I think we have to be serious about bringing about a long term peace."
In response to being asked by Victoria Derbyshire to clarify his position on Hezbollah and Hamas.

This video lists Presidents of the Sinn Féin organisation, not the political parties which hijacked the name Sinn Féin such as Tomás Mac Giolla's presidency of Free State party styled as 'Sinn Féin' which broke the Sinn Féin constitution in 1970 with his supporters accepting Westminster, Stormont and Leinster House. They were also known as 'Sinn Féin Gardiner Place', 'Official Sinn Féin' and later 'Sinn Féin the Workers Party' before dropping the use of the name Sinn Féin in the late 1980's.
Following a walk out, from 1970 the Sinn Féin president was Ruairí Ó Brádaigh who maintained it as a Republican organisation until Gerry Adams took over and tried to convert it into another Free State party by accepting the Leinster house parliament in 1986. This violated the Sinn Féin constitution which states those who advocate entering Leinster house or Stormont forfeited membership of Sinn Féin. Members of Sinn Féin who refused to join the new Free State party reconvened the Ard Fheis at another hotel as they had done in 1970 and upheld Sinn Féin's Republican constitution first adopted in 1917.
They re-organised as (Republican) Sinn Féin to distinguish themselves from the expelled members led by Gerry Adams who refused to drop the historic title Sinn Féin. The Free State political party created by Gerry Adams in 1986 went on to register a six county wing which, like the officials, recognised the Stormont parliament endorsing both parliaments established to counter the all Ireland national assembly envisaged by the original Sinn Féin.
The current president of the Sinn Féin organisaton is Des Dalton maintaining an unbroken link to the Republican Sinn Féin of 1917.

The others only spoke of the hotel being full, I spoke of how I had filled it - Morris
Sinn Féin's Tipperary General Election candidate Cllr. Séamie Morris has reminded his constituency rivals of his ability to do rather than just talk about doing. Speaking after an interview for the Seán O'Rourke Show on RTE Radio Friday, he said the venue in which the show was held was one he had filled many times with his sports tourism initiative.
Cllr Morris said: “The radio debate was held in the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh, a friendly hotel I know very well. Minister Kelly looked through the glass in the door and saw lots of young people down for an all-island Eight-ball pool tournament. He used that as an opportunity to say that his austerity policies were the cause of the economy doing well, and that the group present was evidence of a bustling economy.”
“The fact the group was sports related and had nothing to do with his efforts. On the other hand, I've brought sports tourists to that hotel and filled it more than once. I had the foresight to realise that hurling was a sport which could uniquely drive employment and inward spend, and I also had the initiative to make that happen.”
“One of the teams that came here to learn hurling came all the way from Kansas, USA – twice – and used a double-decker bus, there were so many of them. 50 High School rugby teams from the USA and Canada have been here over the last 3 years. While others are merely talking about the hotel being full, I have actually done that. In those 3 years the hotel has been full several times as a result of me using my initiative and creating the product that drew them in.”
“As Minister Kelly said, Tipperary is the home of hurling. He's right, it is the home of hurling. But words are cheap. Anyone can say what he said, but only I had the insight to turn that fact into employment for the young people who are working here now.”
“Minister Kelly also claimed direct involvement with the arrival of First Data. While I welcome the arrival of First Data - and hope the company will do well here with the well-educated and hard-working workforce available to them in Nenagh, we'll wait until they arrive and get going before we celebrate. Towns in Tipperary need jobs, but they need them now. A job at the distant end of a pipeline isn't enough, when a mortgage is due this week.”
“Up and down the county people are recognising that I have been innovative in how I do things. I could have complained, and I could have whinged. But instead, I used my time as a politician to create tourism and to create employment for the young people in our county.”
“It's up to the people to decide, but if they don't like how things are now, and they don't want more of the same, they'll have to decide to make the change and vote Sinn Féin.”

Election 2016: The Business Debate brought together a cross party political panel to debate business and economic policies in the run up to Election 2016. The panel of senior politicians included key spokespeople from Fine Gael, Labour, Fianna Fáil, Sinn Féin, RENUA Ireland and The Social Democrats. Arthur Beesley, Economics Editor with The Irish Times moderated the debate.
Ibec has set out a detailed general election policy platform, which is available at www.ibec.ie/ambition. Business has stressed the need for a tax system that better rewards work, and one that attracts talent and investment into the country; but we need to avoid narrowing the tax base and repeating past mistakes. When it comes to investment, we need to be more ambitious. The parties need to set out proposed capital expenditure commitments in much more detail. Vague promises are not enough.

A major conference held in Belfast has heard that a British withdrawal from the EU (BREXIT) would have disastrous consequences for Ireland.
The conference was a joint initiative between Sinn Féin and the GUE/NGL political group in the European Parliament and was a huge success, with over 150 people representing the trade unions, business, community and voluntary sector and farming and fishing industries in the North in attendance.
There was a healthy debate and discussion, with a range of different views aired around the impact of a BREXIT on Agriculture, Community groups, small businesses and the Human Rights Act.
However, the main conclusion from the day remained the same; a BREXIT would be disastrous to the island of Ireland.

Sinn Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin has welcomed news the Assembly is to set up an all-party group on suicide prevention.
Ms McLaughlin, chair of the Assembly health committee said;
"Suicide is an issue that impacts on every walk of life yet it is often hidden in our society.
"The issue of suicide prevention is a top priority and I am pleased that we have now got agreement to establish an all-party group focused on suicide prevention.
"The aim of this group is to ensure that suicide prevention remains high on the political agenda.
"In 2014 we had 268 deaths by suicide in the north; each and every one of those lives lost was a tragedy. We must do everything we can to support all suicide prevention initiatives.
"The group will also examine the zero suicide model that is currently in place in some parts of the United States and also in parts of England to see if we can apply the same lessons here.
"The new all-party group will hold its first meeting on February 1 and I look forward to its work."

Cllr. Eoin O'Broin (SF, Clondalkin) is one of of Sinn Féin's most respected economc commentators.. He is also a member of South Dublin County Council, having previously served as a member of Belfast's City Council.
CouncilMatters recently caught up with Cllr. O'Broin and grabbed the opportunity to quiz him on the values and priorities of a future Sinn Féin led government. He offers a clear commitment that Sinn Féin will not serve in any Government led by either Fine Gael or Fianna Fail, indicating they would prefer to be part of a broad LEFT oriented alliance.
He indicates how their commitment to abolish water charges and local property taxes can be met with increasing taxes on families earning averages wages. Cllr. O'Broin highlights the importance Sinn Fein emphasises the importance Sinn Fein attaches to supports for SME's as economic drivers, particularly in the areas of employment and wage growth.n He indicates that voters can expect Sinn Féin to be an interventionist rather than a more regulatory government particularly in the spheres of rent controls and social housing development.
In a clear nod to women voters, Cllr. O'Broin details Sinn Féin's women friendly policies in relation to affordability of child care costs, availability of creché places and flexibility of working hours.

Formáid thar a bheith simplí í seo ina ndéantar dreas comhrá le duine gan áiféis ná gáifeacht. Leagann an tsraith seo méar ar chuisle na hÉireann. Tá bua ar leith ag Máirtín Tom Sheáinín, cuireann sé a chuid aíonna ar a gcompord agus faigheann siad deis scéal a mbeatha a insint ar a mbealach féin.
Tá Máirtín sa chúlráid chun an cuntas a stiúradh go ciúin stuama. Is iad muintir na hÉireann ábhar an chláir seo. Cé go bhfuil próifíl phoiblí agus aithne mhaith ar fud na tíre ar chuid de na haíonna an séasúr seo, is ar ghnéithe eile dá saol a bheidh siad ag trácht.
One of TG4's most popular series is a deceptively simple format -- a conversation between the host, award-winning broadcaster Máirtín Tom Sheáinín, and his weekly guest. Whether they are national figures or people whose lives have not made the news, all are happy to share their feelings or experiences in a quiet conversation with Máirtín, each with their own special story to tell. In Irish, and subtitled in English
