Quotes:
Margaret Thatcher: It used to be about trying to do something. Now it's about trying to be someone.
Alexander Haig: So you are proposing to go to war over these islands. They're thousands of miles away, a handful of citizens, politically and economically insignificant, if you'll excuse me.::Margaret Thatcher: Just like Hawaii... I imagine.
Airey Neave: If you want to change this party, lead it. If you want to change the country, lead it.
Margaret Thatcher: This lot seems bound to do the same... but they will rue the day.
Margaret Thatcher: We will stand on principle... or we will not stand at all.
Margaret Thatcher: It's time to get up! It's time go to work! It's time to put the great back into Great Britain!
Margaret Thatcher: Sink it!
Young Denis Thatcher: Margaret, will you marry me? [a pause, Margaret stares at him] Well?::Young Margaret Thatcher: [Margaret is still staring, Denis kisses her hand] Yes. Yes!::Young Denis Thatcher: [Margaret starts to cry from happiness, Denis leans in for a kiss, but she suddenly pulls back] What?::Young Margaret Thatcher: I love you so much but, I will never be one of those women, Denis. Who stays silent and pretty on the arm of her husband. Or remote and alone in the kitchen - doing the washing up, for that matter.::Young Margaret Thatcher: [interrupts] I'm going to help with that...::Young Margaret Thatcher: No. One's life must matter, Dennis. Beyond all the cooking and the cleaning and the children. One's life must mean more than that. I cannot die washing up a teacup! I mean it, Denis. Say you understand.::Young Margaret Thatcher: That's why I want to marry you, my dear.
Margaret Thatcher: Where did you go?::Denis Thatcher: South Africa.::Margaret Thatcher: Ah, yes.::Denis Thatcher: How many days passed before you realized I'd gone? Probably had to ask the cleaning woman where I was.
Margaret Thatcher: "How do you feel?" / "Oh, I don't feel comfortable." / "Oh, I'm so sorry, we the group, we're feeling..." Do you know, one of the greatest problems of our age is that we are governed by people who care more about feelings than they do about thoughts and ideas? Now, thoughts and ideas, that interests me.

English/Nat
The former Zambian President, Kenneth Kaunda, was freed on Monday after serving five months under house arrest, accused of knowing about plans to overthrow the government.
The High Court in Zambia released Kaunda after state prosecutors dropped the case against him, apparently for lack of evidence.
It had been alleged that Kaunda had prior knowledge of a military coup by junior officers last year.
Until Monday morning, the 74-year-old former president hadn't stepped outside his house since January.
After emerging from the hearing at Lusaka High Court he was mobbed.
Prosecutors said they had dropped their case because of a lack of evidence.
But they entered a plea of 'no prosecution' which allows them to reopen the case if they unearth more evidence.
Kaunda ruled Zambia for 27 years until he was ousted by the voters in 1991.
But he still has the loyal support of many.
As he spoke, the crowd surged towards a defiant Kaunda, who now leads the country's main opposition group - the United National Independence Party.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"I said I would not shove (budge) until I was told why I was in prison. Today God has granted it - that I am out. But I have not been told why I was prison for five months and seven days. Why, I still don't know."
SUPER CAPTION: Kenneth Kaunda, Former President of Zambia
Seeming in robust form since his arrest on Christmas day, Kenneth Kaunda did not hold back from mocking the governing party - the
Movement for Multiple Party Democracy.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"Those ambassadors (politicians) know that the promises of the MMD - (Movement for Multiple Party Democracy) or the Movement for Madrax (a drug) Dealers or the MMD movement for mass destruction, all the promises that they made about accountability, transparency about governors, good governors. All these things, they have forgotten."
SUPER CAPTION: Kenneth Kaunda, Former President of Zambia
Kaunda's bodyguard was released at the same time and quickly took up his position next the ageing politician.
Both men were charged with concealing prior knowledge of a coup attempt by junior military officers that was quickly crushed in October 1997.
Shortly after being released Kaunda took the media to his home where he posed for pictures cradling his grandson.
As he drove through this downtown Lusaka street waving his trademark white handkerchief, he was escorted by thousands of well wishers.

The former President of Zambia, Kenneth Kaunda, has been arrested.
Paramilitary police detained the former Zambian leader on Christmas morning after surrounding his house for nearly 3 hours.
He spent an hour at police headquarters before being taken to Kamwala prison.
Paramilitary police took former Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda into custody on Christmas morning after surrounding his house for nearly three hours.
The arrest was carried out by 40 paramilitary police armed with AK47 assault rifles.
73-year-old Kaunda was taken to police headquarters in Lusaka in a high-speed convoy of pickup trucks.
About an hour later he was bundled into a car, and the convoy left again, this time for Kamwala prison.
At Kamwala, police formed a cordon to hold back about 500 people gathered outside.
Kaunda, who led the country to independence from Britain in 1964, said the detention didn't make sense.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"I asked my lawyer why are there seven of them. They asked why am I being detained. He said this man told you a lie to come in the house. He said they are just going to interview me and then they will bring me back."
SUPER CAPTION: Kenneth Kaunda, Former Zambian President
He waved his trademark white handkerchief at the crowd before disappearing into the prison.
The detention of Zambia's founding father came four days after Kaunda returned to the country from a lengthy lecture tour.
It was believed to be linked to a failed coup attempt in October against President Frederick Chiluba, who defeated Kaunda in the nation's first multi party election in 1991.
Dozens of military officers and troops and one opposition politician have been detained since the failed coup of October 28, when mutinous soldiers took over the state radio station and broadcast that they had toppled Chiluba.
Chiluba declared a state of emergency after loyal soldiers quickly crushed the rebellion.
Under the emergency declaration, police have wide powers to detain people for up to 28 days without charging them.
Extending the detention requires a presidential order.
So far, all of the more than 90 people - most of them soldiers - detained under the emergency declaration have had their detention extended indefinitely beyond 28 days.
A seven-party opposition alliance headed by Kaunda has accused the government of using the coup attempt and state of emergency to crack down on opposition groups.

English/Nat
International pressure has forced the Zambian government to move former President Kenneth Kaunda from prison and put him under house arrest.
Kaunda - who stands accused of mounting a coup attempt will also be barred from political activities.
However, it is not yet clear if the 73-year-old former president - considered the father of Zambia's independence - will be released or how long he will continue to be detained.
It was here - to a high-security prison north of Zambia's capital, Lusaka that the country's former President Kenneth Kaunda was taken after his arrest on Christmas Day.
He was jailed on December 25th soon after returning to Zambia from a trip abroad, accused of being behind an October 28th coup attempt.
Here he's meeting former Tanzanian leader, Julius Nyerere, one of many pressuring Zambia's government to either try Kaunda or release him.
The United States, Britain, South Africa, Botswana, Libya and the Organization for African Unity had all called for Kaunda to be put on trial or be released.
And on Wednesday, their appeals seem to have been heard.
In a national T-V address, Zambia's President Chiluba remembered Kaunda's days of greatness.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"To governments in the region, we appreciate their concern. We appreciate their concern about Dr Kaunda, who was our leader during the liberation time. He led Zambia, and we can't take this away from him."
SUPER CAPTION: Frederick Chiluba, President of Zambia
Kaunda will be placed under house arrest, not kept in jail, he said.
But he will face strict restrictions -- including no political activities.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"And so I listened to my elder statesmen and they are saying 'Keep him away from prison' so I called an emergency cabinet meeting last night and I informed them, and we agreed that we will not keep him in prison, we will move him from there and restrict him in his own house so that the former First Lady doesn't have difficulties in seeing my dear elder brother, Dr Kaunda. He will consequently be restricted in his own home but there are conditions on these restrictions and I hope he cooperates because if he doesn't we may be compelled to take him back to where he thinks he must stay."
SUPER CAPTION: Frederick Chiluba, President of Zambia
Kaunda led Zambia to independence from Britain in 1964.
He ruled the southern African nation for 27 years until he lost to Chiluba in the nation's first multiparty elections in 1991.
But it's not clear when the 73-year-old former president, would actually be released.
One Zambian leading the fight in Kaunda's support -- his son, a former army major -- here, leading a noisy demonstration outside Lusaka's High Court.
