On today's episode we take you around the country with us to explore the top 10 BEST State Parks in America for RVing. We visited 40 states and traveled more than 16,000 miles with our RV in 2018. During that time we stayed at more than 100 places ranging from RV resorts to Walmart parking lots and everything in between. Almost every single state park we camped in was incredible, so we challenged ourselves to pick our ten favorite. We even have a bonus entry at the end of our list - a National Park that we were able to fit our 37' rig into!

Katy Trail State Park
The Katy Trail State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Missouri that contains the Katy Trail, a recreational rail trail that runs 240 miles (390 km) in the right-of-way of the former Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad. Running largely along the northern bank of the Missouri River, it is the country's longest Rails-to-Trails trail. The trail is open for use by hikers, joggers, and cyclists year-round, from sunrise to sunset. Its hard, flat surface is of "limestone pug" (crushed limestone).
The nickname "Katy" comes from the phonetic pronunciation of 'KT' in the railroad's abbreviated name, MKT. Sections of the Katy are also part of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and the American Discovery Trail.
History
Conversion of right-of-way to a trail was made possible by the National Trails System Act of 1968. In 1982, the city of Columbia opened the MKT Trail on an abandoned spur of the Katy as one of the first rails-to-trails pilot projects in the United States.

State parks or provincial parks are parks or other protected areas managed at the sub-national level within those nations which use "state" or "province" as a political subdivision. State parks are typically established by a state to preserve a location on account of its natural beauty, historic interest, or recreational potential. There are state parks under the administration of the government of each U.S. state, and of some states of Mexico. The term is also used in Australia, though the distinction between state and national parks there is different. The Canadian equivalent term is provincial park. Similar systems of local government maintained parks exist in other countries, but the terminology varies.

Katy Trail (Dallas)
The Katy Trail is a jogging, walking, inline skating, and bicycling path that runs through the Uptown and Oak Lawn areas of Dallas, Texas (USA), following the path of the old Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, which was known as MKT or the Katy.

In Dallas, Texas, abandoned railroad tracks that had once divided the downtown core are rapidly being transformed into the unifying Katy Trail, a linear 3.5-mile (5.6 km) long, landscaped pedestrian, inline skating and bicycle trail system that runs through the most densely developed section of the city. Construction was started in Spring, 2000. Several features have already been completed, including the 12-foot (3.7 m)-wide primary trail, two of four new entrance plazas and four of the six planned pedestrian bridges. Construction was completed in 2007 on the Thomsen Overlook plaza, overlooking Reverchon Park. An 8-foot (2.4 m)-wide secondary jogging trail only has 1 mile (1.6 km) left of construction, which will be completed once more funding is secured. The work is being carried out by The Friends of Katy Trail under a Master Plan created by The SWA Group office, in Dallas.

On today's episode we take you around the country with us to explore the top 10 BEST State Parks in America for RVing. We visited 40 states and traveled more than 16,000 miles with our RV in 2018. During that time we stayed at more than 100 places ranging from RV resorts to Walmart parking lots and everything in between. Almost every single state park we camped in was incredible, so we challenged ourselves to pick our ten favorite. We even have a bonus entry at the end of our list - a National Park that we were able to fit our 37' rig into!

Riding the KATY Trail Westbound in 4 days. Bikepacking. 4k.
A friend of mine, Pam, who I haven't seen in years, posted on Facebook that she was interested in riding the entire KATY trail this spring. Several people were interested, including me. Only a few actually made it to the start line. Pam, Danny and me! We had a great adventure! Little did I realize what I had gotten myself into, since Pam and Danny are both avid cyclists who have literally rode across our continent and continue to ride long distances as routine. Conversely, I've only riden for fun and my longest ride would have to be a Bike-a-thon as a kid. I've always wanted to do a physical challenge that lasted over several days and the KATY trail proved to be just that.

They are also the last stop of the very popular Pedaler’s Jamboree festival. I head in to Windsor to checkout the next big connector trail to the Katy, the Rock Island trail that leads all the way to Kansas City! Last stop is the trail head at the far west edge of the trail in Clinton.

In this episode, I’m rounding out my Katy Trail adventure! I start out by stopping in to visit Dotty’s Café in Hartsburg Missouri. Dotty her team are a must stop location on the Katy Trail as they serve up their legendary cherry cobbler! Not only is this great café just yards off the trail, she is welcomes cyclists with open arms with free water to refill and super comfy rocking chairs on the front porch to take a rest before rolling on down the trail. I then head to the historic town of Rocheport where the original section of the Katy Trail was built back in 1990. Don’t miss the chance to ride through the one of the only tunnels on the trail! Katy Trail State Park
The Katy Trail State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Missouri that contains the Katy Trail, a recreational rail trail that runs 240 miles (390 km) in the right-of-way of the former Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad. Running largely along the northern bank of the Missouri River, it is the country's longest Rails-to-Trails trail. The trail is open for use by hikers, joggers, and cyclists year-round, from sunrise to sunset. Its hard, flat surface is of "limestone pug" (crushed limestone).
The nickname "Katy" comes from the phonetic pronunciation of 'KT' in the railroad's abbreviated name, MKT. Sections of the Katy are also part of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and the American Discovery Trail.
History
Conversion of right-of-way to a trail was made possible by the National Trails System Act of 1968. In 1982, the city of Columbia opened the MKT Trail on an abandoned spur of the Katy as one of the first rails-to-trails pilot projects in the United States.

A friend of mine, Pam, who I haven't seen in years, posted on Facebook that she was interested in riding the entire KATY trail this spring. Several people were interested, including me. Only a few actually made it to the start line. Pam, Danny and me! We had a great adventure! Little did I realize what I had gotten myself into, since Pam and Danny are both avid cyclists who have literally rode across our continent and continue to ride long distances as routine. Conversely, I've only riden for fun and my longest ride would have to be a Bike-a-thon as a kid. I've always wanted to do a physical challenge that lasted over several days and the KATY trail proved to be just that.

In this episode, I’m rounding out my Katy Trail adventure! I start out by stopping in to visit Dotty’s Café in Hartsburg Missouri. Dotty her team are a must stop location on the Katy Trail as they serve up their legendary cherry cobbler! Not only is this great café just yards off the trail, she is welcomes cyclists with open arms with free water to refill and super comfy rocking chairs on the front porch to take a rest before rolling on down the trail. I then head to the historic town of Rocheport where the original section of the Katy Trail was built back in 1990. Don’t miss the chance to ride through the one of the only tunnels on the trail! The next town is Sedalia where I meet Steve from Champion Bicycles. They have cyclists needs covered from the Western 1/3 of the trail. They are also the last stop of the very popular Pedaler’s Jamboree festival. I head in to Windsor to checkout the next big connector trail to the Katy, the Rock Island trail that leads all the way to Kansas City! Last stop is the trail head at the far west edge of the trail in Clinton.
