Quotes:
Narrator: [Opening narration to Repo Chick] In the last years of the Cold War, the former Soviet Union developed a new weapon of mass destruction. Harnessing the awesome power of the Earth's own gravity, these GD-34 GROWLER bombs were smaller and more destructive than any battlefield munition previously deployed. In the late 20th century, the largest repossession company was GMAC, General Motors Acceptance Corporation. With the deregulation of the banks, GMAC and other less scrupulous companies were able to sell mortgages to poor people who couldn't possibly afford them. As the economy collapsed, repossession corrections became the United States' only non-military growth industries. Meanwhile, six GROWLERS remained unaccounted for.
Opening placard: [Opening placard] The story you are about to see is true... Only the dimensions have been changed... To protect the innocent.
Aunt de la Chasse: Since our last meeting, Pixxi, you have been arrested how many times?::Aldrich De La Chasse: Well, it's been eighteen, hasn't it? Eighteen times.::Repo Chick: Come on, pops, you know how it is. It's those fucking Beverly Hills cops. They be lying at my probation hearing, they be lying wait outside our gate.
Grandma De La Chasse: Holding up with strangers!::Aldrich De La Chasse: Hookups, mother. They call it "hooking up." Hookups.::Grandma De La Chasse: That's right.::Repo Chick: Oh, grandma, those are lies. I knew all five of those boys.
Grandma De La Chasse: Yes, get a job or you'll be disinherited.
Repo Chick: Why did you pick up the phone if it's the wrong number, asshole?
Lawyer: But the law says...::Sixsixsix: The law can go suck my ass. Right, Pixxi?::Repo Chick: Alright 666, take it easy. Let's hear what the jerk has to say and then if we don't like it, we'll just throw him down the stairs.
Lawyer: [to Pixxi] You're an adult. Yes. Over eighteen, twenty one presumably?::Sixsixsix: Don't go there.
Lawyer: When your family said that you were disinherited, did they offer up any sort of deal, a resolution to be un-disinherited?::Repo Chick: [unintelligible]... job.::Lawyer: I'm sorry, I didn't hear you.::Repo Chick: [Emotional] They told me to get a job!::Sixsixsix: [to lawyer] You bastard!
Sixsixsix: [to the tow truck driver] Hey! Hey! Hey! Frankenfuck! What the hell you think you're doing?

Plot: The story takes place in a alternate postwar period, in 1996, where Japan is divided. Hokkaido is ruled by the "Union" while Honshu and other southern islands are under US authority. A tall tower was built on Hokkaido, which could even be seen from Tokyo. In the summer of 1996, three middle-school students make a promise that they'll cross the border with a self-constructed plane and unravel the tower's secret, but their project was abandoned after the girl, Sayuri Sawatari, became mysteriously ill and transferred to Tokyo. Years later on the brink of another war Hiroki Fujisawa finds out that Sayuri had been in coma since then, and he asks Takuya Shirakawa to help him finding a way to wake her up.

Taglines: Against all odds, a promise will be kept.
Quotes:
Hiroki Fujisawa: [Narrating] Now, those days are long gone... Our promised place was beyond those clouds.
Hiroki Fujisawa: [about Sayuri] She always said she felt like she was losing something. At the time... I was in middle school, and couldn't understand what she meant. But... those words had a strange effect on me.
Hiroki Fujisawa: [Narrating] At the time, we were drawn by two things: One was our classmate, Sawatari Sayuri... The other was the giant tower across the Tsugaru Strait. I was always looking up at that tower, I felt that something very precious waited there, I yearned to go there... One day... One day... I will go there.
Hiroki Fujisawa: [Narrating] Back then, I felt that this place, this time would last forever. The tower I admired that lay beyond the clouds... became the place of a precious promise. At that moment we weren't afraid of anything. But in reality, the world and the flow of time kept on going all around me.
Sayuri Sawatari: The sun... is taking its time setting...::Hiroki Fujisawa: [Narrating] That was a really special summer. But the world around me would betray me again and again after this. Since that day three years ago, I haven't seen Sawatari once.
Sayuri Sawatari: The chill wind seemed to blow from the depths of space, and the scent of a different universe was present.
Sayuri Sawatari: The sky, the clouds, the ruined city... No matter how far I walk, nobody appears.
Hiroki Fujisawa: [Narrating] Once I got to my room and shut the door, it felt like the bones in my body were tearing through my skin... as I was overcome with an intense, heartfelt pain.
Hiroki Fujisawa: [Narrating] Living alone, the nights seemed to last forever. When I couldn't pass the time effectively, I went to a nearby train station and pretended to wait for someone.
Hiroki Fujisawa: It's as if I've spent my days holding my breath under cold water... It's as if... It's as if...::Sayuri Sawatari: It's as if... I'm the only one left in the world.

We live in the United States of Surveillance--with cameras increasingly positioned on street corners and with much more invisible spying online and on the phone. Lyrics:
[Intro: MoTrip]
Guten Morgen NSA, yeah
Guten Morgen NSA, heut schon Facebook gecheckt?
Wahrscheinlich habt Ihr damals schon mein' Game Boy gehackt
[Hook: MoTrip]
Guten Morgen NSA, heut' schon Facebook gecheckt?
Guten Morgen NSA, heut' schon Facebook gecheckt?
[Hook: MoTrip]
[Bridge: MoTrip] [2x]
Guten Morgen NSA, heut' schon Facebook gecheckt?
[Hook: MoTrip]
[Outro: MoTrip]
Guten Morgen NSA [4x]
Yeah...

Lyrics:
[Intro: MoTrip]
Guten Morgen NSA, yeah
Guten Morgen NSA, heut schon Facebook gecheckt?
Wahrscheinlich habt Ihr damals schon mein' Game Boy gehackt
[Hook: MoTrip]
Guten Morgen NSA, heut' schon Facebook gecheckt?
Guten Morgen NSA, heut' schon Facebook gecheckt?
[Hook: MoTrip]
[Bridge: MoTrip] [2x]
Guten Morgen NSA, heut' schon Facebook gecheckt?
[Hook: MoTrip]
[Outro: MoTrip]
Guten Morgen NSA [4x]

Bruce Schneier talk about the NSA at MIT.
Edward Snowden has given us an unprecedented window into the NSA's surveillance activities. Drawing from both the Snowden documents and revelations from previous whistleblowers, this talk describes the sorts of surveillance the NSA conducts and how it conducts it. The emphasis will be on the technical capabilities of the NSA, and not the politics or legality of their actions. I will then discuss what sorts of countermeasures are likely to frustrate any nation-state adversary with these sorts of capabilities. These will be techniques to raise the cost of wholesale surveillance in favor of targeted surveillance: ubiquitous encryption, target dispersal, anonymity tools, and so on.
Bruce Schneier is an internationally renowned security technologist, called a "security guru" by The Economist. He is the author of 12 books -- including Liars and Outliers: Enabling the Trust Society Needs to Survive -- as well as hundreds of articles, essays, and academic papers. His influential newsletter "Crypto-Gram" and blog "Schneier on Security" are read by over 250,000 people. Schneier is a fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard Law School, a program fellow at the New America Foundation's Open Technology Institute, a board member of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and an Advisory Board member of the Electronic Privacy Information Center. He is also the Chief Technology Officer of Co3 Systems, Inc.

We live in the United States of Surveillance--with cameras increasingly positioned on street corners and with much more invisible spying online and on the phone. Anyone who is paying attention knows that privacy could be out the window. All of this is not happening by accident -well funded powerful agencies and companies are engaged in the business of keeping tabs on what we do, what we say, and what we think.
To many in the world, today, the face of America also has A BIG NOSE for sniffing and sifting mountains of data—phone calls, emails and texts. And with many mouths silenced by paranoia to keep what they decide is secret, secret. America has become a Surveillance-Industrial State where everyone’s business has become its business, and where one huge US intelligence Agency has been given the sanction and unlimited amounts of money to spy on the whole world.
Mass Surveillance is the focus of this new 6 part investigative documentary series examining who is watching whom and why.

You may have noticed CISA a version of the Cybersecurity bill passed in Congress with the Senate voting 74 to 21 to pass it. All in the name of cyber defense to protect the American people and more importantly Big Business from hackers. And thats all you need to know America, go back to sleep. What they didn’t tell you, was the NSA and big business slipped a trojan horse past the American people once again to allow them to spy on you. Yes…you.
Wired magazine reports “…..Privacy advocates and civil liberties groups see CISA as a free pass that allows companies to monitor users and share their information with the government without a warrant, while offering a backdoor that circumvents any laws that might protect users’ privacy. “The incentive and the framework it creates is for companies to quickly and massively collect user information and ship it to the government,” says Mark Jaycox, a legislative analyst for the civil liberties group the Electronic Frontier Foundation. “As soon as you do, you obtain broad immunity, even if you’ve violated privacy law.”
Even the Department of Homeland Security agrees that the latest CISA bill could sweep away many important privacy protections. Breitbart reports “Sen. Ron Wyden, a Democrat who allied with Sen. Rand Paul to water down provisions of the Patriot Act this summer, said the bill “virtually gaurantees” that private information unrelated to cybersecurity will be shared with the government, and said that the bill was a “direct pipeline to the NSA.”
The Senate rejected all of the privacy amendments that would protect the average citizens right to privacy. But how exactly did they do that. TechDirt breaks down the geek speak detailing the NSA’s Unconstitutional desperation to collect data related to innocent law-abiding Americans “...the NSA and FBI (and CIA, for that matter), frequently make use of backdoor searches of the upstream data -- a capability that was approved in 2011. Basically, the rules changed so that the intelligence community could sniff through data that was deemed collected "incidentally." And that includes basically anything that is picked up in the "upstream" collection of data (tapping internet backbone lines) under Section 702 of the FISA Amendments Act.... CISA is likely to be the key piece for letting the NSA and FBI warrantless spy on Americans' after the FISA Court limited that ability a few years ago. “
When a 2.8 billion dollar taxpayer funded JLENS Surveillance blimp becomes headline news. Those with eyes and ears clearly see a Criminal Surveillance State goliath out of control.

Germany and France are to spearhead a drive to try to force the Americans to agree new transatlantic rules on intelligence and security service behaviour in the wake of the Snowden revelations and allegations of mass US spying in France and tapping of the German chancellor Angela Merkel's mobile phone.
At an EU summit in Brussels that was hijacked by the furore over the activities of the National Security Agency in the US and Britain's GCHQ, the French president, François Hollande, also called for a new code of conduct agreed between national intelligence services in the EU, raising the question of whether Britain would opt to join in.
Shaken by this week's revelations of NSA operations in France and Germany, EU leaders and Merkel in particular warned that the international fight against terrorism was being jeopardised by the perception that mass US surveillance was out of control.
The leaders "stressed that intelligence-gathering is a vital element in the fight against terrorism", a summit statement said. "A lack of trust could prejudice the necessary co-operation in the field of intelligence-gathering."
Merkel drove the point home: "We need trust among allies and partners. Such trust now has to be built anew ... The United States of America and Europe face common challenges. We are allies. But such an alliance can only be built on trust."
Privately, according to senior sources who witnessed the two-hour discussion of intelligence snooping on Thursday evening, Merkel told the other leaders that the issue at stake was not that her mobile phone may have been tapped by the Americans, but that it represented "the phones of millions of European citizens".
While conceding that intelligence services everywhere might be prone to behaving badly, Hollande dismissed suggestions that the Americans were merely operating as other security services also did. He complained that the revelations by the US whistleblower, Edward Snowden, showed a level of eavesdropping and data gathering that took place nowhere in Europe and was unique to the US agency.
A delegation of nine MEPs will travel to Washington on Monday for a three-day visit, during which they will press senior US government and intelligence officials for answers on allegations of widespread spying by the US, and explore "possible legal remedies for EU citizens" resulting from the alleged surveillance.
Separately, the German government said on Friday that a group of senior officials including the heads of its foreign and domestic intelligence agencies would travel to the US "shortly" for talks at the White House and with the NSA.
The White House spokesman Jay Carney said the Obama administration was discussing Germany's concerns "through diplomatic channels at the highest level".
It is plain that the French and the Germans want to limit the damage from the NSA furore, but also hope to engage the Americans to rein in their activities. They set a deadline of the end of the year for results. The statement said other countries could join the negotiations, leaving the door open for British participation.
Given the role of GCHQ in the mass surveillance, Cameron found himself the target of veiled criticism at the summit, according to witnesses. Merkel complained that Britain enjoyed a privileged position with the Americans because it is the only EU member in the "Five Eyes Club" -- the intelligence-sharing arrangement linking the US, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Senior EU security officials suspect that Berlin may seek to exploit the crisis to gain admission to, or at least greater co-operation with, the Five Eyes pact.
Cameron, sources said, responded to the critical remarks by stressing that under his premiership the shared intelligence with the four other countries had resulted in several terrorist plots being foiled, with countless lives saved.
The controversy deepened on Thursday when the Guardian revealed that the NSA had monitored the phone conversations of 35 world leaders after being given their phone numbers by an official in another US government department. The latest claims, which emerged from a classified document provided by Snowden, have further overshadowed this week's EU summit in Brussels.

That ru...
A United States federal judge said Friday that the National Security Agency's controversial bulk phone data collection program doesn't violate the law.
That ruling came courtesy of US District Judge William Pauley, who decided in favor of the NSA early Friday in a case filed this past June by the American Civil Liberties Union against Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.
Judge Pauley admitted in a decision penned in the Southern District of New York court that the NSA "vacuums up information about virtually every telephone call to, from, or within the United States," but that no evidence exists that the spy agency abuses this program to spy on people without ties to terrorist organizations.
"There is no evidence that the government has used any of the bulk telephony metadata it collected for any purpose other than investigating and disrupting terrorist attacks," Pauley wrote towards the end of his 54-page ruling.
The ACLU filed their lawsuit in June of this year just hours after reports revealed that the US government has been regularly compelling telecommunication companies for the basic call records pertaining to millions of Americans.
"Because the NSA's aggregation of metadata constitutes an invasion of privacy and an unreasonable search, it is unconstitutional under the Fourth Amendment," the ACLU alleged when they filed suit. "The call-tracking program also violates the First Amendment, because it vacuums up sensitive information about associational and expressive activity."
Following Judge Pauley's ruling the ACLU issued a response, saying that it was "extremely disappointed" with the decision, which the organization feels "misinterprets the relevant statutes, understates the privacy implications of the government's surveillance and misapplies a narrow and outdated precedent to read away core constitutional protections," according to Jameel Jaffer, the ACLU's deputy legal director.
"We intend to appeal and look forward to making our case in the Second Circuit," said Jaffer.
Judge Pauley acknowledged in his ruling that the program does indeed slurp up massive amounts of sensitive data, but insisted that abuse has been infrequent and excusable given the advantages of the alleged counterterrorism tool.
Less than two weeks ago, District Judge Richard Leon issued a grossly different decision while weighing in on a similar case filed by plaintiffs in the US District Court for the District of Columbia.
"Because the government can use daily metadata collection to engage in 'repetitive, surreptitious surveillance of a citizen's private goings on,' the NSA database 'implicated the Fourth Amendment each time a government official monitors it," Judge Leon ruled.
In the ACLU v Clapper case, however, Pauley said, "Whether the Fourth Amendment protects bulk telephony metadata is ultimately a question of reasonableness."
Both suits were filed in the immediate aftermath of reports published this past June after former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden leaked classified national security documents to reporters at the Washington Post and Britain's the Guardian newspaper.
"For me, in terms of personal satisfaction, the mission's already accomplished," Snowden told the Post's Barton Gellman for an article published in the paper earlier this week. "I already won. As soon as the journalists were able to work, everything that I had been trying to do was validated. Because, remember, I didn't want to change society. I wanted to give society a chance to determine if it should change itself."
Indeed, Judge Leon's ruling and the recommendations of a task force assembled by US President Barack Obama amid public outrage about the revelations asked the government to make significant changes to the intelligence gathering operations waged by the NSA. But after a handful of victories for privacy advocates in recent days, Judge Pauley's decision on Friday is perhaps the most significant win yet for the Obama administration in its fight to keep the NSA's programs intact.
The bulk collection of telephony metadata, Pauley said, "represents the government's counterpunch to al-Qaeda" and helps the intelligence community keep the communications of terrorist groups well within its radar.
''The government learned from its mistake and adapted to confront a new enemy: a terror network capable of orchestrating attacks across the world. It launched a number of counter-measures, including a bulk telephony metadata collection program — a wide net that could find and isolate gossamer contacts among suspected terrorists in an ocean of seemingly disconnected data,'' he said.

Travel Philippines, Season 2, Ep36. Experiences living in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental province. It is the capital, principal seaport, and largest city of the province. Nicknamed "The City of Gentle People". Shopping and eating out can be cheaper compared to larger cities if you know the local culture and language. Some people may be interested in retiring in Philippines to live their dreams. I highly recommend you visit and explore the areas you are interested in first. Take a few weeks or months to see if you like it and can fit in. I know successful expats who stayed and have a happy life, and others who left Philippines after a few years. Living in a city long term is not the same as a short vacation. So you will have to get use to local standards. A local standard of living cost can be very affordable, depending on your lifestyle. But a high Western standard like living in America or Australia would cost the same or more than living back home in USA or AU. I've seen other party goers living beyond their means
and they get into trouble or run out of money real quick.

Travel Tips:
Everyone spoke English and generally very friendly.
It is important to have photo ID for flights, hotels, and if police ask.
It is common for taxi drivers in Manila, and every other city, to try rip off or overcharge foreigners and tourists. This includes motorbikes, or pedicabs / trike taxi. Ask them nicely to put the meter on, or negotiate the price from the start. Ask local security and your hotel what it costs for transport to your destination. If you are not comfortable, don't use that taxi. Don't be afraid to move on and find another taxi!
Shopping mall culture, locals love the mall for the aircon and to get out of the heat.
Generally you will notice ash and dust particles in the air as burning trash and charcoal BBQ cooking is quite common. Also if there is a lot of vehicle traffic in that city from jeepney buses, motorbikes, trucks and cars.
Locals often inflate prices for foreigners and tourists. Haggle and negotiate nicely. Be firm and confident, but always be respectful and polite. Shop around, you can often get a better price. Ask around about local fair pricing for things you want to do.
"Tip" can also mean bribe, so don't be afraid to ask what you're paying for upfront. Locals often do things to try help you, but then expect a tip you did not know about. Example: porters may offer, or simply grab your bags at an airport or seaport, then charge you a fee for carrying them. Stop them early, and politely ask what does it cost? Or just say "NO thank you".
The average basic worker earns PHP200 - 300 a day. So tipping PHP 20 - 50 is fine.

KGB (КГБ) is the commonly used acronym for the Russian: Комитет государственной безопасности (Komitet gosudarstvennoy bezopasnosti or Committee for State Security). It was the national security agency of the Soviet Union from 1954 until 1991, and was the premier internal security, intelligence, and secret police organization during that time. The KGB has been considered a military service and was governed by army laws and regulations, similar to the Soviet Army or MVD Internal Troops. While most of the KGB archives remain classified, two on-line documentary sources are available.
Since breaking away from Georgia de facto in the early 1990s with Russian help, South Ossetia established its own KGB (keeping this unreformed name). The State Security Committee of the Republic of Belarus also uses the acronym KGB.
The GRU (military intelligence) recruited the ideological agents Julian Wadleigh and Alger Hiss, who became State Department diplomats in 1936. The NKVD's first US operation was establishing the legal residency of Boris Bazarov and the illegal residency of Iskhak Akhmerov in 1934. Throughout, the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) and its General Secretary Earl Browder, helped NKVD recruit Americans, working in government, business, and industry.
Other important, high-level ideological agents were the diplomats Laurence Duggan and Michael Whitney Straight in the State Department, the statistician Harry Dexter White in the Treasury Department, the economist Lauchlin Currie (an FDR advisor), and the "Silvermaster Group", headed by statistician Greg Silvermaster, in the Farm Security Administration and the Board of Economic Warfare. Moreover, when Whittaker Chambers, formerly Alger Hiss's courier, approached the Roosevelt Government—to identify the Soviet spies Duggan, White, and others—he was ignored. Hence, during the Second World War (1939--45)—at the Teheran (1943), Yalta (1945), and Potsdam (1945) conferences—Big Three Ally Joseph Stalin of the USSR, was better informed about the war affairs of his US and UK allies than they were about his.
Soviet espionage succeeded most in collecting scientific and technologic intelligence about advances in jet propulsion, radar, and encryption, which impressed Moscow, but stealing atomic secrets was the capstone of NKVD espionage against Anglo--American science and technology. To wit, British Manhattan Project team physicist Klaus Fuchs (GRU 1941) was the main agent of the Rosenberg spy ring. In 1944, the New York City residency infiltrated the top secret Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, by recruiting Theodore Hall, a nineteen-year-old Harvard physicist.
The KGB failed to rebuild most of its US illegal resident networks. The aftermath of the Second Red Scare (1947--57), McCarthyism, and the destruction of the CPUSA hampered recruitment. The last major illegal resident, Rudolf Abel ("Willie" Vilyam Fisher), was betrayed by his assistant, Reino Häyhänen, in 1957.
Recruitment then emphasised mercenary agents, an approach especially successful in scientific and technical espionage—because private industry practiced lax internal security, unlike the US Government. In late 1967, the notable KGB success was the walk-in recruitment of US Navy Chief Warrant Officer John Anthony Walker who individually and via the Walker Spy Ring for eighteen years enabled Soviet Intelligence to decipher some one million US Navy messages, and track the US Navy.
In the late Cold War, the KGB was lucky with intelligence coups with the cases of the mercenary walk-in recruits FBI counterspy Robert Hanssen (1979--2001) and CIA Soviet Division officer Aldrich Ames (1985-1994).

B Adventures, Travel Series: Philippines 2015, Season 2, Episode 24. Travel vlog guide, tips, advice, food, and wanderlust. More info and links below. The City of Dapitan is a third-class city in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, on the island of Mindanao. It is historically significant as the place where José Rizal was exiled by the Spaniards for his revolutionary activities. He is considered a national hero, and this is known as the "Shrine City in the Philippines". The city is also home to Fantasyland, the first amusement park in the Visayas-Mindanao region.

Gloria de Dapitan, Fantasyland Amusement Park, and Dakak Park and Beach Resort are a group business.
http://fantasylandtours.com/
Our group had a beach side dinner at Dakak Resort. Then we head to Gloria's Fantasyland amusement park. Plenty of fun rides and live entertainment. There was also beauty pageant queens who did a big night parade, Festival of Colors, and firework show. Out front at Gloria's, there was a beauty pageant, and live band at Gloria's, outside of Fantasyland. Plenty of beautiful Filipinas.
WARNING! I do NOT recommend Mindanao region for inexperienced, or solo foreign travellers. If you do go to Mindanao, travel with local Filipino's and stay in safe and well researched areas. Security has improved in recent years, but there are active criminal and terrorist groups in Mindanao.

Locals often do things to try help you, but then expect a tip.
The average basic worker earns PHP200 - 300 a day. So tipping PHP 20 - 50 is fine.

The deputy director of the US National Security Agency (NSA), Richard Ledgett, has warned of the increasing danger of destructive cyber attacks by states.
He told the BBC: "If you are connected to the internet, you are vulnerable to determined nation-state attackers."
He said nations would need to identify red lines that should not be crossed.
He also said agency targets, numbered in "the high hundreds", had discussed leaks by contractor Edward Snowden, with some changing their behaviour.
Richard Ledgett's office on the eighth floor of NSA headquarters at Fort Meade is filled with exhibits on the history of code-making and breaking, ranging from American Civil War systems through a German Enigma machine adapted for use with Japan.
There is even an encryption device recovered from the wreckage of the Challenger Space Shuttle.
But it is modern challenges in cyberspace which are now at the heart of the NSA's dual mission of protecting sensitive government communications and collecting intelligence on America's adversaries.

Pakistan proxy war
Terming "jihadi terrorism" as common threat to South Asia, NSA Ajit Doval on Tuesday warned Pakistan not to engage in covert actions saying it is a very short-sighted strategy of the neighbouring country. He said Pakistan has never realised that it can be "profitable" and "most effective" for its economic growth and stability if it engages with India and rest of the South Asian countries.
"Till that happens, what India can do. I think one is that we should continue to work hard to persuade Pakistan, to convince Pakistan, through our sincerity, whatever we can do and whatever we think is the language in which the Pakistan can understand it well. We should be able to convey and convince it," he said.
Delivering the first 'Nagendra Singh memorial lecture' on 'Ensuring peace in South Asia: Role of India' organised by the International Goodwill Society of India, he said most of South Asian countries' security threats are internal.
"There is only one threat which has got its footprints in almost all of the nations. Problem about this is that its origin, its nursery, is also the member of South Asian region. Islamic terrorism or jihadi terrorism, rather I should use the word, is one of the common threats. Bangladesh is affected by it, Afghanistan is affected, India is affected, Pakistan is affected by it. Sri Lanka is affected," the NSA said.
This is one common threat on which there could have been much of cooperation but probably two of the countries Afghanistan and Pakistan have become epicentre of that, he said.
"Since Pakistan is part of the problem it could not become part of the solution," Doval said maintaining that "it is only Pakistan with which there have been problems".
He said after Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power one of the cornerstones of the government's policy was that "we have got to take all South Asian countries together".
"And that was the idea when all the heads of the governments were invited for his swearing-in ceremony. It did start well it did give us lot of dividend. Probably thing with Pakistan have not developed as much but we are sure that some day we will able to do so," Doval said.
He said another important requirement will be where Pakistan shifting from its strategic position where it feels that covert action can be effective low cost option of its security strategy because supporting terrorism or a covert action is a very low cost exercise.
"They think that it is an option. Probably plenty of evidence today is available with Pakistan. This it is a very very short sighted strategy. It hurts the people who propagate and support it much more than the people against whom these mentalities are built.
"We do hope that with the passage of time Pakistan will realise they have started taking some action against some of the groups particularly those groups which are hurting Pakistan," the NSA said.
Doval said Pakistan has taken action against some of the groups "which undermine security interest of the western countries" but groups like Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT), Jamaat-ud- Dawa (JuD), Harkat-ul-Ansar and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) "which are targetting India" and "which continue to get their support". He appreciated actions like return of Geeta, the deaf and mute girl from Pakistan, after being stranded in the neighbouring country for over a decade, as an effort to build on people-to-people contact.
"What is most important is this that Pakistan has to be convinced that covert action is not a cost effective option. The cost involved is much heavier and that will be unaffordable."
Pakistan has never felt that it can be profitable for it and most effective for its economic growth, for its stability, for its economic development, the acceptance in the world as more responsible in case it engages with India and rest of the South Asian countries, he said.

A century of secret deals between the NSA and the telecom industry
For nearly one hundred years, the NSA and its predecessors have been engaging in secret, illegal deals with the American telecom industry, with both virtually immune from prosecution.
How did this begin? How does it work? How much have US presidents known? What happens when they get caught? Will it change after the Snowden revelations? A fascinating look at a hundred years of handshakes and backroom deals between the eavesdroppers and the telecom executives.

A 36-year veteran of America’s Intelligence Community, William Binney resigned from his position as Director for Global Communications Intelligence (COMINT) at the National Security Agency (NSA) and blew the whistle, after discovering that his efforts to protect the privacy and security of Americans were being undermined by those above him in the chain of command.
The NSA data-monitoring program which Binney and his team had developed -- codenamed ThinThread -- was being aimed not at foreign targets as intended, but at Americans (codenamed as Stellar Wind); destroying privacy here and around the world. Binney voices his call to action for the billions of individuals whose rights are currently being violated.
William Binney speaks out in this feature-length interview with Tragedy and Hope's Richard Grove, focused on the topic of the ever-growing Surveillance State in America.
On January 22, 2015: (Berlin, Germany) – The Government Accountability Project (GAP) is proud to announce that retired NSA Technical Director and GAP client, William "Bill" Binney, will accept the Sam Adams Associates for Integrity in Intelligence Award today in Berlin, Germany.
