If you want to learn how to get toned abs you have to first determine which definition of tone you are after. The more popular way that “toned abs” is defined is one that refers to a leaner more visible set of abdominal muscles. This is and always will be achieved through a focus on nutrition. You must lower your level of body fat if you want to see the shape of the muscle underneath.
If you want to get muscles that are already developed to show more clearly, you have to improve your diet so that your overlying body fat can be decreased. The thick fatty tissue can obscure even the best set of abs at even 12% body fat or more. In order to really see your abs you need to follow a good nutrition plan that can help you to lower your body fat to at least 10% or less (ideally 7%).
That said, there are things that you can do in the gym to help increase ab muscle tone that will have an effect on how your muscles look and feel even at rest. You see, every muscle has a resting level of “tone” in it that determines it’s state of activity or alertness. This degree of muscle activation is not under voluntary control. It is there to help keep the muscle in a constant state of alertness and readiness for action. This type of tone can also protect the joints that the muscles are crossing.
For instance, when you get tired you may find that your head starts to bend back as you doze off. You likely then get startled back to being awake as your head snaps back to the upright position. This is a defense mechanism triggered by a stretch reflex in the muscles of the anterior or lateral neck. In order to protect the spine from a compressed state, the muscles and their perceived stretch tension are forced to action at a moments notice.
The more tone that is present in a resting muscle, the harder it will look and the more impressive it will be. Think about what happens when you hold your arm out to your side and flex your arm. When unflexed the muscle looks softer and less defined. Contract it just a little bit and you immediately see more definition and hardness.
In the gym, you can actually increase your resting level of involuntary muscle tone by training the muscles with stretch loaded techniques and increasing the difficulty level of the exercises. For ab exercises and training, this means selecting hanging bar movements. The ab exercises done from a hanging or pullup bar place more of a stretch on the abs in the eccentrically loaded or stretched position. Additionally, they are harder to perform and therefore require the contribution of much more core muscles in order to do them.
The increased contribution of the additional muscles awakens the previously dormant or uncalled upon muscle fibers that weren’t needed for the sub maximal intensity exercises and leads to an overall increase in resting tone. Over time, especially when combined with a good diet and nutrition plan, leads to much more visible and hard looking abs at rest.

Six pack abs are made from the combination of two things; a locked in nutrition plan and killer ab workouts that push you past your point of comfort. Just like any other muscle group, it’s hard to expect good results if you aren’t willing to increase the intensity of your workouts. In this video, I show you a brutal six pack abs workout that you can do in just a little over 6 minutes, without needing any equipment at all.
With just 6 ab exercises and very little space on the floor, you can do each of the moves in this abs workout and be well on your way to getting an impressive six pack. It’s important to note that the ab exercises shown here follow what I call the six pack progression. By including movements that target the lower abs, bottom up rotation, midrange, top down, obliques, and top down rotation you can get a complete abs workout done in just minutes.
You certainly don’t have to train your abs for hours on end each week if you want to get a six pack. All you need to do is follow the right type of ab exercises and do them with adequate intensity to really get your abs to start showing. The best part about this particular six pack workout is that you can do it at home. With no equipment required at all, the ab exercises in this workout are a great option for even the most advanced trainees.

A heart full of love is a heart full of gratitude. The Filipino heart never forgets genuine and unconditional acts of love and generosity. More importantly, we, Filipinos, never cease to give this love back in simple or grand ways that one’s heart can ever imagine.
Through the ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID this year, the Kapamilya stars expressed their gratitude to countless Filipinos whose stories inspire them in their work and in their personal lives.
The Station ID team wished that by showing these moments, we remind them that all their efforts in making a difference in the lives of others are never forgotten.
The SID’s song, "Thank You For The Love,"was written by Robert Labayen, Head of ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management Division. Music was composed, arranged and produced by Thyro Alfaro and Yumi Lacsamana. It was performed by the Philippines’ leading love teams on television and the big screen: Daniel Padilla, Kathryn Bernardo, James Reid, Nadine Lustre, Enrique Gil, Liza Soberano; and Coach Bamboo and The Voice Kids Grand Champion Elha Nympha.
With a million hits on YouTube within less than a week after it was launched, much anticipation is expected as the Christmas Station ID is set to premiere on November 12, 2015, in TV Patrol.
The 2015 ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID was created by ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management Division headed by Robert Labayen, Johnny Delos Santos and Patrick de Leon. It is directed by Paolo Ramos with second-unit director Peewee Azarcon-Gonzales.

Ready to begin the True Muscle Trainer? Of course you are! You'll start Phase 1 with an effective hypertrophy workout for shoulders and abs.

Although the goal for the next nine weeks is to increase your overall fitness, the purpose of phase 1 is to build some muscle using basic, old-school hypertrophy techniques. Meaning, we're going to be training like bodybuilders in the pursuit of muscle growth. Along with this ultimate goal, phase 1 was programmed to help you get to know some of my favorite techniques and exercises, and learn at which intensity level you should be working.
Phase 1 begins with a shoulders and abs workout that you can see in its entirety in the video below. I take Steve Weatherford through the whole thing so you can see exactly what I want your warm-up to look like, how to perform each exercise, and how to complete the conditioning.
Remember though: Steve Weatherford is a professional athlete, so don't compare yourself to him or worry about doing as much weight as he does. However, take your attitude and intensity cues from him. He'll show you how a workout should be done.

FST-7 stands for "fascia stretch training"—the "7" stands for the number of sets you do at the end of a workout. The goal of FST-7 is to expand and create microscopic tears in the connective sheath surrounding the muscle fibers called the fascia. These tears are achieved by flooding the muscle with blood while you work toward the most epic pump of your life!
The purpose of this particular workout is to widen the lats. If you're posing on stage, you want them to look 3-D, even from the back. Wide lats also provide that all-important V-taper. In this workout, we're doing 5 base exercises to help you build strength, and then following them with FST-7 sets that will volumize the muscle.
Jeremy will show you the intensity; I'll give you the cues. Put them together when you do the workout on your own, and you'll see and feel insane results!
If you haven't seen my FST-7 chest-and-biceps workout, make sure to check that out as well! You can implement both workouts into your normal training split. Just make sure to give yourself enough recovery time between workouts.
