Busan is the second largest city in South Korea, only smaller than Seoul, which is about 217 miles to the north. The seaside port city has natural charm, and Busan tourism is quite welcoming to visitors of all ages. Enjoy a blend of modern conveniences and Korean culture on your vacation to this coastal community.
Begin your trip to Busan with a visit to the famed Haeundae Beach, which is among the most popular stretches of sand in South Korea. Visit in early June, and you can witness the annual Sand Festival where people create elaborate sand sculptures.
After a morning in the sun, make your way to Taejongdae Park, a designated Busan monument and home to a rock beach. Take a walk along one of the many paths, marvel at the more than 200 types of evergreen trees, and visit the lighthouse.
Busan tours would not feel complete without a stop at the Jagalchi Market, which serves fresh fish. Because it’s right next to the port, you are almost guaranteed the day’s freshest catch. The marketplace vendors also offer up dried fish and produce for sale.
Once you’ve successfully experienced some of the best outdoor Busan sightseeing, put on your shopping shoes and head to Shinsegae Centum City. This place is the world’s largest department store, as verified by Guinness World Records™, featuring tons of brand names and an indoor ice rink.

Busan formerly spelled Pusan (Korean pronunciation: [pusan]) is South Korea's second largest metropolis after Seoul, with a population of around 3.6 million.
It is the largest port city in South Korea and the world's fifth busiest seaports by cargo tonnage.
The city is located on the southeastern-most tip of the Korean peninsula. The most densely built up areas of the city are situated in a number of narrow valleys between the Nakdong River and Suyeong River, with mountains separating some of the districts. Administratively, it is designated as a Metropolitan City. The Busan metropolitan area is divided into 15 major administrative districts and a single county.
Busan was the host city of the 2002 Asian Games and APEC 2005 Korea. It was also one of the host cities for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and is a center for international conventions in Korea. On November 14, 2005, the city officially announced its bid to host the 2020 Summer Olympics Games

Welcome to Haeundae Beach, one of Busan, South Korea’s most famous tourist destinations.
Sightseeing in Haeundae Beach can take up your entire trip, so plan out your time accordingly and get ready to join the party. This bustling district, located an hour from Gimhae International Airport (PUS), is loaded with casinos, resorts, and eateries. You can wander the streets for hours and never run out of new restaurants to try or clubs to dance in and out of.
When you’ve finished enjoying the party in the downtown area, tour Haeundae Beach itself. The sandy white beachfront is just under a mile long, and provides the perfect place for a stroll along the seashore or a dip in the sea. Haeundae Beach is popular with travelers and Korean residents alike, though it sees the bulk of its international visitors in the summer months. If you’re visiting from July through August, stake out your claim on the beach early in the morning, as the sandy strip vanishes beneath a sea of umbrellas by early afternoon.
Head to nearby Dongbaeseom to try your luck at fishing, or gather with hundreds of other beachgoers to enjoy one of the many festivals held there throughout the year. Haeundae Beach is a fine spot to view the New Year Sunrise—if you’re visiting during that time, you can gather with thousands of other revelers to watch the sun come up and start the new cycle. The celebratory feeling suits Haeundae Beach perfectly.

Port of Contrasts
Seattle-based photographer Stuart Isett and his travel guide Ines Min head to Busan. At night the coastal city shines brighter than Hong Kong, but has a heart that makes it more romantic than even New York. From the modern, urban forest near Haeundae Beach to historical Yeongdo Bridge, the city is a place of contrasts.
The two are in search of Busan's inherent character and charm, making friends with the lively, impassionate locals. It's a city that maintains its past while dreaming of the future.

When coming up with a top attractions travel guide for South Korea it became a daunting task to go through my travel video library collection of Korean videos and decide which ones to use. There is just so much to see and do in Korea from food to culture and from attractions and cities worth visiting. From Seoul to Busan and from countryside to urban city centers there is something for everyone. The following recommendation for the top things to do in South Korea:
1) Visiting Insadong
Considered by many to the cultural hub of Seoul, Insadong is the perfect place to indulge in Korean street, go shopping and take in Korean traditional musical performances. It is also one of the best places for people watching as you'll notice a mix of both Koreans and foreigners.
2) Korean Folk Village
The Korean Folk Village, nestled in between the cities of Suwon and Yongin, is a place you'll definitely want to check out. While wandering around he scenic premises you can snack on Korean street food delights such as sugary taffy where you'll notice traditional Korean wedding ceremonies, tightrope walking and equestrian students and performances. The best time of year to come is in the fall or spring.
3) Cat Cafes
Although we've been to several cat cafes in Thailand, Malaysia and Germany we still haven't found one that tops the cat cafe we visited in Hongdae, Seoul, South Korea. Purchase an entrance ticket, which entitles you to a drink, allows you to come in and interact with the cats playing, feeding and petting them to your hearts content.
4) One of the most historic markets in all of Seoul - and Korea for that matter - is Namdaemun Market. As the largest and oldest open air market in all of Korea you'll have a chance to shop and eat Korean street food all day long. My favorite snack here is hotteok.
5) A scenic and peaceful way to experience the heart of downtown Seoul is to wander along the Cheonggyecheon. There are few places that are more attractive to go walking. When we visited in winter we noticed many ice sculptures.
6) To beat the heat in the winter, visit a traditional Korean tea house for a fragrant cup of hot fruity tea and a delicious plate of Korean rice cake snacks.
7) Not a fan of cats? Try visiting a dog cafe as an alternative. It's the same deal as the cat cafe in terms of purchasing overpriced drinks for the chance to play and interact with cute dogs and puppies.
8) Kimbap Restaurant
For excellent Korean rice rolls, known as kimbap, head to one of the ubiquitous locations for some excellent kimchi fried rice, mandu and Korean soups.
9) Bamboo Park
If you visit the city of Damyang, in the southern region of Korea, you'll be treated to the Damyang Bamboo Forest Park. A nice scenic escape from urban Korean life, these parks do sometimes get crowded.
10) Boseong Tea Fields and Plantation
Not far from the Bamboo Forest Park is the Boseong Tea Fields. Come climb up to the very top - it's quite the workout and enjoy a cup of green tea or green tea flavored ice cream upon returning to the bottom.
11) There are a plethora of fascinating palaces and temples to explore in Seoul. Our favorite, is Gyeongbokgung Palace where admission is only 3000 Won. Pose with Korean guards and stick around for the changing of the guard.
12) If you're ready to shop until you drop be sure to visit Myeongdong, one of the most popular shopping districts in all of Seoul. Here you'll find swanky boutique shops and plenty of restaurants.
13) For the art and hipster scene be sure to visit Hongdae, the most popular student hangout area for Koreans. From food to nightlife to shopping this place has it all for young 20 somethings.
14) An alternative to Itaewon is Songtan - located nearby an American Military base in the Pyeongtaek region. This is where you'll come to buy American goods and to eat International cuisine.
15) Seoul Tower offers amazing views of the city but I enjoyed climbing Namsan even more. The climb is free and it best enjoyed on a fall or spring afternoon when the weather is cool.

물방울 떡 or Mulbangul Tteok is the Korean name for a Japanese Dessert known as Mizu Shingen Mochi. It's made from water, sugar, flour, syrup, and a gelatinous substance native to Japan called agar. It's very sweet to taste and the toppings make it a little bit crunchy when you mix it up.
I was walking along Gwangalli Beach when I spotted this stall outside of a convenience store. As I started in awe the food seller suggested I take a photo, so I asked if I could film it instead while I buy one. He obliged, and I watched as he carefully prepared this magnificent-looking dessert. He patiently told me the name in Korean as a few other tourists also trying it for the first time, equally captivated by the water droplet shape. Give it a go if you see it, it's very bizarre! Thank you nice food seller for allowing me to film this :)
Some words for you:
- Water Droplet Rice Cake (물방울 떡/Mulbangul Tteok pronounced mool-bahn-gool tokk) - Mulbangul means water droplet and Tteok is rice cake, though I don't think any rice actually goes into this.
