IT was heartening to read the Sindh High Court circular: GAZ/XII.Z.14 (HC) (II) in which it was stated that cases pertaining to overseas Pakistanis will be proceeded on a priority basis.
In continuation of the same circular of Oct 14, 2015, the Sindh High Court chief justice ordered that fast-track cases would not be discharged on account of an adjournment.
I am an expatriate living abroad and have been contesting a property case since 2008. Unfortunately, the final argument hearing in my suit has not started for nearly three years as serial numbers were always virtually at the bottom of the cause list. By the time the court reaches that number the court gets up for the day.
Often overseas Pakistanis get rid of their longstanding cases by withdrawing them.
It was interesting to read the news in Dawn, ‘Senate discusses proposals for speedy, inexpensive justice’ (Aug 20). Speedy justice is also essential for gaining public confidence in the justice system.
Faith in the judicial system is determined by speedy and cost-effective justice to all.
