The Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, just off Morocco in North Africa. Formed by volcanic eruptions and shaped by hot desert winds, they are comprised of 7 main islands.
When powerful seismic forces lifted these islands out of the ocean millions of years ago, they sculpted landscapes of unimaginable beauty. So spectacular are the Canary Islands that for centuries, it was believed that this archipelago formed the peaks of the legendary lost city of Atlantis.
Today, the Canary Islands are a magnet for sun seekers, beachcombers and adventur

Canary Islands Travel Video Guide • Great Destinations
The islands of eternal spring are made up of various landscapes. One can find anything from the lush, green forests in the mountains to sand deserts. The sandy beaches of Tenerife are shaded by the 3600 meters high Teide. One can take a look at Spain’s most beautiful zoo, while under the ‘Rock of Giants’ the tourists can befriend dolphins that live in the sea. In Gran Canaria one can take a trip up to the colorful empire of rocks, the nearly 2000 meters high Pico de Los Nieves. In the capital we can take long walks among the colonial style buildings with wooden balconies, and see the house, where Columbus was living. Near Maspalomas, we can take a look at a real sand desert. In the villages of Fuerteventura let us familiarize ourselves with the local buildings and take a trip on a camel. The island is a paradise for surfers, anglers and divers. On Lanzarote we can witness the force of nature; in the Timanfaya national park one can see geysers, volcanoes, which are still active, and also the epic work on Manrique, the Jamenos del Aqua, which is a combination of lookout towers, restaurants and swimming pools built into caves.

Americas East Coast Mega Tsunami Canary Islands explained
http://countdowntozerotime.org/
Americas East Coast Megatsunami Canary Islands Geologists S. Day and S. Ward consider that a megatsunami could be generated during a future eruption involving the Cumbre Vieja on the volcanic ocean island of La Palma, in the Canary Islands.[12][13]
In 1949, the Cumbre Vieja volcano erupted at its Duraznero, Hoyo Negro and San Juan vents. During this eruption, an earthquake with an epicentre near the village of Jedy occurred. The following day Rubio Bonelli, a local geologist, visited the summit area and discovered that a fissure about 2.5 km long had opened on the eastern side of the summit. As a result, the western half of the Cumbre Vieja (which is the volcanically active arm of a triple-armed rift) had slipped about 2 m downwards and 1 m westwards towards the Atlantic Ocean[citation needed].
The Cumbre Vieja volcano is currently in a dormant stage, but will almost certainly erupt again in the future. Day and Ward hypothesize[12][13] that if such an eruption causes the western flank to fail, a megatsunami will be generated.
La Palma is currently the most volcanically active island in the Canary Islands Archipelago. It is likely that several eruptions would be required before failure would occur on Cumbre Vieja.[12][13] However, the western half of the volcano has an approximate volume of 500 km3 (5 x 1011 m3) and an estimated mass of 1.5 x 1015 kg. If it were to catastrophically slide into the ocean, it could generate a wave with an initial height of about 1,000 metres (3,281 ft) at the island, and a likely height of around 50 metres (164 ft) at the Caribbean and the Eastern North American seaboard when it runs ashore eight or more hours later. Tens of millions of lives would be lost as New York, Boston, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Miami, Havana, and many other cities near the Atlantic coast are leveled. The likelihood of this happening is a matter of vigorous debate.[14]
The last Cumbre Vieja eruption occurred in 1971 at the southern end of the sub-aerial section without any movement. The section affected by the 1949 eruption is currently stationary and does not appear to have moved since the initial rupture.[15]
Geologists and volcanologists also disagree about whether an eruption on the Cumbre Vieja would cause a single large gravitational landslide or a series of smaller landslides.

The airport was the Los Rodeos Airport on Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The Boeing 747s were both charter jets that were not scheduled to be at their that day. Both had been diverted from the Las Palmas Airport, after a group of militants had set off a small bomb at the airport's flower shop earlier that day. The first plane was a Pan Am charter carrying passengers from Los Angeles and New York to a Mediterranean cruise. The second was a KLM charter with Dutch tourists. Both were diverted to Santa Cruz that fateful day.
The Los Rodeos airport is infamous for its sudden fog problems and was not a favourite location for pilots. At 4:40 p.m. on a typically foggy afternoon, the KLM jet was cleared to taxi to the end of the single main runway. The Pan Am jet followed behind it and was to wait in side space while the KLM jet turned around to begin takeoff. However, in the fog, the Pan Am pilot was unable to keep the KLM jet in sight and did not move into the proper position. The Dutch crew of the KLM jet, possibly unable to understand the accented English spoken by the flight controllers, began to take off down the runway before the Pan Am jet was able to move to the side space.
At the last minute, the Pan Am pilot saw the other 747 coming straight at his own jet and screamed "What's he doing? He'll kill us all!" He attempted to swerve into a grassy field, but it was too late. The KLM 747 slammed into the side of the Pan Am jet and both planes erupted into a huge fireball. The only survivors on either plane were those in the very front of the Pan Am 747. Survivor Lynda Daniel later said of the disaster, It exploded from the back. Most of the people in the first six rows made it.
The investigation concluded that the fundamental cause of the accident was that Captain Van Zanten (KLM) took off without takeoff clearance. The investigators suggested the reason for his mistake might have been a desire to leave as soon as possible in order to comply with KLM's duty-time regulations, and before the weather deteriorated further.
Other major factors contributing to the accident were:
•The sudden fog greatly limited visibility. The control tower and the crews of both planes were unable to see one another.
•Simultaneous radio transmissions, with the result that neither message could be heard.
The following factors were considered contributing but not critical:
•Use of ambiguous non-standard phrases by the KLM co-pilot ("We're at take off") and the Tenerife control tower ("OK").
•The Pan Am aircraft had not exited the runway at C-3.
•The airport was (due to rerouting from the bomb threat) forced to accommodate a great number of large aircraft, resulting in disruption of the normal use of taxiways.

https://www.expedia.com/Canary-Islands.d180087.Destination-Travel-Guides
The Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, just off Morocco in North Africa. Formed by volcanic eruptions and shaped by hot desert winds, they are comprised of 7 main islands.
When powerful seismic forces lifted these islands out of the ocean millions of years ago, they sculpted landscapes of unimaginable beauty. So spectacular are the Canary Islands that for centuries, it was believed that this archipelago formed the peaks of the legendary lost city of Atlantis.
Today, the Canary Islands are a magnet for sun seekers, beachcombers and adventurers from all over the world.
With, 160 miles of coastline, 150 beaches and a climate that feels like it is always spring, the island of Fuerteventura is a perfect place to slow down and relax.
A short ferry ride to the west of Fuerteventura is Gran Canaria - a place of ever changing climates and vistas.
This island abounds with otherworldly landscapes that have been inspiring visitors for centuries. Take a hike to Pilancones Natural Park. The spectacular plateaus and cool ravines in this area are around 12 million years old.
Tenerife, is the largest and busiest of the Canary Islands, receiving around 5 million visitors a year.
Or, choose to visit Lanzarote is the Canaries’ easternmost island and is sometimes called the “Island of 100 Volcanoes.”
Be humbled by Mother Nature’s destructive power on a tour of Timanfaya National Park. This region suffered a series of devastating eruptions in the 1700s and has remained largely unchanged ever since.
No matter which of these magnificent islands you choose, as the sun’s molten rays merge the ocean with the earth, you’ll realise this is a place where Mother Nature and history collide.
The mythical city of Atlantis may be a story, lost in the mists of time, but the Canary Islands are only a plane ride away. Whether you are searching for dramatic adventures or a sun-soaked vacation, this archipelago is alive with a powerful magic all its own.

The Teide produces two climatic zones on the island as its height directly affects the weather conditions. The cool, wet and fertile north receives the rainfall from the clouds of the Trade Winds. Conversely, the sunnier south of the island remains relatively free of rainfall even in winter and instead enjoys spring-like temperatures.

Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago situated in the Atlantic Ocean. This island is famous for stunning beaches, picturesque villages and year-round sunshine.
Just half an hour north of the international airport is Corralejo, one of the island’s largest resort towns and the perfect place from which to explore the Corralejo Dunes National Park.
At the island’s southern end is Morro Jable, a town famed for seafood restaurants and a picturesque lighthouse.
Gorgeous beaches run the length of the Jandia Peninsula, reaching all the way to Costa Calma. For something different, check out the pitch-black sands of Ajuy Beach.
Should you tire of Fuerteventura’s beaches, head inland to explore the island’s amazing volcanic landscapes and villages. Take the winding roads up to Mirador Morro Velosa on Mount Tegu for the best views on the entire island, then visit Puerto del Rosario, the island’s capital.
With it’s long Spanish history, Fuerteventura is also home to many romantic buildings and churches such as the parish church at La Oliva and the town hall in Pajara.
Cotillo is perhaps the most picturesque village on the entire island. Stroll the old harbour, which is still used by fisherman, and admire the original windmills.
In an archipelago acclaimed for beaches, Fuerteventura has been blessed with some of the biggest and most beautiful. Combined with its perfect weather and incredible landscapes, this is the perfect island to relax, recharge and reconnect with nature.

Tenerife receives around 5 million visitors each year, many of whom head to the island’s seaside resorts to enjoy the year-round sunshine and spectacular beaches.
Enjoy golden sands and almost any watersport you can imagine at Las Americas Beach, one of the island’s most popular beaches. Or, take a dip in the crystal waters at Del Duque Beach - just 10 minutes’ drive to the north.
Los Cristianos, once a sleepy fishing village is now a beachside town where you can step straight off the boardwalk onto the soft sand.
For a seaside experience with a difference, head to the north or west to discover sultry black sand beaches. Visit Jardìn Beach…… or drive to Los Gigantes, which nestles against the bottom of magnificent cliffs.
For those who can tear themselves away from the island’s glorious beaches, Tenerife offers generous rewards. Some of the island’s most picturesque villages are only minutes away from the large resorts.
Ever since the golden age of discovery, explorers and thinkers have been drawn to Tenerife’s beautiful shores. In olden times, the trip was a perilous adventure but today, Tenerife is an easy plane ride away.
So, whether you are seeking ancient mysteries sunset over chair or escaping the modern stresses of daily life, come and discover all that Tenerife has to offer.

Gran Canaria Travel Video Guide • Great Destinations
Gran Canaria is probably the most colorful member of Canary Islands. For the holidaymakers it is worthy to visit the extremely long and beautiful beach of Playa del Inglés. Those who want to take pictures should visit the old district of the capital and wander among its colonial-style buildings with wooden balconies. The tourists are welcome to visit Canary Village and the house of Columbus. For those looking for romantic scenery we suggest the picturesque port of Mogan. The lovers of botany cannot leave out the Palmitos park. Those longing for entertainment can have a quick glimpse at the nightlife of Las Palmas, while during the day they can splash in one of the water parks or spend a pleasant day in the Wild-West village of Sioux City. The hiking fans can feel themselves at home here: they can make a trip into the almost 2000 meters high rocky empire of Pico de las Nieves with its palm trees, flourishing bushes and cactuses, while at Maspalomas they can enjoy real Sahara sand dunes.

Lanzarote Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
http://www.expedia.com/Lanzarote.d282.Destination-Travel-Guides
Lanzarote is the easternmost island of the Spanish archipelago known as the Canary Islands. Lanzarote was created by volcanic forces millions of years ago and its people have embraced the beauty of its stunning landscape in unique and creative ways.
Over the generations, many myths have abounded about the Canary Islands. Its original inhabitants believed the volcanic mountains to be the home of the gods, while early scholars believed the area to be the uppermost mountains of the Lost City of Atlantis.
With its spectacular landscapes, organic architecture and striking beaches, Lanzarote is perhaps the most magical of all the Canary Islands.
Manrique believed that no building on the island should be higher than a palm tree, and his passion for the local environment meant that most of the villages of Lanzarote have maintained much of their authentic flavour.
Head to Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote’s main tourist town and enjoy views across the harbour to the volcanic mountains of Papagayo.
Guided by the visionary hand of César Manrique, Lanzarote learned many years ago to embrace the unique gifts bestowed on it by Mother Nature. This island understands the true nature of beauty and as you watch the sun setting over this magnificent island, so will you.

Gran Canaria is the second most populous island of Canary Island. Located in the Atlantic Ocean about 150 kilometers off the northwestern coast of Africa. Gran Canaria is located southeast of Tenerife and west of Fuerteventura. The island is of volcanic origin, mostly made of fissure vents.
Gran Canaria is the perfect island on which to spend your holiday. A multi-faceted destination, you can enjoy many features you normally wouldn't find in such a small area.
The capital city of Las Palmas, in the north, is the largest city in the Canary Islands and represents an interesting alternative for tourists who can sight-see, spend a day shopping or relax on its world famous beaches.
The greatest natural attraction of Gran Canaria is the climate, which makes it an ideal all year round holiday destination.
Gran Canaria is often referred to as a mini continent not only because of its being situated between 3 continents itself, Africa, Europe and the Americas, but also for its variations in weather, benefitting from the Gulf Stream and the nature of the landscapes around the island. The north is usually cooler than the sometimes fiery heat of the south. Inner regions, being mountainous, can be cloudier and colder with more rain.
The Island of Gran Canaria is situated in the centre of the Canary Islands Archipelago between Tenerife and Fuerteventura. Year-round, spring-like conditions with average monthly temperatures ranging from 18°C in January to 25°C in August make Gran Canaria an ideal destination for both Winter Breaks and Summer Holidays.
Gran Canaria is the third largest of the Canary Islands (after Tenerife and Fuerteventura), but despite it's small size, the island is often described as being like a Continent in Miniature. The Dry South contrasts with the Green Pine Forests of the Mountainous interior and it is not unusual for there to be snow on the peaks while Holidaymakers are sunbathing on the beaches below.
The beaches at Maspalomas are amongst the best in the islands and resort of Playa de Ingles offers some very lively nightlife. If you don't want to spend your nights in a Disco Bar and your days on the Beach, Gran Canaria also offers excellent golfing with 6 Golf Courses and a long tradition of the sport on the island.
The island's capital, Las Palmas, dates back to the 15th century and with a population of nearly 400,000 is by far the biggest city in the islands. The colonial architecture, shopping, bars and restaurants make this city well worth a visit.
Gran Canaria is the best known Island, but it is only the 3rd biggest, after Tenerife and Fuerteventura. It was on Gran Canaria the big Tourist Adventure began, first in Las Palmas, but later on most of the Tourism moved South to places, where the Sun could be counted on.
Tourism has taken over in the Neon lit Cities, bur frankly, The Island is pretty Beautiful, and when leaving Playa del Inglés and Puerto Rico behind, you'll find, that Gran Canaria is much more than the Tourist Cities by the Coast. Take a trip in the Mountains to the Idyllic Villages, with Palm Trees, tall Mountains, gigantic Pine Trees, Volcano Craters and Whitewashed Houses in Villages between Almond Trees.
Here Christmas Flowers and Bougainvilleas grow as big bushes, and Clematis climbs the Walls, and where Fig Cactus and Agaves stands side by side. Or you can take a Trip along the steep West Coast, or a Trip to the middle of the Island, 1949 m above Sea level.
If you have a 2 Week Vacation -- or more, it could be an adventure to visit one of the other Canary Islands, and Ferries and Planes are leaving to the other Islands on a daily basis from Las Palmas and Agaete. When leaving in the morning, it is possible to be back the same Day -- but you can find opportunities to stay the Night, direct from the Street. The smaller Islands are not so stamped by Tourists, so the possibilities of a different Vacation than you will find on one of the bigger Islands are great. Tickets to the other Islands are not expensive, so this type of Vacation is cheap.

Tenerife (Spain) HD Vacation Travel Video Guide
Vacation travel video about destination Tenerife in Spain.
Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands, captivating, mysterious and vibrant, the ‘island of eternal spring’. It is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and located just three hundred kilometres from the African continent.Santa Cruz De Tenerife, north east of the island, is its capital, port and commercial metropolis. The Capitania General, which once served as the seat of the island’s military governors, recalls the time of General Franco’s rule. In addition to the Canary’s flora and fauna, the abundant remains of an extinct culture is particularly interesting, the islands’ indigenous people, the Guanches. Well-preserved mummies, which have been found in numerous caves, document their mummification ritual. Puerto De La Cruz is located on the splendid north coast, a city where both old and new combine and with a fishing and harbour district that were founded around five hundred years ago. With its Neo Classical bell tower, the Francia De La Peña Church dominates among palms, oleander and hibiscus. Teide National Park contains solidified boulders of lava and pumice fields that originated from volcanic activity. A huge crater formed around five hundred thousand years ago when the primal Teide Volcano erupted repeatedly. An island born of fire and water where remarkable weather, mysterious volcanoes and deep blue sea determine everyday life and where vegetation and moon landscapes capture the attention. Tenerife is most certainly the priceless pearl of the Canary Islands.
