Founder Community is a Silicon Valley event series by founders, for founders. We aim to inspire, educate and connect entrepreneurs of all levels. On June 29th MySpace began a new chapter in its reinvention with the company’s sales. Coincidentally, our July guest sold his last company Threadbox to MySpace and is currently their VP of Technology. Michael is a start-up junky with an amazing record of company sales and IPOs. Michael has a long career in breaking new ground for startups and bringing larger companies thru major inflections. Michael is currently VP of Technology at MySpace, as a result of a sale of Threadbox (fka cc:Betty), where he was co-founder and CEO. He incubated the real-time messaging service as an entrepreneur-in-residence at Venrock. He was Vice President of Sales and Business Development of web voice company Jajah (sold to Telefonica in 2010), following a three year effort as co-founder and CEO of social communications company Jangl (sold to Live Universe 2008). Prior to Jangl, Michael co-founded consumer VoIP service and device company, Ooma (privately held), and served as the company’s original CEO. Before becoming a founder, Michael worked in management and key roles in several successful startups: director of business and corporate development at Trapeze Networks (sold to Belden 2008), focused on partnerships, customer development; director of corporate development at Procket Networks (sold to Cisco 2004), focused on fund raising, marketing and customer development; director of sales at Redback Networks (IPO 1999), focusing on launching new products into emerging service provider markets, regional sales manager at Lucent by way of the Livingston acquisition (sold in 1997), and business development at Farallon/Netopia (IPO 1995). Michael earned his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology/Management from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. He is also a constantly gigging professional musician.
