Sorry for the massive delay, a whole bunch of reasons kinda piled up on top of me and I didn't touch the game for a while. I recorded this on the old computer before it blew up, but never got around to uploading it.
• (0:05) You want to give Fusoya two worthless augments in exchange for
Bless, Omnicasting and
Phoenix later. Especially the first two.
• (0:26) One of Geryon's spawnspots (
New Game+ only), the other being Mt. Ordeals' summit shrine.
• (0:49) While Fusoya's advice works in the 2D versions, it fails utterly here.
Don't listen to him. Man, the game designers really enjoyed trolling the vets, didn't they?
• (1:12) I was wondering how the hell you're supposed to get through this without too much difficulty, then I realised; Defend! Have EVERYONE Defend, and if you're fast enough, Laser
Barrage should only deal ~900(mage)-2000(warrior) damage; significant, yes, but thankfully no KOs (it should be the only damage received throughout the fight). As soon as the damage shows, throw everything you can at the
Attack Node; one
Fuma Shuriken and an attack from
Cecil should be enough, but have Rydia summon Ramuh in case it doesn't work out.
Once that's done, the rest of the battle plays out as in the 2D versions;
CPU first, node last.
Defense Node absorbs all elements (except
Earth, but you have no use for that here); use non-elemental stuff against it.
• (4:37)
I didn't do it
• (5:51)
Plenty of roleplayers use this to claim that Lunarians have a natural weakness for mind-control, but this case was borne of very specific circumstances, which we'll see throughout the video.
• (6:14)
Cool story bro
• (6:14) Expect to hear constant spamming of 兄さん "older brother" if you're playing JP
Dissidia. Like

Welcome to a DS-exclusive cutscene, supposedly meant to be in the original game but scrapped due to some kind of scripting issues. Most of my notes are here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aeRM6Q2mlg
• (7:05) Correct; specifically, it's
Greek. You heard of
Pandora, the "all-gifted", right? Same root.
• (7:05) And as for
Japanese; Theodor (young Golbez) - セオドール "seodōru" / Ceodore - セオドア "seodoa". Cecil combined his own name and his brother's for his son. No translation screw-up there, it's deliberate.
• (8:40)
Sure enough, he can't use a lick of white magic when he gets older.
• (9:37) [Sojiro_Blue] Cecil: "Don't interrupt my admiration of nii-san, strange woman!"
• (10:53) You think
Dark Knight Cecil was whiny? Then turn off the volume on your device right now. I literally cringed when I listened to it in playback.
• (11:49)
Here we go, THIS scene is what cements this version as canonical; it's shown as a flashback in
TAY. Not in full, but enough to get the major
point across.
• (12:10) Zemus' usage of mind-control is subtle; toy with your target's emotions, prey on their insecurities, leave them vulnerable and willing to do just about anything without their consciously knowing.
• (12:14) "
Born from womb of dragon's corpse are you!" is a reference to an old
Eastern European folktale involving the black fly species Simulium colombaschense, otherwise known as the
Golubac fly.
Rather obscure, so I'm assuming that the developers for the original knew about it and didn't simply pull his name out of thin air, even if the reasoning behind it wasn't explained until now.
• (12:28)
Volume off here too.
• (13:13) HE
DOES NOT
LOOK LIKE A
GIRL, SHUT UP
• (14:50) Doesn't respond 'cause he's still emo-ing. At least he has a good reason...or maybe not because the
Giant is about to collapse!
• (16:44) The only time any of the characters refer to themselves by their full name. May come as a surprise to blind players, but as
I've said before, the fandom has long known about it.
• (17:35)
Yes it was!
What the hell?
• (18:48)
Naturally leading to people calling him a chauvinist pig or some other related insult. You do realise this is a medieval society at heart, right? Cecil is supposed to represent the "ideal" medieval knight, and that includes chivalry and such, however misguided. He's not being sexist deliberately, he genuinely wants the women,
Rosa especially, to stay behind so they don't run the risk of dying. It doesn't excuse this entirely, of course, since we've seen how crazy powerful they are, but I can kind of see his train of thought.
• (19:46) lol did you seriously think they'd listen to him?
• (19:54) "Because your magic sucks, that's why!"
• (20:04)
Edge being Edge again.
