Tanzania has now been listed by the United Nations as the African nation where albinos are targeted for murder the most. According to long-standing traditions in the

Holly Nicholas of TheRebel.Media reports, NDP Environment Minister, Shannon Phillips says that she’s not an anti-oilsands activist, but she wrote a book about activism with mega-climate activist Mike Hudema.
For those of you that don’t know who Mike Hudema is, he currently works for Greenpeace and his main focus is opposing the development of the oilsands and reliance on fossil fuels. So in other words, he’s an activist.
The book in question – “An Action a Day Keeps Global Capitalism Away” outlines 52 tried and tested actions – one for every week of the year, including actions against the oilsands and how to set up a blockade.
But that’s not all. Phillips also went to British Columbia to campaign for the NDP in 2013 where the campaign message was to oppose Northern Gateway and Transmountain pipelines.
Plus, fellow NDP members and MLA’s Rachel Notley and David Eggen are known activists that defended her in the legislature when asked about Phillips involvement in the writing of the book.
Do you believe Shannon Phillips when she says that she’s not an activist?

Ray McGovern is quite frankly one bad motherfucker.
He was a CIA analyst from 1963 to 1990 beginning under President John F. Kennedy and lasting until the Presidency of George H. W. Bush. From 1981 to 1985 he prepared and presented the President's Daily Brief one-on-one to President Ronald Reagan’s most senior national security advisers including then Vice President George H. W. Bush.
In 2003 Ray came out of retirement and founded the Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) which analyses and criticises the use of intelligence. He famously confronted Donald Rumsfeld publicly about lying about W.M.D. and nearly got him to recant his statements. Ray also protested a speech by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by turning his back onkly to be physically removed, double handcuffed and seriously battered and bruised. He did this at the spry age of 71.
Please join me in welcoming Ray McGovern to London Real. I consider him a piece of living history and was honoured to be able to speak to him about issues ranging from the Cuban Missile Crisis to the Cold War to Edward Snowden and Julian Assange to the Ukrainian Separatists, Gaza, ISIS and more.

NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT — Racism definitely exists in the states, but how does creating artificial safe spaces within colleges solve the problem? Institutions of higher learning used to be a place where views were developed and challenged, now it seems like U.S. college students are softer than Charmin.
At Mizzou, Tim Wolfe stepped down after the football team refused to play amid controversy over race relations at the school. It didn't help that Wolfe almost ran over some protesters in October, but it also didn't help when protesters roughed up reporters, much like the CCP does to journos in China.
At Yale, an email was sent out before Halloween, basically telling students not to put on blackface, turbans or headdresses. When a professor wrote a counter email — in a sense asking why students couldn't decide for themselves — some students lost it and now want the professor and her husband, also a prof, booted.
In an open letter asking not to be coddled, students were appalled at the suggestion that they should meet offensive parties head on, without being given guidance about any modes or means to facilitate understanding. So apparently, these students DO want to be coddled.
Since when did student activism equate with censoring dissenting views? Maybe universities should just start offering social justice warrior degrees.

A string of murders that began in 2000 has now left more than 72 albinos in Tanzania dead. These killings are believed to be motivated by the lucrative trade in albino body parts, which some Africans believe possess magical powers.
Tanzania has now been listed by the United Nations as the African nation where albinos are targeted for murder the most. According to long-standing traditions in the country, albinos are believed to be ghosts who are cursed, but whose body parts can ward off bad luck, and bring the owner wealth and success. In response to these killings, in January 2015 Tanzania banned witch doctors.
In East Africa, one child in 3,000 is born albino, compared to one in 20,000 in the United States. In Tanzania, albino advocacy groups estimate the number of albinos to be somewhere above 100,000 in a population of nearly 50 million people.
VICE News traveled to Tanzania to meet with Josephat Torner, an albino activist who has dedicated his life to raising awareness and acceptance towards albinos in his country, while debunking the widespread myths and superstitions surrounding the congenital disorder.

Yale and Mizzou protests: Safe spaces and student activism go together like oil and water

"The libertarian moment that's happening right now is the product of 30 years of academic work, legal activism, and lawyers bringing cases arguing that the role of the courts is to protect individual rights and to put a stop to government overreach," says Damon Root, senior editor at Reason Magazine and author of the new book Overruled: The Long War for Control of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Overruled gives a fascinating historical account of the battle between two competing visions regarding the proper role of the Supreme Court–a battle which continues to shape our constitutional system today. Should the court defer to the majority's will? Or does it have the power and responsibility to protect individual rights?
Root recently sat down with Reason TV's Nick Gillespie to discuss this battle for control and why today's libertarians are fed up with the practice of judicial restraint. Libertarians are calling for the courts to increasingly police the other branches of government and snuff out any state or federal law that infringes on constitutionally protected personal and economic freedoms.
About 22 minutes. Camera by Jim Epstein and Anthony Fisher. Edited by Amanda Winkler.

Greenpeace activist Priya Pillai was offloaded from her flight to London as her proposed "testimony" before a British parliamentary committee would have been "prejudicial" to India's interests, the Centre has told Delhi High Court. The Centre also said her meeting with the committee would have had a "global cascading effect" which would create a "false image" of the country's "massive" efforts to protect tribals' rights that would only serve the "foreign policy interest of a foreign nation." In its affidavit, the ministry has also said that creation of a "false image" of India's efforts to protect tribal rights could also impact investment by foreignbusinesses in India. The ministry has also said that "in-person testimony of local activists" are used by some foreign nations to "add credibility" to their reports which are used as "instruments of control" to further their "core objective" of "foreign policy masked in the cloak of protecting civil rights". Such "tools" are "heavily biased" against "targetedcountries" as unlike in the United Nations, no opportunity isprovided to the "targeted" nation's local Embassy or HighCommission to record their opinion, the ministry said. The ministry also said the Look Out Circular was not issued to limit all of Pillai's freedom but "was focused only on the proposed activity of her deposing before a foreign parliament". Pillai, who was on January 11 offloaded from a flight to London at the IGI airport in New Delhi, has moved the court seeking permission again to visit the British capital to make a presentation before British MPs on alleged human rights violation at Mahan in Madhya Pradesh. On the last date of hearing, February 6, the court had expressed concern over Pillai not being allowed to visit London and said the government has to draw a line Between "nationalism and jingoism". 37-year-old Pillai in her petition has said that she has challenged her "offloading" and the 'Look Out Circular' issued on her, which had resulted in the stamping of "offload" on her passport by immigration officials.
