Die 8. Sinfonie Bruckners ist seine weiträumigste und längste, sie entstand zwischen 1884 und 1887. Dirigent Hermann Levi zeigte sich erschrocken über die Länge und das Ausmaß der Achten und riet Bruckner zu einer Überarbeitung. 1890 wurde diese zweite Fassung schließlich fertig. Bruckner selbst bezeichnete die Sinfonie auch als sein „Mysterium“. Eine geheimnisvolle Harmonik über ausladenden Melodien macht ihren Zauber aus; immer wieder wird sie auch als „Krone der Musik des 19. Jahrhunderts“ bezeichnet.
Heuer tritt zum ersten Mal das Oberösterreichische Jugendsinfonieorchester bei den St. Florianer Brucknertagen auf – unter der Leitung des französischen Dirigenten Rémy Ballot, der im vergangenen Jahr die Erstfassung der Dritten in St. Florian dirigierte.

This video by Travis Saul features a digital rendering of the Stele of Katumuwa. The ancient stele was discovered by University of Chicago archaeologists at Zincirli, Turkey in 2008. The inscription on the stele, written in a local dialect of Aramaic, is dated to around 735 BC. In word and image, Katumuwa asks his descendants to remember and honor him in his mortuary chapel at an annual sacrificial feast for his soul, which inhabited not his bodily remains, but the stone itself.
This reading of the Aramaic inscription and its English translation is kindly provided by Dennis Pardee, Henry Crown Professor of Hebrew Studies, Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago. Hermann Muhs (16 May 1894 - 13 April 1962) was a Secretary of State and minister responsible for churches question (Minister für Kirchenfragen) in Nazi Germany.
After World War I Muhs studied law in Göttingen and graduated in 1922. He opened a lawyer office and became a member of the NSDAP in 1929. From 1930 he was a member of the Prussian State Parliament and after 1933 he became the district president of Hildesheim.
In 1935 Muhs was the Secretary of State in the Reichsministerium für Kirchenfragen. His synchronization efforts and theological incompetence caused many disputes with the churches.
Against the orders of Heinrich Himmler who wanted to draw distance between the Schutzstaffel and the Church, Muhs participated in the funeral of Archbishop Karl Joseph Schulte in an SS uniform in 1941. Muhs, who had the rank of an SS-Oberführer, was expelled from the SS. Nevertheless, after the death of Hans Kerrl he was still the Minister für Kirchenfragen until 1945.

Chronologies of Collapse: Climate Change and the late Third Millennium BCE Ancient Near East. During the late third millennium BCE the Ancient Near East witnessed major historical transformations and the end of several empires, like the downfall of the Akkadian Empire in Upper Mesopotamia, the collapse of the first urban centers of the southern Levant and the end of the Egyptian Old Kingdom in the Nile Valley. Die 8. Sinfonie Bruckners ist seine weiträumigste und längste, sie entstand zwischen 1884 und 1887. Dirigent Hermann Levi zeigte sich erschrocken über die Länge und das Ausmaß der Achten und riet Bruckner zu einer Überarbeitung. 1890 wurde diese zweite Fassung schließlich fertig. Bruckner selbst bezeichnete die Sinfonie auch als sein „Mysterium“. Eine geheimnisvolle Harmonik über ausladenden Melodien macht ihren Zauber aus; immer wieder wird sie auch als „Krone der Musik des 19. Jahrhunderts“ bezeichnet.
Heuer tritt zum ersten Mal das Oberösterreichische Jugendsinfonieorchester bei den St. Florianer Brucknertagen auf – unter der Leitung des französischen Dirigenten Rémy Ballot, der im vergangenen Jahr die Erstfassung der Dritten in St. Florian dirigierte.

This video by Travis Saul features a digital rendering of the Stele of Katumuwa. The ancient stele was discovered by University of Chicago archaeologists at Zincirli, Turkey in 2008. The inscription on the stele, written in a local dialect of Aramaic, is dated to around 735 BC. In word and image, Katumuwa asks his descendants to remember and honor him in his mortuary chapel at an annual sacrificial feast for his soul, which inhabited not his bodily remains, but the stone itself.
This reading of the Aramaic inscription and its English translation is kindly provided by Dennis Pardee, Henry Crown Professor of Hebrew Studies, Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago. During the late third millennium BCE the Ancient Near East witnessed major historical transformations and the end of several empires, like the downfall of the Akkadian Empire in Upper Mesopotamia, the collapse of the first urban centers of the southern Levant and the end of the Egyptian Old Kingdom in the Nile Valley. In the lecture we will take a closer look at nature, date and possible reasons for these interregional collapses of the late third millennium BCE.
