A leap year (or intercalary or bissextile year) is a year containing one additional day (or, in the case of lunisolar calendars, a month) in order to keep the calendar year synchronized with the astronomical or seasonal year. Because seasons and astronomical events do not repeat in a whole number of days, a calendar that had the same number of days in each year would, over time, drift with respect to the event it was supposed to track. By occasionally inserting (or intercalating) an additional day or month into the year, the drift can be corrected. A year that is not a leap year is called a common year.
For example, in the Gregorian calendar (a common solar calendar), February in a leap year has 29 days instead of the usual 28, so the year lasts 366 days instead of the usual 365. Similarly, in the Hebrew calendar (a lunisolar calendar), Adar Aleph, a 13th lunar month is added seven times every 19 years to the twelve lunar months in its common years to keep its calendar year from drifting through the seasons too rapidly.
Prince Lincoln Thompson, known as Sax (June 18, 1949 - January 23, 1999), was a Jamaican singer, musician and songwriter with the reggae band the Royal Rasses, and a member of the Rastafari movement. He was born June 18, 1949 in Jonestown, next to Trenchtown, both parts of the slummy shanty town in the poor west side of inner Kingston, Jamaica and died of cancer in London on January 23, 1999 days after being first diagnosed. He was noted for his high falsetto singing voice, very different from his spoken voice.
He began his recording career as a harmony singer along with Cedric Myton of The Congos in 1967 in a band called The Tartans who then split up in 1969. In 1971 he was taken on by Coxsone Dodd, and recorded 3 songs with him at Studio One called Daughters of Zion, True Experience and Live up to your name. In 1974 he recorded the Humanity album with Cedric Myton, Clinton Hall and Keith Peterkin, and set up the God Sent label in order to sell it. He had two hit singles with Love the way it should be and Kingston 11.
A software engineer is an engineer who applies the principles of software engineering to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of the software and systems that make computers or anything containing software work.
Prior to the mid-1960s, software practitioners called themselves computer programmers or software developers, regardless of their actual jobs. Many people prefer to call themselves software developer and programmer, because most widely agree what these terms mean, while software engineer is still being debated. A prominent computing scientist, E. W. Dijkstra, wrote in a paper that the coining of the term software engineer was not useful since it was an inappropriate analogy, "The existence of the mere term has been the base of a number of extremely shallow—and false—analogies, which just confuse the issue...Computers are such exceptional gadgets that there is good reason to assume that most analogies with other disciplines are too shallow to be of any positive value, are even so shallow that they are only confusing."

7 Reasons To Dream Big and Start Small
http://www.raitisstalazs.com/
You probably have heard a million times people telling you "Dream Big" set big, ambitious goals. While I think it's vital that we do that, we often forget about the simplicity of any achievement and that is starting small and taking baby steps. In today's video; I am sharing seven reasons why it's important to dream big and start small. The ideas are simple yet incredibly powerful strategies how you can achieve any goal. I use this all the time, no matter how ambitious my goals are.

SPOTLIGHT ON BUSINESS:What's required to start a business
Welcome to the Friday edition of Spotlight on Business. I'm Kim Taylor. Today on Spotlight on Business we take a look at what's required to start a business in terms of two factors - education and experience.
How do you know if starting a business is for you? Well, like anything, you figure it out one small step at a time.
As they say, you don't eat a steak in one big bite, you cut it up into manageable pieces and eat it one bite at a time. And so it goes with determining the best course of action for any given opportunity or challenge. One small "bite" at a time.
First, let's examine the role of and requirements for education. Do you need

This is Jessica. She lives in a small town north of Toronto, CA and loves to sing (as you can tell). She was only 12 at the time of this recording, about six months ago.
Immensely talented and down to Earth kid at the same time, Jessie is even better now, half a year later.
This is her second original song, "It's Wonderful".
It's Wonderful
Starting now,
Feeling good,
Knowing how
To keep the mood.
Walking out,
Breathing deep,
Going far -
Ready to leap.
Reaching high,
Top of my voice,
Make you cry,
With this joyful noise.
Dream about
New words to sing,
Think aloud,
Time for my Spring.
It's wonderful that I have you,
Someone I can cou

Jeffrey Travis, the Founder and CEO of Positron, talks about lessons learned when starting a new career, particularly when it involves a big leap from one field to another. In going from a software engineer to a successful independent film director, and finally, to a CEO of a funded and profitable experiential design company, Jeffrey will share insights and tips for those who are embarking on a new, and possibly radically different, career path.
Speaker Bio
Jeffrey Travis is the Founder and CEO of Positron (http://gopositron.com), a studio that integrates emerging technology (holograms, virtual reality, motion simulator games) to create interactive experiences for clients such as John Deere, Chevron, GE, and museums.
He has raised over $5 million in funding for both startup companies and film projects.
In addition to starting Positron, Jeffrey is a filmmaker. He is the writer-director of Dragon Day, a cyber-thriller that has been released in over 18 countries, and Flatland, an animated sci-fi film starring Martin Sheen, Kristen Bell, and Tony Hale. Jeffrey’s most recent film, Old Fashioned, was released in theaters nationwide this year.
Prior to his film work, Jeffrey was a biomedical engineer who ran his own software engineering consulting company, where he authored the best-selling software textbooks LabVIEW For Everyone and Internet Applications in LabVIEW (Prentice-Hall).
He grew up in Argentina and currently lives in Montrose, CA.

Main Points:
1) Starting small helps you break down your big goals in small manageable action steps.
2) Starting small helps you stay focused. As you complete one thing after another, you will create a momentum, and it will help you stay focused and ultimately reach your goal.
3) Starting small gives you more opportunities to celebrate your victories. Sometimes our huge goals will take years to reach, and it can be discouraging when we don't see progress for a very long time. Starting small gives you a sense of accomplishment and opportunities to celebrate our victories.
4) Starting small gives you clarity. Most of the time we will have no idea how to achieve our big, ambitious goals. When we take the fist steps towards our dreams, the path will become clearer, and as you move forward, you will see further and further.
5) Starting small gives you the enthusiasm you need to keep going. One of the biggest reasons people quit on their big goals is because they get discouraged, and you get discouraged when you see no progress. Starting small assures that you are making progress, and you don't quit.
6) When you start small, the impossible becomes possible. So many think that they have to get lucky, or they need to get a few things right to reach their goals, but that's not the case. Only by achieving small sometimes seemingly unimportant tasks will lead you to reaching your audacious goals.
7) When you start small, you will be an inspiration to others! By your actions, you will inspire your friends, family, and your community to take action and create the life they want.
Take Action: Write down your #1 audacious goal and then come up with ten things that you can do immediately to move you closer to that goal. Then take action without a delay.
Enough of holding back, it's time to elevate our personal and business lives!
P.S. Did you enjoy this video? If so, please be sure to share it with your friends and family!

Do you need extensive, formal education in order to start a business? The short answer is no. The list of successful business people and statesman who dropped out of school, or never went at all, is quite long and includes the likes of Thomas Edison, Benjamin Franklin, Albert Einstein, John D Rockefeller, and more.
From more recent times, many of our best known company and industry leaders had little interest in formal education, or perhaps, formal education had little interest in them!
While a formal education provides many benefits, it is not a hard and fast requirement for starting a business.
That said, it does provide some distinct advantages. I see it as having two primary benefits. First is the knowledge and exposure it gives you. Going to school opens your mind to the possibilities, the pitfalls, and the untapped potential within any given industry or area of specialization. It allows you to leverage what's been done in the past and integrate the wisdom of those who have gone before you into your plans so that you can "leap frog" the early learning and maximize your opportunity now.
Secondly, and equally important in my mind, is it gives you a solid pedigree. The truth of the matter is, you learn 75% of what you really need to know by actually doing it. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to get others to give you the opportunity to prove yourself without having a formal "pedigree." In general, people like the safer bet and having your education gives people a higher level of comfort that you have the wherewithal to undertake the heavy lifting required for new opportunities and challenges. At a minimum, it gives them the ability to "put a check in the box."
I always say, I received my first MBA in graduate school, my second as a consultant with IBM, and my third when I started my first company. Every step I took, in education and experience, paved the way for the next step.
Both in my confidence and skills, and in the minds of others who then aided in opening doors for me to pass through.
What if you don't have any or much formal education? Can you still do this? Absolutely! That's where experience comes in. As I said earlier, you learn 75% of what you need to know through experience. So, while education isn't necessarily a pre-requisite for starting a business, I would argue that experience is. Through your work and your volunteer experience you can amass the knowledge needed to understand planning needs, requirements for success, potential points of failure, and how to improve upon what exists today. Without this exposure though, how can you have sufficient perspective to successfully design, launch and operate a business? Learning curves can be very steep and in business, you don't always have the luxury of time to climb the first few hills. Prior experience mitigates that and gives you the "head start" needed to weather the tough spots as you go.
How do you view the "requirements" for education and for experience? Do you feel one is more important than the other? Let me know what you're thinking @SpotlightTalk # requirements. For Spotlight on Business, I'm Kim Taylor.

This is Jessica. She lives in a small town north of Toronto, CA and loves to sing (as you can tell). She was only 12 at the time of this recording, about six months ago.
Immensely talented and down to Earth kid at the same time, Jessie is even better now, half a year later.
This is her second original song, "It's Wonderful".
It's Wonderful
Starting now,
Feeling good,
Knowing how
To keep the mood.
Walking out,
Breathing deep,
Going far -
Ready to leap.
Reaching high,
Top of my voice,
Make you cry,
With this joyful noise.
Dream about
New words to sing,
Think aloud,
Time for my Spring.
It's wonderful that I have you,
Someone I can count on forevermore.
Someone loving, someone true,
When I go down and drown,
you pull me up to shore.

1988 (MCMLXXXVIII) was a leap year starting on Friday (link displays the full calendar) of the Gregorian calendar, the 1988th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 988th year of the 2nd millennium, the 88th year of the 20th century, and the 9th year of the 1980s decade.
In the 20th century, the year 1988 has the most Roman numeral digits (11). 1988 was an important year in the early history of the Internet—it was the year of the first well-known computer virus, the 1988 Internet worm. The first officially sanctioned online commercial e-mail provider debuted as well.[1]
The Soviet Union began its major restructuring towards a mixed economy at the beginning of 1988—less than 4 years later the country ceased to exist. The first extrasolar planet, Gamma Cephei Ab (confirmed in 2002) was detected this year as well and the World Health Organization began its mission to eradicate polio, a feat that is nearly complete as of 2014.
