I used cranberries and mixed peel in this dish which worked well with the mascarpone and ricotta. My Russian friend loved it although it was not like how her Dad used to make it (with baker's cheese and mixed fruit). I served it at a funeral wake in memory of my mother-in-law who always ordered it when we went out on mother's day. We served it in small coloured glasses.
