Rebecca (also spelled Rebekah) (Hebrew: רִבְקָה, Modern Rivká, Tiberian Riḇqā ISO 259-3 Ribqa,(AssyrianːܪܲܦܩܵܐːRapqa) from the Hebrew ribhqeh (lit., "connection"), from Semitic root r-b-q, "to tie, couple or join", "to secure", or "to snare") appears in the Hebrew Bible as the wife of Isaac and the mother of Jacob and Esau. Rebecca and Isaac were one of the four couples believed to be buried in the Cave of the Patriarchs, the other three being Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, and Jacob and Leah.
The news of her birth was told to her uncle Abraham before Akeidat Yitzchak (the Binding of Isaac), the episode in which Abraham was told by God to bring Isaac as a sacrifice on a mountain.
Many years after the Binding of Isaac, Sarah, Abraham's wife, died. After taking care of her burial, Abraham went about finding a wife for his son Isaac, who was already 37 years old. He commanded his servant (whom the Torah commentators identify as Eliezer of Damascus) to journey to his birthplace of Aram Naharaim to select a bride from his own family, rather than engage Isaac to a local Canaanite girl. Abraham sent along expensive jewelry, clothing and dainties as gifts to the bride and her family. If the girl had refused to follow him, Abraham stated that Eliezer would be absolved of his responsibility.
In a modern sense, comedy (from the Greek: κωμῳδία, kōmōidía) refers to any discourse or work generally intended to be humorous or to amuse by inducing laughter, especially in theatre, television, film and stand-up comedy. The origins of the term are found in Ancient Greece. In the Athenian democracy, the public opinion of voters was influenced by the political satire performed by the comic poets at the theaters. The theatrical genre of Greek comedy can be described as a dramatic performance which pits two groups or societies against each other in an amusing agon or conflict. Northrop Frye depicted these two opposing sides as a "Society of Youth" and a "Society of the Old". A revised view characterizes the essential agon of comedy as a struggle between a relatively powerless youth and the societal conventions that pose obstacles to his hopes. In this struggle, the youth is understood to be constrained by his lack of social authority, and is left with little choice but to take recourse in ruses which engender very dramatic irony which provokes laughter.
The Rivoli is a bar, restaurant and performance space, established in 1982, on Queen Street West in Toronto, Ontario. The club originally earned a reputation as one of Canada's hippest music clubs, and many major Canadian comedy and musical performers have played on its stage, including The Kids in the Hall, Gordon Downie, The Frantics, Sean Cullen and the infamous Dark Shows. The Drowsy Chaperone premiered at The Rivoli and went on to subsequent productions and eventually a highly successful run on Broadway.
In the 1980s, the Rivoli was synonymous with Toronto's black-garbed Queen West scene (Mike Myers' Saturday Night Live German club character Dieter was inspired by a Rivoli waiter). This reputation waned as the club's clientele became more eclectic and upscale, but the Rivoli's atmosphere is still unique. Talent scouts for Montreal's Just For Laughs comedy festival and the major television networks still routinely troll the Monday night comedy shows.
From 1987 to 1990 the Journal of Wild Culture held its regular avant-garde vaudeville nights, the Café of Wild Culture, featuring a mix of artists exploring the magazine's ecology and imagination mandate. Since the 1990s the Rivoli has been home to The ALTdot COMedy Lounge, Toronto's most popular alternative comedy show. In 2005, a second weekly show was added, The Sketch Comedy Lounge.
The Winnipeg Comedy Festival is an annual comedy festival, held in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Created by the Osborne Village Cultural Centre in collaboration with CBC Radio, performances from the festival are also broadcast as a radio series on CBC Radio One and as a television series on The Comedy Network.

Taking place between Christmas and New Year's Eve, two of the most notable events on the North American calendar, Windsor Comedy Festival has not only firmly planted its flag on December 27, but in 2014 has proven with the selection of headliner Ian Bagg (2015 finalist on NBC's Last Comic Standing) that they know how to bring the laughs to the big stage. Ryan McMahon‘s comedy is irreverent and boundary pushing as he focuses his attention on the good, the bad, and the ugly of the collision between Indian Country and the mainstream. A graduate of the prestigious Second City Conservatory (Toronto) Ryan’s storytelling brand of comedy is as smart as it is angry-ish – full of characters, standup, rants & raves. He is a role model for how humour can take you places and get you through life. We are honoured to have him telling his story of laughter and how it has contributed to his own wellness and the health of his family.
A quieter than usual Panda Riot for December 2014, but up-for-it crowd nonetheless. Bobby Mair headlines with some dark shit to round off a boozy Friday night gig.

This performance occurred February 14, 2014 held at the Heritage Park YMCA in Pawtucket, RI. It is a second versos of the popular puppet show. It was written and first performed in 1972. I was just starting out as a puppeteer, and on evening, my puppets were stolen from my station wagon. When I was looking for the puppets, a police officer suggested that I call the Providence Journal. I called the newspaper, and they placed an article on the first page of the second section the next day. A very kind women whose children had found the puppet suitcase called me ,and I recovered the puppets--well, most of them! Then about a week later, I was going to perform at a local school, and I tried out this new show. Is a puppeteer still a puppeteer without his puppets? Is a rabbit still a rab...
