Thousands of student protesters have marched on the UK parliament in a demonstration against university tuition fees. The Free Education action was organised by the National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts (NCAFC) and the Student Assembly Against Austerity. The groups want the government to stop students from paying fees of up to £9,000 ($14,109, €11,245) in England. Organisers of the march claimed that the protest was the start of a "major wave of action" ahead of the 2015 General Election next may. However, the National Union of Students (NUS), the UK's largest student union, did not endorse the demonstration – claiming that the protest was an "unacceptable level of risk" for its members.

Montréal university protest. Raise tuition fees
Did you know that students in Ontario pay the highest tuition in the country? Or that the average debt load after a 4-year degree for a student who uses financial assistance is $27,000? Tuition fees have risen from an average of $1,464 in 1990 to $7,235 in 2013. To top it all off, the Task Force on the Affordability of the Tuition-fee Framework chose to ignore Carleton’s surplus, creative budgeting opportunities, and student hardship in order to “conclude” that Carleton has no choice but to once more raise tuition fees this year. Going Underground producer Sebastian Pacher goes on the campaign trail with the Liberal Democrats. After 5 years in coalition with the Conservatives, will the public be able to forgive all the broken promises? After promising lobbying reforms, last week their former chief party fundraiser and chief secretary to the Treasury were caught on secret camera allegedly receiving dodgy donations. They broke pledges on VAT, raising it to 20%. And they tripled tuition fees, in a move that caused riots across London. Nick Clegg may have publicly apologised, but trust in the Lib Dems is still at an all-time low. But they plan to decriminalise drug use, whilst still penalising dealers, and allowing doctors to prescribe medical marijuana. With even former drugs officers saying all they did in the war on drugs was make the lives of addicts worse, will these promises be enough to restore voter faith in the party? They propose planting 1 million new trees, and introducing a 5p plastic bag charge, but they did back fracking. Norman Baker MP argues the party delivered a huge amount, getting 75% of their manifesto through with a sixth of the amount of MPs the Conservatives had, and thinks a Tory majority in the next election would be a disaster allowing companies to fire employees at will, helping ‘friends in the City’ through tax breaks, and privatising schools. But will this be enough to pull voters away from rising parties like UKIP and the Greens? READ MORE WATCH LIVE: FOLLOW ON TWITTER: FOLLOW ON FACEBOOK:
