Barada
The Barada (Arabic: بردى / ALA-LC: Baradá; Greek: Chrysorrhoas) is the main river of Damascus, the capital city of Syria.
Topography and source
Throughout the arid plateau region east of Damascus, oases, streams, and a few minor rivers that empty into swamps and small lakes provide water for local irrigation. Most important of these is the Barada, a river that rises in the Anti-Lebanon Mountains and disappears into the desert. The Barada flows out of the karst spring of Ain al-Fijah, about 27 kilometres (17 mi) north west of Damascus in the Anti-Lebanon Mountains, but its true source is Lake Barada, a small lake that is also a karst spring located about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) from Zabadani. The Barada descends through a steep, narrow gorge named "Rabwe" before it arrives at Damascus, where it divides into seven branches that irrigate the Al Ghutah (الغوطة) oasis, the location of Damascus. Eventually the Ghouta reached a size of 370 square kilometers, although in the 1980s, urban growth started replacing agricultural use with housing and industry. The river has also suffered from severe drought in the last decades, mainly due to the lower rainfall rates and the large increase in the population in the region. It also suffers from serious pollution problems, especially in the summer, where there is almost no flow and little water in the basin.

Although the Mongols destroyed the inner buildings, the fortress walls survived. The Suq is an important part of every Islamic city, a market that originated in ancient times. Thousands of shops in numerous interconnected lanes form the commercial heart of Damascus. In the Gold Suq everything glitters, bracelets, rings and even a large variety of kitchen utensils. Damascus has for thousands of years been a place desired by the powerful. Yet it has managed to survive and is still the most beautiful capital city in the Near East.

Mongol Rally Documentary 2015 Episode 4:
This episode covers our arrival in Turkmenistan, having a couple of small car crashes on the way to Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan and some of the incredible sites and landscapes of the breathtaking city and country. From there we chose to travel onwards to the Door to Hell, an amazing cultural, man made phenomenon sitting amoungst the amazing nature of the Turkmen desert. It had been a Soviet gas mining platform before collapsing and then being set alight. 40 years later it is still burning!
After the Derweze gas pit we drove towards the Uzbekistan border, unfortunately it was closed and we then had to find somewhere to stay another night in Turkmenistan. We met a really kind man who sat with us and shared stories and food until it became dark and we had to return to our hotel. The next morning we set off for the Uzbek border with this episode finishing with us in no-man's land!

Mongol Rally Documentary 2015 Episode 4:
This episode covers our arrival in Turkmenistan, having a couple of small car crashes on the way to Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan and some of the incredible sites and landscapes of the breathtaking city and country. From there we chose to travel onwards to the Door to Hell, an amazing cultural, man made phenomenon sitting amoungst the amazing nature of the Turkmen desert. It had been a Soviet gas mining platform before collapsing and then being set alight. 40 years later it is still burning!
After the Derweze gas pit we drove towards the Uzbekistan border, unfortunately it was closed and we then had to find somewhere to stay another night in Turkmenistan. We met a really kind man who sat with us and shared stories and food until it became dark and we had to return to our hotel. The next morning we set off for the Uzbek border with this episode finishing with us in no-man's land!
