Jeffersonville /ˈdʒɛfərsənvɪl/ is a city in Clark County, Indiana, along the Ohio River. Locally, the city is often referred to by the abbreviated name Jeff. It is directly across the Ohio River to the north of Louisville, Kentucky along I-65. The population was 44,953 at the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Clark County.
In 1786 Fort Finney was situated where the Kennedy Bridge is today to protect the area from Indians, and a settlement grew around the fort. The fort was renamed in 1791 to Fort Steuben in honor of Baron von Steuben. In 1793 the fort was abandoned. Precisely when the settlement became known as Jeffersonville is unclear, but it was probably around 1801, the year in which President Thomas Jefferson took office. In 1802 local residents used a grid pattern designed by Thomas Jefferson for the formation of a city. On September 13, 1803, a post office was established in the city. In 1808 Indiana's second federal land sale office was established in Jeffersonville, which initiated a growth in settling in Indiana that was further spurred by the end of the War of 1812.

La Ville de notre Prophète
FILMED IN HIGH DEFINITION Schimpff’s is simply a must stop if you’re visiting Jeffersonville, Indiana! Founded in 1891, it’s a deli, vintage soda fountain, ice cream shop, candy store, museum and candy factory, rolled into three 1800’s era buildings. Famous for red hots and candy canes, it also offers a fine assortment of chocolate, caramel and pecan filled treats! It is SO much bigger inside, than it looks from the outside. A visitor favorite is watching candy being made, and most popular is the annual candy cane production in December. Kids of all ages will love a visit, and the turn of the century nostalgia make this a very warm and endearing place to visit.

When I was six years old, I used to reach that road
And when the sun went down, I could see those far lights glowin'
I stood there for a while, then I went back to my house
Thinkin' about the far lights
The people in this town, walk starin' at the ground
I had nothin' to say, so I went to watch those lights
And then a friend of mine, he told me "it's just another town"
I said "I don't believe you !"
But I've never been so brave to check if he was right
So I'm wanderin' around
Watchin' trucks passin' by
Never gonna hitch a ride
To the far lights
A sad blue neon light, is shinin' in this bar
And when she came inside, she spoke with sparklin' eyes
She asked about those lights, they told her "it's a town"
She cried "I don't believe you !"
So I took her hand and then we ran outside
In a breathless run
We went straight to the roadside
We were tryin' to hitch a ride
To the far lights
At the city limits sign, I felt she had a start
Her hand slipped off from mine, and she whispered "goodbye"
And when I turned around, she was no more in sight
I thought "I must believe it !"
Took a deep breath then I kept on with my ride
In a breathless run
I kept runnin' straight on
Still hitchin' a ride
To the far lights
I ran lookin' ahead
All along the roadside
I was tryin' to hitch a ride
