Zanzibar (
/ˈzænzɨbɑr/; from Arabic: زنجبار Zanjibār, from Persian: زنگبار Zangibār "Coast of Blacks"; zangi [black-skinned] + bār [coast]) is a semi-autonomous part of Tanzania, in East Africa. It comprises the Zanzibar Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, 25–50 kilometres (16–31 mi) off the coast of the mainland, and consists of numerous small islands and two large ones: Unguja (the main island, informally referred to as Zanzibar), and Pemba. Other nearby island countries and territories include Comoros and Mayotte to the south, Mauritius and Réunion to the far southeast, and the Seychelles Islands about 1,500 km to the east. Arab and Portuguese traders visited the region in early times, and it was controlled by Omanis in the 18th and 19th centuries. Britain established a protectorate (1890) that became an independent sultanate in December 1963 and a republic after an uprising in January 1964. In April 1964 it joined Tanganyika to form a new republic that was renamed Tanzania in October 1964. The capital of Zanzibar, located on the island of Unguja, is Zanzibar City, and its historic centre, known as Stone Town, is a World Heritage Site.

William Martin "Billy" Joel (born May 9, 1949) is an American pianist, singer-songwriter, and composer. Since releasing his first hit song, "Piano Man," in 1973, Joel has become the sixth best-selling recording artist and the third best-selling solo artist in the United States, according to the RIAA.
Joel had Top 40 hits in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, achieving 33 Top 40 hits in the United States, all of which he wrote himself. He is also a six-time Grammy Award winner, a 23-time Grammy nominee and has sold over 150 million records worldwide. He was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame (1992), the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1999), the Long Island Music Hall of Fame (2006), and the Hit Parade Hall of Fame (2009). In 2008, Billboard magazine released a list of the Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists to celebrate the US singles chart's 50th anniversary, with Billy Joel positioned at No. 23. With the exception of the 2007 songs "All My Life" and "Christmas in Fallujah," Joel stopped recording pop/rock material after 1993's River of Dreams, but he continued to tour extensively until 2010.

I hope you're all having a fantastic 2015 so far!!
Zanzibar is a paradise-like island just off the Tanzanian coast. An island of spice and exotic aromas, sultans' palaces, harems, shining white beaches and fiery red sunsets.
The ancient oriental city of Zanzibar derived its name from its many old stone buildings. Charming and mysterious, they have witnessed much of the island's dramatic past and the tangled architecture of coral stone and shell lime serves as a fascinating backdrop to this colourful city that is strongly influenced by an Arabian way of life.
I visited over the Christmas to New year period 1014/1015, attended the biggest new years eve party at Kendwa beach and got lost on the legendary fairy-tale island of global culture. Its definitely worth a visit! :-)

Zanzibar is a paradise-like island just off the Tanzanian coast. An island of spice and exotic aromas, sultans' palaces, harems, shining white beaches and fiery red sunsets.
The ancient oriental city of Zanzibar derived its name from its many old stone buildings. Charming and mysterious, they have witnessed much of the island's dramatic past and the tangled architecture of coral stone and shell lime serves as a fascinating backdrop to this colourful city that is strongly influenced by an Arabian way of life.

Much of the summit of the huge mountain is covered by cloud and at nearly six thousand metres above sea level it is Africa’s highest mountain. Tens of thousands of flamingos transform Lake Bogoria into a colourful spectacle and its many geysers give the landscape an air of mystique, the hot springs highlighting the enormous energy that lies beneath the earth’s surface. Located at the southern tip of Africa, South Africa is surrounded by two oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian. Both the country and its inhabitants are in many ways remarkable and the cultural variety of several ethnic communities has been well maintained. The Kalahari in Botswana is one of the most sparsely populated areas in the world yet it has been inhabited for thousands of years: its Bushmen are proud of their long history. The San are a tribe of hunter gatherers who continue to use their extraordinary knowledge of nature right up to the present day. Just off the Tanzanian coast is the legendary island of Zanzibar once feared because of pirates but at the same time appreciated for its marvellous spices and in the ancient town of Stone Town several buildings have been restored and now shine out once again in all of their historic glory. Africa, the Dark Continent - but with all the fascinating colours of the rainbow!

There is plenty of traditional food, cultural practices (such as hunting with bushmen, beeskeeping, traditional medicine) that one enjoys within the boundaries. You will also get to visit a number of locations that normally people would be completely unaware of. If you happen to be a person who loves to explore the world and meet new people in order to gain knowledge about different customs, a cultural tour is definitely the best type of vacation for you.The services are not expensive and can turn out to be cheaper than expected provided you get the right information on where to stay, best tour companies and just knowledge of what you want. This way, it will save you time and costs as well.
3 - There are loads of National Parks for those wanting to watch Tanzania's wildlife. You can gain entry for around $100 US and benefit from a tour (and perhaps a night's accommodation). The better parks, though packed with tourists, are found in the north of the country. 9 - Kilimanjaro is one of Tanzania's main attractions. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa. Many visitors come to Tanzania to summit this great mountain. The main peak is estimated to be 5895m high making it a real challenge for mountaineers.

We made it to Zanzibar!!!
In Stone Town we were given the opportunity to go to a Spice Tour where we got to see and sample the many herbs and spices that can be found in Zanzibar. Our tour guides were awesome and even climbed to the top of a coconut tree, they also created jewellery out of coconut leaves for us. We got to taste coconut water and sample a huge variety of tasty fruit. A very informative and interesting tour and it wasn't too pricey either.
