In the fourth episode of Dream of Italy (new PBS travel series), we travel to Naples and the Amalfi Coast. Neapolitans are serious about their coffee and we visit the historic Gran Caffè Gambrinus to taste what some say is the best espresso in the city. Naples is also famous for its tailoring tradition and we visit Rubinacci for an inside look. While most first time visitors to Italy opt to head north to Florence and Venice from Rome, we decided to head south to Naples. We made this decision purely based on the delicious fact that Naples is the original home of pizza!
We pre-booked our train tickets on the ItaliaRail.com. Out of cost concerns, we went for the slow train, which took just under 2.5 hours to get from Roma Termini Station to Napoli Centrale. The only downside to booking tickets on the slow train is that you're not issued an e-ticket; instead ItaliaPass emails you a voucher that you must exchange for a ticket at Trenitalia's Ticket Office (or biglietteria) at the train station. If you find yourself in this situation, be sure to allot ample time for the voucher-for-ticket exchange - we recommend at least 30 minutes. Also be conscious of pickpockets as well as fake train station employees who are wearing polo shirts and lanyards. We were duped by one such woman who gave us completely incorrect information, took us to the wrong platform, and had the nerve to ask us pay her for her services. Fortunately, Tim was wise to go to the Trenitalia ticket office to ask for a second opinion. We made our train to Naples with literally just a minute to spare! The rule of thumb at Roma Termini Station seems to be not to talk to strangers; just walk away!
At Napoli Centrale Railway Station, we suggest stopping by the tourist office for a free map of Naples. If you're not in a rush, take the metro. It was just two stops from Garibaldi Station (a 5-minute walk from Napoli Centrale and connected underground) to Toledo Station where our hotel - Grande Hotel Oriente - is located. A metro ticket costs just 1 euro per person, but the machines only accept coins. An added bonus is that the metro stations are absolutely beautiful!
After quickly checking-in at our hotel and freshening up, we set off for pizza! Our hotel concierge recommended Sorbillo on Via dei Tribunali. Unfortunately, he didn't mention that there are two pizza restaurants with the same name just a couple doors down from each other. The Sorbillo we were looking for is located at No. 32! Sadly we stumbled upon the Sorbillo at No. 38 first and ended up having lunch there. All in all we were happy with the experience but disappointed as soon as we learned that we were just a few doors away from the famed Sorbillo. Next time!
Before arriving in Naples, we had no idea how much there was to see. If we were to do it all over again, we'd ideally stay for three full days: 2 in Naples and 1 for a day trip to Pompeii. Still, we made the most of our only day in Naples by walking around the historic center, Spanish Quarter, and near Naples Harbor and walking into whatever tourist sites we happened upon. Here are a list of the highlights:
-Cappella Sansevero Chapel Museum (the Veiled Christ sculpture housed there is truly breathtaking!)
-Saint Giovanni Maggiore Basilica
-Chiesa del Gesu Nuovo (church)
-Pio Monte Della Misericordia (not featured in this vlog)
-Monastery of Santa Chiara (there's a gorgeous, tranquil garden here!)
-the view of the city & Naples Harbor from the hill on Corso Vittorio Emanuele
-Piazza del Plebiscito and Chiesa di San Francesco di Paola
We also would have loved to see: the catacombs, Biblioteca Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele II (national library), and the castles!
We loved the gritty look and feel of the streets of Naples! But in addition to the grit, the city is full of historic treasures and cultural relics! We highly recommend spending at least a day or two in Naples!
As always, thank you for watching!!
Happy travels!! :)

Film Description: The second chapter in the "Bourne Trilogy," based on Robert Ludlum's best-selling espionage novels, reaches the screen in this sequel to the 2002 thriller The Bourne Identity. Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) has abandoned his life as a CIA assassin and has been traveling beneath the agency's radar, eventually reconnecting with Marie Kreutz (Franka Potente), the woman he loves. But Bourne is haunted by vivid dreams and troubling memories of his days as a killer, and he's not certain how much really happened and how much is a product of his imagination. When Bourne is led out of hiding by circumstances beyond his control, he must reconcile his past and present as he struggles to keep Marie out of harm's way and foil an international incident with dangerous consequences. The Bourne Supremacy also features Joan Allen as one of Bourne's superiors, while Julia Stiles and Brian Cox reprise their roles as intelligence agents from the first film.

Travel video about destination Napoli.
Napoli is the capital of Campania in southern Italy where hustle and bustle combines with serenity and joie de vivre. The Centro Storico Monumentale is located around the harbour and the Piazza Del Plebiscito embodies both grandeur and vastness, in contrast to the narrow confines of the old town. Close to the harbour is the mighty Castel Nuovo, its graceful entrance arch seemingly hemmed-in by two awkward-looking towers. Its construction began during the reign of Charles The First but Alfons Of Aragon subsequently had the castle completely rebuilt. From the centre of the town a small causeway leads to the tiny island of Borgo Santa Lucia. The island is dominated by a building which in ancient times was the residence of Lucullus, namely the Castel Dell´Ovo, the oldest fortress in Naples. The Via Partenope, with its magnificent buildings and luxury hotels on the coast near Santa Lucia, developed by land reclamation in the nineteenth century. A walk along the Caracciolo coastal road towards Mergellina passes the Parco Communale with palm trees, sculptures and fountains. Measuring four square kilometres, Procida is the smallest island off Naples, densely populated and with a long history and the picturesque Marina Grande at the Cattolocio Ferry Port typifies relaxed island life. Ischia, the island of Titan Tiphoios, is the largest of the three islands in the Gulf Of Naples, each one now being a very popular tourist destination. "A piece of heaven that fell to Earth”, that is how the Neapolitans rightly refer to their beautiful city and its surroundings.

Corsica Travel Guide http://bit.ly/11TGWls
Shepherd Entertainment gives you the history of Ajacio, the capital of Corsica who's lies in the northern part of the bay
with the same name and surrounded by a ring of green mountains, the background given by the Monte d'Oro.
The capital of Corsica Ajaccio with its 60000 residents lies in the northern part of the bay of the same name. It's surrounded by a ring of green mountains, the background given by the Monte d'Oro. Here's the seat of the parliament of the province where they deal with the issues of the whole country. Napoleon Bonaparte was born in Ajaccio and his name is associated inseparably with the name of the city. Here, everything is reminiscent of the ruler. But the city with its southern bustle is worth visiting for its other sites as well. The predecessor of Ajaccio was founded by the Greek. It was completely destroyed by the Sarcens and then it was revived by the Genoans. On the upper end of Austerlitz square, an enormous Napoleon monument is to be seen. The Bonapartes traced back their family tree to the last Roman ruling house.
The aristocratic family of Florence moved to Corsica in the 16th century. The lawyer Carlo Bonaparte married Letitzia here, the daughter of a wealthy family of Ajaccio with Saracen origins. 13 children were born of their marriage, but five died young. They sent their second son, Napoleon to a French military school to learn French in addition to his native Italian language. The Napoleon Museum has been established in the city hall. Original furniture, statues and paintings commemorate the commander who was already a first lieutenant of the artillery when the great French revolution broke out. In 1793, as the commander of an artillery battery, he forced Toulone to surrender and for this, he was appointed brigadier general. For his services, he was soon appointed the chief commander of the army against the Italians.
Before he departed to the battlefield, he married the widow of an executed nobleman, Josephine who was six years his senior. Napoleon piled on successes one after the other. He won every battle with his strategic genius. Returning home, he overthrew the directory and as first consul, he practically became the leader of the state. In 1804, he proclaimed himself, eternal French emperor which was confirmed by the people with a 3.5 million vote. Pope Pius VII anointed him in the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and then Napoleon placed the crown on his own and his wife's head. He put his family members, siblings and brothers in law on the thrones of Sicily, Spain, Holland, Naples and Westfalia. Because they didn't have children, he divorced Josephine and married the young daughter of Emperor Franz of Austria, Marie Louise who gave him an heir to the throne.
He was the prince of --. It was he about who the French poet, Edmund Rostandt wrote his romantic drama, the Eaglet. The cold of the Russian winter won a victory even over the troops of Napoleon. Out of the half million soldiers of the Grande Armie, only 8000 returned. The emperor was forced to resign from the throne and he was exiled to the island of Elba. One year later, he returned to Paris to his 100 days reign but after losing the battle of waterloo, he was permanently exiled to the island of St. Helena. He died six years later. He was buried in the church of the invalid in Paris with a luxurious ceremony. The birth house of Napoleon became the possession of the family in 1743. In the rooms, furnished in Italian style, we can find the family tree, paintings and coat of arms of the Bonapartes. Besides the salon, the dining room, and the hall, they also show the room where the emperor was born.

Shepherd Entertainment takes you on a tour of Valletta, the capital of Malta, which was built on the peninsula surrounded
by two bays.
Visit Valletta in Malta
The malicious that the language of Malta is like of an Italian which trying to speak Arabic however he only speaks English. And this complexity can be experience in not only the language but also the whole mentality and lifestyle of the people living here. Malta is located in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea close to the coast of Northern Africa and only one thousand kilometers from Sicily. The Archipelago is part of the British Commonwealth. So, it's quite obvious that Arabic, Italian and British and other cultures influenced it.
Malta's language basically is related to the Semitic language family and so it's related to Arabic and Hebrew. It's the only surviving form of the Phoenicians language so this is truly unique. The capital of the Maltese Archipelago of three inhabited and two uninhabited islands is Valletta. Valletta is built on the peninsula surrounded by two bays. After the Turkish' siege, the Popes send his Architect Francisco Lipari here who together with Gerolamo Cassar, the chief architect of the order of knighthood planned the symmetrical square reticulated street structure of the new town.
For the construction, they used rocks extracted underneath the town area. Therefore today there's a several kilometer long tunnel system running under Valletta. The upper house was bomb during World War II. There are plans for the rebuilding, however it's better not to expect this opening in the next one or two years. The busiest street of Valletta is Liberty Street starting from the town gate.
We can recover from the fatigue of sightseeing by sitting on one of the café terraces. The most famous is the Café Cordino. Behind the coffee, inside the beautiful library, there's an audiovisual exhibition on the history of the St. John. The sounds and picture effects are cutting edge.
The palace of the Grand Master has lasted one decade starting from 1570. The renaissance building has been both the master's office and resident. Today it's a presidential palace and meeting place of the House of Commons. The table is placed on the wall of the inside yard and remind us the vistas of the pope and the queen.
The interest of trick el dasca which is parallel to Liberty Street is that it was the only street in Valletta more where the nights have been allowed to fight a duel. Near, there are the toy museum and a small product palace, the Casa Roca Picola where paintings from the 15th to 17th centuries are exhibited. Nowadays, there are only 8,000 habitants living in the city and many moved out to the suburbs.
In Valletta, traveling by car is problematic because they drive on the left and it's hard to find a parking place. It's better if we visit the inner areas by walking or by a small horse carriage called Karrozzin. The star shape of St. Elma was built on the former place of the watch tower. Some scenes of the Oscar winning film Gladiator were shot here.
Inside we find a World War Museum converted from the command center of the British Air Defense. Besides others, General Eisenhower's jeep named husky is guarded here as well as three contemporary airplanes of the Maltese air force. One is even a little interested in military history can spend illuminating hours here.
The name of the St. John Cathedral indicates that it received its cathedral status from the Pope together with its fellow Medina. The building represents a classical byzantine Basilica. We can see simple and clear forms on the outside and rich baroque interior. In olden times the Congresses of the Knights were held here. When Napoleon's army ravaged Malta, the silver gate was painted black in order to prevent soldier's recognizing how valuable it was.
The flooring of the main ship is made from 400 carve colored marble gravestones. Under which is night rest. The 12 Grand Masters are buried here. Among them de la Vallett, his coffin was brought over from the triumphful ladican temple in Saint John fortress. Caravaggio's famous painting titled "St. John's as beheading" is exhibited in the cathedral museum. The painter is escape from Naples to Malta after he killed his enemy. The painter signature on the painting is no worthy as it's the continuation of the blood coming from the chop head.

Travel Guide - Monterosso Beach - Cinque Terre Italy
Information on how to get to Cinque Terre Italy and Monterosso Beach:
Cinque Terre is along the southwest coast of Italy, just north of another favorite Italy travel destination, The Amalfi Coast. To get to Cinque Terre, there are many ways to get there, but we suggest you fly into Genoa (Genovo), then take the Trenitalia (Treno or Train), southbound into Cinque Terre. There is not an actual town called "Cinque Terre". Cinque Terre is made up of five beautiful beach towns, starting from North going South; Levanto, Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia and Monarola. The only two towns that have beaches are Levanto and Monterosso with Monterosso being the most lively and have the most to offer. As you can see from this video there are beautiful beach girls, beach side hotels and beach front cafe's to be enjoyed.

Our summer trip to the area of Campania, mainly the bay of Naples, one of the oldest continuously-inhabited cities in the world.
