Wood is a hard, fibrous tissue found in many trees. It has been used for hundreds of thousands of years for both fuel and as a construction material. It is an organic material, a natural composite of cellulose fibers (which are strong in tension) embedded in a matrix of lignin which resists compression. Wood is sometimes defined as only the secondary xylem in the stems of trees, or it is defined more broadly to include the same type of tissue elsewhere such as in tree roots or in other plants such as shrubs.[citation needed] In a living tree it performs a support function, enabling woody plants to grow large or to stand up for themselves. It also mediates the transfer of water and nutrients to the leaves and other growing tissues. Wood may also refer to other plant materials with comparable properties, and to material engineered from wood, or wood chips or fiber.
The earth contains about one trillion tonnes of wood, which grows at a rate of 10 billion tonnes per year. As an abundant, carbon-neutral renewable resource, woody materials have been of intense interest as a source of renewable energy. In 1991, approximately 3.5 billion cubic meters of wood were harvested. Dominant uses were for furniture and building construction.

Edward Davis "Ed" Wood, Jr. (October 10, 1924 – December 10, 1978) was an American screenwriter, director, producer, actor, author, and editor, who often performed many of these functions simultaneously. In the 1950s, Wood made a number of low-budget genre films, now notable for their technical errors, unsophisticated special effects, large amounts of ill-fitting stock footage, idiosyncratic dialogue, eccentric casts and outlandish plot elements, although his flair for showmanship gave his projects at least a modicum of critical success.
Wood's popularity waned soon after his biggest name star Bela Lugosi died (in August 1956). He was able to salvage a saleable feature from Lugosi's last moments on film, but his career declined thereafter. Toward the end of his life, Wood made pornographic movies and wrote pulp crime, horror, and sex novels. His infamy began two years after his death, when he was awarded a Golden Turkey Award as Worst Director of All Time. The lack of filmmaking ability in his work has earned Wood and his films a considerable cult following.

I stopped short with the projects I had on the bench, and worked out a method that I could use to make these cuts without involving my nemesis, math. I have been asked by my in-laws to create a segmented bowl that they can give as a wedding gift. I have been looking at Hawaiian tapa cloth patterns and like one that is a chevron and a checkerboard pattern mixed together. I made the bowl so there is maple around the top and walnut around the bottom and the two woods mix in the pattern running around the bowl. I thought this was a nice metaphor of two people joining together. -

Hi, Wood carving - contrary to ear cleaning it's probably one of the most underrated asmr triggers, at least when we look at the intentional videos available on yotube. There are only a few videos involving the sound of wood carving. Now after making this video I know what's the reason. Initially I thought it is gonna be very simple and that I can do it really quickly, but in fact it turned out to be quite difficult and time consuming especially for someone who has never been carving before. I can say that I'm mildly satisfied with the visual result of my work, however when it comes to the sounds it's definitely not exactly what I expected

Plot: Among those who are fighting to have Congress re-establish the military academy at West Point in the beginning of the nineteenth century is a young Washington socialite, Carolyn Bainbridge. Congress resolves to revive the Academy on a one-year trial basis. Major Sam Carter, a martinet who doesn't believe a college can produce real fighting men, is made the Commandant, and determines to make soldiers - or failures - out of the small band of cadets, by enforcing stringent disciplinary action. Among the cadets are Howard Shelton, Carolyn's fiancée, and Dawson, a Kentucky frontiersman. There is bad blood between the two from the start, and matters are worsened when Dawson falls in love with Carolyn. Many of the cadets resign, under the discouraging conditions and grueling punishment that is part of Carter's plan to make the school hard and the exercises difficult, and the number of cadets left is down to ten. Word arrives that the Indian chief Tecumseh has gone on the warpath, and Carter is ordered to take part in quelling the rebellion, and to include the cadets along with the regular Bombadiers. Shelton, on patrol, is shot at by an Indian, and hot-headedly leaves his post in pursuit. Dawson leaves to bring him back followed by Major Carter who is captured by the Indians. Using tactics learned at West Point, the small band of cadets attack and demoralize the much larger Indian force, and succeed in rescuing Carter, and Dawson is wounded. Carter is grateful for the actions taken by the band, but says that Shelton and Dawson cannot remain as cadets since they had violated the rules by leaving their posts, and would be a bad precedent for future cadets. Carolyn has come to the Point to marry the unsuspecting Dawson, who thought she loved Shelton.

I have been asked by my in-laws to create a segmented bowl that they can give as a wedding gift. I have been looking at Hawaiian tapa cloth patterns and like one that is a chevron and a checkerboard pattern mixed together. I made the bowl so there is maple around the top and walnut around the bottom and the two woods mix in the pattern running around the bowl. I thought this was a nice metaphor of two people joining together. -

There are only a few videos involving the sound of wood carving. Now after making this video I know what's the reason. Initially I thought it is gonna be very simple and that I can do it really quickly, but in fact it turned out to be quite difficult and time consuming especially for someone who has never been carving before. I saw a band saw cut vase on a woodworking forum that I frequent, that lead me back to the work of Seth Rolland. I was amazed that I'd never seen any of his work until now.
I stopped short with the projects I had on the bench, and worked out a method that I could use to make these cuts without involving my nemesis, math.
I think the process I stumbled on, makes sense and should be fairly easy to translate it to larger and more intricate cuts. I would love to see you make of it.

At least when the French alternative-pop-folk superstars Nili Hadida and Benjamin Cotto, alias Lilly Wood & The Prick, have their way. Their haunting melody "Prayer in C" was quickly snatched up by the DJ, producer and label owner Robin Schulz from Osnabruck, Germany, and sublimated into a shining dancefloor pearl!
At the beginning of this year the head of Lausbuben Records ("Rascal" Records) and star DJ Robin Schulz already entered the Top 40 of the German iTunes charts with his single "Sunset". Last March he shoved none less than Pharrell Williams from the charts throne with his "Waves" remix for the Dutch rapper Mr. Probz and took a cosy position at Number One in the German singles, iTunes, airplay and dance hitparade charts. But this is not all because Robin Schulz is more than successful on an international level. The "Waves" remix stayed at #24 in the global iTunes Single Charts, at #21 in the global Spotify Charts and has held a Top 10 position in the Beatport Charts for more than three months. Following acclaimed live appearances in Germany, Holland, France and the UK, the Soundcloud-plays millionaire reached into his electronic bag of tricks and delivers a preview for the upcoming summer holidays with his deep house style remix of Lilly Wood & The Prick's "Prayer in C".
It's a superstar collaboration: "Prayer in C" is the acoustic counterpart to an open air summer party night in the Provence: the scent of lavender in the air and an atmosphere somewhere between melancholy and euphoria. The track is driven by the absolutely captivating, goose-bump-inducing voice of Nili Hadidas, who with her sexy-smoky timbre, the haunting lyrics as well as Benjamin Cotto's wistful acoustic guitar melody create the organic vibe. The Robin Schulz remix underlays the track with a tight straight-on beat that transforms the original folk-pop track into an energic. melody-house club hymn. An 81-year-old grandpa shocked a Tennessee guitar shop by walking in and performing the famous Mexican song, Besame Mucho.
Bob Wood, of Bethpage, Tennessee, played a fun rendition of the traditionally bolero song on an electric guitar in at British Audio Service in Nashville.
A manager at British Audio Service captured the 2014 moment on video, and Wood's rendition has since gone viral, having been watched more than 2,199,000 times on Facebook.

I have been asked by my in-laws to create a segmented bowl that they can give as a wedding gift. I have been looking at Hawaiian tapa cloth patterns and like one that is a chevron and a checkerboard pattern mixed together. I made the bowl so there is maple around the top and walnut around the bottom and the two woods mix in the pattern running around the bowl. I thought this was a nice metaphor of two people joining together.

In this video I take some reclaimed wood and craft it into a beautiful kitchen island. I has turned legs, mortise and tenon joints and a heart pine top. I go over quite a few techniques in this video and there are several videos that will be helpful in conjunction with this video. This island is being built for a customer who is designing it specifically for her kitchen, the top measures 36 X 48 inches and 36 inches tall matching her counter tops. The first step was turning the legs on the lathe. I started with my duplicator and then finished off the bottoms of the legs with an assortment of turning tools. Next the mortises were cut, aprons and rails made and assembled the base. The heart pine was planed, cut, and glued up into the top. After sanding and finishing the island was delivered and assembled. I hope this video is an inspiration of what you can make with basic woodworking tools that can be purchased at most any home center.

Wood carving - contrary to ear cleaning it's probably one of the most underrated asmr triggers, at least when we look at the intentional videos available on yotube. There are only a few videos involving the sound of wood carving. Now after making this video I know what's the reason. Initially I thought it is gonna be very simple and that I can do it really quickly, but in fact it turned out to be quite difficult and time consuming especially for someone who has never been carving before.
I can say that I'm mildly satisfied with the visual result of my work, however when it comes to the sounds it's definitely not exactly what I expected. Decided to upload it anyway, but please be careful if the harsh scratchy sounds are not your thing.

Making square, straight and smooth from rough sawn boards is not difficult. It's mainly practicing a reliable and proven method you feel comfortable with. In this video I pick a board that is far from square or flat, it has a nasty knot and some pretty horrible grain too.
The approach I take is pretty much a "textbook" approach. That's to say it's the method and combination of tools typically found in woodworking text both now and hundreds of years into the past. Having said that many people do things in different ways to do your research and find out what suits you best.
I use 3 planes, a Jack , Try and smoothing plane. If you are typically planing short pieces of timber you can get by using short planes just fine. However once your projects involve pieces of wood that are over a couple of feet long making do with a smoothing plane would be a false economy for me. There are many ways to get hold of tools, if you can't justify spending too much on a Trying plane a vintage Stanley or similar brand from the 1960's or 1970's will most likely be your cheapest point of entry. That advice goes for the jack plane and smoothing plane too.
Winding stick and a straight edge will be useful. As time moves you may find, as I do, that you rely less on them and can judge by eye what's going on. Winding sticks can be a fun project but all then need to be 2 x pieces of material that are straight and parallel. You'll see in the video how I use them.
The biggest thing I want to get over is less about the method but more about the mindset. Before I go any further how you work is your business, not mine, I'm not seeking to offend anyone with anything I say here. My main advice is be smart and don't try and copy what a machine is good at. Machine are brilliant at making lot's of pieces of wood consistent thicknesses and widths without us personally felling the strain in our bodies or wasting too much of our time.
When working by hand consider working with the thickness of the board to hand. If wood comes to you a little over thick and that extra thickness is not a detriment to you project leave the stock full.
Also think about the exposed surfaces, are all surfaces show surfaces or critical surfaces? Overworking any surface with a machine or by hand is from my point of view a waste of time. Now, I'm not suggesting poor quality work. I'm merely stating what has been true in crafts of all kinds for hundreds of years.
I'd go as far as saying that for practical, quality furniture overworking all the surfaces detracts from the piece. However your approach is your own and do what's right for you.

First up Public Libraries! Went to one the other day in a local town and was amazed at the amount of quality books on woodworking they had in their network, I mean really surprised. It might be worth you looking into what your local library has. I like to have secondhand books from car boots sales and cheap deals on amazon/ebay but I could not afford to buy lots of new titles. The library looks like a great way of getting hold more of the pricey stuff.
Radio. I have been listening to the radio a bit more and seem to be enjoying BBC Radio 1. This was a surprise to me as I'm nearly out of the target age range (I'm getting old). But I was impressed how many good modern and pop records are out there now. Here are a couple that have become earworms! Never thought I'd be into these tracks!

Waterstones & Diamonds. I've been trying out some waterstones of late and a trend diamond plane. The stones are the Shapton Ha-no-kuromaku line in 5000 and 12000 grit, yes 12000! All I can say is what a lot of rubbish gets written about waterstones. These seem great but I'll hold off talking about them in a video for a while. The diamond plate is great too. The nice thing about the waterstones is as they are fine they don't dish at all and are quite cheap bearing in mind how long they last.

« Прятки» -одна из самых популярных детских игр. В детстве в ней отрабатываются все навыки, которые потом присутствую в человеке- хитрость, осторожность, внимательность, находчивость и тд. Но главное- в ней присутствуют те ощущения, что так притягательны и неотступны для человека всю его жизнь- ощущение опасности, страх и одновременно тайна сокрытия. Мы акцентировали этот момент игры в нашей инсталляции. Зритель, попадая в зал, вдруг замечает, что обыкновенная стена «дышит», как будто внутри кто- то спрятался. Сумеречная комната оживает, «вздыхает» выключатель на стене , электрический провод , кусок плинтуса…. Кто здесь? Только слышится стук взволнованного сердца. Дух дышит, где хочет.
