Seville (
/səˈvɪl/; Spanish: Sevilla, IPA: [seˈβiʎa], locally: [seˈβiʝa]; see also different names) is the capital of the autonomous community of Andalusia and of the province of Seville, Spain. It is situated on the plain of the River Guadalquivir, with an average elevation of 7 metres (23 ft) above sea level. The inhabitants of the city are known as sevillanos (feminine form: sevillanas) or hispalenses, following the Roman name of the city, Hispalis.
Seville is the fourth largest city of Spain with a municipal population of about 703 thousand as of 2011, and a metropolitan population (including satellite towns) of about 1.5 million, making it the 31st most populous municipality in the European Union. Its old town is the largest in Spain (covering almost four square kilometers), and is one of the three largest in Europe along with Venice and Genoa. The Seville harbor, located about 80 km from the Atlantic Ocean, is the only river port in Spain.
The University of Seville was founded in 1505. Recently ranked the third university in Spain (and 190th in the world), it currently has over 50,000 students.[citation needed]

Plot: Set 18 months where Season 6 of '24' left off, former government agent Jack Bauer is in a self-imposed exile in the fictitious African country of Sangala where he hopes to escape from a U.S. investigation of him for his past methods, and to run from his past. Bauer works at a mission school for orphaned children run by his friend Carl Benton. The country is at the mercy of a rogue warlord general named Juma who is plotting a coup to overthrow the government and his right-hand man Colonel Dubaku, is abducting orphan boys and forcibly recruiting them into Juma's army. Bauer and Benton must work together to save the dozen or so boys and try to get them out of the country before Juma takes over. Meanwhile in Washington D.C., it is Inauguration Day where the outgoing President Noah Daniels is handing over the presidency to the first female president Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones). Hearing about the coup, Daniels wants to evacuate the country before it falls to the rogue general, while Taylor thinks otherwise. Elsewhere, Taylor's son Roger and his fiancée Samantha get wind of information from a friend about suspicious money transactions where he works at a local brokerage firm. But neither he or Roger are aware that a corrupt corporate mogul, Jonas Hodges, is plotting with General Juma to overthrow the government for monetary purposes and will do anything to keep his nefarious plans under wraps.

Alcázar of Seville
A royal palace. Renowned as one of the most beautiful in Spain. The oldest royal palace still in use in Europe. One of the best remaining examples of mudéjar architecture. The upper levels of the Alcázar are still used by the royal family as the official Seville residence.
Giralda
A former minaret that was converted to a bell tower for the Cathedral of Seville. The tower is 104.1 m in height and it was one of the most important symbols in the medieval city. The tower was begun under the architect Ahmad Ben Baso in 1184.
Plaza de España
A plaza located in the Parque de María Luisa. Built in 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. A landmark example of the Renaissance Revival style in Spanish architecture. Today the Plaza de España mainly consists of Government buildings.
Maria Luisa Park
A public park that stretches along the Guadalquivir River. It is Seville's principal green area. Most of the grounds that were used for the park were formerly the gardens of the Palace of San Telmo. They were donated to the city of Seville in 1893.
Seville Cathedral
A Roman Catholic cathedral. The largest Gothic cathedral and the third-largest church in the world. The largest cathedral in the world. The burial site of Christopher Columbus.
Metropol Parasol
A wooden structure located at La Encarnación square, in the old quarter. Was designed by the German architect Jürgen Mayer-Hermann and completed in April 2011. Has 150 by 70 metres and an height of 26 metres. Claims to be the largest wooden structure in the world.
Torre del Oro
A dodecagonal military watchtower. Constructed in the first third of the 13th century, the tower served as a prison during the Middle Ages. Its name comes from the golden shine it projected on the river, due to its building materials (a mixture of mortar, lime and pressed hay).
Costurero de la Reina

Each casita is essentially a private party with food, entertainment, and dancing. With its labyrinth of white alleys, Santa Cruz is the city’s old Jewish district and is located close to both the Real Alcazar and the Catedral. Grated windows, flowerpots on the walls and old wooden gates are typical of this area of the city that exemplifies the traditional Andalusian way of life. The Plaza De Toros and the seasonal hustle and bustle of its bullfights, dominates the El Arenal, the city’s former harbor district. Designed in the 18th century by Vicente San Martin, the bullfight arena was fully restored in the middle of the 19th century. La Giralda and the Patio de los Naranjos are the only remains of Sevilla´s Almohad Mosque. The rest of the temple was destroyed by the Christians. Construction began in 1401 and it became the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. After the Petersdom in Rome and St.Paul’s in London, it is the third largest Christian building in the world. With its rich cultural inheritance bequeathed by both the Moors and the Christians, Seville is a truly incredible city with a flamboyant way of life and fiery Latin temperament!

Seville, the capital of the Spanish community of Andalusia, is one of the oldest cities in Europe. Its architecture is a reflection of its tumultuous history with long spells of occupation by the Romans and later the Moors.
In the 16th century, after the reconquista by the Christians the city reached its Golden Age thanks to a monopoly on trade with the New World. Many of the city's magnificent landmarks such as the Cathedral, the Royal Alcazar and Golden Tower were built earlier, in the 13th and 14th centuries.

Seville, the capital of the Spanish community of Andalusia, is one of the oldest cities in Europe. Its architecture is a reflection of its tumultuous history with long spells of occupation by the Romans and later the Moors.
In the 16th century, after the reconquista by the Christians the city reached its Golden Age thanks to a monopoly on trade with the New World. Many of the city's magnificent landmarks such as the Cathedral, the Royal Alcazar and Golden Tower were built earlier, in the 13th and 14th centuries.

Along the Rio Guadalquivir is Córdoba. Today the former caliph’s residence of the Omaiyad is a lively city with an historic past. In 152 B.C. the town was founded during the rule of Claudius Marcellu and it was then that the Roman conquerors named it Corduba. Later the town became the capital of the province of Baetica, the hot southern region of Spain. At the beginning of the 8th century the town was the headquarters of its recent conquerors, Arabian governors and emirs and even today the architectural influence of the Moors is visible. In the 10th century A.D. the town reached the zenith of its prosperity. It is believed that almost a million people once lived in the ‘Mecca of the West’. The Great Mosque, today's Mezquita, was extended and enlarged during that time. Marble, jaspis and granite columns decorate the beautiful interior of the mosque that contains eight hundred columns. The old city of Granada extends across three hills, Sacromonte, the world famous Alhambra and Abaicín, a once densely populated Moorish district with almost thirty mosques. For several centuries around sixy thousand Moors brought the city’s maze of alleys to life but only a few of the historic Islamic buildings and mosques have survived. Seville is today’s pulsating capital of Andalucia and is still strongly influenced by the brilliant architectural achievements of the Moors. In former times the Real Alcázar was the residence of the region’s Arabic rulers but most of its buildings were constructed during the reign of Peter The Cruel. Casa De Pilatos is one of the most beautiful palatial buildings in Seville. The residence of the Dukes of Medinacelli was built between 1492 and 1520 following a pilgrimage by one of the dukes to the Holy Land. On his return journey, following the same route that the first Marqués of Tarifa took through Italy, he brought back several valuable columns and fountains made of carrara marble that today adorn the beautiful exterior and gardens of the residence. The shoreline of the Guadalquivir River in the land of flamenco is full of life and joie de vivre. The true heart of Spain surely lies in Andalusia in the hot southern region of the Iberian Peninsula.

Seville was founded as the Roman city of Hispalis, and was known as Ishbiliya after the Muslim conquest in 712. By chance we end up driving right by the main cathedral (partly visible), the Royal Alcazar and Spain's second oldest bullfighting ring.
