Amid the ruins of the destroyed Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp on the outskirts of the Syrian capital, Damascus, pianist Ayham al-Ahmad provided a rare glimmer of hope amid the devastation. Videos of him defiantly playing piano in the ruined streets of Yarmouk, accompanied by children and other residents of the camp, were widely shared online as a symbol of the camp's spirit of resistance. But now, Ayham al-Ahmad has had to join the millions who have fled Syria. He spoke to the BBC's Ian Pannell along each part of his route, explaining what eventually forced him to leave - and his perilous journey to Europe.

Islamic State militants enter the Palestinian refugee camp Yarmouk in the Syrian capital, seizing control of large areas, reports say. Clashes erupted between the militants and groups inside the camp, with IS seizing control of large parts of the camp, reports said.
The UN says about 18,000 Palestinian refugees are inside the camp.
IS militants have seized large swathes of territory in eastern Syria and across northern and western Iraq. Eyewitnesses and media reports said fighters had entered the camp from the neighbouring suburb of Hajar Aswad.

Al Yarmouk Camp, which was abandoned by its residents because of heavy shelling and hunger leaving a few of them to starve to death one after another, still has creative potentials. It still has life, and smile.
Al Yarmouk Youth Band calls children of Al Yarmouk in the voice of two young men and two little girls to return home. It's a wonderful song, and a beautiful attractive smile which brings hope from under the siege.

Al Yarmouk Camp, which was abandoned by its residents because of heavy shelling and hunger leaving a few of them to starve to death one after another, still has creative potentials. It still has life, and smile.
Al Yarmouk Youth Band calls children of Al Yarmouk in the voice of two young men and two little girls to return home. It's a wonderful song, and a beautiful attractive smile which brings hope from under the siege.

I am not certain of the date of this video. I understand that Aeham's piano was set of fire by Islamist militants in April 2015.
