Hovind established the Creation Science Evangelism ministry in 1989, and frequently spoke on young Earth creationism at seminars at private schools and churches, debates, and on radio and television broadcasts. Since January 2007, Hovind has been serving a ten-year prison sentence after being convicted of 58 federal counts, including 12 tax offenses, one count of obstructing federal agents, and 45 counts of structuring cash transactions. He is incarcerated at the FPC Satellite Camp of the ADX Florence prison in Florence, Colorado.
On February 9, 1969, at the age of 16, Hovind became a born again Christian. In 1971, he graduated from East Peoria Community High School. He holds three degrees in Christian education (1974, 1988, 1991) from unaccredited institutions. He is married and has three adult children and five grandchildren. One of his sons, Eric Hovind, travels doing creationist presentations and debates using many of his father's arguments.

One officer, the driver of the van that carted Gray away after his arrest, was charged with second-degree murder. Other charges against the six officers included manslaughter and assault. The prosecutor, Marilyn Mosby, said that the arrest of Gray was illegal.
"I assured his family that no one is above the law and that I would pursue justice on their behalf," she said at a press conference, where cheers went up when she announced the charges.
She said warrants were out for the officers' arrest, but she said she did not know whether they were yet in custody.
Gray, 25, was arrested April 12 and died a week later. His was the latest case in a national debate about police tactics. In Baltimore, dozens of people were arrested during civil unrest on Monday night, including riots, looting and fires.
Mosby said that Gray repeatedly asked for medical attention during his ride from the scene of his arrest to the booking site. The officers failed to get him any help, she said.
"A medic was finally called to the scene, where the medic determined that Mr. Gray was in cardiac arrest," she said.
Baltimore's police commissioner said Thursday that his department had handed over confidential information on how Gray died to prosecutors. Meanwhile, the Justice Department is also working on its own independent investigation.
Mosby said in Friday's news conference that her office had been investigating Gray's death independently of police's investigation.
"We knew that this was a serious case," she said. "From day one, we investigated. We're not just relying solely on what we were given by the police department."
The Baltimore police officers union sent a letter to Mosby coming to the defense of the six before she announced the charges.
"As tragic as this situation is, none of the officers involved are responsible for the death of Mr. Gray," Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 3 President Gene wrote. "To the contrary, at all times, each of the officers diligently balanced their obligations to protect Mr. Gray and discharge their duties to protect the public."
Mosby comes from five generations of police officers. She was sworn in as state's attorney in January after a surprise win in November, and spoke out against police brutality during her campaign.

Freddie Gray Investigation: Six Cops Charged in His Death
(NBC News) A Baltimore prosecutor announced criminal charges on Friday against six police officers in the arrest of Freddie Gray, whose death after suffering a spinal cord injury in police custody touched off riots.

One officer, the driver of the van that carted Gray away after his arrest, was charged with second-degree murder. Other charges against the six officers included manslaughter and assault. The prosecutor, Marilyn Mosby, said that the arrest of Gray was illegal.
"I assured his family that no one is above the law and that I would pursue justice on their behalf," she said at a press conference, where cheers went up when she announced the charges.
She said warrants were out for the officers' arrest, but she said she did not know whether they were yet in custody.
Gray, 25, was arrested April 12 and died a week later. His was the latest case in a national debate about police tactics. In Baltimore, dozens of people were arrested during civil unrest on Monday night, including riots, looting and fires.
Mosby said that Gray repeatedly asked for medical attention during his ride from the scene of his arrest to the booking site. The officers failed to get him any help, she said.
"A medic was finally called to the scene, where the medic determined that Mr. Gray was in cardiac arrest," she said.
Baltimore's police commissioner said Thursday that his department had handed over confidential information on how Gray died to prosecutors. Meanwhile, the Justice Department is also working on its own independent investigation.
Mosby said in Friday's news conference that her office had been investigating Gray's death independently of police's investigation.
"We knew that this was a serious case," she said. "From day one, we investigated. We're not just relying solely on what we were given by the police department."
The Baltimore police officers union sent a letter to Mosby coming to the defense of the six before she announced the charges.
"As tragic as this situation is, none of the officers involved are responsible for the death of Mr. Gray," Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 3 President Gene wrote. "To the contrary, at all times, each of the officers diligently balanced their obligations to protect Mr. Gray and discharge their duties to protect the public."
Mosby comes from five generations of police officers. She was sworn in as state's attorney in January after a surprise win in November, and spoke out against police brutality during her campaign.

50 THINGS TO DO IN NEW YORK CITY | Top Attractions Travel Guide
Our recent week in New York City was an action-packed one. We decided to set ourselves a challenge to see and do as much as we possibly could, and that gave way to this travel video guide which highlights 50 of the top attractions. In a city like New York this means we barely scratched the surface, but hopefully this video will highlight the cornucopia of possibilities that is the Big Apple.
We try our best to cover all of the top attractions including fine arts, entertainment, festivals, dining, architecture and museums as well as focusing on lesser known off the beaten path attractions to cover all forms of tourism. Most journeys begin at Penn Station or Grand Central, and if you arrive at the later you'll be wowed by the building. The Meatpacking District was once home to markets, slaughterhouses, and packaging plants, but times have changed. Today you'll find a mixture of trendy restaurants, clubs and boutiques. The Village used to be a bohemian neighborhood that drew artists and musicians, but today you're more likely to find upper middle class families living here. Completed in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Williamsburg has become popular given its lower rent prices. University students and young professionals have been flocking to this part of town.
You can walk along the riverfront for a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Manhattan skyline. During the summer months, Bryant Park also becomes a popular hangout spot people looking to relax and even work on their tans. The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge and this makes it really popular with visitors who want to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from a distance. Battery Park is located on the southern tip of Manhattan. Having both lived in South Korea, we were thrilled to come across Manhattan's own Little Korea. Coney Island is all about good old fashioned fun. You can ride roller coasters, stroll down the boardwalk, enjoy some beach time, and then head over the Nathan's Famous hot dogs. The Cloisters will make you feel like you've travelled over to Europe. Central Park is massive and there are so many places to visit within its boundaries. We managed to visit Belvedere Castle, the Great Lawn, Shakespeare Garden, The Ramble, The Jackie Onassis Reservoir, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and we still left feeling like we barely scratched the surface. Strawberry Fields is a section of Central Park dedicated to the memory of John Lennon.
And that concludes a look at our very busy week in New York City. I'm still shocked we managed to cover so many attractions, but the great thing about this city is that distances aren't very long and there's always something really cool worth checking out around each corner. In this travel video tour of Portland, Oregon, I travel to Portland, one of the most unique cities in the United States.
I started my trip off by hopping off a plane and then immediately hopping onto a bus. But not just any bus, a bus operated by Brewvana Brewery Tours, the mostly women-run craft beer brewery tour company. Portland, or know as Beervana to some, is home to 55 breweries within its borders, and is truly a beer-lover's paradise. On my tour we made stops at Rogue Ales & Spirits, Laurelwood Pubic House & Brewery, Widmer Brothers Brewery and Sidecar Bar, where I had the chance to sit down over a pint with the founder and owner of Brewvana, Ashley Rose Salvitti.
While in Portland, I stayed at the Tiny House Hotel, a hotel made up of, you guessed it, tiny houses. In the next portion of my video guide I give a tour of my "crib" to show what it's like to live and stay in a tiny house.
Then, in an effort to get a chance to experience the famed brunch scene in Portland, I stopped in at The Tin Shed Garden Cafe, located down the street from where I was staying in the New Alberta Arts District.
In the interest of learning more about food, I headed to the downtown location of the Portland Farmers Market, located in a beautiful stretch of downtown Portland. Here, I got a tour of the grounds with Mona Johnson, then had the opportunity to meet up with some of the vendors, including Matt Choi of Choi's Kimchi Company, and famed chef and artisanal pickle impresario, David Barber of Picklopolis and Bingo! Sandwiches.
In need of a little peace and serenity, I then visited the Lan Su Chinese Garden, a peaceful and beautiful oasis in an otherwise busy and hectic part of downtown.
When visiting Portland, there's no reason to spend all your time in the city, especially with so much to do outside the city limits. The next day I took a road trip with local Matthew Domingo to explore the Columbia River Gorge and the numerous trails and waterfalls just off the road you can check out.
Then, to wrap things up, we stopped in at Hood River Organic near the riverside town of Hood River, an organic orchard and farm run by East Coast ex-pat Dan Thall, who gave us a tour of his land. Once the day ended we then headed out to happy hour at Solera Brewery in the imposing shadow of Mount Hood and then into town for a dinner featuring mushroom pizza with mushrooms Dan had grown and recently delivered to the restaurant.

One year after a summit focused on heroin and opioid addiction, many of the participants came together to provide an update to the community on activity and progress that has been made since the summit.
The Cleveland Clinic and United States Attorney’s Office, together with many partners, hosted “Heroin: A Crisis Facing Our Entire Community.” The summit resulted in the formation of a working group and a community action that that looked at heroin and opioid abuse from the perspectives of the medical, treatment, prevention and law enforcement communities.
Among the developments since the Heroin and Opioid Summit:
Drop boxes for prescription pills now exist in most communities in Cuyahoga County, resulting in the collection of more than 13,000 pounds of pills.
House Bill 170 was signed into law, following testimony by some of the participants of the heroin summit. Project DAWN (Deaths Avoided With Naloxone) has nearly 1,000 registrants and documented nearly 100 reversals.
Cuyahoga County and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office provided money for a variety of regional cooperative law enforcement groups to purchase an initial supply of Naloxone for officer use.
Cleveland Police, the Cuyahoga County Sheriff and the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor developed investigative protocols so fatal heroin overdoses are now fully investigated and treated as crime scenes.
Three heroin cases have been prosecuted in federal court under a “death-specification” sentencing enhancement in cases that resulted in death. Sentences have ranged from 12 to 20 years in prison.
The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor has filed eight heroin-related manslaughter indictments since the summit.
Three physicians have been indicted in federal court of illegally dispensing tens of thousands of doses of prescription painkillers.
Members of the working group have participated in nearly 100 community, school or public events in the past year to raise awareness about the dangers posed by heroin and opioids, as well as extensive publicity campaigns undertaken by the ADAMHS Board and Cuyahoga County Prosecutor.
A second judge will be added to handle Cuyahoga County’s Drug Court docket.
Despite these efforts, heroin overdose remains a leading cause of death in Cuyahoga County, and deaths continue are expected to hover around 200 this year. That figure represents a nearly 400 percent increase from a decade ago. Police and prosecutors report a huge influx in both the availability of heroin and the number of heroin-related crimes.
The summit and subsequent working group includes representatives from the United States Attorney’s Office, the Cleveland Clinic, the Cuyahoga County Executive, the Ohio Attorney General, MetroHealth Medical Center, University Hospitals, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, the Cleveland Division of Police, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Ohio State Medical Board, the Ohio State Pharmacy Board, Cuyahoga County Board of Health, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner, the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor, the ADAMHS Board., the Westshore Enforcement Bureau and others.

Mexico's government is confirming that the United States filed an extradition request for drug lord Joaquin Guzman about two-and-a-half weeks before he escaped from Mexico's highest-security prison. The drug lord known as "El Chapo" sneaked out of the Altiplano prison through a tunnel on July 11.
The office of Attorney General's Arely Gomez issued a statement late Thursday saying she informed a congressional committee of the extradition request filed on June 25. Guzman faces U.S. charges of conspiracy to import and distribute cocaine.

Mexico Attorney General Says U.S. Drug Lord's Extradition Before Escape
Mexico's government is confirming that the United States filed an extradition request for drug lord Joaquin Guzman about two-and-a-half weeks before he escaped from Mexico's highest-security prison. The drug lord known as "El Chapo" sneaked out of the Altiplano prison through a tunnel on July 11.
The office of Attorney General's Arely Gomez issued a statement late Thursday saying she informed a congressional committee of the extradition request filed on June 25. Guzman faces U.S. charges of conspiracy to import and distribute cocaine.
The office said Gomez had issued instructions to review the request and submit it to courts for consideration.

The gunman in the Chattanooga military installation shooting has been identified as 24-year-old Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez.
He was believed to have been born in Kuwait, and it was unclear whether he was a U.S. or Kuwaiti citizen. The official who gave his identify was speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the ongoing, sensitive investigation. It was not immediately clear whether the gunman's first name was spelled Muhammad or Mohammad.
Abdulazeez is from Hixson, Tennessee, which is just a few miles across the river from Chattanooga. He was booked for a DUI in April 2015.
Police in Hixson kicked a reporter out of the neighborhood that contained a house apparently owned by Abdulazeez. The reporter saw a SWAT team and FBI agents staging at a nearby strip mall. The house, which Hamilton County records is owned by Youssuf S. Abdulazeez, is appraised at $206,100 by the Hamilton County Assessor of Property.
Police led two females out of the house in handcuffs, according to the Associated Press.

Preet Bharara, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and Diego Rodriguez, the Assistant Director-in-Charge of the New York Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”), announced today the unsealing of criminal charges against three New York City Correction Officers in the death of Ronald Spear, a pre-trial detainee at Rikers Island. BRIAN COLL, then a correction officer on Rikers Island, was charged with repeatedly kicking Mr. Spear in the head while he was fully restrained and lying prone on the floor, in violation of his rights under the United States Constitution. The two other officers involved in the incident, BYRON TAYLOR and ANTHONY TORRES, are, together with COLL, charged with obstruction of justice related offenses for covering up COLL’s assault, which resulted in the death of Mr. Spear. COLL and TAYLOR were arrested this morning on charges contained in a Criminal Complaint and are expected to be presented in federal court later today. TORRES ultimately disclosed the attempted cover-up to federal investigators and pled guilty to a Criminal Information earlier this week to obstruction of justice offenses, pursuant to a cooperation agreement with the Government.

Transcript: It is a beautiful time to be an American. Marriage is FINALLY a right extended to us all whether gay or straight. The march to progress isn't always fast, but it's always steady! Freedom and equality has won out. It is a sad day for those of you who prize the rights of the government (in this case - state governments) over those rights of its individual citizens. Let’s unpack that a bit. If you were trying to make a “state’s rights” stand, you believe strongly in the 10 amendment… which is… “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” Simply stated this means that if a power is not specifically granted to the federal government or specifically NOT granted to the States… it is for the states to possess. On the other side of this issue is the 14th Amendment which (in part) says, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” Now, that last part is the important part here. NOR DENY ANY PERSON WITHIN ITS JURISDICTION THE EQUAL PROTECTION OF THE LAWS. You see, in America, It matters not if you are filthy rich or dirt-poor or well-known or a nobody. We are all looked upon equally under the law and enjoy the same protection under our Constitution! So this is really a message to my fellow conservatives. To my fellow Americans with a healthy skepticism of the government and its power. Individual rights should always trump those of the government. If you take away the rights of the individual, the government will be powerless. Afterall, this is a government made up of “We The People,” is it not? All this brings us to where we are today. Texas State Attorney General KEN PAXTON is encouraging clerks and other state employees to refuse to issue marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples on the grounds that two gays or lesbians who are in love and choose to commit themselves to marriage violates their deeply held religious beliefs. Well, I hate to break it to you Texas State Employees. But, It isn’t in your purview to decide to issue licenses or not to. That would be like a postal worker refusing to deliver a playboy magazine or a porn video. It would be like a DMV employee not wanting to issue a driver’s license to someone who drives a beer delivery truck. If you are working in a secular position – DO YOUR JOB and leave your “DEEPLY HELD BIGOTED BELIEFS” OUT OF IT!

Transcript: It is a beautiful time to be an American. Marriage is FINALLY a right extended to us all whether gay or straight. The march to progress isn't always fast, but it's always steady! Freedom and equality has won out. It is a sad day for those of you who prize the rights of the government (in this case - state governments) over those rights of its individual citizens. Let’s unpack that a bit. If you were trying to make a “state’s rights” stand, you believe strongly in the 10 amendment… which is… “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” Simply stated this means that if a power is not specifically granted to the federal government or specifically NOT granted to the States… it is for the states to possess. On the other side of this issue is the 14th Amendment which (in part) says, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” Now, that last part is the important part here. NOR DENY ANY PERSON WITHIN ITS JURISDICTION THE EQUAL PROTECTION OF THE LAWS. You see, in America, It matters not if you are filthy rich or dirt-poor or well-known or a nobody. We are all looked upon equally under the law and enjoy the same protection under our Constitution! So this is really a message to my fellow conservatives. To my fellow Americans with a healthy skepticism of the government and its power. Individual rights should always trump those of the government. If you take away the rights of the individual, the government will be powerless. Afterall, this is a government made up of “We The People,” is it not? All this brings us to where we are today. Texas State Attorney General KEN PAXTON is encouraging clerks and other state employees to refuse to issue marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples on the grounds that two gays or lesbians who are in love and choose to commit themselves to marriage violates their deeply held religious beliefs. Well, I hate to break it to you Texas State Employees. But, It isn’t in your purview to decide to issue licenses or not to. That would be like a postal worker refusing to deliver a playboy magazine or a porn video. It would be like a DMV employee not wanting to issue a driver’s license to someone who drives a beer delivery truck. If you are working in a secular position – DO YOUR JOB and leave your “DEEPLY HELD BIGOTED BELIEFS” OUT OF IT!

Freddie Gray Investigation: Six Cops Charged in His Death
(NBC News) A Baltimore prosecutor announced criminal charges on Friday against six police officers in the arrest of Freddie Gray, whose death after suffering a spinal cord injury in police custody touched off riots.

One officer, the driver of the van that carted Gray away after his arrest, was charged with second-degree murder. Other charges against the six officers included manslaughter and assault. The prosecutor, Marilyn Mosby, said that the arrest of Gray was illegal.
"I assured his family that no one is above the law and that I would pursue justice on their behalf," she said at a press conference, where cheers went up when she announced the charges.
She said warrants were out for the officers' arrest, but she said she did not know whether they were yet in custody.
Gray, 25, was arrested April 12 and died a week later. His was the latest case in a national debate about police tactics. In Baltimore, dozens of people were arrested during civil unrest on Monday night, including riots, looting and fires.
Mosby said that Gray repeatedly asked for medical attention during his ride from the scene of his arrest to the booking site. The officers failed to get him any help, she said.
"A medic was finally called to the scene, where the medic determined that Mr. Gray was in cardiac arrest," she said.
Baltimore's police commissioner said Thursday that his department had handed over confidential information on how Gray died to prosecutors. Meanwhile, the Justice Department is also working on its own independent investigation.
Mosby said in Friday's news conference that her office had been investigating Gray's death independently of police's investigation.
"We knew that this was a serious case," she said. "From day one, we investigated. We're not just relying solely on what we were given by the police department."
The Baltimore police officers union sent a letter to Mosby coming to the defense of the six before she announced the charges.
"As tragic as this situation is, none of the officers involved are responsible for the death of Mr. Gray," Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 3 President Gene wrote. "To the contrary, at all times, each of the officers diligently balanced their obligations to protect Mr. Gray and discharge their duties to protect the public."
Mosby comes from five generations of police officers. She was sworn in as state's attorney in January after a surprise win in November, and spoke out against police brutality during her campaign.
"Police brutality is completely inexcusable. I'm going to apply justice fairly, even to those who wear a badge," she told the Baltimore Sun.
Mosby's husband, Nick Mosby, is a Baltimore city councilman who has spoken out about the riots. She said Friday she did not see this as presenting a conflict of interest. "I uphold the law, he makes the law," she said.

Our recent week in New York City was an action-packed one. We decided to set ourselves a challenge to see and do as much as we possibly could, and that gave way to this travel video guide which highlights 50 of the top attractions. In a city like New York this means we barely scratched the surface, but hopefully this video will highlight the cornucopia of possibilities that is the Big Apple.
We try our best to cover all of the top attractions including fine arts, entertainment, festivals, dining, architecture and museums as well as focusing on lesser known off the beaten path attractions to cover all forms of tourism. If you only have time to visit only one city in the United States it ought to be NYC, USA:

Most journeys begin at Penn Station or Grand Central, and if you arrive at the later you'll be wowed by the building. The Meatpacking District was once home to markets, slaughterhouses, and packaging plants, but times have changed. Today you'll find a mixture of trendy restaurants, clubs and boutiques. The Village used to be a bohemian neighborhood that drew artists and musicians, but today you're more likely to find upper middle class families living here. Completed in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Williamsburg has become popular given its lower rent prices. University students and young professionals have been flocking to this part of town.
You can walk along the riverfront for a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Manhattan skyline. During the summer months, Bryant Park also becomes a popular hangout spot people looking to relax and even work on their tans. The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge and this makes it really popular with visitors who want to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from a distance. Battery Park is located on the southern tip of Manhattan. Having both lived in South Korea, we were thrilled to come across Manhattan's own Little Korea. Coney Island is all about good old fashioned fun. You can ride roller coasters, stroll down the boardwalk, enjoy some beach time, and then head over the Nathan's Famous hot dogs. The Cloisters will make you feel like you've travelled over to Europe. Central Park is massive and there are so many places to visit within its boundaries. We managed to visit Belvedere Castle, the Great Lawn, Shakespeare Garden, The Ramble, The Jackie Onassis Reservoir, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and we still left feeling like we barely scratched the surface. Strawberry Fields is a section of Central Park dedicated to the memory of John Lennon.
And that concludes a look at our very busy week in New York City. I'm still shocked we managed to cover so many attractions, but the great thing about this city is that distances aren't very long and there's always something really cool worth checking out around each corner. One year after a summit focused on heroin and opioid addiction, many of the participants came together to provide an update to the community on activity and progress that has been made since the summit.
The Cleveland Clinic and United States Attorney’s Office, together with many partners, hosted “Heroin: A Crisis Facing Our Entire Community.” The summit resulted in the formation of a working group and a community action that that looked at heroin and opioid abuse from the perspectives of the medical, treatment, prevention and law enforcement communities.
Among the developments since the Heroin and Opioid Summit:
Drop boxes for prescription pills now exist in most communities in Cuyahoga County, resulting in the collection of more than 13,000 pounds of pills.
House Bill 170 was signed into law, following testimony by some of the participants of the heroin summit. Project DAWN (Deaths Avoided With Naloxone) has nearly 1,000 registrants and documented nearly 100 reversals.
Cuyahoga County and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office provided money for a variety of regional cooperative law enforcement groups to purchase an initial supply of Naloxone for officer use.
Cleveland Police, the Cuyahoga County Sheriff and the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor developed investigative protocols so fatal heroin overdoses are now fully investigated and treated as crime scenes.
Three heroin cases have been prosecuted in federal court under a “death-specification” sentencing enhancement in cases that resulted in death. Sentences have ranged from 12 to 20 years in prison.
The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor has filed eight heroin-related manslaughter indictments since the summit.
Three physicians have been indicted in federal court of illegally dispensing tens of thousands of doses of prescription painkillers.
Members of the working group have participated in nearly 100 community, school or public events in the past year to raise awareness about the dangers posed by heroin and opioids, as well as extensive publicity campaigns undertaken by the ADAMHS Board and Cuyahoga County Prosecutor.
A second judge will be added to handle Cuyahoga County’s Drug Court docket.
Despite these efforts, heroin overdose remains a leading cause of death in Cuyahoga County, and deaths continue are expected to hover around 200 this year. That figure represents a nearly 400 percent increase from a decade ago. Police and prosecutors report a huge influx in both the availability of heroin and the number of heroin-related crimes.
The summit and subsequent working group includes representatives from the United States Attorney’s Office, the Cleveland Clinic, the Cuyahoga County Executive, the Ohio Attorney General, MetroHealth Medical Center, University Hospitals, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, the Cleveland Division of Police, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Ohio State Medical Board, the Ohio State Pharmacy Board, Cuyahoga County Board of Health, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner, the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor, the ADAMHS Board., the Westshore Enforcement Bureau and others.

Mexico Attorney General Says U.S. Drug Lord's Extradition Before Escape
Mexico's government is confirming that the United States filed an extradition request for drug lord Joaquin Guzman about two-and-a-half weeks before he escaped from Mexico's highest-security prison. The drug lord known as "El Chapo" sneaked out of the Altiplano prison through a tunnel on July 11.
The office of Attorney General's Arely Gomez issued a statement late Thursday saying she informed a congressional committee of the extradition request filed on June 25. Guzman faces U.S. charges of conspiracy to import and distribute cocaine.
The office said Gomez had issued instructions to review the request and submit it to courts for consideration.

U S Attorney says today 'is a sad day for the United States'
The gunman in the Chattanooga military installation shooting has been identified as 24-year-old Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez.
He was believed to have been born in Kuwait, and it was unclear whether he was a U.S. or Kuwaiti citizen. The official who gave his identify was speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the ongoing, sensitive investigation. It was not immediately clear whether the gunman's first name was spelled Muhammad or Mohammad.
Abdulazeez is from Hixson, Tennessee, which is just a few miles across the river from Chattanooga. He was booked for a DUI in April 2015.
Police in Hixson kicked a reporter out of the neighborhood that contained a house apparently owned by Abdulazeez. The reporter saw a SWAT team and FBI agents staging at a nearby strip mall. The house, which Hamilton County records is owned by Youssuf S. Abdulazeez, is appraised at $206,100 by the Hamilton County Assessor of Property.
Police led two females out of the house in handcuffs, according to the Associated Press.

MANHATTAN U.S. ATTORNEY CHARGES 3 CORRECTION OFFICERS IN BEATING DEATH OF INMATE AT RIKERS ISLAND
Preet Bharara, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and Diego Rodriguez, the Assistant Director-in-Charge of the New York Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”), announced today the unsealing of criminal charges against three New York City Correction Officers in the death of Ronald Spear, a pre-trial detainee at Rikers Island. BRIAN COLL, then a correction officer on Rikers Island, was charged with repeatedly kicking Mr. Spear in the head while he was fully restrained and lying prone on the floor, in violation of his rights under the United States Constitution. The two other officers involved in the incident, BYRON TAYLOR and ANTHONY TORRES, are, together with COLL, charged with obstruction of justice related offenses for covering up COLL’s assault, which resulted in the death of Mr. Spear. COLL and TAYLOR were arrested this morning on charges contained in a Criminal Complaint and are expected to be presented in federal court later today. TORRES ultimately disclosed the attempted cover-up to federal investigators and pled guilty to a Criminal Information earlier this week to obstruction of justice offenses, pursuant to a cooperation agreement with the Government.

Transcript: It is a beautiful time to be an American. Marriage is FINALLY a right extended to us all whether gay or straight. The march to progress isn't always fast, but it's always steady! Freedom and equality has won out. It is a sad day for those of you who prize the rights of the government (in this case - state governments) over those rights of its individual citizens. Let’s unpack that a bit. If you were trying to make a “state’s rights” stand, you believe strongly in the 10 amendment… which is… “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” Simply stated this means that if a power is not specifically granted to the federal government or specifically NOT granted to the States… it is for the states to possess. On the other side of this issue is the 14th Amendment which (in part) says, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” Now, that last part is the important part here. NOR DENY ANY PERSON WITHIN ITS JURISDICTION THE EQUAL PROTECTION OF THE LAWS. You see, in America, It matters not if you are filthy rich or dirt-poor or well-known or a nobody. We are all looked upon equally under the law and enjoy the same protection under our Constitution! So this is really a message to my fellow conservatives. To my fellow Americans with a healthy skepticism of the government and its power. Individual rights should always trump those of the government. If you take away the rights of the individual, the government will be powerless. Afterall, this is a government made up of “We The People,” is it not? All this brings us to where we are today. Texas State Attorney General KEN PAXTON is encouraging clerks and other state employees to refuse to issue marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples on the grounds that two gays or lesbians who are in love and choose to commit themselves to marriage violates their deeply held religious beliefs. Well, I hate to break it to you Texas State Employees. But, It isn’t in your purview to decide to issue licenses or not to. That would be like a postal worker refusing to deliver a playboy magazine or a porn video. It would be like a DMV employee not wanting to issue a driver’s license to someone who drives a beer delivery truck. If you are working in a secular position – DO YOUR JOB and leave your “DEEPLY HELD BIGOTED BELIEFS” OUT OF IT!
