Filmmaker John Landis remembers TO CATCH A THIEF The mid-50s French Riviera provides an attractive backdrop to one of Hitchcock's lightest thrillers, with reformed cat burglar Cary Grant romancing a dazzling Grace Kelly, a spoiled rich girl whose Edith Head-designed clothes budget could bankroll several small countries for a year. Gjon Mili
Gjon Mili
Gjon Mili (born 1904, Korça, Albania 1984) was an Albanian-American photographer. Born to Vasil Mili and Viktori Cekani, came to the United States in 1923. Fifteen years later, he was a photographer for Life (a relationship that continued until his death in 1984), and his assignments took him to the Riviera (Picasso); to Prades, France (Pablo Casals in exile); to Israel (Adolf Eichmann in captivity); to Florence, Athens, Dublin, Berlin, Venice, Rome, and Hollywood to photograph celebrities and artists, sports events, and concerts, and sculptures and architecture. Working with Harold Eugene Edgerton of MIT, Gjon Mili was a pioneer since the 1930s in the use of photoflash to capture a sequence of actions in one photograph. Trained as an engineer and self-taught in photography, Gjon Mili was the first to use electronic flash and stroboscopic light to create photographs that had more than scientific interest.[citation needed] Since the late 1930s, his pictures of dance, athletics, and musical and theatrical performances have astonished and delighted viewers,[citation needed] revealing the beautiful intricacy and graceful flow of movement too rapid or too complex for the eye to discern. His portraits of artists, musicians, and other notables are less visually spectacular, but equally masterful. In 1944, he directed the short film Jammin' the Blues,[1][2] which was made at Warner Bros., and featured performances by Lester Young, Red Callendar, Harry Edison, "Big" Sid Catlett ...

Outro destaque é o desempenho de Doris Day. Nas cenas da Embaixada, ao cantar a música ganhadora do Oscar, (Que será, será), enquanto o marido tenta localizar o filho seqüestrado, contribui para o aumento da tensão exigida pela trama. A fotografia de Robert Burks também merece menção, Minimalista e segura. Sem duvida este filme é diversão garantida. Suspense, ação, aventura e diversão, do inicio ao fim. Novamente Hitchcock faz mais uma intriga internacional fenomenal.

Canadian man drives with dead wife in car
Canadian man drives with dead wife in car
Authorities say a British Columbia man drove about 225 miles after his 75-year-old wife died in the car next to him, uncertain whether he could cross the Canadian border with her. Tonasket Police Chief Robert Burks says the 71-year-old man didn't know what to do, so he kept driving. The man was vacationing in Oregon when his wife began suffering a medical condition. They were trying to get home to Oliver, BC, but she died near Pasco, Wash. The Wenatchee World (bit.ly ) reports the man on Sunday called the vehicle emergency system, OnStar, which put him in touch with dispatchers in Okanogan County. A dispatcher convinced him to stop at the Tonasket police station, about 20 miles south of Canada. Burks says the woman was taken to North Valley Hospital and pronounced dead. He says police determined her death wasn't suspicious. ___

All Points South - Treat Me Bad (Chipmunk Version)
All Points South was a band that my Mom's current husband, Robert Burks, was involved in during 2003. They released an album titled "Road Of Resistance," of which Treat Me Bad was one of the tracks. I thought it would be funny to try a little tweaking of this song, and here is the end result.

Pinetop Burks - Shake The Shack
Pinetop Burks - Shake The Shack
Texas was as rich in piano blues as Mississippi was in guitar blues, which is not to say that there were no great blues guitarists in Texas, or piano men in Mississippi. A cursory glance through the discographies will emphasize the fact that a remarkable number of blues pianists came from Texas. They can be grouped into schools, characterized by certain similarities of style and approach, that were partly a reflection of the environments in which they worked, of their friendships and associations with other pianists, and by the isolation of Texas from other states. One school was the so-called Santa Fe group who were based in the southwestern part of the state where the cities of Galveston, Houston and Richmond lie. Here was where the music thrived and pianists could be found like Pinetop Burks, Son Becky, Rob Cooper, Black Boy Shine, Andy Boy, Big Boy Knox, Robert Shaw, Buster Pickens and the singers who worked with them like Walter Cowboy Washington and Joe Pullum. The other important school was a cluster of pianists and singers based in Dallas such as Alex Moore, Texas Bill Day, Neal Roberts Willie Tyson, and singer Billiken Johnson.
