I wrote this column on what was yet another overcast, cold, wet day ... Some big pink ones I've seen are, to use a bit of hyperbole, breathtaking ... The return of the ospreys ... It's a prickly pear cactus (Opuntia humifusa) that's native to Pennsylvania and the Northeast, although it looks like it should be growing in the desert ... The pads and fruit of this opuntia species are edible, which is why it's also called Indian fig or devil's tongue ... ....
