Malabar rebellion
The Malabar rebellion (also known as the "Moplah Rebellion", "മാപ്പിള ലഹള" Māppila Lahaḷa in Malayalam) was an armed uprising in 1921 against British authority and Hindu landlords in the Malabar region of Southern India by Mappila Muslims and the culmination of a series of Mappila revolts that recurred throughout the 19th century and early 20th century. The 1921 rebellion began as a reaction against a heavy-handed crackdown on the Khilafat Movement by the British authorities in the Eranad and Valluvanad taluks of Malabar. In the initial stages, a number of minor clashes took place between Khilafat volunteers and the police, but the violence soon spread across the region. The Mappilas attacked and took control of police stations, British government offices, courts and government treasuries. The largely kudiyaan (tenant) Mappilas also attacked and killed jenmi (landlords) of the Hindu Nair and Brahmin Nambudiri castes. In the later stages of the uprising, Mappilas committed several atrocities against the Hindu community, who they accused of helping the police to suppress their rebellion.Annie Besant reported that Muslim Mappilas forcibly converted many Hindus and killed or drove away all Hindus who would not apostatise, totalling to one lakh (100,000).

The language of the video is Hindi. Moplah Rebellion denotes the class struggle of peasant Moplahs against the British Officers and High Class Hindu Landlords of the Northern Malabar Kerala. Moplah rebellion was against the Jenmis and it has been waged since 1836. The Moplahs were the descendants of the Arab Traders who came to India via Arabian Sea Route in 9th century AD. The project of wholesale distortions of the history of medieval Muslim atrocities in India ranks as one of the greatest subversions of the Hindu psyche. However, what does it show when even a comparatively recent event like the barbaric genocide of Hindus in Malabar at the hands of Moplah Muslims is whitewashed and more or less buried? Most of our history textbooks and other texts simply refer to this horrific mass murder merely as a "rebellion." This lecture attempts to dig out the real facts of this tragic genocide using primary sources and eyewitness reports and other material to expose the real truth behind the mass murder of Malabar Hindus.

The project of wholesale distortions of the history of medieval Muslim atrocities in India ranks as one of the greatest subversions of the Hindu psyche. However, what does it show when even a comparatively recent event like the barbaric genocide of Hindus in Malabar at the hands of Moplah Muslims is whitewashed and more or less buried? Most of our history textbooks and other texts simply refer to this horrific mass murder merely as a "rebellion." This lecture attempts to dig out the real facts of this tragic genocide using primary sources and eyewitness reports and other material to expose the real truth behind the mass murder of Malabar Hindus.

Sandeep Balakrishna is a veteran writer, author, editor, speaker, columnist and independent researcher for about 20 years writing on Indian Philosophy, Literature, Indian History, Temples, and Indian Culture. He writes in both English and Kannada. The language of the video is Hindi. Moplah Rebellion denotes the class struggle of peasant Moplahs against the British Officers and High Class Hindu Landlords of the Northern Malabar Kerala. Moplah rebellion was against the Jenmis and it has been waged since 1836. The Moplahs were the descendants of the Arab Traders who came to India via Arabian Sea Route in 9th century AD. Malabar rebellion
The Malabar rebellion (also known as the "Moplah Rebellion", "മാപ്പിള ലഹള" Māppila Lahaḷa in Malayalam) was an armed uprising in 1921 against British authority and Hindu landlords in the Malabar region of Southern India by Mappila Muslims and the culmination of a series of Mappila revolts that recurred throughout the 19th century and early 20th century. The 1921 rebellion began as a reaction against a heavy-handed crackdown on the Khilafat Movement by the British authorities in the Eranad and Valluvanad taluks of Malabar. In the initial stages, a number of minor clashes took place between Khilafat volunteers and the police, but the violence soon spread across the region. The Mappilas attacked and took control of police stations, British government offices, courts and government treasuries. The largely kudiyaan (tenant) Mappilas also attacked and killed jenmi (landlords) of the Hindu Nair and Brahmin Nambudiri castes. In the later stages of the uprising, Mappilas committed several atrocities against the Hindu community, who they accused of helping the police to suppress their rebellion.Annie Besant reported that Muslim Mappilas forcibly converted many Hindus and killed or drove away all Hindus who would not apostatise, totalling to one lakh (100,000).
