Chellanam formed the southern border of the pre-colonial Kingdom of Cochin. At one time, there was a police station called "chouki" at the southwest end of the forest, where policemen guarded shipments transported through the canal and collected the tariffs on goods brought into the country.
On May 24, 2010 residents of Maruvakad, staying near Thiruhridaya Chapel, just 100 meters from Velankanni Matha Pilgrim Center; dug an old well which is to be believed that, it was built and used by Dutch Army around 200 years ago.
This will help and will be a new resource for drinking water. Water is the most precious element for the people of Chellanam. The story of chellanam goes like this: The Maharaja of kochi had a marine fleet which had a captain named Mr. Thobias Cappithan. When he won a battle he was presented with a piece of land called "chellavanam". It was a vanam (forest) then which normally nobody goes to but he and his family settled there. He had three sons; one stayed near a cross statue later his descendants came to be known as Kurisingal family, another stayed at Valiyaparambu and became Valyaparambu family, and the third son who stayed near "Kalam" became Kalathumkal family. Chellavanam now is called Chellanam.

Bangalore is known as the Silicon valley of India because of it's role as the nations leading Information Technology (IT). I have enjoyed my one night stay at Bengaluru & should say that I have fallen in love with the climate of the state. I will definitely visit Bengaluru back some time in future.

Cochin Port is a major port on the Arabian Sea – Indian Ocean sea-route and is one of the largest ports in India. The port lies on two islands in the Lake of Kochi: Willingdon Island and Vallarpadam, towards the Fort Kochi river mouth opening onto the Arabian Sea. The International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT), part of the Cochin Port, is the largest container transshipment facility in India.
The port is governed by the Cochin Port Trust (CPT), a government of India establishment. The modern port was established in 1926 and has completed 86 years of active service.
The Kochi Port is one of a line of maritime-related facilities based in the port-city of Kochi. The others are the Cochin Shipyard, the largest shipbuilding as well as maintenance facility in India; the SPM (single point mooring) facility of the Kochi Refineries, an offshore crude carrier mooring facility; and the Kochi Marina.
The Cochin port was formed naturally due to the great floods of Periyar in 1341 AD, which choked the Muziris port (near present-day Kodungallur), one of the greatest ports in ancient world. Ever since, Cochin became one of the major ports with extensive trading relations Romans, Greeks and Arabs, all lured by the traditional spice wealth of the state. The port further attracted European colonialists like Portuguese, Dutch and finally British who extended their supremacy over the Kingdom of Cochin and the port city of Fort Kochi. The traditional port was near Mattancherry (which still continues as Mattancherry Wharf).
Cochin Port Trust is an autonomous body under the government of India and is managed by Board of Trustees constituted by the government. The board is headed by the chairman who acts as the chief executive officer. The government may from time to time nominate the trustees in the Board representing various interests.

I have enjoyed my one night stay at Bengaluru & should say that I have fallen in love with the climate of the state. I will definitely visit Bengaluru back some time in future. Chellanam formed the southern border of the pre-colonial Kingdom of Cochin. At one time, there was a police station called "chouki" at the southwest end of the forest, where policemen guarded shipments transported through the canal and collected the tariffs on goods brought into the country.
On May 24, 2010 residents of Maruvakad, staying near Thiruhridaya Chapel, just 100 meters from Velankanni Matha Pilgrim Center; dug an old well which is to be believed that, it was built and used by Dutch Army around 200 years ago.
This will help and will be a new resource for drinking water. Water is the most precious element for the people of Chellanam. The story of chellanam goes like this: The Maharaja of kochi had a marine fleet which had a captain named Mr. Thobias Cappithan. When he won a battle he was presented with a piece of land called "chellavanam". It was a vanam (forest) then which normally nobody goes to but he and his family settled there. He had three sons; one stayed near a cross statue later his descendants came to be known as Kurisingal family, another stayed at Valiyaparambu and became Valyaparambu family, and the third son who stayed near "Kalam" became Kalathumkal family. Chellavanam now is called Chellanam.
