Para la mayoría de las denominaciones cristianas, es el Hijo de Dios y, por extensión, la encarnación de Dios mismo. Su importancia estriba asimismo en la creencia de que ―con su muerte y posterior resurrección― redimió al género humano. El judaísmo niega su divinidad, que es incompatible con su concepción de Dios. En el islam, donde se lo conoce como Isa, es considerado uno de los profetas más importantes. Según la opinión mayoritariamente aceptada en medios académicos, basada en una lectura crítica de los textos sobre su figura,1 Jesús de Nazaret fue un predicador judío2 que vivió a comienzos del siglo I en las regiones de Galilea y Judea, y fue crucificado en Jerusalén en torno al año 30, bajo el gobierno de Poncio Pilato. Lo que se conoce de Jesús depende casi exclusivamente de la tradición cristiana (aunque se le menciona en fuentes no cristianas),3 especialmente de la utilizada para la composición de los Evangelios sinópticos, redactados ―según opinión mayoritaria― unos 30 o 40 años, como mínimo, después de la muerte de Jesús. La mayoría de los estudiosos considera que mediante el estudio de los Evangelios es posible reconstruir tradiciones que se remontan a contemporáneos de Jesús, aunque existen grandes discrepancias entre los investigadores en cuanto a los métodos de análisis de los textos y las conclusiones que de ellos pueden extraerse. Existe una minoría que niega la existencia histórica de Jesús de Nazaret.1 Los evangelios narran las siguientes curaciones milagrosas obradas por Jesús: Sanó la fiebre de la suegra de Pedro, en su casa en Cafarnaúm, tomándola de la mano (Mc 1,29-31; Mt 5,14-15; Lc 4,38-39); Sanó a un leproso galileo mediante la palabra y el contacto de su mano (Mc 1,40-45; Mt 8,1-4; Lc 5,12-16); Sanó a un paralítico en Cafarnaúm que le fue presentado en una camilla y al que había perdonado sus pecados, ordenándole que se levantara y se fuera a su casa (Mc 2, 1-12; Mt 9,1-8; Lc 5,17-26); Sanó a un hombre con la mano seca en sábado en una sinagoga, mediante la palabra (Mc 3,1-6; Mt 12,9-14;Lc 6,6-11); Sanó a una mujer que padecía flujo de sangre, que sanó al tocar el vestido de Jesús (Mc 5,25-34; Mt 9,18-26; Lc 8,40-56); Sanó a un sordomudo en la Decápolis metiéndole los dedos en los oídos, escupiendo, tocándole la lengua y diciendo: «Effatá», que significaría ‘ábrete’ (Mc 7,31-37); Sanó a un ciego en Betsaida poniéndole saliva en los ojos e imponiéndole las manos (Mc 8,22-26); Sanó a Bartimeo, el ciego de Jericó (Mt 20,29-34; Mc 10,46-52; Lc 18,35-45); Sanó a distancia al criado del centurión de Cafarnaúm (Mt 8,5-13, Lc 7,1-10, Jn 4,43-54; Jn 4,43-54);28 Sanó a una mujer que estaba encorvada y no podía enderezarse, mediante la palabra y la imposición de manos (Lc 13,10-17). Esta curación tuvo lugar también en sábado y en una sinagoga; Sanó a un hidrópico en sábado, en casa de uno de los principales fariseos (Lc 14, 1-6). This mini-series has been around for 36 years, but it never fails to totally captivate and spellbind, regardless of how many times I have seen it before. I must confess, though, I rarely sit through the torture and crucifixion of Jesus in any of these movies. IMHO, Robert Powell's portrayal of Jesus Christ is by far, without question, the most superb and exudes what I personally perceive to be the true essence of Jesus. Mr. Powell's depiction of Jesus projects an aura of Divine Presence and is an extraordinary performance which remains unrivaled to this day. There are now scores of movies on the life of Jesus, and still more are planned; but as yet, no performance has been as moving to me as that of Robert Powell's. Although JESUS OF NAZARETH featured many renowned actors and actresses, without the talents of Mr. Powell and those intense, soul-piercing blue eyes, it would have been just another in the long line of movies about Jesus. Ehrman about his book "Did Jesus Exist? The Historical Argument for Jesus of Nazareth" on April 01, 2012. "I wanted to approach this question as an historian to see whether that's right or not," Ehrman tells weekends on All Things Considered host Guy Raz. The answer is straightforward and widely accepted among scholars of all faiths, but Ehrman says there is a large contingent of people claiming that Jesus never did exist. These people are also known as mythicists. "It was a surprise to me to see how influential these mythicists are," Ehrman says. "Historically, they've been significant and in the Soviet Union, in fact, the mythicist view was the dominant view, and even today, in some parts of the West – in parts of Scandinavia — it is a dominant view that Jesus never existed," he says. In his book, Ehrman marshals all of the evidence proving the existence of Jesus, including the writings of the apostle Paul. All of these were fulfilled in Christ and they establish a solid confirmation of His credentials as the Messiah. Larry Wessels, director of Christian Answers of Austin, Texas/ Christian Debater (YouTube channel CANSWERSTV, is joined in studio by Steve Morrison, Ph.D, (websites: & for an analysis of this vital subject. That Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah can be verified by the fact that He had 456 prophetic identifying characteristics mentioned in the Old Testament hundreds of years in advance & He fulfilled them all! What does the science of probability make of this? Professor Emeritus of Science at Westmont College, Peter Stoner, has calculated the probability of one man fulfilling the major prophecies made concerning the Messiah. The estimates were worked out by twelve different classes representing some 600 university students. The students carefully weighed all the factors, discussed each prophecy at length, and examined the various circumstances which might indicate that men had conspired together to fulfill a particular prophecy. They made their estimates conservative enough so that there was finally unanimous agreement even among the most skeptical students. However Professor Stoner then took their estimates, and made them even more conservative. Finally, he submitted his figures for review to a committee of the American Scientific Affiliation. Upon examination, they verified that his calculations were dependable and accurate in regard to the scientific material presented (Peter Stoner, Science Speaks, Chicago: Moody Press, 1969, 4). For example, concerning Micah 5:2, where it states the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem Ephrathah, Stoner and his students determined the average population of BETHLEHEM from the time of Micah to the present; then they divided it by the average population of the earth during the same period. They concluded that the chance of one man being born in Bethlehem was one in 300,000, (or one in 2.8 x 10^5 - rounded), After examining only eight different prophecies (Idem, 106), they conservatively estimated that the ch

The son of Jack MacArthur and fifth cousin of U.S. General Douglas MacArthur,[8] John MacArthur attended Bob Jones University before transferring to Los Angeles Pacific College (now Azusa Pacific University). He later obtained his Masters of Divinity from Biola University's Talbot Theological Seminary, in La Mirada, California. He graduated with honors. From 1964 to 1966, he served as an associate pastor at Calvary Bible Church, in Burbank, California and, from 1966 to 1969, as a faculty representative for Talbot Theological Seminary. Then, in 1969, he became the third pastor in the then-short history of the nondenominational Grace Community Church of Sun Valley, California.[9] His daily radio program, Grace to You, which is now broadcast throughout much of the world, began as an audio recording ministry to provide cassettes of his sermons to listeners. They were first broadcast in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1977.[10] In 1985, MacArthur became the president of The Master's College (formerly Los Angeles Baptist College), an accredited, four-year, liberal arts Christian college;[11] and, in 1986, he founded The Master's Seminary. MacArthur also received an honorary doctorate from Talbot Theological Seminary[12] and an honorary doctorate from Grace Graduate School.[13] Nearly 43 years after beginning in the pulpit of Grace Community, MacArthur completed one his own life goals[1] of preaching through the entire New Testament on June 5, 2011,[14] at the end of his projected target window, stated the previous January, to finish "some time in the summer."[1] During the same interview, MacArthur projected he would complete his commentary series within another five years, some 35 years after beginning. MacArthur is married to Patricia and they have four children and fifteen grandchildren.

Deists believed in God but denied that he was active in the history of Israel or in the person of Jesus of Nazareth. The Deist debate exploded in Britain around 1700. Deism developed from the "Scientific Revolution" in the 17th century and then became the philosophical basis of Critical Liberal Theology, which broke the tie between Western academic theology and Christian theism. Deism was the isthmus between the continents of theism and atheism and developed into one-way traffic from theism to atheism during the 18th century. However, in 2005 Antony Flew, probably the most eminent atheist philosopher of the 20th century, converted from atheism to deism before his death. Is this the beginning of the reversal of flow across the isthmus of deism? Leonard Long provides an overview of the deist debate in Britain and show its relevance to our current situation. It should help us to understand our history and the forces that have affected our culture.
