Vienna (/viːˈɛnə/; German: Wien (help·info)[viːn]) is the capital and largest city of Austria and one of the nine states of Austria. Vienna is Austria's primary city, with a population of about 1.723 million (2.4 million within the metropolitan area, more than 25% of Austria's population), and is by far the largest city in Austria, as well as its cultural, economic, and political centre. It is the 9th-largest city by population in the European Union. Until the beginning of the 20th century it was the largest German speaking city in the world, and before the first world war and the splitting of the Austro-Hungarian empire the city had 2 million inhabitants. Vienna is host to many major international organizations, including the United Nations and OPEC. The city lies in the east of Austria and is close to the borders of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary. These regions work together in a European Centrope border region. Along with nearby Bratislava, Vienna forms a metropolitan region with 3 million inhabitants. In 2001, the city centre was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Abstract:
On line monitoring of enzyme catalyzed reactions by in situ 1H NMR is a valuable approach to gain data about kinetics and mechanisms of biotransformations. In addition Saturation Transfer Difference NMR spectroscopy (STD NMR) can be used as time efficient method to study comprehensive mapping of enzyme/substrate interactions in global as well as in site-specific fashion. The resulting binding patterns represent a molecular foundation of specific substrate, co-substrate, and co-enzyme binding to an enzyme. These interactions are determined during catalysis as well as under binding-only conditions. The STD NMR technique is hence applied to delineate non-covalent enzyme/ligand interactions of several wild type enzymes as well as corresponding mutant enzyme variants.
Combination of both STD and in situ 1H NMR techniques allows comprehensive studies of mechanistic details, which can be supported and visualized by in silico molecular docking. The gained results can be correlated with macroscopic features like substrate specificity and catalytic activity (kcat). Transformations catalyzed by varying enzymes like phosphorylases [E.C.2.4.1.X], UDP-xylose synthase [E.C.4.1.1.35], and xylose reductase [E.C.1.1.1.21] are exemplary investigated.
The NADH dependent Candida tenuis xylose reductase (CtXR) catalyzed reductions are of particular interest due to formation of ternary enzyme/co-enzyme/substrate complexes. Studying transformations of natural substrates, artificial substrate analogues, and not accepted compounds allows conclusions how this enzyme uses non covalent interactions to bind and transform its substrates. An application of CtXR for the stereoselective formation of pharmaceutical active compounds indicates the meaning of the presented NMR concept for synthetic approaches in the field of green chemistry.

One hundred years ago, this glittering city gave birth to an artistic and cultural revolution. It was a revolution that changed the future and secured forever, Vienna’s place as one of the world’s great cities.
Free thinking flourished in its cafe’s and new ideas in music, and philosophy became embedded in its cobblestones.
Today, visitors flock to Vienna, to experience a dynamic art culture, s

Vienna is a city of music and the arts, where the compositions of Haydn and Mozart ar as alive today as the melodies of the Strauss family or ’sramli’ music. From among the many sights of the ’imperial city’ the Hofburg, Schönbrunn and Belvedere stand out, but we can not forget the City Hall, the Stephansdom, or the Kunsthistorische Museum either. The ferris-wheel of the Prater, the buildings of Hundertwasser and the Danube Tower show us the modern side of the city. A visit to Vienna would not be full without a coach trip or a wine tour in Grinzing. The imposing streets fulfil us with the atmosphere of the Monarchy, while in the cafes we can

It was under the supervision of Maria Theresia that the magnificent royal residence, the Schönbrunn Palace, was completed. More than 1,700 beautifully-preserved rooms afforded the large Imperial family much freedom of movement and its magnificent int

Vienna is the capital of Austria, in Central Europe. It is an ancient fortress city that lies nestled on the eastern fringe of the Alps, on the banks of the Danube River.
Today, visitors flock to Vienna, to experience a dynamic art culture, set amidst
historic streets where strauss’ waltzes still seem to echo. They come to drink coffee where some of the world’s greatest thinkers spent time and enjoy some of the world’s most magnificent artworks.
Join locals for a game of pool or a discussion on philosophy at Cafe Sperl.
Visit the Demel Bakery, the original confectioners to the Austrian Royal Family. Order a sachentorte - a traditional chocolate cake and relax with an international newspaper.
Stroll to the Vienna State Opera, considered one of the greatest opera houses in the world. Take a backstage tour, learn the story of this historic place and see the hidden machinery that creates the performance magic.
A little further along the ring is the Hofburg Imperial Palace. This impressive palace was home to the Hapsburg dynasty who ruled the area for centuries and currently serves as the official residence for the President of Austria.
Examine ancient manuscripts and see the some of the earliest globes in the Austrian National Library which is also housed here.
Take the time to enjoy the Volksgarten - or people’s garden - famous for its more than 400 species of roses and the Theseus Temple in its centre. There are 2000 parks in Vienna so there is always somewhere nearby to relax.
Layered with history, Vienna is a truly international city. Explore monumental palaces and priceless artworks, all set amidst a cafe culture that changed the world.

The imposing streets fulfil us with the atmosphere of the Monarchy, while in the cafes we can taste the famous Sacher cake or the Viennese kapuziner.

Travel video about destination Vienna in Austria.
Vienna is one of the world's most beautiful, historic cities, brimming with nostalgia and with all the grand architecture of a once glorious empire, for three centuries it was home to the Austrian monarchy.
The architectural image of the city is dominated by the Ringstrasse, a four kilometre long boulevard which encircles the centre of the city.
It was under the supervision of Maria Theresia that the magnificent royal residence, the Schönbrunn Palace, was completed. More than 1,700 beautifully-preserved rooms afforded the large Imperial family much freedom of movement and its magnificent interior décor is one of the most lavish of its time. The Palace Grounds contain the outstanding Neptune Fountain and at the highest point, the Gloriette, from which the entire palace grounds are visible, as well as the charming Schönbrunn Zoo, the oldest animal enclosure in the world.
St. Stephen's Cathedral dominates the centre of Vienna and not far away behind the State Opera House, is the venerable Hotel Sacher, with its old Viennese coffee house.
Johann Strauss, the Vienna Boys' Choir, Lipizzaner horses and Heurige wine, Vienna is a city of irresistible charm!

Abstract
Worldwide vaccination programs against the most prevalent vaccine preventable diseases have been introduced by the health authorities to reduce morbidity and mortality rates, minimize disease outbreaks, and ultimately eradicate diseases. These recommendations are based on clinical trials performed in selected, healthy populations. The situation is unlike for patients with different chronic diseases and/or immunodeficiencies, since there is a lack of prospective randomized studies. Consequently, the vaccination recommendations are primarily based on theoretical considerations and are often quite imprecise, leading to suboptimal vaccine preventive care. Within the last years we concentrated our research programs on the immunological characterization of non-responsiveness to routine vaccines in healthy as well as different risk groups. Non-responsiveness in healthy individuals occurs in 2-10% of vaccinees and is defined by a lack of sufficient protective immune-responses after primary or booster vaccination. We could demonstrate that non-responsiveness to tick-borne encephalitis vaccine is associated with both, low humoral and cellular antigen-specific immune responses. In genetically pre-disposed hepatitis B non-responder, showing an association to certain HLA-DR subtypes, high IL-10 levels as well as increased regulatory T and B cells are linked to non-responsiveness to hepatitis B but also to other vaccine antigens. Immunosenescence is another risk factor for non-responsiveness to vaccination. With increasing age (greater than 60 yrs) humoral and cellular responses are significantly lower, particularly to novel vaccine antigens, than in younger vaccinees and thus associated with increased infection susceptibility. We recently described that primary vaccination with Japenese encephalitis vaccine led to humoral and cellular non/low responsivenss in 47% of the vaccinated elderly. The frequency of regulatory T cells as well as late differentiated effector memory cells was significantly higher compared to the young vaccinees and this was associated with increased CMV-seropositivity. This study indicated that elderly may require different vaccination strategies, modified booster schedules and other adjuvants systems for vaccines, while primary vaccination should be encouraged to be done before the age of 60. Similar studies are now being performed in allergic patients and obese individuals, since their immunological status seems to be impaired as well and the effectiveness of vaccination is currently unclear. Along these lines, a multicentre study on vaccination of cancer patients is on the way to answer important questions, such as the influence of tumor entity, stage of diseases and chemotherapy on vaccine responsiveness.
Biography
Univ. Prof. Dr. Ursula Wiedermann had studied Medicine in Vienna, Austria. Between 1990-1995 she completed her PhD thesis in Sweden at the Institute of Clinical Immunology at the University of Gothenburg. Back in Vienna she continued her research career at the University of Vienna concentrating on mucosal vaccination against allergic diseases. After her habilitation in 1999 she founded the research group “Mucosal Immunity and Vaccination”. In 2001 she finished her medical training as specialist for “Immunology” and “Specific Prophylaxis and Tropical Hygiene”. At the Institute of Specific Prophylaxis and Tropical Medicine she enlarged her research areas to vaccine development against infectious diseases, allergies and cancer, and focused on clinical vaccine trials to study immune responsiveness and immune failures upon vaccination. In 2004 she became Head of the Institute of Specific Prophylaxis and Tropical Medicine and in 2006 she was assigned Professor for Vaccinology at the Medical University Vienna.

ECSS Vienna 2016 - crossing borders through sport science
Welcome to the 21st Annual Congress of the ECSS
On behalf of the Centre for Sport Science and University Sports, University of Vienna it is my great pleasure to invite you to attend the 21st Annual Congress of the European College of Sport Science in Vienna. The congress will be held between 6th and 9th of July, 2016 at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) which is located close to the City Center, the River Danube but also the United Nations Building.
"Crossing Borders through Sport Science" as conference theme should reflect the long-lasting tradition of Austria in bringing together people from all over the world but also the emphasis of the European College to fully cover all disciplines and topics within Sport Science. Especially plenary but also invited symposia will be chosen carefully to highlight different view points on specific topics in order to summarize existing knowledge but also to find new ideas and ways of research in our area.
Similar to other ECSS conferences we aim to attract many early stage researchers but also well known experts to ensure a valuable information exchange at all formats of the conference from mini orals to plenary sessions. Possibly, this will lead to the discovery of high potentials within the Young Investigator Award, but certainly to the development of future projects, collaborations, and friendships.
Of course visiting a conference not only is to meet other scientists but also to grab the spirit of the hosting city and its surroundings. Vienna has transformed from a Roman settlement to the capital of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, finally becoming the capital of the modern Austrian state with about 2 million inhabitants. Since several years Vienna is ranked number one concerning the quality of living which reflects not only political and economical factors but also health, education and public service including transportation. When coming to Vienna you will experience the historical heritage mixed with modernity not only when visiting museums, concerts and the different theatres but also when relaxing at one of the numerous restaurants, bars and of course at the classical "Heurigen" in the vineyards of Vienna.
We are looking forward to seeing you all in Vienna in 2016.

Biography
Lothar Brecker received his diploma and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Dortmund in 1993 and 1996, respectively. After working at Graz University of Technology and Research Center Borstel, he became an Associate Professor at the University of Vienna. There he actually serves as Vice Head of the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Deputy Director of the Chemistry Studies Program. His main research activities are in the fields of using NMR to study enzyme ligand binding, interactions between small molecules, and structure determination of natural products. He has published more than 80 papers in reputed journals.

A SYMBOL OF SUMMER
Nats "Awesome meal."
SIMPLE HAPPINESS FOR THREE DOLLARS.

John Lee/Hot Dog U student
"You do need to keep it simple as far as just don''t over think it. It is selling hot dogs. It''s not rocket science."
ENTER...HOT DOG UNIVERSITY...A TWO DAY COURSE COSTING 7 HUNDRED DOLLARS...RUN OUT OF THE VIENNA BEEF FACTORY IN CHICAGO.
STUDENTS LEARN THE SECRETS OF THE BUSINESS FROM THE PROFESSOR OF HOT DOGS, MARK REITMAN.
"Hot dogs come in 10lbs cases."
"The standard length hot dog is 6inches/bun 6inches"
"The difference between a natural casing and skinless hotdog can be almost 8 cents a hot dog."
THOSE PENNIES ARE PROFIT.
EACH ITEM ON THE CART COUNTS TOWARDS MAKING A DOLLAR.
GETTING STARTED WITH A BASIC HOT DOG CART AND SUPPLIES COSTS ABOUT 4 THOUSAND DOLLARS.
Mark Reitman/Professor of Hot Dogs
"if you find a good location during the week, you are looking at possibly taking in maybe $75,000 a year with food costs being 30%, your are looking at taking in 40 to 45 thousand dollars a year for working 3 or 4 hours a day."
THE FINANCIAL APPEAL HAS KEPT HOT DOG UNIVERSITY COOKING SINCE 2006 AND REITMAN SAYS THE TYPE OF PEOPLE SIGNING UP HAS CHANGED FROM DREAMERS TO THE UNEMPLOYED LIKE JOHN LEE.

John Lee/Hot Dog U student
"We want to start with one cart and hopefully go to three or four carts maybe and then maybe an actual stand and see where it goes from there. Maybe catering little league games and birthday parties."
THE OLDER LEE LIVES CLOSE TO WRIGLEY FIELD AND WANTS TO SELL HOT DOGS NEAR BY ON GAME DAYS.
THEIR VISION IS TO MAKE MUCH MORE THAN...
Nats "Peanuts"
John Lee/Hot Dog U student
