With 1.5 million lucky people calling Auckland home, this North Island gem is the most populous city in New Zealand. Auckland tourism is quite diverse, giving visitors a bounty of choices for how to spend their time. The city marries modern buildings and art with nature, and the surrounding region has plenty of its own attractions to offer.
Auckland is called the City of Sails, boasting more boats per capita than anywhere else in the world. Nestled between two natural harbors, it’s no wonder residents and visitors alike enjoy spending time on the water. After a breakfast in Elliott Stables, take off on a boat cruise from downtown to explore the sights of Hauraki Gulf.
With your feet back on solid ground, enjoy Auckland sightseeing and shopping along Queen Street. Jet over to Ponsonby, which is considered one of the more hip neighborhoods in Auckland. When lunchtime rolls around, find your way to Devonport, a lovely harborside suburb where you can enjoy a seafood lunch.
With a contented stomach, spend some time at Auckland Domain, the city’s oldest park. Watch a game of cricket, walk through the Formal Gardens, or take a leisurely stroll through the mature trees. If you’re interested in even more of New Zealand’s natural landscape, head just outside the city for rolling hills, jagged cliffs, and forests with towering treetops. Walk through the Hauna Ranges and you’ll be rewarded with the Hunua Falls, an impressive waterfall rushing over a volcanic edge.
Visitors interested in adventurous Auckland tours must head to the downtown Sky Tower before leaving New Zealand. This is the tallest man-made building in the entire country – and it offers a breathtaking base jump from the top. If you’re not in the mood for that much adrenaline, head to the observation platform to take in sweeping views of the city and harbor.
What do you most look forward to doing in Auckland?

Auckland - New Zealand - Oceania Tourism, Attractions, Travel Guide
Auckland - New Zealand - Oceania Tourism, Attractions, Travel Guide - Travel Videos HD, World Travel http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube
Improbably strung across a series of volcanoes, and punctuated by islands of green, Auckland is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is also extraordinary for the diversity of its population, with one-third of its residents born overseas. This makes it a genuine cultural melting pot and the most vibrant city in New Zealand.
For unparalleled beauty, consider Auckland's natural assets. Framed by the summit of Maungawhau (Mt Eden), it is surrounded by the sweeping expanse of Waitematā Harbour to the north-west, with the distinctive cone of Rangitoto Island and the islands of the inner Hauraki Gulf to the north-east. On a clear day, Little Barrier (Hauturu) and Great Barrier (Aotea) islands and the Coromandel Peninsula shimmer in the distance.
Thanks to its location on a narrow isthmus, Auckland's districts weave around bays and harbours, so you're never far from the water. In fact, the intricate series of inlets and creeks means that most residents live within 5km (2 miles) of the sea. In total, Auckland and its surroundings are blessed with over 1,600km (994 miles) of unpolluted coastline featuring glorious beaches. If you fancy a dip, head to Mission Bay, Takapuna or Devonport, while there are good surfing spots at Pihi and Muriwai. Considering these facts, it's no surprise then that the city is obsessed with sailing, with more boats per capita in Auckland than any other city in the world, earning it the moniker 'City of Sails'.
Aside from its natural assets, Auckland is the country's most culturally diverse city, home to a significant Polynesian, Asian and Maori community, who made up around 44% of the population in 2006. This diversity is reflected in Auckland's eclectic restaurants serving quality Pacific Rim cuisine (fish and seafood here is divine) and its shops. Despite the fact that it's the country's largest city, it's surprisingly small and has a village-like ambience.
From its vibrant, regenerated waterfront and ever-expanding Downtown district to its hip suburbs with their Edwardian and Victorian delights, Auckland teems with delights. And its manmade attractions are equally compelling. Check out the iconic Sky Tower, New Zealand's tallest building, where visitors can drink in breathtaking views from a height of 328m (1,076ft).
Or visit the superb Auckland Museum, housed in an impressive Greco-Roman style building, dedicated to telling the story of New Zealand, its place in the Pacific and its people. It is particularly renowned for its Maori and Pacific collections. Make a detour to swoop over Auckland's Harbour Bridge. Although lacking the resonance of its Sydney counterpart, it is an important part of the city's history and offers spectacular harbour views for daredevils willing to bungee jump into the harbour.
And when you want to escape the urban jungle, head out to the unspoilt Waitakere Ranges, a chain of hills lying 25 km (14 miles) from the city to the west, where you'll discover traditional Maori carvings, black-sand beaches and kauri forests.
With such bountiful attractions, it's no wonder that thousands of foreign students every year head to Auckland to make the city their home. Follow their lead and pay a visit -- you won't regret it.

Top Tourist Attractions in New Zealand
Milford Sound
========
Milford Sound is among the most famous tourist attractions in New Zealand. Lying at the most northern and accessible end of Fiordland National Park, Milford sound offers some of the world's most staggering coastal scenery with its dramatic peaks and dark blue waters. The area's frequent downpours only enhance this South Island beauty, sending numerous waterfalls cascading down the cliffs.
Bay of Islands
==========
The Bay of Islands is one of the most popular holiday destinations in New Zealand. The picturesque area contains 144 islands, many secluded bays and some great sandy beaches. This beautiful bay has an abundance of marine life including whales, penguins, dolphins and the big marlin. Not surprisingly, it is a popular tourist spot for sailing yachts on world cruises and international sport fishermen.
Tongariro National Park
===================
The first national park of New Zealand, Tongariro is known for its surprises and extremes. The park's diverse range of ecosystems includes tranquil lakes, active volcanoes, herb fields, untamed forests and desert-like plateaus. Start your trek at the Whakapapa Visitor Center, just a three hour hike from the stunning Taranaki Falls. The short hike will take you through scrubland and forest and across the lava line of volcanic eruptions from hundreds of years ago.
Rotorua
========
Rotorua is known as the thermal wonderland of New Zealand. There are numerous geysers and hot springs in and around the city. Many of these are in parks and reserves. Natural eruptions of steam, hot water and mud occasionally occur in new locations. Nearby Wai-O-Tapu is also a popular tourist attraction with many hot springs noted for their colorful appearance, in addition to the Lady Knox Geyser.
Franz Josef Glacier
=============
This glacier, located within Westland National Park in the southwest, is one of the world's most accessible. Visitors can walk right up to the foot of the massive glacier or take a helicopter ride over the dazzling Ice Age remnant. Together with Fox Glacier it is one of South Westland's major drawcards for tourists.
Kaikoura
========
This small coastal town on the South Island is a haven for seafood lovers. You can spot fur seals, dolphins, sperm whales and albatrosses off the shore, then indulge in a feast of fresh crayfish, mussels, blue cod and more. Land lovers can take a wilderness walk through the untamed and dramatic Kaikoura forest.
Napier Art Deco
========
Napier, a small city in Hawke's Bay on the North Island's east coast, is famous for its eye-catching art deco architecture. Most of Napier was leveled by an earthquake in 1931. The rebuilding period coincided with the short-lived Art Deco era and as a result Napier's architecture is strikingly different from any other city in the world. Thousands of tourist visit Napier every February for the Art Deco Weekend, an event dedicated to the style, vintage cars, picnics and the soapbox derby.
Sky Tower
===============
The Sky Tower is an observation and telecommunications tower located in New Zealand's largest city. At a height of 328 meters (1,076 ft) it is the tallest free-standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere and the Sky Tower has become an iconic structure in Auckland's skyline. The tower offers views of up to 80 km away and fine dining in the Orbit revolving restaurant.
Abel Tasman National Park
===============
Located on the northern tip of the country's South Island, this vast national park is a hiker's dream. Closed to vehicles, one must enter by boat, foot or small plane, but the trip is well worth it. While traversing the mountainous terrain, blue penguins, wekas, oyster catchers, wood pigeons and other rare birds can all be seen.
Coromandel Peninsula
==============
This north-eastern peninsula is famous for its white and golden sand beaches that frame magnificent coastal scenery, forests perfect for days of exploration and other natural wonders. Start your visit in Thames, a small but picturesque city with a rich history of gold mining. Don't miss a stop at Hot Water Beach, where visitors can dig their own hot pool from the springs under the sands.

Top Tourist Attractions in New Zealand
Milford Sound
========
==========
===================
Rotorua
========
=============
Kaikoura
========
========
Sky Tower
===============
===============
==============

Recent DNA information indicates the New Zealand sea lion is a lineage previously restricted to subantarctic regions. Somewhere between 1300 and 1500 AD, a genetically distinct mainland lineage was wiped out by the first Maori settlers, and the subantarctic lineage has since then gradually filled the ecological niche.

In 2015, WWF and the Department of Conservation partnered together to help save sea lion pumps from drowning on the Auckland Islands, 460km from the South Island of New Zealand.
Many sea lion pups were falling into muddy bogs on the islands, and being unable to escape, were drowning.
WWF and DOC installed pup ramps to allow the small sea lions to escape the bogs.

Przez pierwsze dwa dni pogoda nie rozpieszczała. Nawet w środku lata jest w stanie tu spaść śnieg. Mimo tego musiałem jechać dalej, bo plan jest najważniejszy. Rano zwiedzanie Auckland, później spacer po Tamaki Beach i czas w drogę w kierunku Bay of Islands. Następnego dnia dotarłem na miejsce niestety mgła przesłoniła prawie wszystko. Popołudniu pogoda znacznie się poprawiła więc postanowiłem wybrać się na mały odpoczynek na plaży.

Somewhere between 1300 and 1500 AD, a genetically distinct mainland lineage was wiped out by the first Maori settlers, and the subantarctic lineage has since then gradually filled the ecological niche.
The New Zealand sea lion is probably the world's rarest sea lion and numbers around 10,000.
On the Auckland Islands, three functioning rookeries are found. Most sea lions are born on Dundas Island. A smaller rookery exists at Sandy Bay on Enderby Island and the smallest rookery is on Figure of Eight Island. An even smaller rookery at South East Point on Auckland Island appears to now have been abandoned. The other major breeding area is the Campbell Islands.
Sea lions are generally philopatric. They are the only species in their genus.
New Zealand sea lions, like all otariids, have marked sexual dimorphism. Adult males are 240–350 cm long and weigh 320–450 kg and adult females are 180–200 cm long and weigh 90–165 kg. At birth, pups are 70–100 cm long and weigh 7–8 kg; the natal pelage is a thick coat of dark brown hair that becomes dark gray with cream markings on the top of the head, nose, tail and at the base of the flippers. Adult females' coats vary from buff to creamy gray with darker pigmentation around the muzzle and the flippers. Adult males are blackish-brown with a well-developed black mane of coarse hair reaching the shoulders.

New Zealand & Australia Trip - Part 2 - Auckland and Bay of Islands
Przez pierwsze dwa dni pogoda nie rozpieszczała. Nawet w środku lata jest w stanie tu spaść śnieg. Mimo tego musiałem jechać dalej, bo plan jest najważniejszy. Rano zwiedzanie Auckland, później spacer po Tamaki Beach i czas w drogę w kierunku Bay of Islands. Następnego dnia dotarłem na miejsce niestety mgła przesłoniła prawie wszystko. Popołudniu pogoda znacznie się poprawiła więc postanowiłem wybrać się na mały odpoczynek na plaży.

This 1982 Lookout documentary charts Samoan novelist and poet Albert Wendt’s personal view of Samoans in Auckland. Set mainly in what was then predominantly Samoan Grey Lynn, Wendt looks at how New Zealand-born Samoans maintain the traditions of their homeland. He also examines the close ties between those in New Zealand and the wider ainga, or extended family, back home. The church’s role in the community is highlighted, along with sports. Wendt also addresses what he sees as the double edged sword of remittance: sending money back to islands.

Selwyn Manning and Peter Godfrey deliver their weekly bulletin, Across The Ditch. This week they discuss how the New Zealand Reserve Bank is speaking out backing a capital gains tax as a means of cooling down a heated Auckland property market. Peter raises the issue of domestic violence and discusses how Australia's statistics show one victim of domestic violence is killed every three days.
And the weather, both NZ and Australia feel the icy grip of winter approaching.

New Zealand Subantarctic Islands Expedition of 2014
Just a century ago a voyage to the subantarctic islands was a journey into the unknown. Tales of archipelagos home to thriving seal and penguin colonies and surrounded by vast numbers of whales promised riches to those who dared head south. But getting there was an entirely different matter. Ships literally sailed off the edge off the map in their quest for profit. The ‘Roaring Forties’ and ‘Furious Fifty’ winds made the Southern Ocean a dangerous place to venture in small wooden craft, while the islands were often poorly mapped or non-existent. Today the region offers wealth of a different sort to scientists.
Yesterday, a team of five of us returned from a three week voyage to the Southern Ocean. Building on the scientific findings of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition 2013-2014 (http://www.spiritofmawson.com/), we set out from the University of New South Wales to explore the changing climate and environment of the New Zealand subantarctic islands Campbell and Auckland. These biological hotspots straddle 50 to 52˚S, providing a precious opportunity to extend historical records back tens of thousands of years across a region that plays a major role in our planet’s climate. Setting out from the southern port of Bluff, Jonathan Palmer, Zoë Thomas, Mat Lipson, Pavla Fenwick and myself journeyed in the fifty-foot veteran of the Southern Ocean, the Tiama, with the irrepressible Captain Henk Haazen and First Mate Kali Kahn.
We explored numerous inlet and harbours, venturing far and wide as we searched for forests in the south, ancient trees in peat bogs and remnants of the last ice age along the peaks on the islands. While the subantarctics are better mapped today, it wasn’t all plain sailing. The Southern Ocean hasn’t mellowed with age while the wildlife – although protected today – were far from welcoming. During our expedition, we made a short film of our adventure, explaining the science and sharing our discoveries. We couldn’t resist showing you what it’s like to work in one of the most remote, wildest and beautiful places on our planet and share some of the humour on the voyage.
Hope you enjoy the film.
If you’d like to learn more about the Tiama, check out http://www.tiama.com/. Henk has some great film footage and short reports on other trips that headed south in this fantastic vessel.

Radio: Across The Ditch: Hot Auckland Housing Market Risks Pulling Economy Down Around It
Selwyn Manning and Peter Godfrey deliver their weekly bulletin, Across The Ditch.
ITEM ONE: Peter this is a huge issue for NZ and a major challenge for the Government, it's ideology first 'hands off the market' approach is failing and the Cabinet appears reluctant to permit a pragmatic interventionist response to occur.
It is unprecedented that the Reserve Bank would speak out against Government policy, and advocate the opposition's capital gains tax policy from the last election campaign... but that is what is now happening.
The Government has permitted a solution-vacuum to occur, and the NZ Reserve Bank is occupying the space.
(reference http://eveningreport.nz/2015/04/15/state-of-it-capital-gains-tax-mooted-by-new-zealand-reserve-bank-governments-market-will-correct-it-failures-exposed/ )
THE RESERVE BANK OF NEW ZEALAND has issued a public statement backing a capital gains tax (CGT) as a way of correcting an over-heated Auckland housing market. It is the most persuasive indicator so far that the Reserve Bank’s preferences are out-of-step with current Government policy.
Throughout 2014 and early 2015 Finance Minister Bill English ruled out a capital gains tax as a prudent policy response to Auckland’s problematic housing market. During the 2014 General Election, the Prime Minister also insisted a CGT was not needed and Labour’s backing of it as a Reserve Bank tool was ridiculed.
But on Wednesday, in a speech to Rotorua’s Chamber of Commerce, the Reserve Bank’s deputy governor, Grant Spencer, laid bare the Reserve Bank’s thinking. Spencer suggested a CGT is now needed to ease investor demand that is currently, in tandem with other factors, driving Auckland house prices up at unsustainable rates. (Ref. LiveNews.co.nz)
Spencer underscored how attempts to cool the market, through increasing supply – medium to long term remedies that may lift the number of houses on the market, the unlocking of green fields land, and, an intention to break the back of local government bureaucracy through Resource Management Act reform – have proven to be problematic.
But Spencer’s message also suggests the Government must act on demand and roll out a response that is specifically designed to ease investor demand on Auckland’s current housing stock.
When reading Spencer’s Reserve Bank speech, it is clear, there now exists a significant risk to the New Zealand economy. The Government’s reticence to address investor/speculator demand – whether it be foreign in origin or domestic – has permitted paper values to climb beyond real value and beyond sustainable limits.
It reminds us of International Monetary Fund warnings that the New Zealand dollar was around 15 percent above true value and OECD cautions that Auckland’s house prices were bloated above comparative markets offshore.
The big risk is what the Reserve Bank calls disruptive correction, which is economic-speak for a broad-based implosion of New Zealand’s domestic economy caused by an imbalance between Auckland and out-of-Auckland housing values and the negative effect such an occurrence will have on our banking system.
The situation exposes the Government to accusations that it places its ideology (that the market will correct itself) ahead of a pragmatic solution.
ITEM TWO:
Last week South Australia felt the advent of winter. This week, New Zealand is feeling winter's icy breath!
It may only be early April but snow is already falling in the South Island and parts of the North Island's central volcanic plateau.
Even in the North, in Auckland, the evenings seem dark, and the warm sunshine of last week seems a distant memory.
WeatherWatch head analyst Philip Duncan said temperatures would warm up over the next couple of days, with temperatures in the late teens to early 20s.
He told the NZ Herald Temperatures would continue to climb Thursday as the cold front moved off to the east. But temperatures would fall again as rain moved in from the south from Friday.
Across The Ditch broadcasts live on FiveAA.com.au and webcasts on EveningReport.nz.
