Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a lentivirus (a member of the retrovirus family) that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), a condition in humans in which progressive failure of the immune system allows life-threatening opportunistic infections and cancers to thrive. Infection with HIV occurs by the transfer of blood, semen, vaginal fluid, pre-ejaculate, or breast milk. Within these bodily fluids, HIV is present as both free virus particles and virus within infected immune cells. The four major routes of transmission are unsafe sex, contaminated needles, breast milk, and transmission from an infected mother to her baby at birth (perinatal transmission). Screening of blood products for HIV has largely eliminated transmission through blood transfusions or infected blood products in the developed world.

Stephen John Fry (born 24 August 1957) is an English actor, screenwriter, author, playwright, journalist, poet, comedian, television presenter, film director, and a director of Norwich City Football Club.
After a troubled childhood and adolescence, during which he was expelled from a number of schools and eventually spent three months in prison for credit card fraud, he was able to secure a place at Queens' College, Cambridge, where he studied English Literature.
He first came to public attention in the 1981 Cambridge Footlights Revue presentation "The Cellar Tapes", which also included Hugh Laurie, Emma Thompson and Tony Slattery. With Hugh Laurie, as the comedy double act Fry and Laurie, he co-wrote and co-starred in A Bit of Fry & Laurie, and took the role of Jeeves (with Laurie playing Wooster) in Jeeves and Wooster.
As an actor, Fry played the lead in the film Wilde, was Melchett in the BBC television series Blackadder, starred as the title character Peter Kingdom in the ITV series Kingdom, has a recurring guest role as Dr. Gordon Wyatt on the Fox crime series Bones and appeared as rogue TV host Gordon Deitrich in the dystopian thriller V For Vendetta. He has also written and presented several documentary series including the 2008 television series Stephen Fry in America, which saw him travelling across all 50 US states. Since 2003 he has been the host of the quiz show QI.

"Recentemente, uma pesquisa conhecida como o Estudo PARTNER foi apresentada na prestigiada Conferência sobre Retrovirus e Infecções Oportunistas (Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections – CROI, em inglês). O PARTNER provou algo que os militantes da luta contra o HIV há muito suspeitavam: pessoas portadoras do HIV com carga viral indetectável não transmitem o vírus a seus parceiros. Quase 800 casais participaram do estudo, todos sorodiscordantes, gays e héteros, com o parceiro soropositivo apresentando uma carga viral indetectável. Ao longo de dois anos, mais de 30 mil relações sexuais foram contabilizadas e documentadas (os casais foram escolhidos tendo por base sua tendência a fazer sexo sem preservativo).
Nem uma transmissão do HIV sequer aconteceu entre aqueles que tinham carga viral indetectável durante o estudo. Se o Estudo PARTNER estivesse testando um novo medicamento, as entidades responsáveis o aprovariam imediatamente e colocariam a droga no mercado.
Os resultados do Estudo PARTNER fortalecem a estratégia de prevenção conhecida como “Tratamento Como Prevenção” (TcP), ou seja, uma pessoa soropositiva deixa de provocar novas infecções quando realiza o tratamento como devido. Até hoje, não há um único caso confirmado de alguém que tenha carga viral indetectável e tenha infectado outra pessoa, seja nos estudos científicos, seja na vida real.
Mas não adianta dizer isso para uma fatia considerável de gays céticos, muitos dos quais correram para seus teclados para fazerem pouco caso das descobertas desse estudo. Frases como “sensação falsa de segurança”, “soropositivos são mentirosos”, “ciência barata” e “mesmo que haja um pequeno risco” se alastraram por posts de Facebook e comentários de sites. A população de Williamson deve estar concordando cheia de orgulho.

At birth, Hydeia Broadbent was abandoned at the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas where Patricia and Loren Broadbent adopted her as an infant. What do new research results mean for people with TB & HIV? (webinar)

This is the recording of a webinar on "What do new research results mean for people with TB-HIV?" This webinar was our humble tribute to India's pioneer HIV researcher Dr Suniti Solomon who had documented first HIV case in the country and made seminal lifetime contribution in fighting AIDS on the ground as well. She left for her heavenly abode recently.
Results of few important studies have come very recently, producing strong evidence to improve treatment outcomes for people with TB-HIV co-infection. For example:
* START study was the largest randomized controlled trial ever to see effect of early initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART). It provided strong evidence that early treatment reduced the risk of the combination of serious AIDS-related illness, serious non-AIDS-related illness and death by more than half compared to deferring treatment.
* Study: Early HIV Treatment Improves Survival in Some Patients with Newly Diagnosed TB (July 2015)
* Study: A Trial of Early Antiretrovirals and Isoniazid Preventive Therapy in Africa, published in the New England Journal of Medicine (20 July 2015)
* Study called for urgent action to integrate anti-smoking strategies into TB, HIV and TB-HIV care published in the International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (10 August 2015)

HIV merupakan singkatan dari “Human Immunodeficiency Virus”. Virus ini merupakan virus yang dapat menyebabkan AIDS. Jika anda terinfeksi HIV, anda akan dikatakan sebagai HIV positif.
HIV menyerang sistem kekebalan tubuh, yang mana adalah pertahanan tubuh terhadap penyakit. Jika sistem kekebalan tubuh seseorang telah dirusak oleh virus, maka akan mengembangkan AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome). Ini berarti mereka akan mendapatkan infeksi dan penyakit yang mana tubuh mereka biasanya bisa melawan.
Didiagnosa menderita HIV bukan berarti seseorang memiliki AIDS atau mereka akan meninggal.

Though the drug was highly effective, patients soon began to report bizarre dreams, hallucinations, and feelings of unreality. When South African tabloids started to run stories of efavirenz-motivated rapes and robberies, scientists began to seriously study how efavirenz might produce these unexpected hallucinogenic effects. Hamilton Morris travels to South Africa to interview efavirenz users and dealers and study how the life-saving medicine became part of a dangerous cocktail called "nyaope." -

It was only four years later, when Grace became so ill she had to be carried to hospital, that she found they were both HIV positive ... In Kenya, HIV prevalence among adults has almost halved since the mid-1990s to 5.3 percent in 2014, according to UNAIDS....
