We'll look at the writings of Sayyid Jamal ad-Din al-Afghani from the Middle East, Liang Qichao from China, and Rabindranath Tagore from India. these voices from the countries that were colonized give us a sense of how conquered people saw their conquerors, and gives an insight into what these nations learned from being dominated by Europe. Also, they went to war for the right to continue to sell opium to the people of China. Twice. John will teach you how these empires managed to leverage the advances of the Industrial Revolution to build vast, wealth-generating empires. As it turns out, improved medicine, steam engines, and better guns were crucial in the 19th century conquests. Also, the willingness to exploit and abuse the people and resources of so-called "primitive" nations was very helpful in the whole enterprise.

American Imperialism: Crash Course US History #28
In which John Green teaches you about Imperialism. In the late 19th century, the great powers of Europe were running around the world obtaining colonial possessions, especially in Africa and Asia. The United States, which as a young country was especially suceptible to peer pressure, followed along and snapped up some colonies of its own. The US saw that Spain's hold on its empire was weak, and like some kind of expansionist predator, it jumped into the Cuban War for Independence and turned it into the Spanish-Cuban-Phillipino-American War, which usually just gets called the Spanish-American War. John will tell you how America turned this war into colonial possessions like Puerto Rico, The Philippines, and almost even got to keep Cuba. The US was busy in the Pacific as well, wresting control of Hawaii from the Hawaiians. All this and more in a globe-trotting, oppressing episode of Crash Course US History.

Super Imperialism - New Edition by Michael Hudson Ebook PDF

Author: Michael Hudson
Publish: 2003-01-20
Michael Hudson's brilliant shattering book will leave orthodox economists spluttering. Classical economists don't like to be reminded of the ugly realities of Imperialism. Hudson is one of the tiny handful of economic thinkers in today's world who are forcing us to look at old questions in startling new ways. Alvin Toffler, best-selling author of Future Shock and The Third WaveThis new and completely revised edition of Super Imperialism describes the genesis of America's political and financial domination. Michael Hudson's in-depth and highly controversial study of U.S. financial diplomacy explores the faults built into the core of the World Bank and the IMF at their inception which -- he argues -- were intended to preserve the US's financial hegemony. Difficult to detect at the time, these problems have since become explicit as the failure of the international economic system has become apparent; the IMF and World Bank were set up to give aid to developing countries, but instead many of the world's poorest countries have been plunged into insurmountable debt crises. Hudson's critique of the destructive course of the international economic system provides important insights into the real motivations at the heart of these institutions - and the increasing tide of opposition that they face around the world.

The cause of Imperialism in the current conflict of the Ukraine compared to the cause of Imperialism in WWI
What is Imperialism?
Imperialism is described as the effect on economy, politics and military of a country as a dominion started in the twentieth centuries of Europe and U.S.A as to be the superpower over specific countries to widen their empires
The conflict in Ukraine with Russia
The pro Russian separatists and the Ukrainian's military fight against each others, because the pro Russians want to be an independent nation, but the new president Poroshenko want the Ukraine to be in assosciation with Europe. Russia is providing the pro Russians, even tho Ukraine could be a part of Russia. Russia has even given Kiev to the Ukraine a long time ago.
Janukowitch, the old president of the Ukraine ended with being the President so Poroshenko got the new president. Not all of Ukraine wanted Poroshenko, as how it was on May 25 2014 that only 55% voted him as the new president. But because Poroshenko is for Ukraine being a part with Europe, the pro Russians fight against the military.
Imperialism as a cause of the conflict
Imperialism is a small cause for the conflict in the Ukraine, as a part of the Ukraine wants to bound with Europe, which can imperialize the Ukraine, which might be the thoughts and the fear of the pro Russians.
Imperialism as a cause in WWI
Germany and great Britain were the most powerful countries in WWI, because they had the strongest, the best, and the biggest military. Because of that, they were able to imperialize other countries, to widen their empire. They were able to imperialize other countries, because they were the most mightiest, which lead them to think of being able to start wars against their enemy countries.
Comparing the conflict and WWI with Imperialism
Imperialism was the same cause in the conflict of the Ukraine as it was in WWI, in the way that better imperialized countries had more power than not imperialized countries, and which kept powerless countries away from fighting for their wants, and which in WWI was solved through alliances, which parts of the Ukraine is trying to do as well by wanting to be a part of Europe, but is different in the way, that the conflict is in the country Ukraine, instead of a conflict between another country.

China Watch out on Japanese military ambition power development imperialism 日本軍事領域又有“大动作”
In one of the most significant changes to Tokyo's foreign aid charter in more than a decade, the Japanese Cabinet has modified the rules for its overseas assistance fund to allow support for foreign militaries engaged in non-combat activities. The evolution of the Official Development Assistance fund (ODA), now known as the Development Cooperation Charter, means that Japan can expand the scope of its activities abroad, previously limited to grants, aid, technical cooperation and infrastructure development.
Tokyo is attempting to redefine itself internationally in response to evolving regional, economic and security threats. As a result, Japan must take increasing responsibility for its overseas activities and manage the risk associated with its maturing foreign policy. The expanded charter is not completely groundbreaking, but it is one of many steps reflecting Japan's 21st century aspirations. The biggest question, though, is not the extent of Japan's transformation from a post-war model, but whether Tokyo can afford it.
Analysis
For Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's administration, now is an important time to be thinking about Japan's position overseas. Maritime and territorial disputes in the East China Sea highlight the importance of maintaining stability at a time when China is concerned about resources and strategic access to the region. Tokyo's plans to expand its outreach in the Middle East, Africa and Latin America put it on a collision course with other state and non-state actors. The Islamic State's recent kidnapping and killing of two Japanese nationals was a stark reminder of the risks that come with overseas involvements.
Abe is also trying to balance military normalization with Japan's non-violent, non-interventionist approach to foreign policy at a time of economic uncertainty. The evolution of Japan's primary means of overseas engagement was tabled in early 2014, but the latest policy shift opens up more opportunities to establish regional and global partnerships with sympathetic nations, moves that would likely antagonize competing nations such as China and South Korea.
Reaching Out From Isolation
In the immediate aftermath of World War II, Japan found itself once more secluded, this time by no choice of its own. In addition to its geographic isolation, Tokyo was cut adrift from the international community, with the exception of an occupying United States. Beginning in the mid-1950s, Japan made fledgling attempts to reach out under the auspices of post-war reparations, but the only international outreach Tokyo could muster was through tentative assistance packages. What was considered quaint at first became a more serious proposition in the 1970s when Japan emerged as a major economic force.
The Cold War provided stability for Japan. Disavowing militarily aggression while under the protective blanket of the United States, Tokyo did not have the defense expenditure, military commitments or foreign policy dilemmas of NATO or the Warsaw Pact countries. Under the doctrine named after Japan's first post-World War II prime minister, Shigeru Yoshida, efforts were channeled into commercial heavy industry, innovation and commerce. Japan relied on the United States for trade as well as safety. After the Soviet Union collapsed in the 1990s, Japan embraced the opportunity to expand its international influence beyond traditional agricultural and infrastructure cooperation into areas focused more on security, society and enduring partnerships.
