Bernard Durning was my great uncle and his protege, William Wellman, based A STAR IS BORN (1937) on his own experience with Durning, according to Frank T. Thompson in WILD BILL: HOLLYWOOD MAVERICK. Lon Chaney tries to kill Bernard Durning in this film as he also tried in WHEN BEARCAT WENT DRY (1919). Both films directed by Oliver L.Sellers and both films' Preacher character might be played by the same actor.. Bernard Durning's wife, silent star Shirley Mason, plays Jim to Lon Chaney's Long John Silver in TREASURE ISLAND (1920), so she evens the score for the Durnings.. Jack Curtis, who plays the drunken ruffian in the Bowery Mission scene also plays a bartender in John Ford's MY DARLING CLEMENTINE. Seena Owen plays PRINCESS BELOVED in INTOLERANCE (1915).THE GIFT SUPREME is from a novel by George Allan England, who was the "Harlan Ellison" of the 1920's, as Sci-Fi writer. Eugenie Besserer plays Bernard Durning's mother as she also does in SEEDS OF VENGEANCE (1921). She plays the mother in THE JAZZ SINGER (1927). Melbourne MacDowell, famous Broadway star plays Durning's father and Claire McDowell, his real-lif neice, also appears in the film (although not in this first scene). Rolling Stones Symphony music added by Bernard Durning (me) to modernize the movie. Tully Marshall, Anna Dodge and Dick Morris also star.Cinematography by Jack MacKenzie. PHOTOPLAY: "If you are a little tired of slick, nice-mannered and well-dressed society plays, go to see THE GIFT SUPREME and learn that life still runs wild in some places."

Seena Owen
Seena Owen (November 14, 1894 – August 15, 1966) was an American silent film actress.
Early life
Born Signe Auen in Spokane, Washington, she was the youngest of three children raised by Jens Christensen and Karen (née Sorensen) Auen. Her father and mother came from Denmark in the late 1880s and settled in Minnesota where they married in 1888. Within a short period of time they relocated to Portland and then Spokane, where her father became proprietor of the Columbia Pharmacy.
In her youth Owen was enrolled at Brunot Hall, an Episcopalian girl's school in Spokane, founded by Bishop Lemuel H. Wells. She was also educated in Copenhagen. Her life as the daughter of an affluent business owner changed in her late teens when the family business failed and it became necessary to seek employment. She received her early inspiration to act while a student at the Pauline Dunstan Belden School of Elocution in Spokane before appearing in a stock production in San Francisco playing the part of a maid for $5 a week. Soon after she went to Hollywood to work as a film extra, and had the good fortune to run into actor-director Marshall Neilan, then a Hollywood "boy wonder" whom Owen had known in Spokane. Through Neilan she was hired by the Kalem Company, an early motion picture studio, at $15 a week.

Bernard Durning
Bernard Joseph Durning (August 24, 1893 – August 29, 1923) was an American silent film director and actor who worked primarily with Lon Chaney, Dustin Farnum, and Buck Jones.
William A. Wellman was his assistant director and protégé. His older brother, Harry M. Durning, was the Collector of Customs for the Port of New York from 1933 to 1953.
Film career
Bernard Durning began at Edison Studios in the Bronx, in 1912, after attending Fordham University. He rose through the ranks of the studio as assistant to Edwin S. Porter, Charles Brabin, and John Hancock Collins. He was Production Manager at Edison for three years. He stood six foot six and is recognizable in a film still of a Stock Market scene of a 1912 Edison film which appears on page 33 in HOLLYWOOD The Pioneers by Kevin Brownlow as the face directly below the podium.William A. Wellman said that "Bernie Durning ...was the handsomest guy I've ever seen in my life."
The years of studio training made Bernard Durning a master of technique, acquainted with every angle of filmmaking. Even in his directorial debut at Edison Studios he "invented and carried into execution an entirely new idea in the lighting of night scenes in 'Aliens'. Some very fine silhouette effects were the result..." Aliens was written by Durning and starred his wife, Shirley Mason, as Kiku San, a Japanese girl. It was released as The Unwritten Code in 1919 and was the last film ever made by Edison Studios. "I guess we broke 'em!" Durning quipped.

Lon Chaney
Leonidas Frank "Lon" Chaney (April 1, 1883 – August 26, 1930) was an American stage and film actor, director and screenwriter. He is regarded as one of the most versatile and powerful actors of early cinema, renowned for his characterizations of tortured, often grotesque and afflicted characters, and his groundbreaking artistry with makeup. Chaney is known for his starring roles in such silent horror films as The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) and The Phantom of the Opera (1925). His ability to transform himself using makeup techniques he developed earned him the nickname "The Man of a Thousand Faces."
Early life
Leonidas Frank Chaney was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Frank H. Chaney and Emma Alice Kennedy. His father was of English and French ancestry, and his mother was of Scottish, English, and Irish descent. Chaney's maternal grandfather, Jonathan Ralston Kennedy, founded the "Colorado School for the Education of Mutes" (now, Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind) in 1874, and Chaney's parents met there. Both of Chaney's parents were deaf, and as a child of deaf adults Chaney became skilled in pantomime. He entered a stage career in 1902, and began traveling with popular Vaudeville and theater acts. In 1905, Chaney, then 22, met and married 16-year-old singer Cleva Creighton (Frances Cleveland Creighton) and in 1906, their only child, a son, Creighton Tull Chaney (later known as Lon Chaney, Jr.) was born. The Chaneys continued touring, settling in California in 1910.

John Cena
John Felix Anthony Cena (/ˈsiːnə/; born April 23, 1977) is an American professional wrestler, rapper and an actor signed to WWE, but is on hiatus due to injury as of February 2016. Cena is credited by WWE as the public face of that organization, and has served as its franchise player since 2005.
Cena started his pro wrestling career in 1999 with Ultimate Pro Wrestling (UPW), and won its heavyweight title the following year. Cena signed a developmental contract with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, later renamed to WWE) in 2001, debuting on the main roster in 2002. As of February 2016, Cena has won 24 championships, with 15 reigns as a world champion; he has won the WWE Championship/WWE World Heavyweight Championship a record of 12 times and the World Heavyweight Championship three times (WWE.com has repeatedly described him as a 15-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion), Cena also had five reigns as United States Champion, and four reigns as world tag team champion (two World Tag Team and two WWE Tag Team). Furthermore, he is a 2012 Money in the Bank ladder match winner, a two-time Royal Rumble winner (2008, 2013), and a three-time Superstar of the Year Slammy Award winner (2009, 2010, 2012).

Lon Chaney tries to kill Bernard Durning in this film as he also tried in WHEN BEARCAT WENT DRY (1919). Both films directed by Oliver L.Sellers and both films' Preacher character might be played by the same actor.. Bernard Durning's wife, silent star Shirley Mason, plays Jim to Lon Chaney's Long John Silver in TREASURE ISLAND (1920), so she evens the score for the Durnings.. Jack Curtis, who plays the drunken ruffian in the Bowery Mission scene also plays a bartender in John Ford's MY DARLING CLEMENTINE. Seena Owen plays PRINCESS BELOVED in INTOLERANCE (1915).THE GIFT SUPREME is from a novel by George Allan England, who was the "Harlan Ellison" of the 1920's, as Sci-Fi writer. Bernard Durning was my great uncle and his protege, William Wellman, based A STAR IS BORN (1937) on his own experience with Durning, according to Frank T. Thompson in WILD BILL: HOLLYWOOD MAVERICK. Lon Chaney tries to kill Bernard Durning in this film as he also tried in WHEN BEARCAT WENT DRY (1919). Both films directed by Oliver L.Sellers and both films' Preacher character might be played by the same actor.. Bernard Durning's wife, silent star Shirley Mason, plays Jim to Lon Chaney's Long John Silver in TREASURE ISLAND (1920), so she evens the score for the Durnings..
