A finery forge is a hearth used to fine (i.e., produce, refine) wrought iron, through the decarburization of the pig iron. The fining process involved liquifying cast iron in a fining hearth and removing carbon from the molten cast iron through oxidation. Finery forges were used as early as 3rd century BC, based on archaeological evidence found at a site in Tieshengguo, China. The finery forge process was replaced by puddling process and the roller mill, both developed by Henry Cort in 1783-4, but not becoming widespread until after 1800.
A finery forge was used to refine wrought iron at least by the 3rd century BC in ancient China, based on the earliest archaeological specimens of cast and pig iron fined into wrought iron and steel found at the early Han Dynasty (202 BC – 220 AD) site at Tieshengguo. Pigott speculates that the finery forge existed in the previous Warring States period (403–221 BC), because of the wrought iron items from China dating to that period and there is no documented evidence of the bloomery ever being used in China. Wagner writes that in addition to the Han Dynasty hearths believed to be fining hearths, there is also pictoral evidence of the fining hearth from a Shandong tomb mural dated 1st to 2nd century AD, as well as a hint of written evidence in the 4th century AD Daoist text Taiping Jing.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is a military science fiction real-time strategy video game developed by Relic Entertainment and based on Games Workshop's popular tabletop wargame Warhammer 40,000. It was released by THQ on September 20, 2004 in North America and on September 24 in Europe. Since its release, three expansion packs have been released: Winter Assault in 2005, Dark Crusade in 2006, and Soulstorm in 2008. The sequel, Dawn of War II was released in February 2009.
As a series Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War has sold more than 7 million copies worldwide as of January 2013.
Gameplay is initially focused on capturing and holding strategic locations on the battlefield. These control points are captured by infantry squads and provide resources to construct additional units and buildings or unlock certain units in an army's tech tree. Battles are won either by holding a certain number of control points for a period of time or by destroying all of the opposing armies' HQ structures. A number of special conditions are available to choose from to customize matches.
Wrought iron is an iron alloy with a very low carbon (less than 0.08%) content in contrast to cast iron (2.1% to 4%). It has fibrous inclusions known as slag up to 2% by weight. It is a semi-fused mass of iron with slag inclusions which gives it a "grain" resembling wood, that is visible when it is etched or bent to the point of failure. Wrought iron is tough, malleable, ductile, corrosion-resistant and easily welded. Before the development of effective methods of steelmaking and the availability of large quantities of steel, wrought iron was the most common form of malleable iron.
A modest amount of wrought iron was used as a raw material for refining into steel, which was used mainly to produce swords, cutlery, chisels, axes and other edged tools as well as springs and files. The demand for wrought iron reached its peak in the 1860s with the adaptation of ironclad warships and railways. However, as properties such as brittleness of mild steel improved, it became less costly and more widely available than wrought iron, whose usage then declined.

A forge is a type of hearth used for heating metals, or the workplace (smithy) where such a hearth is located. The forge is used by the smith to heat a piece of metal to a temperature where it becomes easier to shape by forging, or to the point where work hardening no longer occurs. The metal (known as the "workpiece") is transported to and from the forge using tongs, which are also used to hold the workpiece on the smithy's anvil while the smith works it with a hammer. Sometimes such as when hardening steel or cooling the work so that it may be handled with bare hands; the workpiece is transported to the slack tub, which rapidly cools the workpiece in a large body of water. The slack tub also provides water to control the fire in the forge.
A forge typically uses bituminous coal, industrial coke or charcoal as the fuel to heat metal. The designs of these forges have varied over time, but whether the fuel is coal, coke or charcoal the basic design has remained the same.
This video shows techniques for refining wrought iron as well as carburizing the iron and how to turn it into shear steel. To round it off, I make a san-mai construction knife to show off the results that can be achieved by these techniques. Forge diaries are rough and unpolished videos that show some of the work I do at the forge. These short episodes capture various random activities including failed experiments and small tips and tricks. They allow me to publish status updates while I am working on larger projects. This time Dave takes us to Wortley Top Forge. Wortley Top Forge is an historic former finery forge and ironworks originally dating back to the seventeenth century, although evidence suggests iron working took place in the vicinity as early as the fourteenth century.

Assembly and testing of a homemade gas forge. The burner is made from a silencer, works fine, the flame is stable without separation.Conducted test and inspection on the possibility of a gas explosion in cases of tripping of the fan.A feature of this horn is the inner tube, which promotes better mixing of gas and air, with the result that the flame burns steadily from the beginning of ignition.
Here I look at using the forge hammer to make iron and copper plates in the rftools crafter.

In this tutorial I'm trying to focus on using the fuel as efficiently as possible so you're not wasting any potentialy valuable resources. Works for every kiln, smelter, oven, finery forge in the game. Rule of thumb: if it takes 2 ticks to burn (2 branches or 1 plank) - it's 10 minute timer, if it takes 4 ticks to burn (4 branches or 2 planks) it's 16:39 timer.
This hammer is used to form the Wrought iron into bars. Sound cycle Sound 1: The hammer is lifted with an iron cog mounted on the water wheel axel. Sound 2: On top of the lift the hammer is pushed down again fast when hitting the return log. Sound 3: Hammer hit the iron on the anvil. The word "wrought" is an archaic past participle of the verb "to work," and so "wrought iron" literally means "worked iron". The trip hammer is powered by a overshot water wheel. The Lancashire forge in Olofsfors Iron Works, Västerbotten, is from 1870s. The Lancashire hearth was used to fine pig iron, removing carbon to produce wrought iron.
What is PIG IRON? What does PIG IRON mean? PIG IRON meaning - PIG IRON definition - PIG IRON explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Pig iron is an intermediate product of the iron industry. Pig iron has a very high carbon content, typically 3.5–4.5%, along with silica and other constituents of dross, which makes it very brittle, and not useful directly as a material except for limited applications. Pig iron is made by smelting iron ore into a transportable ingot of impure high carbon-content iron in a blast furnace as an ingredient for further processing steps. The traditional shape of the molds used for pig iron ingots was a branching structure formed in sand, with many individual ingots at right angles to a cen...

Welcome to Frozen Colony! In an ultimately frozen world, people develop steam-powered technology to oppose the overwhelming cold. The city ruler has to manage both the inhabitants and the infrastracture the citizens live in. Leader’s tactical skills face challenges, frequently questioning morality and the basic foundation of what we consider an organized society. Here optimization and resource management often clash with empathy and thoughtful decision-making. While city and society management consume most of the ruler’s time, at some point exploration of outside world is necessary to understand its history and present state. http://store.steampowered.com/app/323190/Frostpunk/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VR C...
What is CHAFERY? What does CHAFERY mean? CHAFERY meaning - CHAFERY pronunciation - CHAFERY definition - CHAFERY explanation - How to pronounce CHAFERY? Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. A chafery is a variety of hearth used in ironmaking for reheating a bloom of iron, in the course of its being drawn out into a bar of wrought iron. The equivalent term for a bloomery was string hearth, except in 17th century Cumbria, where the terminology was that of the finery forge. A finery forge for the Walloon process would typically have one chafery to work two fineries (but sometimes one or three fineries). Chaferies were also used in the potting and stamping forges of the industrial revolution.
